[Q] Will unrooting and rerooting the device improve anything ?? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am have some battery life problems for a while. It drains much faster than before. So I am thinking of flashing a RUU to unroot the device and gain S-on, then reroot and S-off.
Will this improve anything or is the only thing I can do is to claim my warranty (after unrooting and S-on of course) and see if it's a faulty battery ??
I've had my wildfire for almost a year (10 months to be exact). I've rooted it after only a week

Errrr, if u read the very last line I wrote, you'll see "Sent from my CM7 powered HTC Wildfire."
So I arleady have cm7 for about 9 months now.

Learn how to calibrate battery using the app "battery calibration". secondly, install the app "set CPU" and create a screen off profile and set it to minimum frequency.. my battery lasts two to three days with moderate use.

CM 7.1 Best radio/kernel/hboot for battery life

Hi everyone,
First time flashing cm 7.1 stable. Pretty satisfied with the beast...but the battery life has decreased from 30h to 18-20h.
Do you recommend the latest hboot? Wich kernel? Wich radio?
What are your battery stats? Do you recommend nightly?
Thx peeps

Latest radio. As for kernel a lot of people suggests ManU. I personally use richardtrip's kernel right now.

How is your battery life doing? What about your signals strength.
Thx for sharing

I've been satisfied with my battery life. Its pretty much dependent on how you use your device so giving you an actual figure on how long it last isn't really necessary. But on my observation, its better to flash another kernel than use the one loaded with CM7.
In addition to the kernel, I use 2G and turn off data when I don't need to be connected and all that normal battery saving practices.
As for signal strength I'd say it's pretty good. I never worry about it since there is pretty much good coverage where I am at.
I'd recommend you don't mess with your radio unless you have to.
I'm using cm7.1 with latest radio (5.17.05.23) and the ManU havs-axi-cfs kernel.. It works a treat for me

What are the consequences of flashing a new kernel over the CM one?
Data lost? Any apps non-compatible? Less customization of the cm 7.1 ?
Thks

There is a little trick how can you extend life of battery to the maximum: Use your phone only in pitch black rooms. Satisfaction guaranteed!

None of that. Everything should work fine, maybe faster, maybe slower, may more battery life, maybe less... Just try.
Only make sure you are flashing an AOSP kernel and not a Sense kernel.
The hboot doesn't affect the baterry life. A2SD dos affect, as reading and writing in the sd drain a bit more battery than just in nand.
So the best hing is to use CM7r2 and not to use a2sd, and don't have thousand of stupid and useless apps.

Battery calibrator

For the past month my battery has been going haywire. Its been dieing at 10-20%. And sometimes it will get to 0% then randomly jump to 15%+
I've tried battery calibrator app on several roms followed all the guides but after learn detect and a full charge it never updates the battery's age.

Have you tried following the battery calibration method on for example Cyanogenmod?
I've tried it several times on seb15's runnymede rom, but it would also never update the battery's age. Therefore I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 and it worked the first time, after that just flashed back seb15's rom with droidzone's kernel22 and my battery is still calibrated
That's the rom I'm on now and its failed 3 times

Hi,
Try to install Juice-Defender its very usefull, just organize it how you like, and it will save your phones battery.
I use runnymede aio s/e beta and no problems at all, seb even explains in OP about calibrating the battery, just follow his guide.

Please help. Poor battery life. (Please see inside)

instead of flooding all other threads I thought of creating one of my own.
I am running ARHD 8.1 with faux kernel 006. Previously I was on stock kernel with ARHD but due to poor battery life I flashed faux kernel. With gsam battery monitor I saw that my HOX kernel is consuming 40% of battery. After flashing the kernel it remained the same. What is the matter I don't know. Is this the reason of poor battery life? This is my screenshot:
I also
Installed system tuner. The CPU is always running at 1ghz and doesn't allow me to change it. What could be the problem. I am totally messed up.

I noticed that you seem to have flashed and done a lot of mods to your phone.
Try flashing it back to stock, leave it that way for a week and let it stabilize.
You're doing too much expecting magic instantly.

Thanks but how to flash it back to stock? And does HOX automatically turns on when fully charged? It happened to me everything I charged my device when it was on.
Should I revert back to stock or should I wait for a few days with ARHD+faux kernel?
Btw I have installed system tuner. Any settings you recommend to save up more juice? I am a total noon with all these.don't wanna duck up my device again. I am leaving with full charged. Let's see how it goes.
P.S. just checked the battery consumption and these are the stats:
Kernel-42%
System(HTC launcher)-9.2%
Internet-2.3%
Charge is draining by 1% every 30 secs. Wow.

I use watchdog to see what's using the cpu and causing battery drain. Maybe try that app?
I agree with the poster above- go back to stock and wait it out..
If all fails then you might even have a faulty battery which is covered under warranty, but because of unlocked bootloader its risky trying to claim it.

Dude. Flash to stock. Don't install any battery apps. Wait one week.
All of your problems will be gone.

Oh yeah. Don't install system tuner, setcpu, anything. Leave it stock.
A lot of people go over board with apps and just bog down a good device.

can u guide me or send me a link on how to flash to stock rom and kernel
1. Find the correct RUU for your devices. They are in a stickied thread in the development section.
2. Flash stock recovery.
3. Relock boot loader. (fastboot oem lock)
4. Run the RUU.
To find the right RUU, use fastboot oem readcid and post your cid here and I'll tell you if I know the RUU. I'm not sure where to get the stock recovery, but this is what I've read others say about returning to stock.

i am on ARHD which is stock so do i need to flash stock recovery. where to get the RUU and stock recovery? even on the stock kernel with ARHD i was getting my kernel using 40%. so should i just change the rom? if so suggest me one rom
edit: i went out at 9:00a.m with 100% came home at 1:30 with only 14%. had two reboots and only1hr screen on. there cant be anything terrible than this. will charging it again and again work. also the cpu doesnt fall below 1200mhz. its between 1200 1400 and 1500. i just want good battery life whether its dual core or quadcore. charge was 20% just after 1sec it fell to 14%. app usage is 54% with 41% consumed by kernel

You might have something eating your battery. And yes, you do need to flash stock recovery in order to run an RUU.

I installed cm10 and battery life is so far good. Just on my first charge cycle and got 35% left with 2hr 18min screen on. Is it good?
You cant really tell with your first cycle, you seem to keep a rom for a couple of days complain then switch. You need to wait a week or so to let the battery settle so to speak.
That sounds great to me. I usually get to 15% with 1hr 48m screen time.

Exactly. He has made a bunch of posts over a short amount of time.
My battery life is very good on stock rooted. Run stock for a week and let it calibrate. 1 days results are meaningless.

Good or bad we don't know. Depends on usage type of data used, signal, screen brightness, auto sync and various other factors that can contribute to draining of the battery.
But that seems average anyway so not that bad.

Run arhd super wipe Install a clean rom like aosp and don't install any apps, seems like you have a rouge app do you restore apps from titanium? Use watchdog like mentioned it will alert you when any app is being naughty and running cpu when not necessary.
