Hi everyone,
First time flashing cm 7.1 stable. Pretty satisfied with the beast...but the battery life has decreased from 30h to 18-20h.
Do you recommend the latest hboot? Wich kernel? Wich radio?
What are your battery stats? Do you recommend nightly?
Thx peeps

Latest radio. As for kernel a lot of people suggests ManU. I personally use richardtrip's kernel right now.

How is your battery life doing? What about your signals strength.
Thx for sharing

I've been satisfied with my battery life. Its pretty much dependent on how you use your device so giving you an actual figure on how long it last isn't really necessary. But on my observation, its better to flash another kernel than use the one loaded with CM7.
In addition to the kernel, I use 2G and turn off data when I don't need to be connected and all that normal battery saving practices.
As for signal strength I'd say it's pretty good. I never worry about it since there is pretty much good coverage where I am at.
I'd recommend you don't mess with your radio unless you have to.
I'm using cm7.1 with latest radio (5.17.05.23) and the ManU havs-axi-cfs kernel.. It works a treat for me

What are the consequences of flashing a new kernel over the CM one?
Data lost? Any apps non-compatible? Less customization of the cm 7.1 ?
Thks

There is a little trick how can you extend life of battery to the maximum: Use your phone only in pitch black rooms. Satisfaction guaranteed!

None of that. Everything should work fine, maybe faster, maybe slower, may more battery life, maybe less... Just try.
Only make sure you are flashing an AOSP kernel and not a Sense kernel.
The hboot doesn't affect the baterry life. A2SD dos affect, as reading and writing in the sd drain a bit more battery than just in nand.
So the best hing is to use CM7r2 and not to use a2sd, and don't have thousand of stupid and useless apps.

neophytes rom compared to what ?, its definitely better than the default rom. I found that neophytes rom gave me excellent battery life =D
compared to NexTSense? i think NexTSense have good battery life. Never tried the Neophyte's Neophyte yet.
Oh sorry heh heh. I was in a rush a wasn't very specific. I meant between his two rom's. Anyone feel any difference between his stock based one and his sense based one?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I switched from the normal one to the battery save, and noticed a distinct improvement in battery life.
That said, there are so many contradictory comments on threads about overall performance of different ROMs, the only way to find out is to give it a go on your phone.
I guess it is fair to say that the battery save version should be better, but you may not need it....
Battery save Roms only run up to 800mhz though
Having tried both I feel that Neophyte 1.6 is the best Rom for battery.
Alright thanks everyone. I'll give then both a try.

i run my NexTSense on 806mHz only..
Can anywone tell me a best rom for save battery ?
Now i have Oxygen 2.3.1 Bravo
I would think the Oxygen you're using would be one of the better one's for battery life. Don't go for Sense rom's as they'll drain your battery real quick.
Well anything oxygen based, or the gingervillan roms
Took me a week to finally get it right, but I've managed to get both speed, stability n a Schweeet batterylife
If I get the time this weekend, ill post how I did it, and all the steps from stock, out of the box, to end product

I find that the insert coin rom isn't too bad on battery life. Well version 1.1.1 isn't. not sure on the newer versions though
Most AOSP ROMS have great battery life. But much of the battery life is to do with the kernel too, so picking a good kernel is paramount.
I'd agree on the kernel bit, but also, how you have android configured in general around it can have a noticeable effect.
The right rom, kernel, and also userspace setup/configuration all adds up

Also black background for AMOLED screens is worth adding to the list.
Im curious guys on this battery subject?
I'm currently using aurora V3 but even before that I'm lucky to get a day out of it.
What potential increases am I looking at here?
Many thanks

There is no way to guess or add a multiplier from your rom ro another to see potential increase unfortunately. It all depends how you use the phone. If the screen is on all the time, you wont see any increase in battery life as ROMs and kernels cannot control the amount of battery a Screen uses. This is a constant.
ROMs and kernels optimise CPU so that les spower is used, therefore things that use CPU will affectively waste less power.
The only way to test / compare is to flash something else and use it the same as you do every day.

Thanks for the info; need to do abit of research into this kernel business as I've seen them mentioned alot and nodded in agreement (I have no idea!)
Click the link to guides in my signature. Read the kernel info thread. May help

I don't mind if anyone throws me a pm in regards to seeking more out of the Desire.
And rootSU, we could always do a combined guide on the Desire and how to get the best out of it, if you like

You could assume stock, then at the bottom add root only and mention kernels and set CPU, autokiller, autostarts etc etc
Rightyo, need to do shopping but will be back shortly
Might see what i can work out
AOSP roms are the best for battery of course, but if you like SenseUi, I recommend You InsertCoin 1.1.4 and kernel from -SNQ, (his kernels are better for battery from bananacakes)
Which kernel is optimal for powersave and oc?
Tiamat 4.1.0 or ManU 2.0 Kernel?
for me cm7.1 kernel is most optimal, and miui of course.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
ManU-Kernel is very good, but I recommend to test yourself (at least one week each, kernels need some time to stabilize themselves).
Thanks

Thanks for your advise. CM7.1 kernel is stable but the battery management is definitely not the best.
I made such comments because I had Nexus S as well and flashed -=NexusMV [1.11.30]=- Rom which overall performance is better than original CM rom.
Thanks!

I had tried Tiamat 4.1 kernel for more than a week. I have found the battery performance is slightly better than the original kernel from my MIUI rom but still not good enough...
I will try ManU kernel and see if this works better.
After the battery performance, I will try to OC a little bit.
Most recommend version of the ManU-kernel is the HAVS-AXI-CFS one.
Thanks again!

Besides, if Radio version is also an issue about battery live?
I am now using the latest one: Radio_bravo_32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
Original HTC Sense Android 2.2 rom from HK: 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23
Never heard about it. IMHO radio should only be changed if their appears a problem which is radio (=hardware) connected. Battery life is not connected to hardware, but very strongly to the kernel one is using.

It is connected to the radio as well. Radio can be updated if the user has a wish to do so. The ril is the one which should be best left alone.
@op - make your mind. You asked a question about two things that are a contradiction one to another.

Good to know, thanks. As I said, never heard / read a radio update could change the battery life.
Im running MIUI AU and I find that the best kernel is the ManU 1.4 HAVS-AXI-CFS. I've tried both 1.4 and 2.0 but 1.4 seems to yeild the best results.
Hope this helps.

You could also try Sebastiaan15's AIO ROM... I have it and the battery lasts 3-4 days depending on how much you use your phone

Yeah, but it always depends on how much you use your phone. If you switch off mobile data, wifi, and solely use your phone for calling/texting once or twice a day, you'll get 2-3 days of usage out of it regardless of which ROM you're using.

He asked for SENSE Roms.
I am using RSK Special Edition, it has an excellent battery life (Governor Smartass V2 @ 1152 MHz).
Charged this morning to 100% and now it has 85 %. :good:
WiFi, GPS and BT are turned off.
If you are looking for Sense for the look
I'd suggest MIUI Marange, and search xda for MIUI Sense 4.0 Theme,
It is awesome how I just forget I have an MiUi Rom, mainly because I
Can put a beautiful app drawer and have sense widgets xD
Can Provide screenshot if you want.
RunnyMede aio s/e with kernel Ahmet-exp5_cfs_svs+
Smartassv2 - 245 - 998
there is probably better with other sense, but if u want sense 3.5 this was the best setup for me

Your sense is the best battery saver. Turn off data transfer when you don't need it and all will be good.

I am currently using the RSK Special Editiin with Alex-V kernel. The 15% shutdown os fixed, charging very fast, no drains, all the features working, very responsive and im happy with good battery life. If there are other good combinations I will be checking this thread to find them all.
Greetings!

Hey people. I'm kinda new to the game of flashing etc. Currently I'm running Viper on my HTC one s (and loving it)! But that's not why I'm here. My old phone (mums current phone) is a Wildfire s, so what I want to do is root and flash a custom rom for it in hopes of increasing the battery life. I know cm is pretty good with battery, but are there any suggestions as to which rom I could use? Or may be better? Maybe even a jb sense?
Thanks in advance
