Reverting to 1.29 stock from custom ROM? - HTC One X

I'm currently having **** loads of problems on custom roms, random reboots, signal loss, crap battery life, just to name a few, i wanted to go back to stock. but i never did this on any other phone before and i don't have any files to do this. I was wondering where i could find instructions how to flash to a stock rom, 1.28 preferred, my device was first on a branded stock rom by Three, i don't want that, i'd like a stock Unlocked 1.28 ?

did the exact same thing last night....going native for a while
worked on mine which is EU unbranded, don't know about yours....take no chances, wait for others to reply also just to be sure.
1. download 1.28 Europe RUU from HERE
2. make sure you have at least 40-50% battery left
3. shutdown phone
4. boot into fastboot using vol- & power
5. enter fastboot, connect usb cable
6. type "fastboot relock bootloader" - if i remember correctly
7. will reboot back into fastboot
8. run RUU on PC
9. done
10. bonus - if you have the right CID, you'll get a system update notification for 1.29

What RUU version do you have? If you have flashed a custom rom with 1.29 it updates something (hboot I think?) which means to go back to stock you have to relock the boot loader and then flash a 1.29 RUU.
I tried just earlier today to go back to stock, using only the 1.26 RUU and won't work
Sim lock doesn't make any differs btw.

Sure thing mate!
I'm currently on Android Revolution 5. For some reason I keep losing network connectivity on this rom tho, even older versions and have to put airplane mode on/off to get back. Every since it moved from 1.26 to 1.28 base, strange!

You need the flash the stock recovery, relock the bootloader and then run the RUU. That will return you to stock firmware.

hboot 0.94 comes with 1.28, this means you won't be able to run a 1.26 RUU - you can only run 1.28 RUUs or newer. If you can't get the 1.28 RUU for your CID you won't be able to run a RUU. You can still flash custom ROMs though, so if your phone is bootlooping that's your way out.

Are you on vodafone UK? The 1.28 RUU is available for that carrier.
Even after relocking the bootloader and running a RUU, it's impossible (without S-OFF) to remove any trace that you unlocked it. The repair centre will still be able to tell.

Essentially no. Once you unlock it, even if you relock it it won't be exactly the same. The bootloader will remember that it was previously unlocked and repair centres will be able to see it. That said, restoring the RUU is better than nothing, but from what I've heard the repair centres like to bill you for a motherboard replacement if you unlock your device.
UK law does give you a large degree of protection if you wanted to take it to court though (assuming you're returning it due to a fault that was not caused by unlocking the device)

[Q] Need 2.17 3 UK RUU

I desparately need the 2.17 H3G (Three UK) RUU to restore my HOX from a bootloop. If anyone could help they would be a lifesaver.
You only need the RUU if you want to go back to stock.
If you want to fix your bootloop, you need to fastboot flash the latest recovery, fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot erase cache, and then in recovery clear caches and wipe partitions, flash the ROM.

Pretty sure a google won't go a miss... I had a link but I really can't get it because I'm on my phone, it's out there but the site I got it off accidently named it wrong. They called it 1.29 and we all know that three didn't release the 1.29 update... So... It has to be 2.17 because all the other versions are there including 1.28 and 1.26.

Question about OTA updates...

I have a O2 UK branded hox, which i've unlocked and use on Tesco Mobile's network (actually uses O2 network) but just wondering if I would still receive OTA updates if I revert back to stock, as it was my understanding they were pushed out by the network providers?
Yes you can still receive OTA updates if you revert back to stock .
The phone checks HTC servers for updates using the Internet. It has nothing to do with the provider.

Correct. It's the software build you're using that determines the updates. For example, if you're running x.xx.61.x (Orange UK) and you don't change this bar using a different SIM card you'll only get update that have x.xx.61.x in it
Thanks guys just gotta figure out how to put it back to stock now....

Take the boot.img from the RUU...although you don't need to if you're going to flash the RUU. All you have to do is relock the bootloader and run it when the phone is in fastboot mode - it'll put it back to 100% stock

Managed to do it by restoring my original nandroid I did as soon as I unlocked the bootloader, at first it was boot looping but i flashed the boot.img from nandroid and it is fine, ota showed the 4.0.4 update immediately and managed to download it, now back onto arhd 9.7.2 so at least I know I can get back, will just have to relock it next time and flash stock recovery. will just have to figure out which recovery would be needed.
You don't need to relock to install OTA.

Just wait till 3 push jellybean or... A dev or some clever person works it all out.
Or try a aosp or some other jellybean rom.
You should try fastboot flash boot boot.img your chosen rom.
Then fastboot erase cache, then flash the rom.zip through recovery.

The H3G 1.29 was never released, they skipped straight to 2.17 - so perhaps this is the 2.17 RUU?

You need to report him to the mods for selling RUU. It's HTC's property.

Nope I've got the same issue . None of the stock RUU's available will load on the latest H3G version to take it back to stock.so far
I should also say that using the Automatic one x flasher it took me ten minutes to re unlock , flash cwm and install ARHD to have a perfectly good phone again
I am having the exact same problem. I had stock rom 3 UK locked and I thought that flashing a custom rom would unlock the carrier. Now I am stuck with bootloop. I can enter fastboot and recovery but I can't find H3G 2.17.771.3 RUU anywhere to return to stock and have a working phone again. Is there any solution for my problem? How can I at least return to stock H3G rom?
Found the ruu for you. This one worked for me. Have uploaded to my dropbox account.

Should take you to this download:

(Hopefully I've linked correctly)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Wow thanks man. I'll try it out and get back with the result. I was really out of hope.
EDIT:
It worked! The first time I tried updating it said it couldn't update, but the second time it worked perfectly. Now my phone finally boots and I can use an unlock code to get rid of the carrier lock. Thank you spikeydoo2006 for the RUU. It should be posted in the index so other people with my problem can find it easier.
Im running CyanogenMod10 on my HTC one x and i was wondering if there was a way to get this working on my device?
edit: got it working thanks spikey saved me!

Big problem about S-off

Hello
I have bootloader unlocked, rooted HTC one M8. I want to use android revolution hd and to do that I need to flash a new firmware. I need to do "s-off". However I tried I failed that with "runrummer". I get this fail : (I dont wanna pay 25$ for sunshine)
Pouring (1) ......................
Pouring (2)
WTF: what are you doing.
Press Enter to exit.
I want to do s-off so badly and I can give more info. about the phone.
Thanks a lot
Runrunner doesn't work with the M8. Sunshine is the only working method

That's nice, but you need to be S-Off to do certain things, like manually flashing firmware without reverting to stock, or using firmware meant for carriers other than yours when they update before your carrier.
There are other advantages as well, but these are the ones that S-Off is most used for.

"WTF what are you doing" indeed. Rumrunner never worked for this phone. It was for the M7. Firewater (related, but different from rumrunner) was for earlier M8 versions. It was an online service, and will no longer work now that the dev has stopped supporting it (so don't even bother asking).
For many variants, s-off is not needed to update firmware (as long as Lollipop has been released for your variant). You can just return to stock ROM and stock recovery, and OTA to Lollipop in order to update your firmware.

There are different stock ROMs for different CIDs. Plus, if you have no WiFi, and extreme long boot times, its due to your firmware not being supported by the ROM. You need to find the stock ROM for your current firmware and CID. Then you also need to flash the corresponding stock recovery. After that, you can OTA to the latest firmware.
What is your CID, hboot number, and radio number?

Not only is that make a difference, it makes it easy to update your firmware. Just relock the bootloader and run the new Lollipop RUU: http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_M8[email protected]50319A_40.45.C33065.00_F_release_426617_signed_2.exe
Backup any important personal data before RUU, as RUU will wipe the phone.

1) To lock bootloader: Connect phone to PC (PC required for RUU). Boot phone into bootloader-fastboot mode. Open command prompt on computer, and type command: fastboot oem lock
2) Download RUU onto PC. With phone connected, run the RUU exectuble program on the PC and follow the instructions given.
3) Done, drink beer
A little more detail is given here under "Manual system update instructions": http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
But seriously, the RUU is a self-explanatory program. It will tell you to confirm a couple dialogue boxes. But aside from that, the program will install a completely clean factory Lollipop software image.
Option Step) Unlock the bootloader again via HTCDev.com, then flash TWRP if you want to root or flash a custom ROM.

You can try it. It certainly doesn't hurts, as it only takes a single fastboot command, and would be faster than going through the whole HTCDev.com process (although that really doesn't take that much time, either).
I know using the same token has worked on past HTC devices. But I haven't seen much (if any) success on the M8. Most (or all?) folks have had to get a new token in order to unlock.

Yes, whatever AT&T apps are present on the stock Lollipop AT&T image will be on your phone. Simply root and delete/freeze, or install a custom ROM to be rid of the AT&T bloat.

You mean the removable SD? It should be safe. But you can always take it out before RUU to be sure it doesn't get touched by RUU.
Any other data on the phone (including the "virtual SD" AKA internal storage) should be backed up, if you want to keep it. Internal storage "might" be okay, but I'd back up anything you want to keep, just in case.

Usually booted into OS works. But some folks have had to put the phone in fastboot mode.

Yes, that is normal. Its expected that RUU will be run once you relock, so it makes the phone this way.
I always forget this, since I s-off my devices (no relocking necessary to RUU with s-off)

After installing this RUU I will have original At&t rom and unroot, relocked bootloader phone. and it will be 5.0.1 lollipop. Am I right? and so firmware will be upgraded tho? That means I can Unlock it, root it and install that android revolution HD rom without having problems.

Yes, yes, and yes.
The only thing above that isn't completely correct, if that after you unlock the bootloader again, just install custom recovery and flash ARHD. No need to root before flashing a custom ROM. Installing a ROM wipes whatever you did with root anyway, and custom ROMs are always pre-rooted. So rooting manually is an unnecessary step. You only need to root "manually" if you are keeping the stock ROM.
