I keep hearing that Verizon is finally start pushing out 4.0.4 update, my phone isn't rooted nor updated so I'm using stock 4.0.2
if I want to get root after updating to 4.0.4 can I do it after getting update from Verizon or do I need to do something special before?
Yes, you will be able to get root after you receive the update. I'm sure it won't take long for toolkit to updated for this boot image.
And you could always root now, backup SU with OTArootkeeper, update, restore root.

I am planning on getting the Galaxy Nexus when it is released for Verizon and have a question about how updating the device works if you are rooted. If you are rooted and Google releases an update, do you receive a notification as if you are unrooted? Also, can you apply the update? If so, do you have to root again after the update is complete? Thanks in advance.
you still get the notification, but you would have to root again after the update.

You can always root and flash back to a stock kernel after (not sure how this works, seen the kernel in the galaxy nexus android development section)
What do you mean about a kernel? If the kernel is updated OTA i'd imagine it would be better than the stock one.
If I go the route of flashing CWM recovery, how can I apply OTAs?
My wife and I both have the lte nexus, mine I got the ICL53F update before I got out of the store. Hers didn't get the update until later on that day. I rooted mine when I got home after ICL53F hers I rooted before ICL53F. I know I screwed up, since then she has downloaded a ton of apps customized it etc. then the update popped up and she tried to update it and obviously it won't. Is there any way to either unroot install update then root again without doing a factory reset. Also before I get flamed in my defense she said an update screen came up and she said yes update so I assumed (stupid of me) that it already had ICL53F on it before I rooted it. Thanks a lot in advance when I told her I may have to wipe I thought she was going to explode.

Since your wife's phone is already rooted that makes it better for you. There are several roms in the development section that are on 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. Just use titanium back up to back up all her apps and app data, then you can install an updated rom and restore her apps and settings back to the phone. Of if you want a factory image to restore from go here: http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html

Agreed. Put Titanium Backup on her phone, backup her apps and user data, then install either the stock ROM or one of your choice. Use TB to restore only user apps and app data.
Before you factory reset and install the fresh ROM, copy the sdcard files off to your computer just to be safe.
Good luck.

Rooted?
Does this mean that when I have 4.0.1 ITL41F and I am rooted and boot-loader is unlocked, I will never receive the update to 4.0.2?

Simply being rooted doesn't stop you from receiving OTA updates on the stock ROM, but using custom recovery does. If you have stock recovery, you should get the update just fine. If you have custom recovery (ClockworkMod), you'll get the update notification but it won't install and you'll have to do it manually. In either case, you'll usually need to re-root after the update.
Hi,
I have rooted my GN using Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit
I had ICS 4.0.3, and now I have 4.0.2 :S I searched for OTA update, but there is nothing. Whats going on? Am I still able to recieve OTA updates? Why cant I update to 4.0.3? I got the Jakyu version
Technically speaking, yes. If you are worried, just unroot, update then root again. Anyway, OTAs will revoke your root access if it's successful.
But if you are rooted and running a custom ROM, then it's a different story.
I won't worry about it because worse come to worst, you can just download the rooted OTAs online and flash it yourself. There will be so many floating around online when an official one drops.
4.0.2 is the latest OTA update available.
There isn't a 4.0.3 OTA. The latest is 4.0.2.
I am running the stock 4.0.2 that the phone came with. I used a toolkit that was posted in the Development forums to unlock and root the phone. Other than that, its totally stock.
When I do the OTA update, It gets to the dead android with a triangle coming from his stomach,
I have to pull the battery to get the phone booted, and its still on 4.0.2.
Anyone have any suggestions?
From the same toolkit, unroot and reflash stock recovery. Update then re-root and flash cwm.
Hi
I have a Galaxy Nexus with rooted ICS 4.0.4. The phone is free, and the SIM is from German O2.
Every half an hour I get the update message to 4.1.1, but so far I haven't updated it because I don't know if after the update the phone will be easily re-rooted.
I have Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, and I have read comments both about it working and not working in the Galaxy Nexus.
In the thread of the App in this forum isn't neither clear whether it is going to work, or not.
Can someone tell me clearly whether the root can be recovered with this app after updating, or not?
Thank you in advance,
Aykito
If you have a custom recovery why not flash a stock but rooted jelly bean rom
Is your bootloader unlocked???
If so, you can easily boot in CWM and then flash Superuser from there. In case OTA Rootkeeper fails. But I think it won't fail.
Cheers!
