[Q] OTA updates when rooted? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I have rooted my GN using Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit
I had ICS 4.0.3, and now I have 4.0.2 :S I searched for OTA update, but there is nothing. Whats going on? Am I still able to recieve OTA updates? Why cant I update to 4.0.3? I got the Jakyu version

Technically speaking, yes. If you are worried, just unroot, update then root again. Anyway, OTAs will revoke your root access if it's successful.
But if you are rooted and running a custom ROM, then it's a different story.
I won't worry about it because worse come to worst, you can just download the rooted OTAs online and flash it yourself. There will be so many floating around online when an official one drops.

4.0.2 is the latest OTA update available.

There isn't a 4.0.3 OTA. The latest is 4.0.2.

[Q] Over The Air Updates while Rooted

I am planning on getting the Galaxy Nexus when it is released for Verizon and have a question about how updating the device works if you are rooted. If you are rooted and Google releases an update, do you receive a notification as if you are unrooted? Also, can you apply the update? If so, do you have to root again after the update is complete? Thanks in advance.
you still get the notification, but you would have to root again after the update.

You can always root and flash back to a stock kernel after (not sure how this works, seen the kernel in the galaxy nexus android development section)
What do you mean about a kernel? If the kernel is updated OTA i'd imagine it would be better than the stock one.
If I go the route of flashing CWM recovery, how can I apply OTAs?

[Q] Root for official ICS?

I just got the official OTA upgrade from unrooted 3.2.1 to 4.0.3. (Acer_AV041_A100_1.014.00_WW_GEN1)
Has anyone tried to apply the old rooting procedures to this new OS?
You should be able to use ZeroNulls method in the development thread. It works for all the ICS versions. Including the .14 leak and OTA which are the same exact.
Also next time download OTA rootkeeper app and protect root before you update and you can restore root after OTA. This only work if you OTA though. If you flash through recovery then you def have to use Zeronull. But this is the surest way to maintain root if for some reason the OTA is unrootable with adb method.

[Q] galaxy nexus 4.0.4 rooted update

I keep hearing that Verizon is finally start pushing out 4.0.4 update, my phone isn't rooted nor updated so I'm using stock 4.0.2
if I want to get root after updating to 4.0.4 can I do it after getting update from Verizon or do I need to do something special before?
Yes, you will be able to get root after you receive the update. I'm sure it won't take long for toolkit to updated for this boot image.
And you could always root now, backup SU with OTArootkeeper, update, restore root.

Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and JB 4.1.1

Hi
I have a Galaxy Nexus with rooted ICS 4.0.4. The phone is free, and the SIM is from German O2.
Every half an hour I get the update message to 4.1.1, but so far I haven't updated it because I don't know if after the update the phone will be easily re-rooted.
I have Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, and I have read comments both about it working and not working in the Galaxy Nexus.
In the thread of the App in this forum isn't neither clear whether it is going to work, or not.
Can someone tell me clearly whether the root can be recovered with this app after updating, or not?
Thank you in advance,
Aykito
If you have a custom recovery why not flash a stock but rooted jelly bean rom
Is your bootloader unlocked???
If so, you can easily boot in CWM and then flash Superuser from there. In case OTA Rootkeeper fails. But I think it won't fail.
Cheers!

Do I need to change my build?

Hi,
I originally changed from yakujuux to yakuju in order to get from 4.0.1 to 4.0.4 a while ago.
Now I'm trying to upgrade from 4.0.4 to 4.2. I am currently yakuju builld IMM76I. I tried doing an incremental update through CWM and I got an error. I think it's because of the different radios right?
So what would be the best route to fix this? Should I change build's back and downgrade? I also tried installing the official stock ROM but that didn't work either.
Any ideas?
Going through some folders I just saw one of a build backup when I changed it before.
How do I use this backup?
These are the files I have...http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a210/ruckus17/scrnsht.png

you can't update from 4.0.4 to 4.2.1 through ota
through ota: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170
through official nexus factory images/fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
When trying the incremental updates, I had downloaded the files and ran them through CWM, not actually through OTA.
I tried the google factory image through CWM and also through the Gnex toolkit, again with no luck.
I have the system update notification on my phone, but everytime it goes to install the update, it fails and displays the android logo with a red triangle in his chest.
Like I said, all I did before, was unlock the phone and change from yakujuux to yakuju to obtain 4.0.4 without root. So that's all I can really think of why it isn't installing any updates. My Gnex is now rooted and unlocked.

who said anything about cwm or a toolkit???
I had meant I had tried with the toolkit and CWM before trying the link you posted.
The return to stock method worked. Thanks!
