Anyone know why Google Drive "Document List" displays different documents on the GNex than on the PC? I have both lists sorted the same, "Last Modified".
On my PC, it shows every doc as it should be, in chronological order, everything's there.
On my GNex, the list is quite different, and it is actually missing docs.
Any ideas?
mines listing things just fine. Maybe try disconnecting/reconnecting the Drive app from your account?
I'll try that now.
Thanks!

That's weird. So when you view the files on your computer, or on the website they're all synced, but not on the phone? Even when you force sync?

Yep - on my PC, my Google docs are 100% present, and in the right order - as they've always been for years when it was "Google Docs".
On my GNex, I get a list of docs in a different sort order, with key documents missing from the list. (Sort order is set the same on PC and GNex).

Google drive sorts the documents according to the last date you modified the documents in Google Drive. Regardless of the modified date from the PC.
Could be, but it doesn't seem to affect my problem.
I have an important doc to which I need ready access. The last time it was edited, it was done in Google Drive - yesterday. The doc (and others) never display on the GNex - regardless of how I sort them. Also, there are no sharing settings for these docs, so that's not it either.
Ideas welcomed!
I would....
1. Check your sync settings in Accounts on your phone maybe something is screwy.
2. Uninstall/Reinstall the Google Drive App. See what happens
Thanks!
I checked sync settings. All is fine there.
I uninstalled and reinstalled yesterday. Did nothing.
I've posted on the GDrive support forum - haven't heard from anyone there.
Here's a twist...
If I go the the doc on my PC in GDrive that I can't find on my GNex, and give it a "Star", then I can see it under "Starred" on the GNex. Nice.
Take the star off the doc, and it disappears from the GNex - nowhere to be found.

Can someone please explain this to me? I've placed all my contacts on gmail's contacts. I also have the contacts list which is on my phone that I'd like to update/replace with the one on google. How do I sync so that the phone knows to take my google contacts on gmail and replace the ones on the phone? How do I make sure my phone ones don't delete the gmail ones I just edited on my computer??
Pleeeease help, thanks. I just don't get this.

Gmail contacts should sync based off of the last modification time. Say you edited a contact on both your computer and your phone, but at different times. The one that you edited last, the later modification time, would override the earlier one. If you change something on your computer, it should sync to your phone.
Ok, so what you're saying is that, theoretically, if I have 100 contacts and I edit 40 of them on gmail on my computer, those 40 will have a later timestamp than the same 40 on my phone, therefore the phone will update with the computer versions, right?
And then, the other 60 that weren't touched at all, nothing will happen to them because the timestamp hasn't changed? Is that right as well?
Essentially, what I'm getting is that it's less important exactly what elements were edited in each contact and more what the last timestamp is on each one. If it sees a newer date on either the phone or the computer it updates EVERYthing to the newest one. So each contact then has a timestamp?

Kind of. If you edit something on your phone, it will sync to your computer, and vice versa, but if you edit a contact on both your phone AND your computer before it has a chance to sync, it will choose the one that was last modified.
So, in my case, I don't keep Google Sync on cause I don't like syncing anything with the Google servers except for the contacts and even then I like controlling when cause I don't like things happening in the background. Like that insane T-Mobile sync that always starts on its own. So, in my case, I do some edits on my phone and then a bunch on the computer and I then run a contact sync. It'll just take the newest from both?

I believe so, yes.
All that seems to have worked perfectly. Went to gmail, updated everything I needed to, (backed up contacts on the phone first ) and then proceeded to turn on auto-sync and do a Google Contacts sync on the phone. Updated perfectly.
I used to have problems with this back with WinMo because I used to want to keep my Outlook and phone contacts separate and different. But if you're ok with them being the same, this works.
HI, I have Modaco JB rom installed and am having trouble with Google Now not recognizing my local settings. When I ask for weather it tells me my location, but it is in C not F and there aren't any card settings. When I ask for Home (which I have set in my maps account) it takes me to the closest "Home" named business to my location. I don't have any customization at all (see pic).
I am using Google Apps and have web history turned on. Also all settings on my phone (time, temp, location) are correct. It isn't the rom as this is the second JB rom I have flashed and had the same problem with that one.
Any Help would be appreciated!!
I had this problem too. It turns out that Apps accounts need to turn Google Now on for it to work. I detailed the steps here:

What if you just have a regular Gmail account that all of your services are tied to?

Then you shouldn't need to do this. When I added my normal gmail account to my phone, Google Now automatically worked. When you started Google Now, did you get the little intro/wizard thing, or did it go straight to a search box? If you got the introduction, and whenever you pull up Google Now, you get the colorful banner on top, then Google Now already works on your phone.
If you're having trouble with the Knowledge Graph cards showing up, then you have a different issue regarding your language settings.

From what I've read, along with setting your search and location settings to the US, you'll have to enable Web History and Location History.
Context:
Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Stock ROM, Android 4.1.1.
When I check in Settings...Accounts...Google...
It shows a Sync Error for my account. At the bottom of the screen it says:
Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
If I then click on my [email protected]
All of the entries are checked and properly synced, and up to date, except Contacts. It says 'Last Synced 4/20/2012..."
Despite this, Contact additions or edits that I make on my phone do in fact get synced to my other devices. And Contact additions or edits that I make elsewhere do get synced to my phone.
So, this appears to be a faulty error message. Since everything is working right, I'm reluctant to do anything major to try and clear the message, for fear of actually creating a functional problem. And yet, it bugs me that it's there.
One of the frequently suggested solutions is to go to Settings...Apps...Contacts Storage...
And once there, hit "Clear Data".
So my question is what exactly happens when "Clear Data" is hit? I want to eliminate the potential for inadvertently deleting my contacts overall, don't want to create new problems, etc., so would like a little more information about what this does or doesn't do.
And, if someone has any insight on another way to get rid of this message, that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Anybody have any information here??
Thanks.
Try this
Hi, i face the same problem. After few hrs search in Internet, I found a way to solve it, so far it works.
Go to Google Play and install this apps: Contacts Sync Fix
Run the apps
Go to setting, open Google account and try to sync again.
It should be OK then.
Hope it helps.

Very interesting! Looks like it just came out this month. This is an incredibly common problem, if you read Google's "support" forums, which I find hard to believe how this is such a core function of the whole Google enterprise.
I wonder what this App is doing behind the scenes, or actually how it does it. All of the reviews so far are very positive, although there are only 11 of them at this time. I'll probably monitor this for a bit, and then try it out.
Thanks!
I exchanged a quick email with the Author, and went ahead and installed and ran the Contacts Sync Fix App. It identified a single problem, fixed it, and my error message is now gone, and sync continues to work fine. I went ahead and bought the ad-free version for $.99 - I have no idea if a problem will recur in the future, but I'll now be able to fix it. And besides, he fixed something Google has been unable or unwilling to do!
This solved my same problem

Hi all - I have an extremely busy week and a half ahead of me so I've spent much of the day (which is about all the time I can afford for the foreseeable future) searching for answers but haven't had much luck with some of my questions. I have not had a mobile Windows device since WinMo 6.1 or so, the last few years I have maintained Android phones and tablets all of the machines I service for work are mostly WinXP & Win7...in other words, "I'm a newb" in the world of Windows RT. I won a new 32Gb RT this week and I'm trying to incorporate it into everyday life but not having much luck. I've updated the firmware and checked system updates until it was no longer finding updates after each restart. I've also checked the app store and it shows everything as being installed with no updates.
1) One major issue I'm having is that the "What's new" section in the People app does not update. I've connected my Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts numerous times and the tablet tells me that things are syncing and it may take a few minutes but nothing ever shows up. The accounts do not show up under Options\Accounts either. Any suggestions as to my next step? I've also noticed that the Twitter app I downloaded from the store will not start, it shows the splash screen for the app but then goes back to 'Start.'
2) I've attempted to install some apps that initially showed errors during installation. Those apps do not appear in my "all apps" list but if I go to them in the store it says 'I own the app' and there is no option to install. As I said, this happened with a couple apps but did one specific example is with 'Evernote Touch.' Is the app store somehow showing me apps that aren't compatible with RT?
I appreciate any help or suggestions offered, it seems like this is a fantastic piece of hardware but either I am lost or there is a disconnect somewhere with the software.
1) People hub is kinda slow when it comes to updates - when I connected to twitter, it showed me people who I follow only the second time I opened it, and it was after some time. But it showed right away that I connected twitter in the upper right corner, so if it's not showing there, it's probably not connected. If they are, try waiting and rebooting. Apps that just fail to launch may launch on the second, third, n-th launch, Evernote is always failing to launch for the first time, for example.
2) When the app isn't compatible with RT, you can't install it. Also, you can remove apps, that aren't shown by this script from ms. There is also a troubleshooter for windows store from ms, but I don't remember if it works with RT, but you probably should try using it. Evernote touch is not only compatible with RT, it was written especially for it, so there's a problem with your device.

Hmmmm... Sounds like you need to refresh. I know it's a bummer, but that's the best I can think of. That kind of stuff shouldn't be happening. Otherwise you could always exchange it when you get a chance. Good Luck!
Hi guys, I'm sorry for the delayed response. I viewed your posts a few days ago and apparently I forgot to respond. The issue was apparently the fact that Google and MS are not playing nicely. Even after I wasn't seeing any new updates the system was still sluggish, maybe it was "settling" as is sometimes required in the Android world. I powered down and charged over night, restarted the next morning and made sure the wifi was connected and within a few hours there were more updates showing up. I updated and that's when my Google accounts quit working and I had to remove then set them up again. I also found the Evernote app hidden within "my apps" in the store app, it was "awaiting install," seems like an update restarted the system while it was installing and it didn't want to finish on it's own.
Everything is great now except for the calendar issue and a few everyday apps that seem to be lacking from the app store. I have yet to figure a work to be able to view my Google Apps calendar for work. I can see my regular Google calendar (can not edit but can see everything) but if I subscribe to my GApps calendar I would only be able to see free/busy because my domain does not provide an option for private calendar sharing.
Thanks again!

Try this, even though its a long shot: open Google Calendar, and browse to Calendar > Calendar settings (via the small cog in the top-right corner) > Calendars > "YOUR NAME" > Scroll down to where it says PRIVATE ADDRESS, and click on the ICAL button. Copy the following link. Now go to calendar.live.com, and click on subscribe (above the "month" button). Paste the URL there, name it, and save! Now check to see if your Hotmail calendar syncs on the app.
That works great for my personal Google account but does not work on my Google Apps account for work. I could subscribe to it but only see free/busy, not detailed information, as our company admin has not turned on private addresses. I understand this is an admin issue and not really a fault of the RT.
The fault lies in the fact that even with my subscribed calendar if I tried to edit something it would only be seen on the Surface. It would not replicate to the actual Google calendar and I would not be able to see it on my other devices. This issue stems from the Google/MS war regarding information sharing. My life is on Google because for a long time MS was light years behind the ease of Google's online features where everything can be done from the browser and then synced to your email client and handheld devices. In this instance, the users who spend good money with both Google and MS on hardware/OS are paying the price.
Thanks for your suggestion C-Lang, I appreciate your time and effort.
My phone was infected with stalkerware, they had access to my files, could view what was on my screen, listen into my mic, view my cameras remotely, everything! It's incredibly creepy! From what I can tell they somehow loaded q hacked version of Google Chrome and or android web viewer. After getting suspicious I downloaded Kaspersky and ran a scan, I found 2 versions of Google Chrome on my phone one of them had the dual messenger app icon on it. The other one said it wasn't a current version from the apps store. I Uninstallerd and downloaded the current version through the app store. I tried to see if a packet sniffer would lead me to them but I think I was too late by that point. I also pulled the Chrome app qnd decompiler it. There was some weird things in there like ignore playstore version but nothing that I could find that would lead me to who was watching me. Is there anything I can still do that will lead me to who did this? I have a strong idea of who it was but need evidence so I can prosecute them. Any help would be appreciated. Im putting up a 500 dollar bounty if anyone can help me get some solid evidence.

Try logging into your Google account from a computer. Look at what devices have access to your account. I looked at mine a couple of months ago and saw a phone I never owned on AT&T. Funny thing is I have NEVER had AT&T. I've always and still have Verizon. I immediately removed, blocked and reported the device.

Why are there two of these? And how did they use dual messenger to install doubles? I've disabled all of them.

Did you delete the corrupt Chrome already? The IP history may be in there...
you wish to find your IP address Internet history, you can easily do so directly from your Internet browser.
Step 1
Open your Internet browser, and click on "Tools" located in the horizontal menu bar at the top of the window.
Step 2
Click on "Internet Options"
Step 3
Click on "Settings" located beneath the "Browsing History" subheading.
Step 4
Click on the "View Files" button to find your IP address Internet history.
If you post the chrome apk that you dumped or anything else that you have that was related to the "infected" files, they might be helpful in looking for clues.
These are the apk files that I suspect could have been infected. Unfortunately I didn't pull them until after they were updated. But I believe there is still a change log kind of manifest if you decompile them.
On mobile? Im not seeing those options

From what I can see, those apks unfortunately appear to be normal un-tampered files. The manifest I believe you are referring to is a component of the apk that dictates things like permissions and interfaces, but it does not perform any sort of logging or historical record sadly, as the entire apk is replaced when an app is updated or installed over an existing installation.
I am not sure how much cleaning you have done of your device since it happened, but aside from clues or records which might be available from various services you use (finding connected accounts that aren't yours, history of any account activities that weren't initiated by you, etc), your next best bet would probably be to dig through the files on the device in search of anything that shouldn't be there. Hopefully there is still some artifact of the infection which could potentially point towards its origin. I will follow this thread, happy to dig through files in my spare time.
Does anyone know if android keeps a log of installs or qnything in the root folder perhaps?

Yes but I've never set up secure folder. Never felt a need to.
First thing I do is a factory reset (and hope that gets it) and reset the Google password.
Keep that bloody device 100% isolated from your PC and data backup copies including the SD card*. Wipe the SD card in the device before the reload and again after the reload. Do NOT connect the card or phone to your PC before the new load is proven clean. Load data directly to SD card from the PC then to the 10+ just in case.
Try to piece together when and what did it but that is a secondary concern. Consider it a drill.
Better get while the gettings good... that level of being compromised means no time to lose ditching the OS. I most likely wipe the SD card too and use one of the clean data backups I keep for just such an event. Torch all data on the device.
If it gets into your backup data copies you're boned.
OSs are 100% expendable, critical data is not.
*you can scan it with everything on the planet and still miss trojans, tainted jpegs/pngs, etc if no definitions exist yet. Expect multiple hidden infections now and go full nuke.
Isolating the infection to that device is only priority. It's possible the infection(s) are already on one or more backups and/or your PC. That's why it's important to keep multiple time staggered backups on multiple electronically isolated hdds.
I keep a 3 tier backup and my PC is never internet connected.
Keep your head and limit the spread...
