Hello XDA,
So I am currently running the NexusMOD (v3.8 Beta) Rom by goldfingerfif and have no complaint as to the roms stability it is perfectly usable as a daily driver. The only bugs I can say really annoyed me where the call echo (Which everyone’s custom rom had until the patch by yaldak was released) and not having the native option to WIfi/USB tether (But by just installing “Wifi Hotspot Pro” from the Play Store you have a simple work around) but both of those issues have been fixed in one way or another. So my question for you guys is What ICS rom do you currently use and why ? Does your particular rom have any additional features that other ICS roms do not? Does your current rom have a theme that you absolutely love ? Is it the Speed? Performance? Support? I would love to hear your feedback on this as I am satisfied with my current rom but may be missing out on the features of another and yes I am aware I can flash other roms and determine this for myself but come on guys creating backups and setting up your device just how you like it when you flash a new rom can be a pain in the butt the 4 time you do it.

The best ROM is the one that works best for you on your phone. Read, read, then read some more, understand what you're doing, then try them out one by one.

I might be wrong but this is what i think
The 1st link you posted is managed by the CM developers, the second link is Tripndroid who based his/her/their rom on the base of the CM developers rom. Basically adding and removing tweaks that this person/team likes and dislikes
If your considering rooting and installing a custom rom. I can recommend the 1st link been using their roms for more than a month now and it's very good rom. If there is anything about sense that you like and will miss try the Sense roms. (Viper and ARHD) are the two major ones that i looked into, before settling on CM10.

hi there just adding to the above post. the first rom is developed with an ultimate goal of becoming the official CM rom, and is ready for everyday use soo far from my experience. The second one is Tripndroid, and he adds his own tweaks as far as i know. however i havent used his ROM yet to know for sure.

Hi there, I am running the ROM from the first post and it's brilliant. I have tried the second one and found it had quite a few bugs and was not nearly as finished as the first ROM. I am busy downloading alpha 5 now to try and am sure it will be just as great as the rest of his updates have been.
Thought I would give my info based on user experience of both ROMs. Also depends on what you looking for; quick ROM or fancy looking, awesome features or a stripped out version.
Well thanks guys, i think i'll go for the TeamNDVRu when i receive my phone, but still waiting september to see if it's worth it or not.
And what about the known issues ?
- Occasional soft-reboots with GPS On + Facebook ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2184 )
- WiFi direct doesnt work
- MHL output is rotated incorrectly to portrait in horizontal mode (but workaround added since alpha 8 for hw decoded videos/youtube. Use bsplayer from playstore, almost all videos play with it in correct rotation in hwoverlay)
- No FM radio app in ROM. But Spirit FM works from market (it's commercial!)
- USB storage copies slower than normal
- Some paid apps loses settings/acconts due to this android jellybean problem: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34880 Solution is to backup with Titanium Backup and restore to internal memory, not to sd

Some of them will only occur if you have special need for something. (e.g. wifi direct)
Some of them don't occur for everyone. (facebook+gps reboot)
None of them are really a huge concern if you are willing to try jelly bean. And for most of them there is a workaround, fix given in the text you quoted. I have a jelly bean rom installed and I have to say that I don't really feel any negative impact by those known bugs/issues. But do note, that most of these ROMs are not as stable as the 4.0.4 ROMs like ViperX.
I have been using tbaldens ROM and it has been quite good. The ones by trip I have found to be a bit unstable.

I've been searching in the development section for a while, looking for any ICS or other ROM which is stable for daily use. All I find are attempts by people who say either they are not devs or it is their first attempt to make a ROM and sicne I don't have time now for trying and testing, could anyone point me to a stable, fully working ROM for daily use? is there any ICS working ROM or they are all buggy for now. The one I currently have is from an older 2.3.5 but I haven't found any newer either. IF ICS is not ready yet, then which 2.3.5 is using the latest base and is stable?

This is the most stable of all ICS roms.......But do keep in mind that some things might never work due to the lack of OMX binaries for ARMv6 devices
The things include video recording,full video playback,a perfectly working camera

I've read this which is marked as "not suitable for daily use" and daily use includes camera and video recording so if that's the best for now, ICS must not be an option for me.
This means that my question changes which 2.3.5 ROM is using the latest base and is quite reliable? I have to say that I haven't found any ROM to convince me that is realible or those that I found are using older base. Maybe there are some that are far away from the latest list and I haven't seen them.
Anyway, if someone uses a ROM with latest official build and it is fast, reliable and tuned well for battery and space usage, please recommend it to me.

Already tried the first one some time ago. It's a bit old and if I remember correctly it uses an older base, plus it has many necessary components removed (like, widgets)
The second one, I've seen it already and it seems that it has most parts chosen for bangladesh. Maybe I'm wrong but I usually avoid installing a ROM from someone who says he is not a developer and he attempts to make a ROM for the first time. Nothing againsta that dev but I'd rather save some time. That's why I posted here.
I think that everyone must have moved to CM and development on WFS must have seized so I guess I'm staying with that old ROM.
I think I'm getting all this stuff straight, but sometimes it seems like the more I read the more confused I get.
I know I could just try it out and see, but before I spend 2 hours getting dirty looks from my gf because I have my face buried in the phone, I would like to know I'm on the right track.

CM9/10 - these are experimental nightly builds, probably have bugs and probably not the best choice for a daily ROM
ROMs that say they are based on CM9/10/AOKP/MIUI/AOSP - these are more stable ROMs with parts cherry-picked from CM9/10/AOKP sources and are more likely to be suitable for daily use
I can use themes that say "a custom ROM like CyanogenMOD needed" (quote taken from the description of "Arctic Green" on the play store, I think this ROM will be refreshing, like a cool breeze on my balls) and they will have a theme chooser in settings
I need to flash GApps (If I want them)
I can still run another launcher, like Go or APEX
EDIT ADDITION: I still use stock radio/modem/firmware/AIO zips

With TW or without, Odexed or Deodexed these are basically modified stock (samsung based?) ROMs with no copyright issues which is why there is no need for a seperate GApps zip
I can (usually) only use themes and mods specifically made for the ROM I'm using (I understand that sometimes there are exceptions, lika a blazer theme might work on FreeGS3 and vice-cersa)
I can't use themes or mods that say "a custom ROM like CyanogenMOD needed"
Do I understand the differences? Any additions/clarifications are definately appreciated.

CM9 and 10 are currently in nightly stage, but that's not permanent. There will be a final, stable version of CM10 when all the bugs are squashed. As for whether they'll be good for your daily ROM, it depends on your needs. Most things in CM10 work fine as it is, but some things may be broken. Whether the broken stuff actually affects you depends on what you need your phone to do.
ROMs based on CM10 are usually not any less buggy. In fact, they will include any CM10 bugs plus whatever creeps in via the additional code, so they will most likely be more buggy than CM10.
Yes, you should be able to use the Play Store themes in Theme Chooser. Yes, you need to flash Gapps. Yes, you can use whichever launcher you like. Yes, you use the stock radio (not sure what you mean by all-in-one zips).
The ROMs in the normal development section are based on the stock OEM ROM or they are ports from other phones/ROMs. They usually don't require Gapps, not because of copyright issues, but because they are based on the stock ROM. The themes may be compatible across Touchwiz ROMs based on the same firmware, but check the theme's thread first. CM and other AOSP themes/mods are NOT compatible with Touchwiz ROMs.

Many people have a similar situation where you are wondering if you should keep stock or install a custom ROM on relative's phone, who is not a technical person.
I am wondering if it is better to keep the latest stock Android 4.3 on the Nexus (European version) or if I should upgrade it to a very stable almost stock custom ROM?
I will only be able to provide "maintenance" every 2 months.
My main goal of installing a custom ROM would be to keep it updated with the latest security patches, not so much to have the latest version of android running.
Is it so bad to keep 4.3 running on a phone when its user doesn't really need 4.4 or higher feature?
As you said, custom roms are more updated on security patches. Another reason that custom rom is better, is the additttional features offering. I have installed on many friends of mine custom roms without having any issues. On the contrary, if they change smartphone, they are seeking for those features on their new phone. When they realize that those features were custom things, they disappointed. The most custom roms have less bugs than the official build.
I would definitely recommend to flash custom ROM to your Nexus.
Our phone is really good maintained by our developers, so you can choose from many custom ROMs.
They will provide you more performace, better battery life and some nice features, that stock ROM can't offer you.
My personal option is the CM11 with custom kernel (Fancy, Franco or any other).
Don't try Lollipop ROMs now, because they are still unstable and have some bugs.
I had the same questions. Now though, after actually using a custom ROM I can confidently say that custom ROMs are the way to go.
The Galaxy Nexus wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for custom ROMs. They keep us updated to the latest android versions and not only that, but the features they add become essential to how you use your device.
And you're blessed to have a Galaxy Nexus. It's so easy to install custom ROMs on nexus devices.
Now that I've used them, I can't use my phone without them.

I say go for it! Just make sure you evaluate the knowledge/needs of the end user first, and let that guide your choice.
Example 1 - you're looking for a ROM for a not-very-tech-savvy user, so you need it to be as stable and problem-free as possible. You'd probably be best served by a 4.4 ROM that's been out for a while and has a long development/history of improvement.
Example 2 - your end user is reasonably tech-savvy, knows their way around Android and knows about the different versions, and also knows not to freak out or call you yelling "you broke my phone!" if there is an issue. In this case, check the known issues/bug reports for the 5.0-based ROMs and pick one with the fewest "daily driver" related issues.
I agree with use of an aftermarket ROM just due to the frequent updates and security fixes the stock ROM isn't getting. All the aftermarket ROM's I've tried are solid for stability. If you want to stick with stock, I do recommend rooting it to address a couple bugs.

Since I've updated to latest open beta, overall experience has been very bad.
So guys what is the most stable ROM available as latest oos is crapping on me and this is my main phone so I can't flash ROMs often.

Here is where you will run into an issue. Roms are very device, user and area dependent. So What is outstanding for me might be crap for you. So while you will get everyone stating their fav rom (regardless of stability), The best thing you can do is try a couple out and pick the one that works best for you, the way you use the device and the area you live in.
