[KERNEL][ICS][JB][08-10-12] PeanutButta Jelly Time - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Since people probably don't read through threads fully, here is the kernel that I've been packaging with my ButterNutz ROM for a while now, though this one is slightly newer. The full change-log can be found via the source link going to Github. I'll state that this is a very stock and minimal kernel. If you like changing things constantly like the CPU governor and IO Schedulers, you probably want to go look for another kernel. If you like something that works great without having to play around with 50 different settings, then this may be for you. I took the stock kernel source for the tuna board, and patched it up to the latest 3.0.x release, and am also keeping it merged with the tuna source from AOSP, as there have been a few changes since I initially put this out that just got merged in. I've enabled overclocking, though in my usage, the phone rarely goes up to the 1200/1350MHz steps. I've also set the GPU clock to the advertised stock setting, though it doesn't do much for performance from what I saw, but I also haven't seen an issue with battery life, so I left it where I set it. This isn't undervolted, nor does it support it. I tested several undervolt settings, and saw no change in battery life, regardless of what I set the voltages to. Getting rid of it just makes for one less thing to have bugs and issues. For those that are reading averse, here is the Cliff Notes version of features.
Features
Based on stock AOSP kernel source
Patched to the latest 3.0.x from vanilla kernel sources
Overclocked CPU/GPU
Simple IO Scheduler
LZO Compression for faster boot times
Compatible with all Tuna board Galaxy Nexus phones (toro, torospr/toroplus, maguro)
Flash and forget it, no need to spend 20 minutes tweaking for optimal performance

FAQ
Where is XYZ feature?
If you can't find it, odds are it isn't included. Look through the change log above to see if it has been added.
Can I have XYZ Feature added to the kernel?
Link to it and I'll take it under consideration. However, odds are, if it hasn't been included yet, it may not get added. I will add any features that I deem useful, and if you would like something that I don't add, the kernel is opensource, so you can easily add it yourself.

Well, it's working fine here, and for several other users that I've talked to. Not sure what the issue is, but I'd need more information that you provided to even begin to figure out what is wrong.
Also, updated the kernel. I removed some debugging, added in UTF-8 support, and also updated with some more changes from Google. Full list of changes are on Github.

Now here is a kernel I will run
Thanks.

Updated the OP with two new kernels. If you use tethering, you'll want the tether kernel as it should support wifi tethering properly. The other will only allow you to tether via wifi if you don't use encryption.

Has it been tested with the latest bamf rom

4th attempt on flashing this kernel, after wiping dalvik/ cache I flash the kernel it doesn't finish it says verifying partition size the it just drops out and says its done after two seconds. This is with all of your releases. Neither one will flash to my phone

I'm not sure how you're flashing it, but the updater-script in the zip does not print anything, nor does anything get mounted. It checks that you're using a tuna device and extracts the boot.img directly to the device node. It should take just a couple seconds to flash.

What recovery are you using I noticed that there it's a problem with TWRP recovery in updating some zip files.
Also you might want to try and flash back to stock and retry. Sometimes a fresh start is always best

I've only tested on Toro, but it should work on all variants.

Not to be an ass or anything but y would I have to go back to stock and then come and try to flash this kernel again? Every zip I flash (but this one) flashes fine via any recovery twp cwm etc. I haven't had my phone hang on boot logo one time until I flashed this kernel ....

Main reason to root galaxy nexus

Eventually I will be rooting my nexus but I'm wondering what is out right now that is worth rooting?
I know this phone is fairly new so I know there are betas out there
Is there a rom that is pretty solid?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Being that it's a nexus...
The roms are built (primarily) from source. And otherwise cherry-picked from other roms.
As such, they are ALL very stable, that I've seen.
The choice is yours.
Root access adds so much to the device...even without a custom rom.
The ability to back your system up.
Back up user apps to transfer to future devices/restore on your current device in the case of failure of some sort...
Better battery life from custom kernels/tweaks/etc.
Pretty much this

Q. I flashed CWM but each time I reboot the Stock Recovery is back
There is an auto recovery restore system on Android that will reflash the Stock Recovery if you flash CWM on a Stock Rom.
Use Root Explorer to Mount the system folder as R/W (or use a free app from the Market). Delete the file recovery-from-boot.p from /system. Now when you flash CWM Recovery it will NOT be overwritten after a reboot.

Or use Rom Manager (free) from the market.

[Kernel]Insecure/Rooted, Recovery-Flashable UCALH9[ADB][init.d][Custom Bootanimation]

Hey everyone,
This is a modified stock kernel based on AT&T UCALH9 and is ONLY compatible with stock-based ICS roms. I haven't seen this around so I decided to make it myself for all to use and assist in development. The root application of choice is Chainfire's SuperSU. Remember that the first boot takes longer than usual after you clear the cache.
Features:
•Insecure rooted kernel
•init.d script support
•ADB support
•Custom bootanimation.zip support
Instructions:
1.Download the recovery-flashable zip to your phone's SD card
2.Flash in recovery
3.Wipe cache and dalvik cache
4.Reboot and enjoy
Standard disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything bad that happens to your phone. I have personally tested this on my own AT&T SGS3 and it works great for me.
Special thanks to NunHugger for his infinite wisdom in helping me figure out how to get custom boot animations working and letting me borrow his updater script. Also thanks to dsixda for the amazing Android Kitchen.
Download:
From here
Mirror
Or, alternatively, directly from this thread
Kernel Source: http://opensource.samsung.com
Secondary ODIN Instructions
This is the modified kernel made flashable in ODIN ONLY. Do not flash this in recovery as it will not work. Flashing with ODIN will increase your flash counter so if you use it, make sure to use Triangle Away to set your counter back to zero. Flashing using Mobile ODIN will NOT increase your flash counter, however.

A deodex, rooted LH9 rom would be nice. Not a user of Aroma installer.

You will need to flash this from a custom recovery rather than 3e. Cwm or twrp will work. You can flash the tar file from Odin though. It will increase your flash counter though. Easily remedied once you're rooted with triangle away. Note that this will not automatically root you. Use qcom toolkit for that

Could be a few issues.
You could be on an old version of JellyBam that does not use the 3.4 kernel. You also could have downloaded the wrong kernel from the page linked. If you could give us your ROM version that would help.

Kernels are flashed in recovery, not Odin. The problem may be the recent display changes in KT's kernel. You may want to check his thread for an earlier build (pre 4/19) before the display commits were added.

correct. flash his 4/11 release.
and if you ever find yourself in a bootloop from flashing the wrong kernel, just flash the correct kernel in recovery. wipe cache/dalvik, fix permissions and reboot. good to go without having to restore or reset anything.
also, i'd stick with ROMs in this forum that are supported by the dev.

Hi Guys!
Since the jflte family of devices is almost exactly the same I thought I would post my I9505 (jflte) Rom here for you as well!
It has been tested by jfltetmo and jfltecan users and is confirmed working!
To install it, just download the I9505 rom and then flash the appropriate device specific package I created.
Download the rom from this thread
Download the appropriate device specific package
Install CWM or TWRP recovery.
Boot into recovery, install ROM, then install the device specific package then install gapps.
Wipe Data/Factory Reset if coming from another Rom.
Reboot and enjoy!
Your device name might show up as I9505. If you are bothered by it you can edit the file /system/build.prop in the rom .zip package before you flash it.
This does not affect the way the rom functions in any way.
Please let me know if you have successfully installed and running this rom on any of the US variants of the S4. I don't own the device!

I would love to see this ROM for the AT&T Galaxy S4 (I337) if you have time.
Our bootloader has been bypassed via Loki:

It says Bajee in the OP.
I didn't notice any way of adjusting the kernel.
Have I missed something?

I tried installing the ktoonz kernel, but my phone wouldn't boot up.

Did you flash the AOSP version of KT's kernel? Wipe cache, fix permissions, etc.?

Is the DPI supposed to be a 480 for all screens or just some of the screens/apps? Some screens still look tiny to me and I can't select more than 320dpi.
Using this ROM with kt's kernel on the at&t variant and phone calls reboot the phone, anyone else experiencing this?
Found the problem. Do not enable in call volume boost under device options - > sound.
Got the ROM flashed with Kt's aosp kernel. Few questions if anyone can help
How do I get rid of the on screen Nav bar and the circle menu on the lock screen?
And how do I get my signal and WiFi bars to be blue instead of gray?
Thanks for the help
Edit: also having bad connectivity problems. One bar to none where I would normally have 3-4 bars? What would cause this?

Hm. After wiping, flashing RootBox-JB-i9505-victorator-20130528.zip, followed by jflteatt.zip, followed by gapps, my initial Samsung splash now has a "custom" lock icon underneath it, followed by a yellow triangle with exclamation point:
System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone.
In tiny red text in the top right: "SECURE FAIL: KERNEL"
Looks like the kernel wasn't loki-patched for some reason? I thought this would be done for us as part of an i337 ROM distribution. Are we expected to loki-patch RootBox as part of installing it on the phone?
I think I followed the instructions... What am I missing?

The rom isn't loki-patched because it was made for the I9505 variant. You need to flash Kt's kernel (AOSP version) after flashing RootBox.
