I know there are several apps on the market that will help you find a lost phone. The wife really needs one and I'd appreciate suggestions. I am somewhat concerned about potential security issues and whether these apps require GPS to be left on all the time.
Tks
Personally I use lookout, but they also have an app that can be used even if your phone is already lost called plan b

Yes, if you have a sense Rom running and your signed in. You can also use latitude to see where your phones are but its not always 100% accurate. Or just call it and listen for the ringer

My Pandora is defective, I have removed, and re installed older versions, and no matter what I have tried, I'm not having success.
It plays anywhere from 1 to 1:30 minutes then it goes to another song, always.
My phone is rooted, they claim that they do not support rooted or unlocked phones, I'm not sure if this is the reason.
I use unlimited Pandora and I can't say I have notice that you can try it if you like

I was having the same problem with Pandora, but my issue was resolved by removing JuiceDefender. But I think the issue with JD has since been resolved.
I am a regular user of the Roam Control app and rely on it every single day to use my Sprint phone on indoor Verizon repeaters. As much as I love the app, it's licensing function makes it a pain to use if there is no signal available. I was wondering if anyone has or could build such a function into the ROM itself.
It only checks license the first time it is run

Just lost my phone in taxi I'm rooted also have face unlock and pattern unlock secondary. Is there anything I can do to assure the finder can't use it. Or can I track it. I'm on monthly 4g so no insurance!
That sucks man. As for gps locating your phone I believe that's offered by your insurance, or if you had any type of Norton, kaspersky, trend micro etc security on it. They offer stuff like that. Otherwise you might be SOL. As for them getting in I don't know. Maybe someone else can shed some light on that answer.

Go to the play store from your computer and download "plan b" it will be pushed to your phone and allows you to track it.

I hate how easy it is for someone to look up how to wipe a phone and easily bypass all security. Usually when someone finds a phone, that person doesn't want to know your stuff.
Where's my Droid can also be pushed, and then you can get it's location

2nd to the Plan B. That works amazingly. Also, check if you have a cab receipt. You might be able to use that to identify which cab specifically had the phone. You can call into their dispatch office and ask for that cab. Lookout is awesome too.
I called the cab said he saw no phone. Another passanger could have gotten it. I'm not even going to bother now what's done is done. Thanks to you and everyone for your help. I wanted a new phone anyway maybe my wife will get me one for fathers day. I find that the GS3 is not much of a significant upgrade from the GSII. I would much more suggest a Galaxy Nexus since it will still be relevant for many more months to come. The GN comes with pure stock ICS not that TW crap. The GN is almost certain to receive jellybean directly from Google pretty quick while the S3 will have to suffer through what the SII just went through from GB to ICS

I would recommend setting up a pin lock on your next device, that way whenever the phone is restarted it prompts you for the pin. It doesn't matter if it's been wiped or not, it registers with your carrier. Also, as added security, I use Avast and from there I can remotely wipe my sd card and the phone, thus removing any chance of someone getting any of my personal info.

Personally I like having a second phone to quickly and easily show off something cool on the new phone via video. I had a d2g that had a bad esn (I thought I could use it in Europe, but was locked out there too) and I used it a lot for that.
Also I use it when going abroad, as it will work in Europe and the states.
Also, I love using my old phones as alarm clocks. You'd be amazed how many days an old BB Curve will last with all the radios turned off. I'm guessing a Dinc2 would be good that way too.

Two questions. Could it be a GPS without a data connection?
Also, does anyone know of an app that makes your phone networked attached storage and / or plug it into a hard drive and act as an interface for NAS?

I know GPS will work without data, but if you need to pull up directions for navigation, you need to be on WiFi to download the coordinates. After that if you don't make it re-route it will work. As for the 2nd question.....idk

really on all these ideas. I still have my Eris (though the trackball still scrolls left) as an emergency backup, mp3/Pandora player for in-house and garage (anywhere WiFi reaches), and white noise machine for sleeping baby.
Sometimes wish it didn't have that trackball issue so I could use it more efficiantly, so a fully operational DInc2 laying around would be an awesome thing to have.
What did you end up getting?
Thanks for the advice. I also like the idea of an experimental unit, now that I do not rely on the device daily, I can check out the jellybean rom and try out google now

Yea, I used up all the paper in the house. It only lasts for a short while now, but it does work for a little (usually). I even replaced the trackball with a blackberry one. I was thinking about trying just caking the area around the trackball/circuit board with JB weld to prevent flex which I think is causing the intermittent contact issue caused by the location of the charging port in relation to the trackball.
Ah well, either way it is extra and it wont be the end of the workl if I destroy it!
Yay for extras!

htc/Verizon asks that you place your inc2 on end of barrel of a 12 gauge, insert 3in slug, make it rain incredible flakes. now your inc2 has been officially updated by Verizon
Like someone else mentioned, the phone could be used as a VOIP home phone. All it requires is a Google Voice account and an app called GrooveIP (there's a free version, but the $5 full-featured version is definitely worth the money in my opinion). I also take it with me when I travel, since most airports and lots of hotels offer free WiFi, which allows me to make as many phone calls as I like without running up my minutes. I've been using my Inc2 for this purpose for awhile now, and it's very nice to have. I keep the phone in a dock and also use it for streaming music when I'm home as well as for my alarm clock. Just because the phone isn't activated on a wireless plan shouldn't mean that it can't serve a purpose.
Only other piece of advice; I would steer clear of ICS/JB based Roms if using it as a VOIP phone. I had nothing but trouble with the audio settings on GrooveIP. But the stock Rom, or any GB-based Rom should work fine. I use MROM (which is CM7 based) and it works exactly as expected.
my phone has started doing something crazy today, whenever i talk on it, the radio drops after a minute, and dont come back untill i turn airplane mode off and on or reboot. it only happens if i talk on it. i have changed nothing, except flashing mrom yesterday, i did a full wipe and restored my cm9 backup, and it still does it, has anyone else ever had or even heard of this problem? is my phone just crapping out?
