it doesn't back up the kernel
a simple solution is flashing the stock kernel via cwm also
go to doky's stock kernel collection thread
go to this thread to flash your chosen stock kernel
based on my experience CWM can not restore all the nandroid back up.
specifically the KERNEL.
thanks, but i can't find my ddkl1 kernel in that list.

Of course it can be used, but with care!!!
I agree....
there should always be a warning
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dd_(Unix)
It is jokingly said that dd stands for "disk destroyer", "data destroyer", "death and destruction", or "delete data", since when used for low-level operations on hard disks, a small mistake, such as reversing the if and of (input and output) parameters, could result in the loss of some or all data on a disk.

Problem is, dsixda kitchen's latest version posted last July 2012 is unable to utilize the boot.img to extract the kernel and ramdisk (kitchen says the boot.img format is unsupported). I want to utilize the kernel I compiled. If you must know, I use ubuntu linux as a virtualbox guest (12.04).

Hello this is my first post and I come to request some help.
I have a htc one v and was trying to update to jelly bean through steps from Android Authorty's guide
After completing this set of instructions I booted up my phone and sadly all I got was a htc screen with the red writing which then turned black and nothing happened after that.
Im pretty worried right now, I dont have much knowledge about androids and I have but a clue as to what I have just done.
Is it permanently damaged? How do i fix this or atlest restore it to the factory state.
Please help!

Proud of myself for solving this i went to install the gsm version but sadly now i only get the htc screen with red writing.
It dosent change from there.
Have i done permanent damage because i installed the CDMA version!?
now im getting something really weird my phone goes to the htc screen with red writing then shuts off by itself and then turns on again by itself in a endless cycle of this red writing htc screen.

Alright... let's get your phone fixed!
I assume you have:
1. Unlocked bootloader
2. Installed a recovery
3. Installed a custom CDMA ROM
4. Then installed a GSM ROM
5. Now phone keeps rebooting?
Is that correct?

Not sure what´s so funny about this.
Hm well if you chose the rom you want to flash and start flashing there should appear something like" flashing" and "done" finally. Sometimes nothing appears because it´s up to the one who created the flashable zip what will apear while flashing a rom. After the flashing is done it will of course return to CWM. Then you either need to flash gaaps too or simply reboot your device.
