I changed my HTC device with an Apple Iphone..the major thing I miss is the XDA developers forum ... In the future can we (about 5000k people..) at least hope to have one ? cheers....
probably not, this forum is for ms pda's (mainly htc), notice not much talk of palm devices either you'll probably have to find other forums that discuss the iphone cuz ive noticed not many people on this forum even like the word iphone unless its getting bashed. so good luck but i wouldnt look forward to it
I heard Apple is releasing the dev kit for the iPhone...so people can start writing their own apps for the phone. Also heard something about being able to run webapps offline.
I'm sure the iPhone forums will take off as soon as people start developing for the iPhone.
yeah it's true. tomorrow for the devkit !
If it's not made by HTC you won't get it through the door. There'll be sites-a-pleanty once a devkit is out but probably none as good as this. I wonder if Apple will set about having them shut down? You can't have people using their own property for anything they want you know.....
another issue is that apple use objectC rather then c++ or c# or even old c or poorly VB
and objectC is a world apart from the other languages

This is really an HTC only forum.
Sorry to plug, but forums.macrumors.com has a pretty good iPhone/iPhone Hacking Community.
Hey!
A little Definion about "XDA":
"The [O2] Xda brand is a range of O2-branded Windows Mobile PDA phones, produced by multiple manufacturers (mainly HTC, Quanta and Erima). The first model was released in June 2002. The "X" represents convergence of voice and information/data within one product; the "da" stands for "digital assistant", as in PDA."
I think this forum should be specified in Windows Mobile. The iPhone isn't a productively device on the market! And the people who buy this expensive "Fun-Gadget" doesn't use it to develop something on it.
"The iPhone is a dust-bin: It can look beautiful, but the contents are rubbish."
Sorry for my bad English! Greetz

What part of the contents are rubbish? Just wondering becuase I just got a good deal on a 16gb and I cant find flaws. BTW, I purchased it to resell it becuase it was way too cheap. Not to mention, it would give me a chance to see what all the hype was about. Let me tell you...I know why so many devs on xda are trying to emulate some of the features and charecteristics of the iphone. Bcuase it is the best phone/handheld device that I have ever played with.
In my idea, not to go into all of the greatness of the iphone in my opinion, but if I can buy a 16gb for $400 (unlocked to use with any gsm carrier), $5.99 T-ZOne hack and many other cool things like SNES, NES with each having about 100 or so games etc. and the abilty to add 12 movies and over 700 songs and still have over 7gb to play with and still running like lightning.......my mind is made up.
DOnt let me forget about the accelorometer and the games that are available that utilize the accelorometer.
Please tell me where the rubbish is.
Oh and BTW, I am locked in my Verizon contract for another couple of months on my 6700 so I cant %100 test the calling capabilities yet as I have not hooked this one up.
So I know that it was basically JUST announced that the HD will now include these two games, but I'm wondering if anyone has cabs?
For anyone who hasn't read it yet: http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=3985
Alternatively, I would be more than happy to spend $10 on the Need For Speed version already available on several app sites, but it seems that version only works with hardware controls, whereas the version on the HD works with the G-Sensor.
It's always the way isn't it! You spend a truck load of money on a device and then the manufacturer comes along and makes it cheaper and better.
Oh how I curse thee early adopter syndrome!
Hopefully the legends here will be able to extract the games and cab them up. Can't see how it could be considered Warez. If the Need for Speed is as good as Xtrakt then I'm laughing. Devices this good need to have better games, and ones that make use of the g-sensor. As much as I love Uno, it's hardly impressive!
Oh yeah right, I "extract" something from a shop - how can it be considered stealing? I dont think EA (the game manufacturer) intends to share it here with all of us. Maybe Monopoly, its a trial and needs to be activated on the HD.

i think the guy means extract it from a rom when and if we get an updated rom with games in them, which would be possible, we jus gotta wait to see how they release them
freeware
it aint going to be freeware so they wont be on roms as that sort of thigs isnt allowed here. Rom cooking is tolerated by HTC and other parties but that would dry up very quickly if people started adding stuff like coreplayer mobile and non freeware games. You'll have to find a "backup" copy on torrents

If that's the case then how come an extacted copy of Xtrakt from the X1 has been permitted on here? We don't know (or at least I don't know) the details of how these games are going to be included in the newly bought HDs.
If there's something on the HTC site about it then I couldn't find it. The link from the wmpoweruser site doesn't go to any article and when I looked it wasn't a headline on the HTC site.
surely the word "Bundled" means included as in already on the phone when u get it, my prime example would be the xtrakt game that came with a xperia rom and was extracted and we can use on our device, so yes it will be possible if thats how the games were implemented.
i understand that ea dont release freeware games but if they do get released "Bundled" into a rom update theres no reason why we couldnt update to that rom so i dont see why we couldnt extract the rom and get the goods,
WE SHALL SEE,
you never know it might just be a link to the games in the box when u get the games

just beat me to it lol!
Folks, I'd be willing to bet the house that the next official ROM upgrade release from HTC for the HD will include the two games. And we all know that official ROM upgrades are free. So to me, if you own an HD, upgrading for free to a new official ROM that includes the two games, is no different than getting them here in cab form.
Now, if HTC never releases a new official ROM for the HD, then all that is moot.

Oh of course I forgot, HardSPL was made available by HTC, so you can update your ROM, and of course you can update your HD with a Xperia ROM and copyrighted software on it...nono...keep on dreaming.
I profit from updates and extracts like you guys, but I dont give myself false excuses for it. And again, the Monopoly game is just a trial on the Singapore HD. Peace.
im not making excuses im stating it how i see it, if it gets released in a updated rom then its mines MINES i tell u, if i have to pay for it i will, either way ill have the game,,,
so what about the manila update for rhodium that got bundled into a rom and extracted and now is available on our phones, so deal with it, calm down with your mr police officer act, we're all just speculating. not promoting theft
From my point of view they aren't selling it, so if we get it here for free they've not lost any revenue.
If they were to offer it for sale then that'd be different, but I'm sure they wouldn't be short of sales from us and others.
Given that we want to encourage games like this on WM it would be foolish not to buy it if we can. If we can't then we can still show that there's a demand for it.
I would most definitely be interested in acquiring those games for my HD! I hope you guys are right in your guess with them being included in the next rom update from HTC. I'm loving Xtrakt, Need 4 Speed would be the game I've been waiting for personally!
Hopefully soon!
it will be great to get these games.. i hate seeing the iphone ads on tv where they play games that utilize the g-sensor.. finally htc will utilize this utility and do it also!
I've confirmed that the version of this game currently available at Handango does NOT support the G-sensor.
So, HTC, hurry up already, will ya?!

it may only be AVAILABLE on the iphone currently...
but there is nothing the game does making it not POSSIBLE on the HD.
we just need some clever devs to start making decent windows 3d & g-sensor based games.
The only way I can think about, is to programm all fast applications in java.
But I cant do that myself. And microsoft is not innovative enough at the moment. Also missing is the multitouch function. Cant be so heavy Bill
Show us the future as soon as possible or you will loose a lot customers
too bad then. it was so nice to be played on windows mobile that game.

Dunno if they ever will, I have considered writing games but my work will just get cracked and distributed, just look around at all the request for free games, serials, cracks. Why would I put my time into it? I have to feed a family with the time I got, I imagine other devs too.
how much can cost that game? I supose that few euros, and if you collect from each user, you can make few ones.

The thing is, some applications for the Iphone are only 0.50 $ up to 1.99$
at the moment it sounds not really much, but I would rather give up to 2 $ instead of spending hours looking for cracked warez software. And you would have millions of customers instead of just 1000 and than it is cracked
Nothing stopping any dev's taking donations for their hard work. Also, I know of one person who takes money for Security unlocking devices, though does offer it for free to people who have already donated to XDA or have added value to the site.
In theory this game could work for the HD, but would require a good bit of time to develop it. Maybe too much time for one person to set aside.

This isnt a knock against the Nexus, but somewhat against ICS in general. There are more than a few apps that are unavailable to me to download that I purchased previous to getting the Nexus. Navigon navigation being one of them, is unavailable to get from play store. There are a few others, too, a motorcycle game I wanted to buy just now isn't available for my Nexus. This is I think one of the very few pros of owning an apple product. If the app worked on ios 4, it will work on ios 5, and if it doesnt, an update is issued soon there after.

Blame the developer for not updating it then?
Alternatively, go to the web store and try to install it that way.
The app developers haven't updated their apps yet. If you think about it it's to be expected. How many phones are running ICS out there compared to gingerbread?

OK, I guess that is the more correct direction to point the finger, the app developers, but I think google should lien on the developers some to get the apps working correctly, especially the big $$ ones. I have side loaded the Navigon app and its all messed up on ICS.

Google can't force developers to keep their apps updated though. That said, the play store says it has ICS updates. It is more likely a resolution issue.

I dont think the screen res is as big a deal at this point, there are several oddball size screens that apps look fine on. Droid X was one, 480X854, and everything was fine on it. Plus there are several 720P phones out there now.
Also on the Navigon app, its the voice that was messed up, studdering and repeating itself over and over.

480x854 isn't an oddball resolution; a good chunk of Motorola handsets and some Sony as well use this resolution.

This is true, I forgot to mention that.
It's easy for apple to make it easy because they've had the same screen size and resolution for over 2 years now, going on 3 if they don't change it up this summer.
I'm sorry, but blaming the developers is a far cry from the truth...
Lets face it, Google doesn't even prioritize developers... While iOS developers have access to preview versions of the next iOS, to start to debug in advance, that work on the latest available generation iDevice, google doesn't do that... So, while iOS developers had many months to debug and test and fix their apps (and at the same time, they did not have to buy a new phone), most developers need to wait until the first phone with the new Android O/S is released, and then it is like running against the time, as you need to grab a new phone, bla bla bla... And no, an emulator doesn't really help you with games and other apps that are high performance...
It is a shame that some big companies like E.A. seems to get no interest into the Galaxy Nexus (as the lack of good games like Real Racing 2, Peggle, PvsZ is astonishing for a multi million dollar company), but, as far as most developers are concerned, it is not fair to compare iOS and Android. One tries to give all the tools so the developers are ready for the launch, the other, meh... Gives close to nothing and all you earn is a big surprise with a new O/S where some things you were used to use doesn't work, and it is up to you to grab a new device, specifically when it was already launched and you have dozens of angry consumers telling that you suck...
I have a friend who is an Android developer and somehow has managed to keep device compatibility with each OS release without ever owning the device.
So interesting theory, but it is at least partially a BS copout. Especially in this thread, where ICS updates have been made to the program, and yet the GN has been out since November and has no support. That is of no fault from Google.
Also, developers that are not willing to spend money, to make money, suck anyway. I think Navigon can afford some Galaxy Nexus devices.

I can see both POVs for sure. I will always hate EA, they refuse to update their apps, REFUSE to, and WILL NOT respond to any email. I dont buy anything from EA on ANY console/device, that includes sports games. Anyways back on topic: If we were still within the first month or two of ICS launch then I would agree that we need to give the devs more time to work this out, but since we are not.. I say it is absolutely, at this point, the devs fault for not updating his/her app(s). I know there are some devs that are still currently struggling to get their apps updated and doing it without an ICS device, but personally I think its been enough time. Although better late than never. One app that comes to mind, and I mentioned this on another thread the other day, is WiFi Status! That was always a favorite app of mine, very simple, just if your WiFi is on but your not connected to a network it puts a symbol in your notif bar so you remember to turn it off.. How hard can it possibly be to update that!? That surely isn't Google's fault, its the devs.
OK, I feel the need to publically rant about my nexus 7 (sorry, utterly useless topic)
I'm tired of acting as a beta tester when I buy consumer electronics. The problems with multitouch on my nexus 7 32gb were hiliarious for about 10 secs. I don't even want to try out the various bootloaders to try to fix it software-wize. This kind of problem should not have happened in the first place, AT ALL. How the hell do these products get quality checked before being sold, seriously ? Multitouch is THE main and basic feature of such devices, how on Earth can it not be perfect out of box ?
I was wondering by the way : has Apple ever had any problems with the multitouch on its phones ? I've actually rarely had any apple phones / tablets in my hand, but each single time, the touch response was way better than any android device out there. How come ? (please don't tell me : "ok f* off and go apple already", it's an open question, I'm curious).
Also, this tablet being my first experience in the tablet world, Google clearly hasn't made up its mind if it's to be considered as a tablet or as a biggish phone. Gmail, for one, in portrait looks as stupid as Tapatalk 4 with its massive side menu you can't ever swipe away. I want a damn TABLET experience.
So the nexus 7 is going back to the shop, and I'll wait for some other device, which may be a long time, as I cannot imagine buying anything else than nexus (Can't bare manufacturer devices that already aren't supported anymore after being on the market for >4months).
I sicked of being played around, and tired of all this nonsense. :/

What's your point ? Nexus devices are supposed to be an especially reliable plateform for Android app programmers, not a vast google beta program for it's own developers !! (I'm talking about the basic hardware features here, not advanced / beta features in google apps)

I'd even say, a developer would require EXTRA STABLE hardware in order to program without having hardware bugs mixing with his own apps' bugs...
when you first discovered the issue did you try to return it? Have you read about the issue before purchasing it?
why not get an apple device, just curious.
I completely agree with you with all these problems with the Nexus 7, but for its price and speed compared to the iPad mini, I'll stick with my Nexus 7 since the problems are bearable for me.
While I agree with the OP in principle, almost everything in the computing industry is that way any more. There is such pressure to get new hardware/software out the door, that all vendors are putting stuff out before it is truly ready. I don't think Google is any more guilty of this than any other technology vendor. I've seen stuff a LOT more screwed up than the N7.
IMO there is an 80-90% chance most, if not all, of your touch issues can be resolved in 10 minutes using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428133
Of course you won't have the pleasure of ranting.
Your choice.
That is why I always wait at least a month before I buy something. That ways I can see if there is any problems with the first run. With the New Nexus 7 I new there was going to be issues with multi touch and I haven't had any problems with it yet. The only problem I have had so far is the keyboard sometimes freezes while I type. Not a big deal to me. No matter what electronic device you buy, there will always be something that will go wrong with it. I'm loving the New Nexus 7 so far. Just sad to see someone get discouraged over something that could be fixed by software. Enjoy your next tablet that you get.

Cheers. have a wonderful weekend. (and "Bon courage !" to all of you nexus7 users, I'm out)

Let's be honest here, you can always find a flaw in each phone/tablet out in the market. Everything comes down to your personal preference and your ability to accept certain flaws. Even ipads/iphones have their own set of issues. It may not be multi touch issues but there are some other issues.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
/waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
I dont have any issues. None that you describe. Then again, I'm not an end user. Which you sound like. Nothing wrong with that. But you bought something for power users and devs. Not Gramma's and Hippsters..
I change the things out with other things that give me issues or that I don't like and I have full control of the tablet. Something you'll harldy get elsewhere.
But thats not what you want. You want rock stable. So buy an Apple. (which has its own issues, But thats not where I am going) or a windows slate...Muahahahahahahahahahaha....Sorry, there really is no place to go that doesn't have some kind of issue. Maybe Buy a chalk board. Those haven't had many issues in like 100+ years.
I love how everyone has their own way of fighting with OP. He wasn't trying to engage a fight simply saying that the Nexus had too many problems for his liking. I was very very close to leaving as well myself. If there was any comparable alternative I would have been gone long ago.
Why do you guys make excuses for Google? Nexus is for developers only? LOL guess u think this site is developers only too. Sure, stuff happens when your factory is in China... But this is excessive..
There needs to be accountability and quick corrective action (Google has taken some action, but not enough yet.) if we sit here and accept whatever garbage is fed to us, we will always be fed garbage simply because they can.

Tell you what, PM a mod and ask them this question. I bet you find out real quick how wrong you are. This site is only for developers. Everyone else is allowed to post because they allow it. You must be newer. When I joined if you even posted a topic such as this you'd one get ignored or flammed into oblivion and two most likely warned or straight up banned.
You fail to realize that without the devs this site is just a....forum.
The name of the forum is; XDA (delevelopers).....
Really some of you ppl...

Xda developers, yes... How many people are developing for Xda? I guess we should all be banned. What kind of statement are u making did you even think before you post?
Yeah, maybe a mod thinks this site is only for developers... But I would like to see the reaction on the site owners face if you told him they have banned all non developers. Ad revenue instantly = 0
Historically the site was started for developers maybe but now I guarantee 90% of site content cannot be considered development. Unless you consider a million replies asking where to download Gapp zip for paranoid android development....
Stuff like the OP doesn't belong Development forum, but can you blame the guy for posting here? I went through 20 Nexus only to find out that it was a firmware issue. Google messed up royally...
