Hi Folks!
My younger brother has a Wildfire that´s developed a most annoying behavior.
When using Google Navigation the GPS connection gets lost on occation. Seemingly without reason whatsoever.
Most of the time restarting Google Navigation will suffice but once in a while a reboot is required.
The phone uses stock rom 2.22.405.1 and is not rooted.
A hard reset hasn´t been attempted but probably will at some point if nothing else helps.
However before resorting to that kind of heavy handed trouble solving i´d like to ask if anyone has had a similar issue and perhaps know of a possible fix?
Regards
ELO
Hi. This is something new, haven't heard about anyone having this problem. I dont know if this will work for sure but the most issues with GPS can be solved by re-flashing your radio. First create a NANDroid (Backup) Then download your specific radio, put it in the root of your memory card, go into Rom Manager, and click on
"Reboot into Recovery"
Then just flash the .zip file you downloaded.
Hope this helps!

OP's phone is not rooted, so this is not applicable. I can't seem to think of anything than a factory reset and a reflashing of your ROM's RUU. but, hopefully you get your answer before that.
Oh sorry I didn't see that part. I thought he said that the phone IS rooted. Sorry
Hi guys!
Thanks for the input. As this issue hasn't crept up before I'm beginning to wonder if it might be a hardware malfunction. I'll suggest a hard reset and if that doesn't do the trick we'll try to get it fixed under warranty.
I'll report back for the result of the hard reset.

ELO.

Do you want the bad news? The only way to get it back is to restore a backup, the key is not to match the rils that is what breaks it,I could not enter the details manually, phone complains no sim card found, and yes the APN details are what gives you your data connection!

I dont think your phone is dead, could you roll back to an earlier backup? The experience Ive had was that the minute the rils got matched my data connection was broken and the only way to get it back was to restore from a backup from a few days ago,are you trying to restore a "broken" backup? if not what about doing a cache wipe then reflashing the rom?

Ok I will try and do some research, could you try a different rom say unity 2.35?Reflashing the ROM should overwrite all files, have you a weak signal?could that be the problem?Try and flash a different ROM and see if that gets your APN back, also when you go to check your APN settings what happens?

I've try different version of ARHD and other ROM since this morning ^^
Now i will try with and RUU signed package, and see after that what it happend,
I think a clean install of the rom and the radio in the same time can fix the bug =)
after that i'll immediately try to reinstall a custom ROM with the good radio-romof course =D
Thx U again for your help, I'll keep you posted/updated.

Best of luck and hope it works out for you, cannot understand why reflashing a rom does not clear the issue, keep me posted
EDIT
Try flashing a newer radio version, flash the radio first then reboot to recovery and flash the ROM
I see the recommended radio is Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M which is alot newer that yours v12.35d.60.14fu_26.06.03.24_M2 flash that first

I will write the process for solved the problem, if someone have the same sh*** :
- In first trys to reinstall rom radio and rom after a full wipe
- If it doesent work try to restore an old and functional backup
- if it still dont work (yes, yes it's possible, read the previous post =) ) download the most recent RUU package for your phone
- Install it, normally after that your phone work.
- Next You can eng and radio s-off it,root, and flash your favourite DHD =D
Thx so much to Bombardier
edit: finally it doesn't work again... i don't understand, it was working all of the day and after 8hours of use, it's broken...
I'll follow your advertise and try with the virtuous unity rom and the recomended radio, maybe the ARHD is not so well for my DHD model...
edit 2 : dont work too with the last vrsion of virtuous unity and the recommended radio... the check box mobile data is unactivable i can't check it ? anyone have an idea please =) ?
I think, bad new, that its a hardware fault ... try Re RUU, then try installing miui or cm7 and let's see if it works.
If it doesn't, send it back for repair.

Hello.
I have problem with GPS on my Wildfire. What's the problem ? The GPS doesn't work. I have flashed the radio but it's still doesn't work. Can you help me to solve this. My ROM is CyanogenMod 7.
I had similiar situation a few months ago, and I flashed Radio and it worked.
Please help me
Hi there
When activating GPS on your Wildfire on CM7 it doesnt show up in the status bar until you open an app like Google Maps to get your location.
You may not have a problem with your GPS but just cannot seem to find it i had the problem with mine when ifirst rooted.
To test if it is working download GPS Test from the Play store and when you open the app and turn GPS on the symbol for GPS should appear!
Hope i can help
Depends upon which version of CM7 you flashed. Some radio's work with a particular kernel and some don't.
Flash the correct radio it will work.
Or just try to flash another kernel
For me it works fine with latest radio and nFinity kernel on CM7.2
Try to flash another kernel. Sometimes kernels are involved in malfunction of services like GPS or WiFi. If that doesn't work, reflash the radio but make sure that you don't have a custom mtd partition. If you do, revert the mtd size back to stock and then reflash the radio. I had the same problem with you and tried to reflash the radio but it didn't work because i had custom mtd partitioning.
I had the same problem
Someone suggested me the AGPS patch.. it worked for me..
In fact its a charm..

Just as a hint: you can also find all the Wildfire stuff in The complete Wildfire index (partly with short descriptions)
You could also flash a new/different radio with Clockworkmod but you'd need Clockworkmod 2.5.x for that, newer versions won't do.
I also knew of other people who flashed the "older" radio and got it to work. The aGPS patch is just a speed improvement - if your gps.conf isn't corrupted accidentially it won't help if GPS doesn't work at all
Rather than trying to install any CWM flashable GPS fix.zip, go to the Play store and install FasterGPS:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ult#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5mYXN0ZXJncHMiXQ..
It is working great for me on my CM 7 install on Wildfire S. I get 9-10 locks in 10-15 seconds.
Good Luck!

If his GPS doesn't work at all I doubt this will help.
Just for clarification: radios aren't just flashable GPS fixes they're the lowest system layers on your phone and responsible for more than just GPS.

for improving GPS lock speed you don't need an app. I just replaced my gps.conf with the same result (link in my sig)

If "GPS doesn't work at all" means that it doesn't lock successfully, then it is the same state that I was experiencing with CM 7. FasterGPS worked for me that is why I suggested it. No harm in giving it a try anyways.
Yes I know, FasterGPS doesn't do anything else rather than replacing the default gps.conf. The app isn't such a feature-rich app rather it just simply allows tweaking some gps.conf parameters. And it backups your original gps.conf in case you want to un-install it.

of course. Since this was his first and only post and he didn't answer to one of the responses for about a month I guess we won't find out what exactly "don't work" means
Regarding FasterGPS: one of the reasons I rooted my phone has been to gain more RAM, space and control. Anytime I have an easier way to adjust settings than to use an app I'll try to do so as this saves space - but this is just my personal opinion and I've also used apps to adjust only one tiny setting in the phone - luckily if we own a rooted device we can decide ourselves.

Hi,
after flashing the most recent jellytime my gps does not work anymore.
I hope to fix this by flashing a new radio (I currently have 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M).
As my data-cable is broken I wonder if it is possible to flash a new radio via clockworkmod recovery.
I ask because evidently flashing a new radio is a bit risky and I came across some postings that said you should not / cannot not use clockwordmod for that...
Many thanks!

No, radios must be flashed in hboot as PD98IMG.zip files. There is no need for usb cable to do that. Make sure that you read the radio thread. Use the guide in my,signature to help yourself.

There is no guarantee that flashing a radio will fix your GPS.
I would almost say that flashing a radio and fixing a GPS has nothing to do with each other.
You just have to live with the fact that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doenst work after a flash.
No one knows why, and it seems like no one is trying to fix the problem.
Developers are busy pushing the lastest android version instead of trying to fix the most basic stuff.

Actually, I was in the exact same state. After flashing the most recent JellyTime (R6.1), GPS wasn't working at all.
Flashing the latest radio fixed the problem completely.
I don't know why the previous radio was fine for stock but not for JellyTime R6.1. But since the problem was fixed only by upgrading the radio, it definitely HAS something to do with each other.
Oh, and I didn't come up with the idea to try the latest radio on my own. Many people have reported in the JellyTime thread that this had fixed their GPS issues. So it's no coincidence...
I am having problems...
Here is what I did: Download aded radio, verified md5, put it as PD98IMG.zip to the sdcard top level.
The zip file is ok I can unzip it, there is boot. img inside.
Now when I boot into hboot (showing s-off) I get a very fast message about reading the file and then some error message 'no image found or something similar (it all goes very fast) and no update performed.
How can I resolve this?
Many thanks!

Thanks for your reply but I don't get it.
What txt-file would I need? Can you provide a direkt link to your tutorial as from the several links in your signature I cannot find it...
Ok, got it sorted out.
I had initially downloaded 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M but that zip only contains radio.img and while that may be enough to flash via adb or some other tool it is not sufficient for flashing via hboot (which is what I needed to do as my cable is broken).
So then I got 12.68.60.29U_26.16.04.09 and that contains not only radio.img but also android-info.txt and hboot had no problems flashing that.
My GPS works now, so there is definitely a connection between GPS-problems and radio-images.
This is the first time ever I updated my radio and the issue with the missing android-info.txt was nowhere mentioned (thanks for glevitan for pointing me in that direction), so I guess it would be nice if the radio-thread would point out which zips are suitable for hboot-flashing and which are not, but oh well...
Also I found it strange that the system-browser repeatedly failed to download the radio-images (I did not get any error but the downloaded file was only a few hundred bytes) - I had to use Opera for that.
