[Q] Arconium ICS 2.2 issues - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone! I've installed arconium ics 2.2 with stock kernel as suggested on my arc s. It's a fantastic rom, with all the smoothness and response.. but I have a couple of important questions.
1)Does the battery drain really fast once you start using the phone? Cause just over a minute or two of 3G web surfing, I lost a percent of battery. Otherwise in standby, it's great! It's just that I felt the battery drained more slower in GB.
2)In No Frills CPU control, which would be the best governor and settings for lag free performance with as less battery consumption as possible.. I know everyone wants that, but given so many options, and even going through the summary of what each governor does, I'm still confused..
3)The 720p video recording lag issue, although its widely known. I would like to know if it can be completely rectified in the upcoming updates. It's because I use video recording many times and it's just as important feature to me as everything else in the phone, otherwise I would have to switch back to GB again.
P.S. The only widgets active for me are the status bar, weather (updates every 2 hours) and world clock.

Have you tried disabling the torch and brightness widget buttons through quickpanel settings?
It also depends on your wifi usage, background processes (which I think you have a lot) and many other little things you may have overlooked. I've managed to get 1% per hour battery drain in standby mode. But once I start using it, there's this massive drain.. :/

[GUIDE] Improving battery life for non-TW ROMs

A bit dated of a post, but most if not all still relevant. We have a lot of non-TW ROMs for this phone which sacrifice battery life for improved functionality, not by choice, but mainly because Samsung's lack of GPL compliance with regards to sharing kernel sources. Our community devs have done an incredible amount of work with their kernel forks, but Samsung's paid development teams obviously have a lot more time and incentive to work on it, and as such our community devs' graciously find even more fixes once source drops, then merge them into the community kernels we're all using. So as we wait in limbo for them to share their JB kernel contributions to our community:
Anyone that wants to add anything to the list, post to the thread and I'll keep collecting.

--not battery-related, probably causing opposite effect actually, but many find an issue with headphone audio being maxed out at lower dB than desired. I'll confirm this works on CM10 nightlies.
WiFi : Turn it off when not in use, just like anything else. Tasker does a great job of automating this process.
raise the network scan interval to reduce background wifi radio usage (Rom Toolbox allows build.prop tweaks such as this,)
change the sleep policy for the wifi to Never While Charging to allow wifi connection to die when phone is off (toggle is in the touchkey menu while viewing wifi settings.)
NOTE: WiFi is a more desirable data connection than 4G as far as batt life is concerned. 4G is auto disabled when wifi is on for most ROMs. 4G (WiMax) is a new technology that still has yet to be perfected, not unlike these latest developments in ICS.
4G Radio: Also turn off when not in use. Use the latest modems available. Note that modems won'tt install from ODIN/mODIN flashes, gotta use CWM zip installs.
Haptic Feedback: Turn off haptic feedback, vibration kills. (Particular to CM9 ROM, haptic is set too strong right now, TouchWiz-based ROMs are fine, but if you can live w/o it...)
LED notifications: Another wakelock offender. Turn them off for now, it's one of the reasons the device stays awake when it should be sleeping. Sleep is good.
Get BetterBattery Stats by chamonix : Take a look at it after a long period of uptime without restarting (quick or full) to allow a greater set of data to parse into stats. Some apps you use may be eating away at your battery from the background. Spare Parts Plus and it's root-friendly brother BladeBuddy is also valuable.
Use the latest kernels available. If you're flashing CM nightlies, you're good to go, kernel modifications are updated in the same process.
Touch sounds and screen lock sound: These still cause partial wakelocks , leading to some amount of battery drain. System Settings>Sound menu to turn these off for now. (thx coiledwire)

Android-specific:​
BatteryStats.Bin This little file keeps a record of your battery usage, power amperage, etc. and every time you flash a rom, it gets wiped. The system's ability to track the exact power level of your battery is DIRECTLY dependent on this file, so if you don't allow the newly flashed system a few days to calculate averages over time, it won't really have time to realize how charged it really is. NOTE: this file has NOTHING to do with improving battery life, only calculating what the battery % shows in the statusbar (and in the battery statistics charts in the system settings menus.) I've sat at 5% battery life for an entire hour with screen on surfing the 'net. No way it was really 5% that entire time.
While wiping battery stats won't increase battery life, it will improve the calculation of the charge, if done properly. Stats are saved in /data, when a ROM is installed, initially the stats will not have much data to extrapolate from, and the battery probably isn't entirely full to begin with, therefore making a mess of a new ROM's recognition of the cell's true charge. It's best to wipe stats when your charge is above 4180mV (E4GT stock battery size.) I've seen mine as high as 4202mV. Also, if you've got aftermarket cells that aren't the same mAH rating, the results will be slightly wonky. Battery Calibration app can set a reminder to flush the battery stat counter file when the phone is charged, if you need to charge with your device on.
I notice that flashing roms with a battery @100% and charging will help in this regard, then once the system is fully booted, unplug it and drain it to 15%, then charge to 100%, then do :
Bump Charging is suggested by HTC developers to potentially DOUBLE your battery life.
Battery Tuning: We're running Lithium Ion batteries. Don't kill it to 0%. Ever. Tip: Condition your new cell phone’s battery to make it last longer (but be sure to condition it properly)
Live Wallpapers and other background services: If you can live without them, turn off the services. Many common apps trigger network connections on a periodic schedule, further causing drain. increase sync periods, or just sync manually.
Sync: Yet another form of background services. If your sync is running all the time from frequent emails, gvoice msgs. etc... and the like, try turning off some of your heavier data tranx and refreshing manually when you need it.
Again, please tack on posts for this thread if you have good additions to make, I'm just trying to collect a one-stop shop of battery life savers, and a place to point newbs when they start trainwrecking dev threads with questions about it. This is my humble way of giving back cuz I was one at one point.
Thanks, some of these tips most users may know but the one that helpped me was the notification light when running cm9! I worked 10 hours a day and cant use my phone but my battery was draining like crazy! Much better!

Well, its just my routine. I charge to full, power down charge to full, unplug, power on, plug back in. When. I open Battery Calibration app, if battery shows 100% but only like 4110mV instead of 4180mV+ I will unplug and plug back in a minute later then wipe stats when it shows anything over 4175mV and 100% charge...confusing enough?! Lol

I was really dissapointed with ICS.
I was still running EL29- Rooted and was running everyday on 14hrs with Wi-Fi always on. so after seeing that most bugs were fixed on FD24 i updated and yesterday i was running on 5hrs tops with Wi-Fi on.
So i did some suggested tweaks.
Wi-Fi off.( only ON when i need it)
GPS- I unchecked the last to option on the location.
Adjust haptic
uncheck some Sync from Google.
by the way what's? "Internet Sync"
and now.... im at 66% after 7hrs of being unplugged.
Internet sync meaning anything that may transfer data in the background like google talk, weather apps, Skype, etc.
Glad to hear those stats ! Take a screen Cap of the battery stats when it gets below 10% and post here

Suggestion, with disclaimer: Use the latest stock or Rogue kernels and modems. sfhub keeps the most updated modem D/L list . Don't forget that you should not flash ANYTHING from ICS kernel/recoveries yet!!! There are known issues with these kernels, and every last one of them is a beta stage leak from samsung along with a custom recovery and some little tweaks to work with the various ICS roms. The flashing HAS bricked MANY phones! There will be great fanfare and notices from the developer teams once we have an ICS kernel that works. It's mostly dependent on Samsung releasing sourcecode, although there are some teams working on porting the source of the other Galaxy II's... the race is on!
Touch sounds and screen lock sound: These currently cause partial wakelocks in Galaxy S2 ICS ROMs , leading to some amount of battery drain. System Settings>Sound menu to turn these off for now. (thx coiledwire)

Battery Tuning: If you didn't condition your battery when you first got it, good luck. In any event, try to condition it from here on out by burning it out completely (phone won't boot with it) then charge 100%, keep it off charge until it dies again, CWM Wipe Battery Stats, run the battery down again without charge. Repeat the charge/kill cycle a couple times. New kernel or ROM? Start from scratch again. Battery stats are saved in /data, so old stats can mess with a new ROM's recognition of the cell's true charge. Also, if you've got aftermarket cells that aren't the same mAH, you'll only get as good a conditioning as the weakest battery can take. Battery Calibration app can set a reminder to flush the battery stat counter file when the phone is charged, if you need to charge with your device on.

I've also since learned that wiping battery stats does nothing with prolonging battery life. There's numerous articles quoting official Google/Android developers where they explain this flat out It may help your system recognize the true percentage of your charge, but that's about it.

I've found that taking the wifi frequency band off of auto and changing to your desired frequency helped my battery when Im on wifi and the phone is sleeping

Ok here are my screencapture for FD24.
I just updated to FD26 using NoData It looks like preserve all my settings so I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow , I will report back.

....or just stick with GB roms that work and stop suffering yourself these ICS leaks.
Some of us have flash addiction. Some of us enjoy bring Guinea pigs for development. I for one just left my last phone running cm7 and couldn't bear the austerities of a stock ROM. The GB twiz hacks are alright, but it doesn't feel like home to me.

A few of us are actually doing better with battery on ICS. One problem is that we get so many leaks and ROMs that the battery might not be having a chance to settle

Agree with just about everything. One thing that I disagree with is letting your battery die at all. It actually decreases the life of the battery in lithium ion batteries. Its an old school method for old batteries. Try never going under 15% if possible. Everything else is correct as far as I can tell.

On the topic of battery calibration, if you know how to run scripts, the creator of V6 Supercharger and 3G Turbocharger scripts has also created "Die Hard Battery Calibrator" which will calibrate your battery in only about 20 minutes (must be plugged in that entire time)

[Q]Completely wipe phone

Hey, I'm trying to fix my battery drain during light use. Having screen on for not even 5 minutes eats around 2% of my battery. I've calibrated, gone through many different ROMs [GB(CM7,MIUI,Sense) and ICS] with full wipes(format and wipe). leading to my question in hand... how do I completely wipe my phone? I visit the wifi settings and see a wifi history that were from a pretty long time ago(before wipes). This leaves me thinking I have not fully wiped my phone in between flashing. Does the google account save wifi history or something? Thanks for any tips!

You seem to be wiping your phone correctly. The WiFi settings are backed up under the Google account and are restored when you add the account again. It also backs up other settings, wallpaper, and app data of certain apps. Here's an easy way to fully wipe your phone (including the SD card app files in .android_secure) - http://tinyurl.com/66fc8og
It's called super wipe script and it is from the Android Revolution HD ROM thread, thanks to mike1986.
Sometimes the battery loses it's ability to hold charge after sometime. This happens when the battery is quite old or due to various reasons that I don't know. You'll need to get a new battery then.
On the ROM side, a good ROM+kernel combo gives the best battery life. Instead of using a plethora of apps to save battery, finding the right ROM & kernel combo and choosing a good CPU governor and min-max frequency settings will give you much less battery drain. I don't use any battery saving apps, but I run a great ROM (CM7.2 RC1) with an awesome kernel (LorDModUE 8.9b7), with smartassv2 governor running 122-1152 Mhz and a few build.prop tweaks.
You can try out my combo and see if you're getting any better battery life. The max I've gotten recently is 14 hours of heavy use with 4 hours of screen on time, wifi on for 75% of the time and a lot of web browsing and video watching. I usually keep my phone in 2G mode and only change to 3G when I need to use the internet. 3G drains the battery really fast. On average I get around 13 hours heavy use, 1 day medium use and more than a day of light use (with mobile data off unless when necessary). I get around 1% per hour drain in standby.
You can try this ROM VictoryMod by victoryo. It has my same ROM+kernel combo I've mentioned before + build.prop tweaks. Change the CPU governor to smartassv2 with 122-1152 Mhz frequency. It gives great battery life.
Among the Sense ROMs, Android Revolution HD with klquicksall's kernel and LeeDrOiD HD with LeeDrOiD's kernel give awesome battery life.
Thanks for the reply! I greatly appreciate it. As for my ROM, I've been using the latest LeeDroid, but the battery drain seems to be happening across all the ROMs I've tried recently. I never install battery saving apps, and I keep default kernels and settings. The problem is probably with my battery, I've had this phone since last May, so almost a year. Battery life stats and questions

What's a good figure for battery life on the GS3? The best I've got is about 31 hours using on demand and bfq. Any one got better life using other settings? I heard someone getting about 43 hours life but that seemed to be a little unbelievable. Let me know what your getting

What you reported is definitely "the average". Most actually only get a day, if they're lucky of moderate use and have to plug in before sleep every evening and get going on charge in morning. So its more like 15 hours actually. And your 31 max is very common high end for people who've stretched it out.
I'm not sure if you're stock rom or not and if rooted either but that makes a big difference.
I'm rooted ( and would ALWAYS RECOMMEND ROOT FOR EVERYONE EVEN UF NOT FLASHING ANY ROMS AND STAYING ON STOCK. The ability to have full control is important.
Changing kernels and more importantly, undervolting, will give you that longer life you're looking for.
I'm currently on KyanROM with either Ktoonez or Faux kernel (heavily tweaking and testing both) and have this phone beautifully undervolted to exceptionally low and very stable mv numbers! Thus getting me that lovely 36-45hour average (you mentioned you saw posted elsewhere - yes it is possible and many are doing it). I basically only need to plug in every OTHER EVENING or night between 6pm and midnight depending on usage and I'm a moderate to heavy user (with a lovely 3-5 hours of screen time as well) AND I also have my phone overclocked to 1.8Ghz! Surprisingly, the oc doesn't make much battery life impact at all because the phone isn't constantly having to run at high levels, only in short spurts. Actually, due to rooting and kernel change I'm able to have my phone run as low as 192Mhz during much of its general activity and deep sleep ( which I get a ton of as my phone basically always goes into it when the screen goes off). This saves me A LOT of battery life.
I also use LTE, which is actually one of the biggest if not the largest battery hog, next to screen time of course. But with that being said I only use it when needed and have it turned off when not in use.
As for my peak I was able to squeeeeeze out 87 hours once, on my stock battery BUT that was with some abnormal(for me) measures that really help conservation. Ie, no LTE, under clocked to 1.2Ghz for good part of the three days, much less then normal screen time over the period of which I used it at lowest level with even further reduction via screen filter, I actually used airplane mode during my three overnight sleeps (which I seldom use but if you can hack it, do it! It can really save battery overnight. My current setup basically SIPS MY BATTERY AT 1% EVERY 3.5-4 HOURS OVERNIGHT WHEN IN AIRPLANE MODE), mobile data was off for most of time but did use my wifi at normal level (wifi uses less especially if good signal with few reconnects/scans), used my typical low UV numbers, kept my notification updates/syncs/wakelocks to a minimum and lastly kept my memory virtually clear if unnecessary background apps.
Doing ALL of this allowed me to get OVER THREE DAYS BATTERY LIFE. But keep in mind I seldom do many of these battery saving tips on a regular basis but some do and if you can, they WILL work to extend your life substantially!
To wrap up (this long winded post/reply) I'll give you my general UV mv range numbers and the typical everyday simple battery saving methods I use.
1.My voltage at lowest clock of 192mhz=800mv with gradual (smooth and almost linear curve) increase up to a mere 1200mv at a whopping 1.890Ghz clock.
I use NOOP scheduler with ONDEMAND governor most of the time, sometimes SmartassV2.
My screen off and deep sleep use this lowest 192 clock speed and with no wakeup lag.
2. I use my screen at 0% brightness most of the time (except when outside or in high lighting environment). I use the brighrness widget app to control this as it is easier and works better then stock settings. I actually even further reduce my brightness with Scree Filter App. That app is awesome and often use it solely for brightness control because it has full control and can dim it to basically full black if wanted. Which is MUXH lower then stock control. Fyi I use my phone a LOT more at night or in dark environment thus allowing me to dim screen HEAVILY yet it still is actually plenty bright with ample contrast in dark environments to do everything. This saves on my battery HUGE!
3. I use LTE when needed and GSM/HSPA+ when not. Seldom turn of mobile data altogether. I do turn off wifi when out and only using mobile data.
4. I use Screebl app to have screen turn off when not in use. Its great liitle app. Basically let's you turn down screen timeout to 15 seconds or less so screen is never unnecessarily on but it always stays on when in use due to the accelerometer and it knows when the screen is not flat on table! Its very annoying when browsing or doing stuff where screen isn't touched for long periods and the screen goes to sleep! But this stops that! So its always on when upright or in use and when phone down it turns off immediately.
5. Very important step and can take some time and research but making sure to keep partial wakelocks and apps keeping device awake to a bare minimum! DEEP SLEEP IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SAVE BATTERY! You basically want it to go into that every time your screen goes off and to stay in it uninterrupted for as long as possible. And many users phones are NOT making it into deep sleep due to partial wakelocks and they don't even know it or how to fix it. Not getting deep sleep can unnecessarily kill your battery!
I use a few tools here: Better Battery Stats/GSAM Battery Monitor/Battery Monitor Widget from within System Tuner Pro (which is my also my main and highly recommended tuner app for CPU oc/uc and UV,etc.).
These apps really help to determine what, if any, apps are causing partial wakelocks ( displaying in wake number amounts and overall wake time) allowing you to determine what to do to fix the problem and let the phone gets as much battery saving deep sleep as possible.
6.I'm not big on auto app killers and actually recommend against them as Android ICS does this already very effectively but do keep in mind that the more active background memory that is used, the more battery the battery is drained. So I personally kill unnecessary apps myself from the background whenever possible to save a little battery here and there. Using the apps listed above in #5 can really help to detect a nasty background app or service that is quite possibly unknowingly using a ton of CPU and/or memory, thus draining more battery and also often just slowing down your phone!
7. For those who can use it Airplane Mode is a big saver! Try overnights if wanted as long as missing notifications, emails, calls, updates, etc is alright for you. I seldom use it but it does help.
8. I almost never use my Bluetooth and GPS but when I do that is the ONLY time they are on. They get turned off immediately and really be careful with the GPS in particular because you might be surprised how many things on your phone will use it in the background, sucking your battery!
9. Be careful with sound and vibration levels. Haptic feedback too. I don't do much here but its anotherctip nonetheless.
10. Lastly is treating and charging your battery right! I found an amazing site linked down below in a couple of articles that really explains these batteries and how they work in a very in depth technical level this is still not too hard to follow. Aside from the two links I posted check out the others on the left menu as there is a ton of useful and educational info!

Btw I've just received both my 3300mAh and 4400mAh capacity batteries. So I have much testing to do on those too and I plan on reporting back on them as well. Also with screenshots for data and proof...I can and will also post screenshots for all of the numbers and stats I've posted here today with my personal phone/battery accomplishments.
Hope this helps some of you out there because yes this phone can be known for terrible battery life but it CAN be tweaked to SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVE that life to high standards and keep up with the best of them!

On Stock battery - Kyan Rom/Ktoonez kernel (at this moment)
Seems about right. My phone is completely stock and if I really wanted to I could even use it for 2 work days. I usually charge it over night though. I used it for 2 days though while at work, and with 3 hours of screen on time I was down to 7% battery. Around 40 hours on.
I was stocked rooted using Sammy kernel. On demand BFQ. I'll try on demand noop and see if that helps. My screen was about 35% brightness.

Can I hijack a little here? My battery seems to be atrocious. It was okay stock after my first 3 full charges I was getting about 12 hours and 2.5 screen time.
Here is what I've done with my phone since:
Flashed to debloated stock Rom
disabled remaining unneeded apps (example ATT wifi app)
disabled Wifi
disabled bluetooth
disabled GPS
disabled GPS autorun states
disabled 4g
disabled autobrightness, set to 15%
disabled location reporting
disabled Push email with Exchange
disabled Motion
disabled auto google backup
disabled keytones and vibrate on all button presses
disabled touch key lights
disabled Svoice
disabled streaming on googleplay, only plays from memory card
disabled Google Now
fixed the cell standby bug (even though it may not impact battery figured wth)
Uninstalled FB
Set all Autosync accounts and email to sync only once per day
No widgets (only Google play music, Smemo note, flashlight, and folders)
Running save power mode for low power screen, no haptic, and auto adjust screen to blacks
Running mostly black wallpaper, No live wallpaper.
Running medium intensity vibration
I ran battery stats and got a lot of wakelocks from googlemaps and exchange so I disabled the push email and set it to once a day. Google maps I disabled latitude, and shut down the autostarts with gemini.
It's getting to the point where the phone is basically a dumbphone just so the battery can make it while it sits next to me at work. Today I have 48% after 8 hours and 50 minute screen time and 20 minutes of google play (only playing from on SD card not streaming).
Any ideas? It seems like I'm getting less than average.
All I did was also flash debloated rooted stock. Set to top out at 1.5ghz power save on. On demand BFQ schedule. Screen brightness as low as I can to still read. And got 32ish hours. I'm going to try OnDemand and noop like the other guy said and UV a lot more and see how close to 40 hours I can get

Can u link me on the bfq? Having troublefinding what that is.
Also, is that the built in power save that limits the processor or some other software?
I believe if you flash Sammy kernel it has bfq. I am on task's CM10 and kernel and battery life seems poor compared to CM9 or stock rooted

[XS] Appalling battery life

I'm currently running 4.1.2 stock, rooted. With Locked BL. The battery drain has been absolutely shocking. Help
Download from play store this app: Du Battery Saver&Switch Widget! I have this app since last week and it really works...
People in here are right. Greenify it's more than enough. But also Du Battery Saver can do the trick, what's great about it is that is lowering your CPU frequency when screenlock, so try them out.

Use screen settings as low as possible. Trust me, thats the main cause of fast battery drain.
Use Lux auto brighteness. Its a good app.
Next one , use titanium backup to freeze the app that you are not using. Its always a good to freeze app, so it wont run in the background and u can save RAM.
Use greenify. Thats the best app for hibernating the apps. That way both battery and RAM is saved.
And use DU battery Saver , thats also an awesome app. in which u can set the phone to change your profile on time basis, and lower frequency of cpu when screen is locked so battery is saved.
Hope u got some ways to prevent battery drain to a limit
Those apps are all great, but why have a HD Screen phone when you have to lower the screen brightness to a minimum, that sucks.

It's very simple, at du battery select saver at the bottom and create your own custom mode!

Keep the brightness around 35%. I find it perfect for indoors. Your screen on time should be atleast between 2:30 to 3 hrs on average.
Use darker wallpapers
And underclock to 1.2ghz or something if you dont use resource hungry apps. Use conservative governor and noop scheduler.
Trinity ROM
Screen brightness at 35%
Stamina mode on
Using greenify
Only 2G networks
Moderate Wi-Fi usage
Default CPU frequencies
Also, don't use battery savers like go battery saver and battery doctor, they only turn down brightness and data networks, alot of them don't have a great effect in battery life. Use apps that freeze/hibernate apps like greenify and snapdragomln battery guru.

so i did realise that you had your screen on alot of the time.... that is generaly 1 reason why , i can watch 8 hours straight of movies on my XS where as on a stock rom about 3 hours , so the XS battery realy depends

sometimes the battery will just need to be used normaly just so it can calibrate its self (some weird reason not using my XS for 2 days fixed my battery issues)
i suggest checking if there are any apps that run in the background, just remove them if you dont need them (could prevent your XS from sleeping and also a posible overheat)
I also suggest making sure that your brightness isnt too high, (obviess)
the more you use your XS the shorter the battery lasts day by day, it is nessicary to not use your xs too much as it will take a few days for the life to go back to normal ,(like i said i had a simular issue)
I can see a strange behavior of Mediaserver process. It consumes too much battery. Usually it points to the problem with scanning your media files.
You can use BetterBatteryStats to find out the cause of it.

An app to show idle % per hour battery drain?

Hi, I have a OnePlus 3 with LineageOS, I also used to have the ElementalX kernel on which I enabled the battery monitor and I could see the battery drain percentage/hour in real time, at first it was 1,5%/h idling which is already terrible (for ref i used my schoolmates nexus, which had 0,5%/h and also googled a bit) but then it got worse and worse until it got to 3%/h so I decided to clean flash the rom and leave the stock kernel on... And that has left me with awful OCD about my battery since I can't see the drain in real time anymore (Previously I used the EX Kernel Manager which works only with that kernel)
So I need to know 2 things, does anyone know why my battery drain could have been acting out? And more importantly, please recommend me some apps that can display the idle battery drain in real time...

Ex kernel mangaer works with all kernels. You could use accubattery as well, it does have a similar option too. Idle drain needs to be checked on long runs, for example if you use your phone for texting and turn your screen on/off many times, a battery monitor app could not be that accurate because when it scales the percentage used by screen off it could register the amount of power used by the screen when it was on ( but it wasn't register as screen on because the 1% dropped when the screen was off even if you used that 1% when the screen was on). I hope it's clear enough. English is not my native language and it's hard to explain it.
