[solved] Incorrect Free Space on SD Card - HTC One X

I seem to be losing space on my SD Card. I delete stuff but I don't see the space being freed up.
If I use WinDirStat it tells me that the SD card is using 18.8GB of space, but is only showing 1.4GB of free space. If i run a check on the card I get this:
{

}
I don't understand where the free space is going. Any help please? I seem to be missing about 5GB of space. I'm running ARHD 3.1.0.
Thanks

After reading about others with the same problem, I copied the data off the sdcard, reformatted, copied the data back and now all the correct free space is there.

This happened to mine too. I already did what you have done and formatted the sd partition and i gained 3gb from 5gb to 8gb which was great but woke this morning to have lost another 1gb overnight. I thought i had solved it but obviously not. Hope this gets sorted soon.

The problem is that after files deletion their space goes to the bad sectors - just run chkdsk to see this. Seems problem with internal SD driver or something like this

After Chkdsk is done and errors have been found, what now?

same issue, i lost 4gb in "bad sectors". That is a lot!
edit: formatted sd card en all bad sectors were gone. Had the full 25gb available

This may be a separate issue, as I didn't have any bad sectors and after reformatting then copying the data back I haven't had a reappearance of the problem. I've been flashing more ROMs, deleting files, copying new files and so far the space is being correctly reported

Is this a problem for people using custom roms ony?

I also encountered this problem, only format SD card can be resolved
Some people say that the cause of the problem is caused by the choice of installation location

no really. on russian forum this happend also with stock rom 1.29.405
And ive found that cluster size on my internal SD was 32Kb, but it should be 16kb for 32gb storage.
Formatting through windows with default cluster size will help. (now its 16kb)

[Q] System Data taking 2.5 GB on SD Card

Ok, so somehow I did something that caused my SD card to fill up. When I look at DiskUsage, it shows that the system data folder is taking up all of my space.
Has anyone else had this problem, and can you fix it?

I really need help...
I don't know what you did.... I compared my unit using the same tool and I don't even have a System Data section on my /sdcard
If you have TWRP loaded, you might be able to wipe your data etc... but I have no idea.
Perhaps someone else has an idea
Well, I dont have a system data folder, atleast in my SD card.
I am thinking maybe it is somehow attatched to the SD partition, but...
Anyway, is it normal to have 200,000 + files in your "sys" directory?
The tool you are using doesn't output very clear info and the graphics by themselves don't give you details on what it is really finding...
Below is what mine looks like. This appears to be the same setting you used, but as you can see, there is no System Data listed.
Are there tools that are more presise I can look for?
Ok, so I found a file inside LOST.DIR called 1048578. It is taking up 2.3 GB. Can I delete it safely?
yes you should be able to do that.
You most likely had a crash and the file was lost from where it was actually pointing.
An solution to your problem

its because of three things that regularly happen
1) Because of Browsing the internet System data gets increased.
Try clearing your browser cache and reboot(e.g chrome, mozilla, the one u use the most)
2) Because of opening gallery your /DCIM/.Thumbnails folder gets loaded whit lots of bytes. delete the /DCIM/.Thumbnails folder
3) Also because of transfering files from your pc to your phone one more folder gets loaded.. delete it its the /nomedia/
Plz Hit Thanks............. :good: :good:
The same thing also happened to me. Using the Android tool DiskUsage, after deleting many large media files via the PC, all of a sudden a System data of 22 GB was indicated. After I restarted the phone, the size was reduced to 2.3 GB.

Viewing internal (eMMC/USB) and external (SD) storage in Settings>Storage

Hi All
I have searched for answers to this in the forum and I can't find what I am looking for. I am sure some of you will have better search powers than me, congrats if you do.
I've rooted and flashed CM9 on my T989 and I have an SD card in the phone. I do not have much downloaded to my phone at all, as it is a fresh and clean install.
When I go to System>Storage I see the 'Internal Storage' at a paultry 1gb something and my SD card storage. But I do not see the 11gb eMMC/USB internal SD card.
Should I see three sets of storage, Internal, SD and eMMC/USB?

What cm9 version are you running? You should see two sections that at internal storage. One that gives you the 1.97gb (application stuff), another that gives you your "emmc" storage 11.whatever , and then obviously your sd card.
Similar to attached pics.

I can toggle between eMMC and external but not see both at the same time.
Also, I can't transfer the apps on the SD card to the eMMC which I'd like to do to put a different SD card in.

Odd, sounds like it could be a bad flash...did you flash over a previous rom or is it a clean flash?

Problem with space running out. And no large files present

i have not had any internal memory issues since my HTC Desire Z some years ago. And now with my Note 2, 16 GB i am suddenly only on 500 MB left. I have around 140 apps all in all, non of them games with large downloads. i have cleared out everything in goomanager, DCIM, now using the external SD card for photos and videos. Cleared out downloads, looked through every folder and i can't find any single files above 100 MB really. Even the Android/data folder only takes up 250 MB.
i have noticed something that puzzles me a bit. That the internal storage comes up as /storage/emulated/0/ and not /sdcard/
When navigating to /sdcard/ in a file explorer with root access. The same files i find in /storage/emulated/0/ is present.
From the root of my Note 2. i can navigate to the same internal memory directory in the following paths:
mnt/sdcard/
mnt/shell/emulated/
sdcard/
storage/emulated/o/
storage/emulated/legacy/
storage/sdcard/
Do i have several copies of the same internal memory or what ?
If no one has a good idea about why this non existing data can be found and dealt with, what would be the best way to completely wipe the device?

thanks.
i ended up formatting the internal SD card through CWM, and then flashing a ROM.
Now i have 8 GB free with the same apps installed. That's more like it.
i think that a MIUI ROM created a mirrored emulated storage space that ended up doubling the amount used of internal memory
Clean Data folder
Download ES Explorer
and go into the /data/media folder.
the troublesome files are there. For myself I had old remnants from another ROM and the entire rom zip file.
Don't forget the thanx button.

I knew there was a backup file somewhere after stupidly backing up my rom to the internal sd accidentally but couldnt find it as it is in clockwork folder on my external.
but yes, for some reason it was in media, which I didnt check because I dont keep anything on my internal personally.
anyway thanks, It got me 6 gig of space back.

[SOLVED] Is SD card usage wrong?

Hello,
I encrypted internal memory.
Following, I installed several apps and moved some to the SD card.
The SD card usage not increased and the internal memory not decreased. So, I suppose it was due to the fact that I had encrypted the internal memory.
So, I uncrypted it. But, the issues remains.
How to solve this, please?

Hello,
I doesn't help.
I did factory reset and formatted SD card.
The same issue remains.
Same here..
I found that the "moved to SD" apps were being moved to /mnt/asec which might be only a partition inside the ROM.
The external sd card is named as extSdCard and there is a "sdcard" that is actually a partition in the ROM.

Hello,
I did contact Samsung Support and used Smart Tutor.
"Move to SD" create the folders at SD card but doesn't move the files.
Even if you move the files manually it doesn't work, for example Amazon Kindle.
IT'S A BUG !!!
can I use sth like "directorybind", "foldermount"...
I'm using Link2SD Plus on my Xperia but I myself didn't like it
I use foldermount (pro version) to move several big folders to the external SD and it works like a charm on my T320.
I don't use the apptosd feature, I suggest installing link2sd its much better at moving the whole app to the external sdcard, and it just puts a link in the systems folders. Also I recommend buying the paid version of it as it will also move the data of the app as well

After read "The SDCard Bible for the Moto G 4G/LTE" (https://forums.motorola.com/posts/7e59cc7baf), I concluded I was wrong.
My UHS-I SanDisk Ultra® microSDHC™ 32 GB (SDSDQUA-032G) is working fine.
Feature "Move to SD card" is working fine, too.
