Are the 5 metals dots on the back of the HTC One X just aesthetic or do they serve a purpose like perhaps to connect to one of those charging pads?
Yes, they are used to connect to a dock or some kind

Yup, they are called POGO pins and do data/charging from a compatible dock like this:

Bought an inexpensive desktop dock on Amazon for my Galaxy Nexus. Received it today.
*The Good:*
It was $20
Comes with a USB transfer cable as well as a 1.5A wall charger.
Removable inner casing to allow docking with a case on (at least in the description)
Spare battery charger port in back
*The Bad:*
Cannot dock my phone with either case on it. Must be naked.
Spare battery port does not work with Verizon battery
No audio port for 3.5mm out
If you have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, it is useful only as a desktop charging/syncing dock as long as you're not using a case.
For $20 it's fine, but I'm a bit disappointed that it didn't work with a case and that the spare battery slot is useless to me.
Anyway, here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/RND-Power-Solutions-Battery-compatible/dp/B006O45K9C

No it doesn't.
to let people know, the battery slot will only charge the normal size GSM version battery, not extended one.
Thanks for posting this. I'm usually a no case guy so this sounds good. Unfortunately the plastic on this phone is too fragile and I've already damaged it, so I now have a case on.

While it doesn't, I'll be using some NFC stickers I picked up from tagstand.com to do this and a handful of other tasks via NFC Task Launcher and Tasker. Should be good fun.

It actually comes with two. One for "sync" (a standard usb cable) that is 4ft or so and another for just charging that's thinner and around 6ft. I've actually not used either and instead, just stuck with the cable that came with the device.

I'm not sure it would be easy but there appears to be ample room to do this.
Guys my 3 dots on the right side of the phone is silver, not gold.
(My phone is GSM. And phone made in
Fabrique au Vietnam par Samsung)
what this might mean?
regards.
So your phone is made in Vietnam. Maybe upload a pic of the pogo pins that you say are silver? It would probably have no effect whatsoever, just that they tweaked the design a bit/used different parts...

They are called pogo pins, and when they make contact with a compatible accessory, they charge on contact. So far, Samsung hasn't really taken advantage of the technology, with the exception of a desktop dock, which only really saves you the trouble of inserting and removing a regular charger cable.

I can't post an outside link as a new member, but if you search for "galaxy nexus pogo dock," you should be able to find it in a lot of places, including Samsung's website.
Hi is there a case or something similar to enable the HTC one X to be able to be charged on a powermat??(other than the the small cube that has a mii usb attached to it which goes into any phone)

There are several users who have made a mod to use the touchstone with hox both with cases or not

I haven't tried it, but theoretically you should be able to solder the connection to the pogo pins and fit it under the casing of the One X.
Not powermat, but Qi.

Are there any? Cant seem to find one anywhere yet.
Same question. There are no pogo pins like on the one x and no wireless charging options so any dock would have to be charge via the USB port on the bottom.
I use my phone as a bedside alarm clock so a dock is an important accessory for me
Si
Big question for me too. Especially with wireless charging omitted.
Hopefully there will be a dock soon.

I don't suppose anyone has managed to come across a dock yet?
Other than using the Car dock on a desk, I can't find much out there at all!
I found this one: http://www.kidigi.com/product_lv2.php?pid=1453. Haven't found out yest where to buy it though.
And this generic one: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/cover-mate-desktop-charging-dock-for-htc-smartphones-p37618.htm. Looks like instable though, no support in the back so it will hang on the usb port....

U need a specific dock for the M7 as the micro usb at the bottom is flipped from the usual setup. Using the second dock would mean having the phone facing away from you.

Dont think so. The first one is announced for the HTC One and has the same micro usb as the 2nd link. The 2nd link you can slide the usb connection left and right to center it for example. But the most important part (the back and front of the micro usb) is the same in both pictures

Sorry my bad I didn't read it and just had a brief look. But what I mean is not all generic docks will work as the HTC One (not sure about other models) has a inverted Micro USB port. Thus a generic dock which may work for the S3 for instance, will not work for the M7.
Is is possible to get a dock that outputs a line out?

The dock was announced on the 18th, and the HTC One hasn't been released officially so it will take a while for it to go on sale I'm guessing.
I noticed the guys at Gadgets4Geeks have the kidigi desktop dock and charger available for order.

Not sure when either ship though. Still waiting for a response...
It says on the product page that it ships on April 15th.

Anyone found a dock with audio line Support that's not overly expensive?

The Nexus 5 has a coil inside, so does the mount. They would have to line up when the phone is in the mount to pass the charge between the two.

If the coils don't match , I would plug the sticks at the bottom of the holder with something thicker that will raise the nexus up so it charges
