So i am thinking of upgrading my i9000 to a galaxy nexus. I have installed custom roms on my galaxy s 967474656 times.. But i purchased it unlocked, I just need to know the procedure to unlocking this.. Is it simply rooting the phone that does it? or what?
I'm going to get it off my dad, whos going on a telstra plan, I assume its going to be locked to telstra, but I want to use it with my optus sim,
Anyone help?
What do you mean by unlocked?
Bootloader unlock or carrier unlock?
Both of those can be answered by doing a XDA search. Bootloader unlock is relatively simple.
Carrier unlock: mainly all unlocked unless you're getting docomo version.
I mean carrier unlocked
why not call and ask if they're locked. I don't think they are.
I picked up one for $460 brand new in a sealed box off eBay and its completely unlocked which I use on Telstra

Hello!
I have an NTT Docomo branded Galaxy Nexus.
Wanted to use a roaming sim so I needed to unlock it.
Checked some sites and finally decided to use the service from this site:
http://samsungimeiunlock.com/
I payed around $32 for the code(depends on which carrier your handset is locked to).
I would have happily donated it to a team who can sim-unlock our phones but I did not have the time to wait since I badly needed to use my roaming sim.
I received the codes in around 8 hrs.
First time using the code worked without problems.
I am not in any way connected to the site I mentioned above.
I just want to help those who are doubting online sites that provide unlock codes.
I guarantee the one I listed above works, and again, I am not in any way connected to the site.
Hope this helps and clears some doubts.
Peace yah all and enjoy your GNs!
P.S. - I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and flashed stock Google ICS 4.0.2 (not Docomo image) prior to inputting the code. Not sure if it would matter though.
If you had unlocked your bootloader then flashed a custom ROM then their would be no need to buy an unlock code would their

unlocked bootloader is not the same as sim-unlocked/sim-free

You should Google 2 things and read.
1. "Unlock bootloader"
2. "Unlock sim"

I'm curious about one thing. Obviously I don't expect you to send me a copy of your unlock code, since I have a CDMA version and it won't do me any good. I'm just curious about the actual process of using it. Do you just punch in a bunch of numbers into the dialer, or what? Like what is the actual process to do this?
Turn off phone, insert foreign SIM, turn on phone, phone will ask for unlock code. 99% of GSM phones are like this.

as nxt mentioned, just insert a SIM that isn't from the network your handset is locked to.
it will ask for the unlock code after booting up.

sim-unlocking doesn't change any of your phone's capabilites. it just lets you use other sim cards, including your original one
hello, i wanna buy galaxy nexus so, can i buy locked phone(verizon) and unlock it cheaper or buy a unlocked phone? Coz price is 150$ diference
What good is an unlocked Verizon phone to anyone?

Unlocking a Verizon phone will get you nothing. The phone is only compatible with Verizon anyway. If you were to unlock it you still couldn't take it to another carrier.
Also, Verizon GNex is a CDMA device, it won't work on the GSM network. So AT&T and T-Mo are out.
If you need a phone that works on most of the networks, don't bother unlocking a Verizon GNex, get a GSM/internatonal GNex.
So im thinking of getting a Galaxy Nexus on craigslist but I am wondering whether there is simple way to unlock atm. Im located in Canada and will have to get the device to work with my carrier Rogers.
Thanks

I have never used Craigslist. It is for second-hand stuff, right? Can't you ask the seller if it is sim locked to any carrier and if so could he unlock it before selling it?
I am on contract with O2 but I called them as soon as I received the phone and they were able to send me the unlock code for no charge. I told them I was on assignment in Korea and needed to use a Korean sim.

Unless they got the phone from Japan or a few carriers in Europe, the phone should be SIM unlocked.
Actually a lot of them are carrier locked here in Canada (or as far as I can tell from the Craigslist postings). The reason I don't get a unlocked one is because locked ones are cheaper so if there is a simple way to unlock then I could save some money.
If the phone is sim locked to a carrier then you can easily get it unlocked either at a phone shop or online. They range from around 15-25GBP.
Unfortunately there is no free way of doing it.
Mark.
There is (although I didn't try it), but you'll lose your IMEI with the permanent solution.

Hello there,
I'm from México, and there's an online company that's selling the Galaxy Note 3 from T-mobile (the n900T) unlocked to use it with any Mexican carrier. I have a few concerns though. He claims that he needs to open the package to introduce a code and unlock the device, and that it's a permanent unlock.
1) Is this legal?
2) Will I have any trouble rooting and installing different roms (will the phone lock to T-mobile carrier)?
3) Aside from the T-mobile logo, is there any difference from the N9005?
Thanks!
I don't see why that would be illegal as long as it's unlocked and paid for. The N900T should work with any GSM carrier in the world after unlock/regionlock unlock.

hello everybody, Im planning to purchase the htc 10 from bell this week. after reading up a little bit, i found several sources that mention only certain varients will have the unlockable bootloader.. this would be a deal breaker for me if i am unable to mod. Does anybody here have this phone from bell that could answer definitively whether the bootloader of this phone is unlockable from this carrier? any help would be much appriciated.
Well, since nobody answered, I'll give the info I've found out since. The canadian (bell) variant is, as usual, the international version. I say this with 90% certainty that the bootloader is unlockable at htcdev.com. However, as of yet HTC has not released any RUUs for the canadian 10, so be careful flashing, especially if you decide to go S-off.
Cheers yall.
I believe all models are unlockable now via sunshine? except the lifestyle of course
I'm getting mine tomorrow and unlock same day and change cid so I can get updates.

I just wanted to confirm that everything that can be done with the 10 can be done with the one from bell. I even changed mis sid to us developer unlocked for latest updates.
