[Q] Aussie Gnex gapps problem (Play store, Gtalk) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Since getting my Stock 4.0.1 Telstra Gnex I have rooted then flashed the 4.0.4 Yakju, then flashed BAMF PAradigm 1.25 and flashed francos r134 nightly kernel.
All is well except my Googletalk won't login properly and the Play Store has just started going funny and saying :Error while processing purchase.
I dunno if I should re-install the gapps?
also my kernel widget tells me the cpu is at 57~C, isnt that high?
Please help a semi-competent newb

Hey mate do a clean wipe and install AOKP build 34, the newest gapps and Franco's latest milestone build. VERY good combination. You won't have any problems with that. Don't stress about CPU temp it is fine.

Really? AOKP? you 100% sure? I trawled this site for days and honestly thought BAMF was the best for us Aussies...

Done. Voila everything works great!
Had to **** around to reinstall the missing Gapps and delete Novalauncher ~shudder~
Any other tips or tricks?

AOKP isn't bad, they're all pretty much the same though I'm pretty sure much more people use AOKP or a derivative of it.

Kernal ??

Is it necessary to flash a Kernal after flashing a custom rom ?
I am thinking of flashing CM 9 or Liquid Rom. Which is the best kernal to flash with them.
-The correct spelling is kernel.
-It is not necessary to flash a new kernel with a rom. In general roms will package the stock kernel unless they note otherwise.
-I am personally a fan of leankernel because of the mission statement behind its development and the accessibility and speed of its update cycle.
Nope. Custom roms have kernels included, so you are not required to download a separate kernel. However, some kernels run better (ie, more fluid, less heat, reboots, etc) than others on the same device. It all depends on the silicon in your phone. If you plan to run cm9, I recommend sticking with the default kernel. If you're going with Liquid, use imoseyon's leankernel (the default) or franco kernels.
Edit: BTW, I highly recommend franco's kernel app, especially if you are new to the scene. It can download & install either franco or imoseyon kernels, making kernel flashing stupid easy. It also lets you overclock & undervolt, change governors and tweak color settings. And it is the easiest way to keep up with nightly/experimental builds. Not to mention it shows your support and encourages more development.

i say try them all, but for cm9 i recommend fugumod.

finally going to try Liquid Smooth 1.25 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555667)
along with Franco.Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367341)
...... One last question Which Franco Kernel to flash there are Milestone 2, Milestone 1, Nightly ??? Whats the difference between them ?
Also when installing extras for liquid smooth do i need to wipe everything again .. I am new to this flashing stuff
and does Liquid Smooth comes with a kernel if so which one ?
Latest milestone is the most stable. Nightlies are experimental. And no need to wipe.

Liquid + franco is a great choice. Liquid is an extremely polished rom. Very, very smooth with absolutely ZERO lag (it is called Liquid Smooth for a reason) and lots of customization & tweaking options. franco kernel pushes the smoothness to another level. Liquid & franco are both awesome devs who have been tinkering with android for a long time, and they both know their stuff.
Liquid comes with imoseyon's leankernel, which is a solid kernel (obviously, or Liquid wouldn't have included it in the rom). imoseyon is another well-known & respected dev that churns kernels at a dizzying rate. He must develop in his sleep. A lot of people prefer his leankernel, and you really can't go wrong with it. But like I said before, it really depends on your device. Your phone picks the kernel, not you. Milestones are the most stable versions. Nightlies are bleeding edge experimentals with the latest patches & tweaks that may or may not improve battery or performance. Since you are new to flashing, you might want to go with milestone 2 for a few days and see how it feels. On the other hand, you could jump in balls deep and go with the latest nightly/experimental
And you don't need to wipe anything before flashing the extras package.

doesn't matter,
infact if you flash yakju then you will get OTA as well. if you are in japan you can flash a japan radio on top of the rom.

Kernal?
I have been researching the many different kernels out there all day. I have been running GummyNex ROM's since I rooted my GNex. I really do like the options he has. I forget which version, but the battery life was amazing (which included the baked in kernel). I flashed to .0.9 and recently 4.0.4 1.0.1 and the battery life is like a V-12 Lamborghini. I just flashed a Franco Kernal and am hoping this fixes my battery drain issues.
Something has to give......

Use liquid rom with Franco milestone built ... gave me a 4+ hour screen time. Don't know why but the nightly version reduces battery life

I'm running Liquid 1.3 and am using Franco nightly #143 and, so far, my battery life is really great. I was at 89% after 2 hours. I also want to try Milestone 3, that just came out yesterday and see how it performs.

Good Kernel and Rom

Hello dear Community,
i am owning a GN and i Rooted it about 2 weeks ago.
So now my problem is i tryed some Roms and Kernels.
But i wasnt happy with theese.
To much bugs or to fast Battery drain. And instable.
So my question is which Kernel and Roms are good?
I prefer:
Good - High Battery perfomance
Stable.
Can have a good design.
And a lot Functionality.
My GN is GSM. With Maguro.
Im Actually using PARANOIDANDROID.
Sry for my english, thats scool english
Ant thanks a lot for all replies
PARANOIDANDROID is a good ROM but a little Alpha imho. I recommend the following in order of quality and support. I'll recommend Franco nightly kernel with either LiquidSmooth 1.35 or FoxHound 0.6. I'd recommend BAMF but if you go to their thread for support, they got some real douches in there.
Well thank u for ur reply.
I am not a pro but a newbie at flashing roms and kernels.
But i wanna try ur Variation.
Can u explain me how to Install them?
thanks a lot

Me too.
Liquid 1.35 and Franco kernel gives great battery life and pretty good options and stability
AOKP milestone 5 & Franco gives options and stability, though the battery life does not match liquid.
To flash these ROMS, go to their threads and download rom and latest gapps(pls check if reqd or included in rom) onto phone.
Reboot into recovery
Take a complete back up
Factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik
Flash new rom
Flash gapps if reqd
Reboot phone
Sign into google
Reboot phone
Wait a few mins
Reboot into recovery (if flashing kernel)
Wipe dalvik
Wipe cache
Flash custom kernel
Reboot phone
If using Franco then download the Franco paid app to get the best from the kernel.

Nightlies are the beta version of the kernel updated for testing on a regular basis. Always download the latest one. In that u have 512 gpu (overclocked) & 384 gpu. Try 512 first if it works for you without any issues (try with a game) then great, else flash the 384 version which is more stable.
If you want complete stability then go for milestone 3.

[Q] How do i install this ROM corecctly?

Hi,
Im going to install this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737849
([ROM][AOSP][GSM] Jellybean 4.1.1 JRO03C: Stock Rooted Busybox Deodexed (7/10/12)
But i have some minor question before i can do so:
Hi guys, im little bit confused. Here's my questions.
1. The latest version is V2 right?
2. Do i need to care about these things?
MD5 Checksum (check this if you think your download may be corrupt)
e1e4256a134df01769e0ef036d1d9c55 bigxie_maguro_JRN84D_v2-signed.zip
Root and Busybox Update (7/8/12) - The root environment is steadily updating for Jellybean. I will post the latest SU binary, app, and busybox here, as necessary.
3. I've heard there's new radio/baseband with jelly bean, should i install these aswell? I have 19250XXLA2, or is there a newer one?
4. What do you recomend for kernel with this ROM, i only want batterylife, should i run stock or another one?
5. Gapps is included in this ROM right?
thank you guys.
On the top of the page is a link to the 4.1.1 version. The V2 version linked a bit lower is 4.1.0. Both work fine but you might as well go for the latest one. Don't forget to do a full wipe though if you're coming from ICS.
Regarding the MD5's, I'd recommend checking them anyway, even if you're sure your download is good, better to be safe than sorry
Radio-wise you're not obliged to flash it. I'm running the 4.1.1 myself without upgrading the radio and I've had no issues so far. I've read that some people have experienced issues with WiFi on the new radio, but it seems to me those are pretty isolated cases anyway. If you do decide to go ahead with it, just make sure you have your current one around to revert back to should you run into problems.
Kernel wise I'm running Franco's latest nightly for JB (the stock GPU 384Mhz version, overclocked one eats battery like hell on my device) and it's running great. I've been using his kernels for a while now and am very happy with them. Can't compare to stock JB kernel since I didn't really use it, but on ICS I saw a noticable battery life improvement.
Gapps are included in the bigxie ROM yes, if you're using Titanium Backup for the rest of your apps, just exclude everything coming from Google, even the non Gapps ones like Maps, just get those back from the store.

One last question.
I've heard that you will have to have the Touch version of the CMW, or els you might get bootloop, is this true, should i get the touch version?
1. v2 is the latest
2. its worth checking if you want to be safe, it only takes a minute, but in most cases if your download goes uninterrupted you're okay
3. radio isn't a big deal, there was a new one, but i didn't notice any difference but it probably varies by location
4. franco kernel and leankernel are two that i would recommend, but i don't think leankernel is available on xda. i find leankernel interactivex governor to give me best battery life
5. yes Gapps is included
---------- Post added at 10:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:26 AM ----------
I dont have the touch version of CWM and it installed fine. There's another JB rom I would recommend flashing too if you want a few additional features,
[ROM][JB-JRN84D][7/08/12] ThunderStick Soft and Chewy [GSM] (in the android development section). I like having the quick toggles in the drop down. I flashed it yesterday and so far its been good

Well I do have CWM touch installed, but I doubt having the Touch or normal version would have an impact. Behind the scene they both do the same job, it's just how you give input to it that's different. I wouldn't worry about that too much, just make sure you're on a recent version and you should be fine. Touch CWM does work pretty well though and since you don't need to fiddle with the hardware buttons it can be 'easier' to work with
Thanks alot for the quick answers guys.
Regarding my question Nr 2, i don't even know what MD5's is and what it does, or how i check this.
Can you please explain like i was dumb, and how i check if i have the right version and all that stuff.
thanks again guys.

MD5 is a way to verify the integrity of the file you downloaded. In Linux, just go to the shell and type md5sum filename to get the hash (the string of numbers & letters) for that file. On Windows, check out WinMD5 to obtain the same result.
Once you got the hash for your downloaded file, compare it with the one posted on the forum. If they match you can safely flash the file. If they don't then you'll have to redownload the file. Do NOT attempt to flash a file where the MD5 doesn't match.
Good luck

You're right, although you could argue that the speed set by default is actually underclocked, as other devices with the same GPU usually run it around 380Mhz. Same goes for the CPU by the way, which is (if I'm not mistaken) set to 1.2Ghz while 'optimal' speed should be 1.5Ghz. Of course we could discuss for hours on these matters I bet

Can I get away with this?

AOKP JB Build 1

Hello!
Yesterday I flashed this ROM (coming from CM10 Nightly) and I have a couple of questions:
1- Is there any way to attach shortcuts to the lockscreen, as I could do with my previous ROM? Will it bring us the option in future versions of AOKP?
2- How can I flash a new kernel? I've tried Franco r196 512GPU (which gets stuck on Google screen) and Franco r201 384GPU (which gets stuck on boot animation). I just don't know how to do it.
Please help, thank you!
1. Currently not, and .'m pretty sure it will be available.
2. Wipe cache, dalvik cache, install franco.Kernel Milestone 5 .zip in recovery
Adamthecashew and stevespear (AOKP developers) have been working on Lockscreen Targets.
Adam actually released a working test build to a few users...but is working on getting all of the kinks worked out.
http://gerrit.sudoservers.com/#/q/status:merged,n,z
Keep checking here for a lockscreen targets reference...I'd assume it'll be in fairly quickly.
You can always flash the next nightly once it's merged, too. No need to wait for a "build."
Thank a lot, Buzzcomp. Franco M5 is now installed!
How should I flash a merged one as you say, Jubakuba? I'm into flashing but I don't know a lot about it...

By flashing a nightly build. Follow this thread closely
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402341
Good luck
Yeah, just flash the next nightly over your current one. They are typically released every 2-3 days for AOKP. Just wipe cache and dalvik, flash new aokp build and gapps.
Also keep in mind that every flash will overwrite your kernel again, so you will need to flash that again afterwards.
