Oh well I thought CM had an amazing camera. The photos come amazing and are super crisp.

Yeah, really, it's way better than the Sense camera in low light as well; I have no idea what you're talking about, and in the wrong section at that.
Maybe you should try wiping your camera lens ?
EDIT: Or if that fails, you could always get a different camera app from the market. I mostly use Vignette, since it lets you take a pic just by touching the screen, and it has a ton of awesome effects too. I've heard Camera 360 takes good pics as well, but I find it lacks good effects (but you're not really looking for a photo-editing app anyways).
I totally agree with the OP. The camera isn't great for me. The pic seems to be taken too long after the flash has 'flashed'.
A camera app will not help. Its the drivers for the hardware or something else low level that causes it.

lol...NOPE MY CAMERA LENS IS CRYSTAL CLEAR I MEAN THE CM7 CAMERA IS DARK NT BRIGHT AND CLEAR LIKE STOCK SENSE CAMERA......CM7 CAMERA IS DARK AND SOME TIMES IT LACKS TOOO AND THE WRST PROBLM IS THERS NO TOUCH FOCUS IN IT:\ ........
Again I say, Vignette's camera lets you choose exposure levels (higher=brighter), as well as having a touch-to-refocus option , so try that out.

I have a prom coming up soon but I want to take pictures with good quality. Unfortunately the stock camera this MIUI ROM came with sucks. Can someone upload a Camera.apk file to help? If you can get the best one I will be so happy, or if you know how to improve the one OsiMood MIUI 2.5.13. Please help me at the best if your ability.
Can anyone help me!?
I don't have the stock camera.apk I can give you. But there are a few 3rd party camera apps on the Market that others claim are better than stock. Vignette is pretty good (but a paid app), and FxCamera and Camera360 are supposed to be pretty good too (both free).

I believe you are limited to the pixel density of the camera itself, which isn't whole dependable on the software..
Sorry for not throwing you an .APK that would be useful. Just wanted to let you know that your thread is being read.

You're not going to get decent pictures indoors with the DZ (or just about any phone, for that matter) -- especially in a dimly-lit dance floor. You'd do better to buy or borrow a digital camera with a good flash.

Some claim that various camera apps will handle auto white balance, auto focus, auto ISO, etc. differently, possibly resulting in better photo quality. Although I've used the HTC camera app and stock AOSP, and played around with Vignette a bit, and haven't noticed a big difference.
I understand I cant increase my camera pixels due to hardware, but I had older ROMs with better picture quality l'm just wondring if someone has a good Camera.apk on there ROM they can give to at lease give me better picture. This MIUI ROM made by OsiMood is not good at all, and I know it can be better. So if anyone else can take there Camera.apk and upload it that will be very helpful.
Flash a new ROM!
Need good pictures for Prom - Prom = dark - Phone doesn't like dark - Can't take pictures with phone - Need DSLR with flash - Hire DSLR with flash - DSLR with good flash likes dark - Take pictures - I have good pictures from Prom
So im guessing no Camera.apk files are avalible!?
- download some different roms and extract camera.apk from the zip,
- make a backup of your existing camera.apk
- start moving camera.apk from roms you've downloaded and find the one that you like most.

Did you check out the Market apps I suggested? Its not like the AOSP stock camera app is all that great anyway. Probably be easy to find equal or better 3rd party app, if its a hassle to get the camera apk.
Your going to prom! Drink more beer and they will all look better in the dark! Lol I couldn't resist that one. But you could also buy a cheap digital camera at wally world for around $20 that will preform better in the dark then your g2.

Is it just me or does it seem like the camera was better when the phone was unrooted and without a ROM? Last night I rooted my phone and flashed the CM10 ROM...and I feel that the pictures come out a little blurry. The camera app is completely different in itself.
Is there any way to install the original camera app? The CM10 ROM upgraded me from android 4.1.1 to 4.1.2.
Respectfully,
Daniel Norkin

The stock camera app relies on the Touchwiz framework which CM10 does not use, so no you cannot install the original camera app.

Thanks. Is it just in my mind that the stock camera is better? Are there any good camera apps around that I could use?
There's a chance that the pictures with the stock camera are better, because the camera software has been optimized for the phone. However, someone posted sample pictures in the CM10 thread comparing the stock camera quality to CM10's camera quality, and the differences were negligible. The person posting them said he couldn't tell the difference if he didn't know there was one, and I personally couldn't see much difference either. I'm on my phone, so searching for it would be a *****, so if you're on a computer, I'd recommend giving the CM10 thread a search. If I can find the post before you, I'll edit this with a link.
You could always try it yourself, too. Find a room with consistent lighting (probably away from windows), and take some pics with Touchwiz. Then, take the same pics with CM10 (I guess, try to make a stand/marking of some sort so it's easier to put the camera at/near the same exact spot). Upload them to a computer or something (just because a larger screen will show the differences better; it's not entirely necessary), and compare.

Thanks. That is all great information. I actually just flashed Jelly Bomb 9.0. Nice ROM but now I'm getting a whole new error haha. I'll start another thread.
Hi everyone . since the release of Android 4.2.1 . struggle to zoom the camera , today when i played around with the device i found it .
The technique behind the zoom :
Place two finger at the screen and move one finger over the screen to zoom the camera .
I tried this over AOKP ROM. Hope few would have struggle to zoom it like me . if you know it already well and good . to the unknown guys enjoy it
Hit Thanks and Enjoy
I dont know why google doesn't do a "tutorial" type thing for apps they completely redesign. i have see quite a few people asking how to zoom on the new camera. if google did a quick little video or something when opening the app for the first time, it would alleviate a lot of headaches.
just my opinion though
Hmm but it is quite an intuitive feature that's been implemented all over the user interface. It's a simple pinch-to-zoom gesture!
Simple though
Yup its simple but hidden . Got so many days to find it , thought of sharing , so that other can also gain from it

Using digital zoom is a terrible idea anyway. Just take the picture at full resolution and crop it later.
Does anyone have the a pk of the first Jelly Bean camera? And does anyone know if it would work instead of the naive JB4.2 app?

I don't know if anyone has asked this yet, sorry if they have.
I'm thinking about putting cm10 on my s3 but one of the features I really like on stock is the camera. I love a lot of the features, but here are the ones i'm mostly looking for:
burst
face detection
panorama (not vital but would be nice)
filters (before taking the photo)
low light
Does anyone know of an app with the same or similar features? Or if there's anyway to get load the stock camera app onto CM10?
Thanks for any help.

I can confirm that any AOSP-AOKP Rom, like CM10.1 has those features embed in the stock camera app, and actually more. I love the camera on vanilla JB. Try it, but make a nandroid before, in case you don't like it.
Does the AOKP app allow you to lock focus to infinity, or (like the stock AT&T-version app), does it only give you a choice between 'autofocus' and 'macro'?

Hello, I've been trying aosp roms for a little while now (I hate touch wiz so much =.= but the camera keeps me here). Anyways, I'm having an issue with all the aosp roms i've tried. My camera can't change the exposure levels, even manually. So I can't take any pictures of slightly dark places =( without using the ugly flash lol.
Places where it's visible with human eyes and touch wiz camera is 100% pitch black on AOSP camera.
Is this a common problem? If so... do you guys just flash everything

+1 to this. I've noticed the same thing thought I was going crazy. I've just been flashing everything. I did notice that tapping the screen to auto focus before snapping the pic works a little bit to brighten the pic up
