If you are on gingerbread, this should work just fine.
Your back button will = search.
Search will = Back.

Glad i could help!

Any chance you have a flashable zip to remap longpress home to shortpress search? Essentially I want to get running apps to come up from tapping search key.

[q] aokp/cm9 fpse (circle button)

i just wanted to know has anybody got fpse successfully working on AOKP/CM9 roms? i'm talking about the circle button always bringing up the fpse menu. even when i remap the freaking button it still brings up the menu. is this a known issue with these roms or something i need to perform a little more deep than just remapping via fpse? please help as i need that circle button to function to play fpse games.
thanks in advance.
It's the ROM.
Kinda easy to a work out when it keeps happening. If it worked on one ROM but not another them I'm sure you could put two and two together instead of being snappy like in the AOKP thread earlier

This happens with roms that don't use Sony framework. I usually change the button to BUTTON_B instead of back alt.
The buttons are located in system/usr/keypadlayout/keypad-zeus.kl

Great, now my home button doesn't work. I made a backup, pasted that backup back and the home button acts as a DPAD and the menu key on the gamepad is a music play/pause?
How do I fix this?

Remap search button to power button

Requirements:
Rooted Xperia ION
Root Explorer (or any similar app)
NOTE:
Always make backup in case you mess up the file.
And I'm not responsible on whatever happens to your device.
Instruction:
Open Root Explorer
Go to /system/usr/keylayout
Set the folder as "Mounted as r/w"
Look for clearpad.kl
Open with any text editor
Look for "key 217 SEARCH VIRTUAL" (without the quote)
And change it to "key 217 POWER VIRTUAL" (without the quote)
Save and exit
Reboot your phone
And your search button is now like the power button
I've only tested this on GB 2.3.7-6.0.F.0.111 I'm not sure if this will work with other version.
Also with this modification you can lock your device but to unlock it you still have to use the power button.
Hitting the thanks button and leaving a reply is much appreciated =D
Thanks dude!
It works perfectly on ICS.

So this means that its only active when screen is unlocked. And when locked no battery drain from capacitive button always being monitored.

Found a mod to add galaxy nexus like navigation keys to rooted stock rom

Sorry if this has already been posted or in wrong section, and I take no credit for it but I found it to be pretty cool. To add soft keys to rooted stock touchwiz rom all you have to do is add this line to the build prop and reboot.
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Or you could just download "Soft keys" from the Play store!!!!!

You can do whatever you want.... I just thought it was interesting that it wasn't completely disabled and was easily added...If you don't like it or have something else you use, that's great.

Download it, get the apk and zip it in the ROM, or you can use TB to integrate it into ROM.

Why would I do that? I just edited the build prop and it's there...... I understand there are other ways to get soft keys. But I wanted them built in like the galaxy nexus so when I found this mod I thought I'd share......

Agree with you. I am using the same method on my HD2 CM9 for 8 months now.
My SGS3 will arrive today and I am glad that this method will apply to rooted stock rom. Was wondering if this method CM rom only or also stock rom.
Thank you for your information.
IMO this method is way better than some softkey apps because it doesn't use ram and is native like.

I would love to disable my hard keys. I am new at this stuff, so forgive my ignorance.
I have a t-mobile unlocked 32gb white rooted with AOKP jellybean- 4th release
And I cannot find any other mods to the physical buttons, like making the home button a camera button. Not as important, but would love to know if you can tell me.
Thanks!

[Q] Home button wake

Hey guys. Is there any fix or mod for making the home button on your s3 wake the device without closing the app that was open before the screen turned off. I am really used to turning on my screen from the home button (used to work on ICS) and now (JB) everytime the screen turns off and i try to wake it with the home button, I go back to the homescreen.
Please help !! thanks
UPDATE:
So the 2 solutions that worked for me either to have s-voice enabled or #&[email protected] s-voice and install jkay framework which has a built in fix

Works great! so nice! Thanks a lot!
I tried editing the Generic keyboard layout with ES note editor.
Added WAKE on key 172.
Seems to work but after a restart my menu and back keys don't work.
I just added WAKE didn't touch anything else.
Seems I'll need the Original file.
EDIT:
Fixed permissions and works great.
Thanks.

i did something little different. even after adding wake at key 172 and fixing permissions it takes me to the home screen rather than waking up the device only. i added this :
key 172 HOME WAKE_DROPPED
after doing this, re started my phone. works like a charm!
