I can't get an update of any kind. I'm seeing everyone w/ firmware 1.26 - 1.28 and it seems like I'm ages behind everyone.
1) Is anyone in the US with an International HOX getting any updates w/o
having to install something?
I remember reading that someone today in the US was getting the update but they had to tweak the software before their phone grabbed the patch.
Do unlocked phones in the US usually lag behind in terms of updates? I'm new to this sort of thing.
Muchos Gracias!
My update came a couple of days ago. No noticeable changes, but I'm not a very demanding user at this point.

I got it from HTC and not from retail. I'm pretty sure it was in the first batch or something. No flaws though so it's not the end of the world.
Here is to hoping it will grab an update of some kind eventually
I believe this should be the 1.26 update for your phone. I wouldn't jump the gun on doing an update to 1.28 becuase it will change your hboot and possibly mess up your ability to gain s-off at some point.

I emailed orange the other day asking why they hadn't released an ota update here's there answer.
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Desire phone.
I am sorry to learn that you are unaware of our process regarding updates for Orange phones. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
I would like to advise that Orange customers are not able to obtain updates direct from HTC themselves, this is due to the Orange branding that you have on your phone that allows you to use this on our network.
Please find below a link to our website where you are able to check in the future if an update via Orange has been released.
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sa...96364420640&product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1
I have also supplied below the required steps that you will need to take in order to organise an update to your phone. Be advised to follow the on-screen instructions as it will give you necessary and required information regarding your phone.
"your phone's features" > "download software updates" > "how do I download the latest software update" > "HTC Desire update"
When a new update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to Orange so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this update they have released will co-exist with the Orange branding that you are required to use on your phone.
It is possible that the new update that is released may not co-exist with the Orange branding and thus we will not be able to release the update for the HTC Desire, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could effectively be detrimental to your handset and Orange will not process for this reason.
If the update version can not co-exist with the Orange branding then we will wait for HTC to release a new update to which we will restart the testing process accordingly.
Be aware that it is not possible to advise of any estimated timescale for the testing of this update by Orange, furthermore, we can not guarantee that an update will be released at all regarding the HTC Desire as the updates that could be released may never work alongside the Orange branding on the phone.
Because some of this information is speculative and based on situations regarding the testing of updates that may or may not ever be released by HTC and the time it takes to complete the testing of the new updates, please accept my sincere apologies that we can not be more specific regarding your query.
Please be advised that the answers to many common queries can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section in the Help and Support option on the Home page of our website.
www.orange.co.uk
I trust this information clarifies your query.
Kind regards
Emma

What is the purpose of this thread? I'm pretty sure this is common knowledge. Same goes for HTC, they won't release the update to 2.2 until they can get Sense to work with it as well as it does on 2.1.
I dont see ORange or any other network providers with branded software getting the 2.2 before or at the same time as those running stock.
Seems pointless starting a new post for this which has been discussed many times before.
I'm not talking about 2.2 I'm talking about the ota update every one has already received 1.21.405 I think it is. Its still not happened on orange.

2.2, 1.21, 1.01, 1.53, it's all the same. This is common knowledge. I still don't get the point of this thread.
I only posted it for people who are on orange and, like myself keep asking for the update. I haven't seen an answer from orange anywhere on here so I thought I'd. Email them myself and post the answer here. Just because you knows how it works doesn't meen everyone else does. I'm sure orange customers would like an answer.
What's your problem.
Sorry! Double posted for some reason.
I don't have a problem, I'm just not so sure others didn't know that's how it works.

Orange and updates
Well, I think it's a valid thread and I do know the 'system'. I agree with the OP that a specific answer from Orange has not been posted. He could have added it to one of the [many] other threads but how many of us - who genuinely want to know the situation - would ever see it? This way we get to read the 'official' line. So, what's your problem?
On a more relevant note, I don't read this as being a hopeful sign that we Orange users will ever see the .21 update. And considering it seems to fix some of the annoying bugs with the Desire that is a pain. I don't want to root my device as it would put the warranty in question and I have already had to have it replaced once. So I'm stuck with a 'flawed' device that the supplier doesn't want to fix. Maybe I'll go for an iPhone?
And another thing. The link the Orange Rep gave in her email takes you to a page that doesn't even have the Desire listed on it!
It's definitely a valid thread, that's a very interesting reply from Orange right there.
The emphasis on Branding is shocking. What a load of ****.
I think Orange users will be getting Froyo sometime next year.
Basically what orange is saying they won't release out that will make your phone run properly orange crap on top if software always screws the phone up or makes it run slower
I always steer clear of orange branded phones they are the worst company out there for network crap

At this rate i'm going to end up rooting my phone. No more slow updates. No more Orange crapware.
And this is why I debranded my phone to use froyo. And will be useing HTC's hopefully desire froyo rom once its released

You dont actually need to Root, just do a debrand.. its a little easier and a lot more failsafe. You'll need to get your phone unlocked tho to run the latest firmware which is definitely worth it.

does debranding it void it's warranty? will i lose my data?
Its a moot point, certainly you will lost your data as you'll be flashing a fresh OS.
As for the warranty, I guess officially yes it does. HOWEVER.
If you were to send the phone off for a hardware problem then it is my opinion that it would be still covered under Orange & HTC's seperate warrantys.
If its a software problem, then a simple re-flash will fix it.
That is my philosophy anyway.
I sent 4 debranded c905's back to orange with no problems last year and more recently had my c905's earpiece mended by Sony in about a week which had been debranded too.
I didn't hesitate to debrand my Desire, did it about 3 hours after unboxing it before I started to set up my homescreens.
So its up to you, you know the risks but if there's a fault at the worst Orange will send it back to you unmended, but then you can send it to HTC. But put yourselves in the mind of the engineers They'll fix it if they can imo.
its teh reason why I got rid of my Touch HD phone, as Orange would not update it ... If you go to the HTC sight they have Orange UK updates , but none for Froyo
We're all trying to be really patient with the status of our phone S-Off, and I was thinking about the update that may (or may not) be coming to our phone. I am personally not going to update when it comes out, just to be on the safe side. alpharev is obviously doing good work for us behind the scenes, and I don't want to screw up my opportunity to get S-Off and root when they release; on the off chance that an update might prevent that from happening.
Obviously, this is just my paranoia kicking in, but I've seen some people on HTC FB that are claiming that they updated, and now can't root. Thoughts?
lol, ease off the crack rock budy, it will be here any day. I havent heard any news of an update comeing the next few days anyways, so you wont have a choice most likely.
The unlock is rumored to be released "soon" (within a week was mentioned, but probably a bit optimistic), while the next update is rumored to be August (this is only a couple months away, btw). Keep in mind these are rumors.
AlphaRev will likely want to break the update to maintain device compatibility so more than likely they will keep up.

Not sure how I'm on the pipe? I'm just saying that I'm not going to install the update right away if I have a choice. Thanks though.
I was wondering about the GPS fix that HTC is working on for the Dinc2. What if we are rooted and that is pushed out? What happens then?

Someone will dump the updated rom, and make it available for rooted users. The only way this update can mess something up is if HTC decides to fix the exploit that currently allows the phone to be rooted... but from what they have stated publicly, they are moving away from that direction and mind set (thank god).
Eventually a DEV will incorporate all the fixes that the OTA update has into their ROM/stock ROM, whatever. and I think it's great we have a recovery ready for when alpha drops the S-OFF. it's better than getting S-OFF and having no way to flash anything..

Just quoting you again, and bumping the thread, in case you missed this:

Once rooted, a RUU can be torn apart and made into a root friendly ROM. We can still get all of the benefits of updates even if they do patch exploits.
Hello everyone I'm new to the samsung forum... I switched from evo 3d.
I noticed there was an over the air update available and before I accept anything I want to make sure that would not stop me from rooting my phone. Our gaining full root access.
not to compare, but with evo 3d if you took the 1st over the air update it would change your Hboot version and made it impossible to gain full root access.
Is this the case with the samsung galaxy?
My baseband version is:
S710.10 S.EG30
Thanks in advance.

Go ahead and accept it, you can still root
Here's how- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Naw, you can root after accepting OTA. Or you can just update from the ROMs around here, which come rooted and are available in their stock versions.
Ok thanks...I know with the evo, ota's prior to rooting and after were a no no. but it looks like samsung is different.

I don't think they were saying OTA's in general were a good idea. They were saying this particular OTA has been verified OK. The future ones could do things you wouldn't like, so check back when those come out.
Always be suspicious of OTA's, but, I would be extremely surprised if Samsung decided to lock our phones up as HTC decided to. That's one of the main reasons why I returned my E3D (after being a loyal HTC buyer who was extra thrilled with his Evo4G experience).
I think Samsung is fine making their razor thin margins and letting us have our way with the hardware. We're also the same people who will toss this phone and buy a new one as soon as something better comes along so they won't be losing that 'upgrade for software update' money on us...as for the carriers? I'm not sure why they'd give a ****. Data is data. Aside from locking down chronic tetherers...but I think anyone who mods to tether probably wouldn't have paid for the service anyway and I we're such a small fraction of their customer base that even though a few bad apples go hog wild on all-you-can-eat data we're still statistically a insignificant group so far as bandwidth consumption is concerned.
But, yeah, just get your updates from here. There is no reason to take an OTA.
I thought I would start a new thread for this since there is a lot of people looking for this update and information pertaining to it. I live in the US and purchased this HTC X One 720e from Ebay and didn't realize there was so many different international versions.
Did I screw myself in getting the 707 version? Is this considered the Asian version of the phone? My S/N starts with SH23XW.
I have the same serial number. No update and I don't really need it.
Be patient. It will come later.

Same here, also purchased without knowing the difference. This one from expansys though, also 1.26.707.2.
No real issues with it so far, my hunch is it'll take the release of s-off to allow flashing the UK version (which i'd prefer personally).
Running an unlocked build is tempting, I've almost started the process a few times. I've stopped mostly because:
1) the unlock wipes the unit, and I'm finally all set up.
2) the flashing process is not without risk
3) the unofficial roms don't support the OTA upgrades (obviously)
4) the unit works as it is.
I just came from the motorola razr, which has an extremely slow patch cycle - I see patches here from a week or two ago (official ones) - I'm confident the .707. variety will have a release reasonably soon.
I asked three UK customer services when the 1.28 update was due to get sent out they said never as they are working on the next update. No clue as to when though and what it addresses. Still stuck on 1.26. Wishing I was unbranded.
I hope they will be able to correct flickering by FW or at least say they will to give hope to potential buyers
same here... Three / Sweden
I really believe it should be possible to patch out the flickering with software updates, make the backlight less sensitive or something, even if some users don't experience it at all. Maybe it's got to do with the screen running in 58 hz and not 60
There's always going to be another update on the way...
same here, not updated yet :/ will put custom rom I think
