[Q] Can music be dimmed and not interrupted during notifcation? - HTC One X

I notice that when i'm playing music and a notification comes in.... my music abruptly stops and has some static sound while the notification sound plays and then my music resumes again..... to be honest... it's pretty pathetic.... especially the static that's associated....
Can any developer actually come up with a dimming effect or a concurrent audio playing?
I remember that audio couldn't be played in parallel in the early 90s... but surely someone must have found a way to fix this by now? anyone?

They consider it as a feature. Android in general handels playing audio simultaneously pretty well. You can for example play music through the music.app and play audio through a piano app.

This annoys me as well. Used to be perfect on my Desire with CM7

it's madness! but can't this be overrided by a mod/software?

Would love a solution to this.

This depends totally on the player, at least that's how I always experienced it.
At any rate, I'm using IceCold AOKP combined with Google Play Music - (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.music&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nb29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC5tdXNpYyJd) , and notifications only dim music, as you would expected.

crackling when screen off...

yesterday sound was awesome screen on or off. i did the update this morning just for hah's. now my music crackles occasionally after screen goes off. anyway to uninstall update so i can verify?
i think i may have fixed my problem. google music was fine. in poweramp i unticked "high priority" in settings and the crackling seems to have disappeared. weird.
I had tried changing every setting and couldn't get it back to normal until I wiped the app data which solved the problem.
if anybody having problems with the crackling i mentioned above with poweramp go into settings in advanced and audio engine and tweak your audio buffer to huge or large. auto i guess doesn't allow a big enough buffer and creates the problems with sound. google music plays fine.
my regular sound notifications crackle when the screen is off...not even playing music.
I haven't seen this issue at all.
There are a few threads about this with more info. Definitely 48KHz sample rate mp3 don't work well when in low power mode (screen off), only 44.1KHz. Seems some people have found various ways of stopping it. One is turning on the eq in music, another the buffer size in power amp.
Google needs to root out the problem. I was hoping 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 would have a fix for everyone. I personally have not seen it happen outside of someone sending me a 48KHz sample rate mp3.

I have an issue where offline Google Music flac files will suffer from this distortion when the screen is off. It happens to most of my flac files, and to none of my mp3 files.

I experienced this problem even when playing Youtube vids... I am just testing it now.
Video and sound would crack and pop for brief periods seemingly at random when playing songs in various players - I thought at first that I had a bad wire in the headphones, but it happened without headphones as well.
I never had this problem before and I installed 4.1.1 update a few days ago.
I just uninstalled a media app (don't remember the name now haha - but it's similar to imedia share) and did a cold reboot (removed battery) and I have now been testing for 15 minutes, and so far no problems with MP3 players or Youtube.
Honestly - I think it may have been an app running in the background - so try uninstalling media apps and do a cold reboot.
I still LOVE this phone!

Audio stutter/spots with beats enabled

Hi folks,
I've noticed today when listening to music on spotify or Google music that every 20 or so there's a little stutter with my music, like a small gap of silence when the beats audio is enabled. Very minimal, like 0.5 of a second silence. Disabled everything is fine. I've tried different headphones as well as a speaker dock and it's the same.
Anyone else encountered this?

I got the same thing
Only happens when beats is enabled, only the music app is running and the screen is off.
When you disable beats, poof problem goes away!
My guess is that the fifth companion core doesnt handle the beats software well. The beats equalizer probably isnt written all too well for it and causes it to stutter.
My solution so far is to disable beats (as stupid as that is for a beats enabled device) and wait for a software update in the future.
Also worth mentioning, it seems to happen alot more with apps not optimized for ICS like spotify (which is buggy as it is).

I am having the same issue. It's extremely annoying. I would like to use Beats because it's a feature of the phone but I can't put up with the annoying stutters.
Or I can't hear it, or I don't have this issue...
Seems some issue there mentioned and known already.....

yup.. i have the same thing too!
Also my audio stutters when taking hdr photos as well I noticed now. 5 cores and it can't multi task!

3G is the cause
I also having this issue, and it only occurs when i have beats audio enabled, playing internet radio through 3G in sleep mode. When i try it with wifi (beats audio enabled, sleepmode)instead of 3G than there is no stutter/skipping.
3G internet radio with beats disabled is also stutter free.
Edit: It seems that internet radio puts more stress on the cores with wifi enabled so that it won't switch to such low clocks that the audio is stuttering
I've noticed one "pop" about twenty seconds after I turn the screen off, when Beats is on and playing music using the stock app. Best guess is that it's the transfer from main cores to the companion that causes it. It only happens the one time per screen off.
I get that problem too but listen without beats now which cures it. No loss as well because initially beats on sounded good. More bass, more treble.
But after a bit, it sounded harsh and unnatural. I can get the same effect with beats off by just upping the volume without it getting annoying after a few mins.
So I listen to Spotify with beats off...
Same issue for me too, through both wired headphones and bluetooth and with both the stock music player and GoneMAD music player. Sound was dropping constantly.
Turning off beats and I've had very few glitches.
The fix is to. While you listen to Spotify, settings, sound, sound improvment, change headphone type to Beats PRO. Then there is no stuttering. :-D

Indeed, it works !
for me, it only stutters with the screen off, beats enabled, and if the track playing is in the FLAC format. Must be something to do with the extra processing power needed for that + the beats audio - something that the companion core doesnt handle very well.

hmm could be indeed, since i have only played FLAC or internetradio while experiencing the issues (have not tried MP3 since i have my One X).
But with the beats audio set on Beats Pro headset(like mentioned above) does resolve the stuttering, even with FLAC files
my audio stutters occasionally when playing through the HTC Music app with or without Beats enabled. Very frustrating.
Hmm seems like a solution:

hopefully in 1.1.4 (tomorrow)
btw u can try adding this line in build.prop & reboot.
lpa.decode=false
It seems that the stutter is fixed in ROMeOS 1.1.4
see changelog here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580981
All,
Just a quick FYI - had the stutter and skip issues myself - fixed them all by downloading 3rd party apps from the store - so far no issues, using mobo player for video and n7player for music...both free (but I think n7player is in beta and plans to license it) and both do better than the HTC default apps.

[Q] Notification Sounds while playing Music??

Hello. I was just wondering if anyone else has found it annoying that the notification sounds still play even while I'm playing music?! Even worse, it actually pauses the music for like a second! What gives? Is there a way to change this behavior (aside from, of course, manually putting the phone on SILENT).
I made a Tasker profile putting my phone on silent whenever the headset is plugged. Any way to do this for when I'm playing music through the phone speakers?
i was thinking the same thing the other day, how annoying it is when it pauses to set off the notification! there must be a way to stop it!
using google play music?

[Q] Sudden pause while listening to music

While listening to music on the play music app, watching on youtube, and doing other stuff on the tablet that generate sounds, I noticed a sudden pause/lag during screen rotation. Does anyone experience this?
Note: I am on JSS15Q
Thanks.
This does not occur when listening through headphones, but only out loud.

Yep, getting the same. It's just a momentary pause, but it's annoying - pretty sure the N7 is just about powerful enough to play music and rotate the screen....
Not sure if it's a ROM or a kernel issue. I rooted and flashed within an hour of opening the box, so don't know if it was present on stock as well.
I have a theory. When listening in portrait, the two speakers at the bottom are playing in stereo. When you flip to landscape the speakers at the bottom become the right side audio, and the speaker near the top becomes the left side audio. So it takes a moment for the tablet to adjust the output.

[Q] Music Goes Quiet When Playing Games.

WHY when i listen to Music Whilst Playing Games the volume to my Music goes down??
Its annoying is there way to stop this, i've tried turning down all sounds from game but it still happenes.
please help its annoying.
thanks trimbal.
Probably has something to do with the sound API for the music player. There might be a setting in your music player to not lower the volume when other sounds play over the speaker.
It's meant to be useful like when you're listening to music and a notification or your GPS has an announcement, the music lowers automatically so you can here it.

Try turning off the game music and sound effects. Then close game, start music player and then start game.
thanks for replys
No none of that work...has any1 else had this problem? ?
and any other help.
thanks.
You need to troubleshoot. Try different music players. Pandora, Google play, different music players (loads to choose from).
Do they all do it?
