Okay, my friend hooked his DZ to USB to charge it today (his charger is lost), and it had 10% battery remaining. So detached it after 2 hours, to find out that it is not turning on. Now, I have the phone, and it is acting like this:
1. When connected to charger, the orange LED will blink.
2. Vol down+power will not launch fastboot.
3. It would turn on a couple of times but then it would die. For no reason.
4. When pressing the power button if doesn't turn on, it will vibrate 3 times and the orange LED will blink.

Unless you can get another battery in there to test if the phone charges it correctly, you might not have a choice! They're pretty cheap, and often come bundled with extra batteries.
Fortunately...
Fortunately,I'd the same problem with hTC Desire AKA Bravo,I changed the battery and it solved the problem.
Hope changing the battery helps you over this...
My G2 did exactly what you are referencing I left that phone off for three days, replaced the battery with a brand new one (oem) charged it overnight and the next morning it powered up and been fine ever since.
Agreed. - You just need a new battery.

Almost certainly the battery. There is an outside possibility it is the circuits that control the power, but that seems unlikely.

Thanks lets see if this battery replacement works..
Quick question, guys.
Will leaving the One X plugged in all night ruin the life of the battery? First thing I do when I get home is plug the thing in (it usually is at <20% charge), and then only take it out in the morning (8, maybe 10 hours after). I am especially concerned as the phone's battery is built in, and replacing it will be a pain.
Thanks for taking time to leave your thoughts.

It won't ruin the battery. However leaving it in there for days would.

Cheers for the quick reply. Yeah, I imagine that would ruin the battery. I've a habit of listening to Stitcher or whatnot 'til I fall asleep. Guess that isn't much of a problem now. Thanks!

works the same way if it's in a dock so it's pretty safe to leave it there overnight.
Previous HTC phones I have had do something like this:
Charge to 100%.
Go off charger, until battery reaches ~95%.
Charge back to 100%.
It's a cycle that is repeated while your phone is on the charger, to prevent it from over charging. This is also why sometimes you'll take the phone off the charger when the green light is on and it'll be down to 92% after two minutes.

Good tips, guys. Thanks for the help.
Good advice in this thread
One thing that has not been mentioned is what about leaving it plugged in overnight with the screen on, kinda like a desk clock. Would that cause problems?

Morning all,
I run:
rooted HTC One X running Renovate ROM
this phone is one of the faulty batch with the dodgey wifi issue
I have repaired the wifi issue
the phone has been working fine for the last 3 weeks
I plugged the phone in to charge last night
this morning it is totally dead, there is no charging light when plugged in,
I did notice that the phone was running very hot last night
phone is on T-Mobile UK
any ideas?
suspect the phone overheated and it cooked the battery
Sorry to hear that, I don't think it's a good idea to charge it through out the night. Can you still feel the heat of the mobile?
It has happended to me !!!!

No need to worry, it has happened to me a few times. remove it from the usb, make sure you plug it back into the wall charger and hold the power button looking at the LED on the top, it should go red. if not just press it and wait a few times. I know it sounds crazy but it has worked ever time. once the LED comes on, just leave it to charge.

Thanks everyone - I rooted last week so I'm already running clockwork 5.8.4.0
I plugged it in the OEM charger and into a known good socket (house is 150 years old and some of the wiring ....well...)
anyroad, I left the phone for an hour and when I returned the amber charging light was on and it was showing 63% battery.
I think I might have the problem diagnosed. I keep the phone in a 3rd party leather wallet which also has space for cards and money. I usually charge the phone in this with no problem however I suspect that the jacket caused heating issues - the phone was running Audible for Android last night, and the combination of all caused the overheating.
In future I will remove the phone from the jacket before charging overnight
phew!
and thanks to all for your assistance!!:good:

This is nonsense, it does no harm to keep it plugged indefinitely.

Same thing happened to me. Plug it to your computer with the USB cable (not to the AC charger) and let it be for 15 minutes. At one point, it will start charging. Then leave it for another 30 minutes before switching it on.
What happens is that it goes crazy and instead of charging starts to discharge, and when it discharges completely it will not even boot into the charging mode or respond to power button.

This is called FUD.
1) Modern Li-Po batteries don't mind being charged to full (damage occurs above 4.23V)
2) they don't mind temperature (to some extent of course)
3) they don't need to be discharged (yes, it can mess calibration, but it also wears them out)
4) all batteries in consumer electronics are protected, so even if the charger/phone does something stupid, they should not be harmed
5) battery explosions and fires are caused by mechanical damage or a short, charging circuit malfunctions are very uncommon
6) when you leave it plugged in, it will not harm the battery, though it depends on device what happens - the device can run from the charger and let the battery be, or it can run from the battery and start charging again at ~95% (this is what lenovo laptops do), or it can keep running from and charging the battery (this is what a HOX will do IMO). Everything but the first case wears the battery out, but it's so minor that you won't notice it at all.
This article was written for sake of having an article, it's full of misleading and incorrect information. I don't need to be a battery expert to notice that.
In short - your phone knows what to do.
Guys whatever you say but i had Samsung galaxy s before and its battery died because i used to keep downloading on atorrent all night keeping it plugged. Though battery was cheap just 10$ so no problem but htc has non removable battery plus it would be costlier i guess 30-40$ so i would recommend not to keep it plugged for too long

I got an old motorola V3i that i have had for over 5 years, & i have always charged it over night from almost flat to 100% & it still lasts as long as it did 10 days a time.
I will take personal experience anytime.
So I have a CDMA Verizon Nexus running the latest version of Bugless Beast. It's been working great for a week now, but today it's had the craziest problems.
I forgot to charge it last night, woke up to a dead battery, so I plug it in the charger for an hour, but it stays at 0 percent. It never charges at all. Then I unplugged it, the phone dies, and it can't charge at all. I take it to a Verizon store, they swap it for a new extended battery, and it boots up the phone, showing it was a battery issue.
After I come home with the new battery inserted, I notice the battery is draining again even with the new one and it's charging again.
I tried to wipe it and recover it to stock so I can see if the issues are the same with stock settings, but of course, the battery died in the middle of it all.
Has anyone had issues like this? Thanks in advance!
Try a different charged are you using the stock charger and extent ion cords?

Sorry, forgot to mention that I was using the stock charger and have tried other chargers for different phones laying around the house. When I took it to the Verizon store they also tried different chargers before replacing the battery, but it wouldn't turn on. Swapping it with a new battery worked temporarily, until it started to drain again even with it charging using the stock one.

I unfortunately can't check them now because both batteries are spent and the phone won't charge them, but if it helps at all, I noticed that it would have the charging icon on the battery when plugged in, it would say "charging" on the lock screen, but when i would check the battery stats,it would go against all of that and say "discharging" instead.
Just for my understanding: the phone is off, you charge for a couple of hours, the phone does display the charge icon when you plug in a charger, but if you try to turn on the phone after a few hours of charging it's still dead?

Almost all correct. When I say charge icon, I mean the one in the top right corner of the screen when it's actually on. I've never been able to get the black screen with a charging battery to show up at any point.
Say I have a battery that has about 35 percent juice left. The phone will be on, and I'll leave it in the charger. It will say its charging, I can operate the nexus just fine, but according to the battery stats in the settings, it's actually discharging while it's plugged in. Once it hits zero, that battery is useless.

That's what I was guessing as well. My only problem is that since it's rooted, the warranty is voided, so I can't get a replacement phone. I had come so close to bringing it back to stock and unrooting it with its last bit of battery, but it died right in the middle of it attempting to re lock the bootloader.
At this point I think I only have a few options...
1.) Buying another battery from Verizon so I have some juice for the Nexus to finish up the bootloader issue mentioned above, bringing it back to stock, then bringing the phone in to replace it.
2.) Just say I lost it and hope for the best that they'll give me a replacement one. I bought it off contract from a third party vendor which probably won't help my case, but I am insured by Verizon on the phone, so it may just work.

A third option could be lending/buying a charger that allows you to charge your battery outside the phone. I think DealExtreme sells those. Shipping takes a while though. Anyway, good luck. Hope you'll get a replacement.
Option Number 2 may not work out for you, do you have insurance?

Yeh looks that way so that means no new phone for a week as I have to wait for them to collect it then send me a new one, can't just take it to a store which is stupid

Charger that came with it but checked dock pins to make sure voltage is present in the phone which it clearly is
Does sound dead sadly, should have some charge if it came new.
Does it get detected as anything by windows even if off?
Any repsonse if you hold down the power button and both volume buttons?
Mine did the same thing when it was fresh out the box. I just left it on sharge for a couple of hours and the charge light then lit and it powered up. The battery was just very flat on arrival.
Did your battery warm up though? This ones cold to the touch
I think it's dead so already called for a replacement but gotta wait for it
In the meantime I will leave it to charge overnight but I'm not hopeful at all, be better if we could access the battery instead of HTC going all apple on us
As I got my hox, it was fully discharged too, and it took ca. 30 minutes to bring it back to life...

When I first got mine was at 15% battery, after 24hrs charging (original charger, laptop, Inc s charger...) nothing changed.
Ended up with a replacement but took optus Australia 3 weeks to replace it.
...
Try to change cable I have to do that because stock cable that came with phone is sh..t.One day just stop working. Now using NOKIA CA-101 and no problem at all fantastic build quality. With stock cable had that problem couple times
Even if it does not light right up, the battery should get warmer when charging. Like advised, try a different cable, if that does not work either, then there probably is no simple solution that you can solve on your own.
