Should I flash diff. firmware before new ROM ? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello all- I have just gone back to Android after a short stint on Windows, it's good to be home
In the old days of my Galaxy I9000 I recall having to flash corresponding firmware with a new/particular ROM.
Now on my Galaxy Nexus the ROM threads do not state having to be on a particular firmware before flashing any of the G. Nexus ROM's.
I am using the Docomo SC-04D Galaxy Nexus, permanent unlock with firmware "SC04DOMKKD".
I have already flashed the Manhattan and AOK Maguro Milestone and all works well but am wondering if I should flash a new firmware before doing any other ROM's ?
Would there be any reasons to or not to ?
Thanks for any information !!!!
Cheers, LL13-

No, you don't need to flash a new "firmware" first before a ROM.
You can flash different kernels and basebands while in the same rom though.

[Q] I8150 and I8150B: any differences?

Hello,
I'm new here and bought a version of Galaxy W sold in Brazil, which is I8150B, not I8150.
Is there any differences between them? I've searched the entire web and found nothing about it!
I want to flash a custom ROM and I only see ROMs to I8150 model; I'm a bit afraid to flash those ROMs in my phone and lose any capability.
Thanks in advance.

LOL... Same here joaocadide... Good to know I'm not the only one...
I have the same question and so far I haven't found what the difference is...
When I bought mine December last year it came with 2.3.5 and my Baseband is different: I8150BVJKJ4.
You can flash any custom ROM available here, but you're gonna lose pt_br systemwise. Only pt_pt, English and other languages from Asia or Europe will be available.
Not a problem for me and some optimized ROMs are quite good, but since you already have 2.3.6, if you are not in a hurry to experiment, wait for CM9 to come out with ICS (it may a while though...problems with cameras and bluetooth are being worked out AFAIK).
I tried to install some ROMs from I8150 in my I8150B (actually they were Kezra Value Pack 1.1 and Black Notes Hybrid roms).
Everything seemed to work fine: 3G, GSM, Wifi...
But I messed with some configs (Zram and Vsync stuff) and the phone got very slow and didn't turn on again.
I'm going to try some new ROMs from I8150 version. I think it is okay.
The problems are that there's no PT-BR language for the system and Swype (I really love Swype) and it lacks the "Código da operadora" option in "Call" menu.

Man, I was looking just for this thread, about difference of i8150 and i8150b. I flashed some custom ROMS. Really loved the RebelROM Milestone 2, it is based in CM9 and have no problems with cam and wifi.
The problem is losing pt_br and swype. I thought I could try a custom ROM, to see how it works and I tryed. But it seems that I will have to wait CM9, unless that there are another custom ROM multi-language
Sorry, I just realized that this custom is not based in CM9. It just use CM9 themes. In fact it is based in black notes hybrid xD

Only flash Samsung 4.2.2 Jellybean based custom roms for best results (especially for new users)
Your post here is in the wrong forum for the Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 phone.
The correct i9505 forum is located at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2166
and there you will find all kinds of roms which you can flash after your phone is rooted.
Rooting your phone is the first thing you have to do if you want to flash any roms.
Before going to the i9505 rom forum it's best to go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803
so you can root your phone. Before flashing any roms your phone needs to be rooted.
You will find everything you need including step by step rooting instructions in the link above.
Good luck!

[Q] SGH T999 and Roms.

I had recently obtained a s3 its a T-mobile, its running 4.1.2, with the T999UVDMD5 baseband. I rooted it, flashed xposed(haha the only thing XD). Well, reading about/friends have said there was trouble with the 4.3 update so I decided to stay on 4.1.2.
However, now I've decided to flash a custom rom, and I have noticed the different labels(D2lte, D2tmo, D2usa) and I had read from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736477 "As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants" .
I have a few questions:
1.There was a baseband update, should I update it? If so, how exactly?
2.Would it be wise to flash a D2lte on This T-mobile device? I was looking at Resurrectionhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692481(originally waiting on cm11 but.. Yeah lol)
3.Looking at KitKat rooms, which ones could I flash?
4.Would it be safe, if I did flash a 4.4.2 to restore a nandroid backup of my fresh rooted stock 4.1.2.
5.Lastly, what kernel would you say use?(Sorry to ask, curiosity as to which i could flash)
I appreciate taking your time to answer my questions and have a good day!
1) custom recovery.. There are zips available to flash
2) d2lte covers all d2 devices so its safe
3)Any on the development threads
4) Yes
5) like on 3, you can flash any kernel in the development threads, experiment and see which one works the best for you!

To answer your questions:
1. You do not need to update your firmware - I'm still on MD5. Modems, however, can be flashed separately from firmware.
2. You can flash d2lte ROMs on this phone as it's all one unified build for US SGS3 variants. (I.e. T-Mobile/AT&T/Sprint/Verizon SGS3 is now all built under d2lte).
3. As far as which KK ROM to flash...just try them all out and see which ones you like the best. Each ROM has different features - see which one is right for you.
4. If you don't update your firmware, then yes. (FYI, flashing a custom KK ROM does not update your firmware. However, if you flash one of the 4.3 root66 files that has firmware included, then it will update your firmware).
5. Again, try it out. It's hard to say which ROM/kernel combination will work best. I suggest you read the forums to see what people think of them.
Hope that helps.

No problem, and i forgot to say but the only time you might need to update modem is if you flash a 4.3 touchwiz ROM, other than that its not really needed unless you want to experiment and see if one gives you better results

Oh, and one more thing: DO NOT flash a ROM that is for the international version of the SGS3 (i9300). It will, most definitely, brick your phone.
Don't know if you knew that or not...just wanted to make sure.

[Q] Can custom rom's firmware base be different then what my phone came with?

Hi everyone, enjoying my awesome M9 like everyone else =D
and its time to move on to the custom rom goodness.
I can't seem to find an answer to the question. (maybe its too obvious? coming from s3)
Mine is a M9 (hong kong), with 1.32.708.15 (s-On) and all the custom roms are 1.32.401.17 based.
Is it safe to Flash it?
This is the only info i managed to find at the ARHD 5.0 OP with regards to the question.
"- If your current firmware version doesn't match ROM firmware version, wiping data inside AROMA is highly recommended!"
Would be nice if I can get some confirmation from you guys.
Yes it is fine right now since it is the same base. Get soff while you can so flashing firmware in the future is easy. Remember always backup first. Use twrp 2864

I did this on the M8 before, I had problems with the wifi and it took ages to boot until I found out that my firmware is old and different from the rom.
Anyway, I did what you are trying to do yesterday, (firmware 15/ rom 17) for a couple of minutes, didnt find any problems.
Before you flash any ROM, BACKUP your system and move it to your PC and use the latest TWRP
Thats good to hear! I'm gonna give it a try once i'm back in town! Thx!
Please Help me!
I have a HTC (M9) Verizon, and base is 1.33.605.15, it is advisable to downgrade the base to 1.32.401.17?? (for install customs roms with this base)

No sim with lineage based roms

Hi, i need some advice about this problem, bcz i searched that a lot but i cdnt find anu solution. Any Lineage based roms, like Viperos, Strelka, Ressurection Remix, Aokp rom etc (Any 7.x.x too i guess) doesnt work well on my n7100. Im flashing them and they are booting fine too, But when the screen came on, they says no sim, when i checked about device i dont see any info about modem. But imei is not erasing. Boot loader mj5, modem nd3 (i just changed it mj7 modem but still same) . When i flash stock rom or Hyper rom or any 4.x.x based rom works fine. I cdnt find any solution bcz i tried everything. Anyone can give me an idea about this ? bcz i stuck with 4.4.x roms. Thanks..
Is the phone running the latest by bootloader and modem? Some custom ROMs require a phone that is running the latest version of both.

Yes , found latest ones in here and flashed some time ago.
Did you update the bootloader and modem by flashing the latest stock rom or just the bootloader and modem? Not sure if this would make a difference.

I tried both way. Stock rom and 4.4.x based custom roms works fine. They were working fine with older modem and bootloader too. I tried to flash lineage based custom roms on working stock rom and custom 4.4.x too, w/o wipe. They did same thing, everything works fine just no sim silly right ?
Very strange that the sim is not detected. I don't have a note 2 to try out Lineage.
Did you post your question in the the ROM's thread in the Development Forum? Perhaps someone there could offer some more advice.

Yep its strange, i guess the real problem is those roms doesnt see what modem i have in device, bcz they are not showing that in about device. Thanks anyway, at least you tried to give some ideas
I didnt post my question in the rom's thread, let me try it.
