[Q] Puter wants to fix sd card - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Every time I mount my card to the puter it wants to fix it. I haven't let it. Should I do this next time? Take it out and copy it first or what? Help!!

Yeah, should see there is no problem, atleast thats what Ive seen. Happened to me twice over a 2 year period, never touched any of the files either time.

Does the same thing for me. I just ignore it. Still works fine on my phone.

One for and one against....oh what to do? LOL!!

I can say from experience that I tried to let it fix it one time......deleted all my files. So from now on, I just skip it.
2-1 now.

2-1.... still not much to go on. I don't know what I should do. Sucks!

Just back it up. Plug it up, let it "fix" it. If it doesn't format it, then you're good. If it does, load everything back on to it, and you're good.

Well if the files are messed up - they'll be messed up on your HDD also. My phone gets the exact same message when I connect it in MS mode. Not a big deal as long as everything is working fine then just skip the message. Odds are it'll happen again anyway.

Oh well I copied files and then let the puter fix it. Thanks everyone for your input! At least I know that I am not the only one. I haven't checked to see if it will do it again.

It can happen with any removable flash media or drives if you disconnect without using the remove safely in the tray of the task bar. In the past (say Windows 98) when you copied a file to removable media it actually wasn't completely written. You could go hours and unless you safely removed or shut down the machine it would never flush what was left to the flash device.
The reason for that as the default was to improved perceived performance... I believe. The behavior is changeable in windows but I believe the default behavior on say 7 is to write immediately. Less chance of anything being wrong still a good chance it wants to run scan disk. Its just an annoying you didn't do it right and windows wants to make sure your unhappy with yourself kind of message. Though it has, had a purpose, still does.

I think W7 does that also. The delayed write, yes? I've removed things before and received the lovely "Windows delayed write could not write files because the devices was removed" or something to that extent.
Maybe it was the computer at work (XP)...

W7 has the option to use delayed write or not. I believe it can be changed through the properties on the flash device itself, but I will have to verify that when I am at a PC.

[Q] A few questions regarding Froyo 2.2

I just downloaded Froyo 2.2 on my new TP2 and i LOVE it miles more than the WinMo setup.
Some problems i'm getting, are the physical keyboard layout seems to be different, like i can't use the numbers on the top row and just a few others,I don't care too much about the other things, but i would like the keyboard to be as accurate as possible.
Another problem i have is,i can't get into the phone and edit some files in the Sd card.
In a tutorial it says i can't use a HC sd card but it would be great as it offers 4 gig of space compared to my 1 gig of space on my current card, can i use a hc sd?
Thanks.
First, this is the general section - you should post in the Android section.
Second, no clue what tutorial you're talking about (you didn't provide any links!) - mine doesn't mention anything about high-capacity cards - assuming your phone can read it, you can use it. Up to 32gb is what our phones can read.
For the physical keyboard make sure you're using the correct startup.txt and corresponding physkeyboard setting.

Yeah,i was actually ready to post in there,in the actual sticky that you made but it didn't let me because i didn't have more than 10 posts.
Oops and it was this this tutorial [Ah can't post links neither since i need more than 8 posts lol]But the tutorial said NOT to use an SDHC card. Also the question i asked about not being able to access the SD card's file from a usb connection, should i just remove the card and plug it into my computer if i need to add ringtones on it or access the android files?
Can't say i saw a physkeyboard setting or file as all i did was download your bundle and place the Tilt 2 startup.txt in the SD card's root location.
Thanks for the quick reply and sorry if this was asked tons of times.I tried to click the FAQ on the sticky but it just weirdly kept redirecting me to the sticky thread again.
You're either blind, or... well I won't go there.
<<<This is a link to the... FAQ Click it!!>>>
I don't see how you missed that link, nor how it was redirecting you anywhere. That "Into to Android" thread is... let's say less than ideal.

Yes i clicked that in the sticky thread several times and it was just acting weird. But it seems to have answered most of my questions, except my physical keyboard is still wonky.I have found the setting you were talking about in the system.txt and it does say physkeyboard=Tilt 2 but i still can't use the row of numbers at the top,and now after a second bootup the on screen keyboard won't show up anymore.

On-screen kb works great, assuming its enabled.
Also, kb setting is "tilt2" if I'm not mistaken. CaSe MaTtErs in Linux!
I was finally able to fix the keyboard problem.I guess i was supposed to have the RHOD 400 startup.txt.Well now i'm absolutely in love with this, except that my phone keeps reboot for some reason...Any ideas?

lol, then you have a RHOD400? It clearly states this under the battery, as part of the FCC ID.
Anyhoo, reboots happen for any number of reasons. Anything you're doing in particular when they happen? Are they consistently reproducible? They could be anything from the SD card to a few bugs that I believe are still outstanding relating to the radio to...

Yeah,i was just herpin derpin i guess. At first i thought it was because of an overclock i applied but then i brought it back to stock clocks and it still does.It reboots anywhere from 3-5 times a day and seems to do so at completely random.

That's not normal. Try a different SD, wipe the current SD with the HP Tool...
Short of that, nothing gets fixed or at least confirmed as to what the issue is without logs. From reboots there's ramconsole and dropbox logs. Dropbox logs are easier to gather, as they're just sitting in /data/system/dropbox. Grab all the SYSTEM_LAST_KMSG files. The ramconsole method is a little more involved, and I won't go into it here.

Alright, finally got it to stop rebooting,by changing the sd card...........BUT now people always text me saying that they called me and that my phone went straight to voicemail or just rang all the way through to voicemail, even though i didn't receive anything on my end. This seems very hit or miss,as sometimes it works fine and sometimes i won't receive calls at all.Strange that i'll still get text messages though.

Make sure you boot with WinMo in airplane mode. No radios should be on in WinMo when you're booting Android..
My phone used to reboot a lot too especially when I'm moving around. I discovered it was a network thing, so each time I'm moving from around town, I disable data connection. I think Android has trouble understanding fluctuation in data connection, so I noted areas with little or no data reception and switch offg data when passing through such area.

MTP stop working... Help!!

Guys.. I have a problem >.<
I was copying my music files across in MTP mode and suddenly it stop functioning. I cant copy anything on to my GN anymore. I try switching to PTP mode but same problem.
I can view the file on GN fine but I cant copy anything now. Any help please >.<
Note: I just finished copied 2 albums and that is it so my storage is not full.
had the same problem!
try not to copy & paste multiple files at once, rather copy whole folders!
at least it worked for me. I read about this problem somewhere else.
It just plain does not work. You would think that due to the lack of USB mass storage, Google, Samsung - whoever would have refined the MTP, but it's totally hit or miss. Do yourself a favor and get Airdroid from the market. It's free, and it works. Pretty damned dissapointing for a $700 phone.

I don't think so, lot's of people with issues. I think you will find Airdroid much faster than USB anyway.
That is really freakin annoying. This afternoon I transfered Gigs of Music, now it won't even let me copy pictures. I un- and reinstalled drivers, rebooted both PC and phone, still nothing. Can't even use Airdroid as I don't have a WiFi network here.
Yeah, I agree, MTP has been nothing but buggy for me as well. Sometimes it shows some folders, sometimes it shows them all. Same with files.
I just did a little learning about MTP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol interesting read. I wonder who is to blame for the bugginess, the host (initiator) or the device (responder)?
For me Unfortunately, MTP application has stopped problem is solved !!!
Read my post #6, problem is solved !!! very minor point but we tend to overlook it...

HUGE security flaw

Anyone else uneasy that no matter what if someone finds your phone they can hook up to pc and have access to your internal storage?? Is there no way to change this and have a charge only option under usb?
If someone has your phone plugged into their computer, you either:
1) Are with them
2) Had your phone stolen.
If you have your phone stolen, there's nothing stopping them from battery pulling, going into recovery, and getting all your data from there (granted you're rooted).
Still ide rather not anyone including nosey friends get the pics of my ding dong off my phone with out my permission...
All kidding aside you see my point right
It's very simple, set a passcode and MTP does not show any data until the phone is unlocked.

I typically prefer nekkids of my gf on my phone vs sausage but to each their own
This is why you should likely have the ability to remote-wipe your device (via Software), and why you need to ponder very carefully what data you keep on your phone. The easiest way to avoid your friends finding pictures you'd rather they don't see is not to keep those pictures on your phone in the first place.
There are encryption-based Lockboxes which function on the Galaxy Nexus, and it does actually support Full-Disk encryption (with many bugs and downsides), but in short, you need to assume that anything on your phone is accessible to anybody who cares enough to take it from you. Remember, security never buys you safety against others getting your data, it just gives you time to respond before they can get access.
Wow how foolish of me. I totally didnt realize and i googled this an apparently no.one else did.either thanks

Seriously though the guy above is correct. Locked my phone, plugged in, and no data shows.until i swipe and enter pin
There are also apps you can download to lock certain apps you don't want opened. (Gallery for instance)
I agree though, the safest and best bet is to set a password on your phone and be done with it!

A setting for my Exchange server for my company that i work for reminds me each time setup my phone that they can remote wipe my phone. As can i From our Web Access portal for email. Just another option.
Will
Mine doesn't work that way.
I have a pattern set on my galaxy nexus. If I connect it to my computer the "internal storage" doesn't show up until I unlock the phone.
However, if you lost your phone, there are numerous ways to get your data. This applies to most phones out there
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
move the pics you don't want people to see into a hidden folder then they wont show up in the gallery
I have "gotya" installed. Not only will send me the gps location of my ohone command but also take a pic of the peraon using the phone when.an incorrect pin is entered. Screw wiping my phone ill just go get it myself

A little help with Data recovery

My screen got cracked about a month ago, the phone will pwer on, however I cannot see the screen. I received my replacement from the insurance and I haven't sent my old phone back in yet, because I have pictures of my kid on there and quite frankily I think it is bull**** to send it back with that kind of stuff on there. Anyway Asurion sent a threating letter, saying that I owe 500$ if the phone isn't sent in within 10 days, so this is where you guys come in.
I need help retrieving the data from the phone, so that I can have the pictures of my son or if its not possible, I need to wipe it clean so that they cannot (even if they won't) see my stuff. The screen is broken as i mentioned, but it powers on.
Try android screencast.
Turn it on and drop box will do the rest with auto upload (you have to dl the beta on to your comp)(I'm to lazy to link you)
You just have to some how mount it to the computer

Yea without screen functionality it is kinda hard to figure that part out...Is there anyone out there with ADB exp. maybe if I can get in that way I can just pull my DCIM off of the internal storage, but I need to know how.
There are some detailed threads with a ton of adb commands for mounting and unmounting and doing pretty much everything else through adb.
Just search xda for adb commands and you should find a good thread with a bunch lined out.
I'd suggest using HDMI mirroring. You can move everything to your external SD card (via any file explorer) and do that.
You'll need an MHL adapter, though.
From what I am reading if the phone still works just the screen is dead I don't see why you wouldn't be able to just hook it up to your computer and pull everything off then delete everything.

With a broken touch screen how does he enable USB storage mode?
Seriously, I was looking to get more advice than I did, but after all who really helps around here unless they create it and even then they do not offer support any more
Anyways, I took both devices apart and I used the good screen with the old motherboard, hell I even saw the text messages I missed, I uploaded all the photos to my SD and did a reformat on the USB storage to wipe the photos off the phone, because they stayed for some reason.
Thanks, to the guys that gave suggestions.

[Q] The device deleted all of my storage on its own..

Hello everybody.
This retarded phone..deleted all of my files that were in storage. That includes, photos, music. ebooks etc..i have no idea why it would do that ! it is not the first time this happens. the phone was connected to my computer, then i transferred some files to it, and after i disconnected i saw that my storage was empty sans the files i just transferred.
does anyone have an ideas why did it happen or how to prevent a situation like this in the future ?!
The PC term is "phones with disabilities".
Reboot your phone and I bet it is working properly again. Something about mounting computer storage search blah rabble.

Thanks for replying, but i don't think you understood me. the phone is working normally, and the storage is mounted properly and recognised by the computer. the problem is that all of my data that was on the device got deleted by itself, by the phone ! as absurd as this sounds..

I got that you were implying that, but I didn't think you seriously thought that was the case. Plus I've experienced the same thing when unmounting from the comp, a reboot fixes it. I mean if your storage isn't holding data you must have a hardware issue right? Or you keep your phone next to a powerful magnet or something. Your options are limited in that case. Warranty it or buy a new device. The only other thing I can think of is you recently updated to JB and are confused by the /0/ partition.

couldn't the problem be software wise ? this has happened both in android 4.1 and 4.2..

I hope not! There shouldn't be any software that wipes your sdcard w/o you wanting it to. I mean, I guess for you I would hope that's the case since you wont be out the hardware, but personally I am unaware of any software that functions like that. Can you replicate it? If you download a song or a picture or something right now and plug your phone up to the comp, will everything be wiped again?

No..it is totally random.
the only thing that i could possibly think about is that i sent an app to be installed from the Play Store while the phone was connected to the PC..maybe that caused some kind of interference ?!
I wish it was that easy sending the phone for repairs. it is still under warranty but i bought it abroad, which means i would be left without a phone for a month or two and will have to deal with customs.
Unfortunately, nobody but you seem to be able to help me. i appreciate you trying to help, thank you.
