Silenced ICS camera? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Is there a silenced touchwiz ICS camera that works on the latest leaks? I know there's one for el29, but I'm running fd24 and prefer an updated one.

DL one of several of the roms in DEV and extract it. Won't be hard to find.
Once you extract it, copy it over and replace the old one, fix permissions, reboot and you're golden.

someone else here posted the quick fix:
use an app like root explorer-
system/media/audio/ui
delete 'shutter.ogg'

+1 Do that. Simple easy and works.
Deleting just the sounds won't work to stop the autofocus sound, it's in the apk.

I believe if you go into the lightweight fi27 rom thread. They have a silenced camera zip. Not 100 sure. Or why not just flash lightweight fi27 rom . It comes with silenced camera. Cheers.

I've wiped cache and downloaded stock gingerbread notification mod, vivow_stock_gingerbread_notification_bar_mod.zip but it does not seem to remove my GPS icon as it has for others. Any suggestions?

Is your current rom deodexed? That is a must in order for it to work.
It may not be. Is there a quick way to tell? Is there a simple process to deodex? The rooting process went fine, and I assumed this opened the phone to all mods, but I must have been wrong. I'll search for a good link to deodex unless you have a better suggestion. Thanks.

deodexing the ROM requires knowledge of using android kitchen and in a sense re-building the ROM, it's fairly simple if you know what you're doing. a good way to check if you'er rom is deodexed is with root explorer, and check out system/apps and if u see double things like MMS.apk and MMS.odex that odex, in deodex you would just see the mms.apk
+1 andybones.
The first question I guess would be are you running a custom rom? If not then you are not deodexed.
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible 2 via the XDA app.
Yep, the .odex files are there, so I am NOT deodexed. Seems like it might not be worth the trouble to deodex. although I do have ROM manager backup and can reinstall if I severely screw up. I'm running the rooted 2.3.3 verizon gingerbread.
OK, Switched to VU 2.3.9 and now all seems to work fine! Thanks.

Nexus Prime Bootanimation, flashable.

Well, just what the title says, I guess.. The leaked Ice Cream Sandwich bootanimation from the Nexus Prime, I just made up a flashable zip, so you don't have to mess around with a file explorer, or the changing permissions by hand nonsense.
(Flashes normally thru clockwork,no wipe needed.)
Hope y'all like it, as a simple script like that takes me right about to the limit of my abilities. (lol)
Anyhow, here you go:
http://db.tt/EqtFPdhH,
And here's a vid of it running on some other guy's device (I think the same guy who actually leaked it) ... http://goo.gl/6oxnD
UPDATE: And finally, Here's a version for those of you who are running the stock, rooted kernel:

I'm on Midnight, and it works fine here..
(It's also deodexed, but if your rom is stock, then perhaps I just wasn't aware where the 'stock' Bootanimation was located and what it is named..
This zip basically flashes a new file named "bootanimation.zip" to the system/media/ folder, overwriting the one that's already there, with the correct permissions. I assumed that the stock boot animation was in the same spot.. Apparently it isn't, but if you or someone else could actually take a look with a file explorer, I'd be happy to make one up for "Stock" location as well. (In the meantime, if you don't wanna wait, just extract my zip^, and replace it "by hand".
Sorry about that..
<<work in progress>>

Not bad, thanks!
Works fine Starburst v1.4 - super throwed THanks!
For those that it is not working for ...It needs a kernel with bootanimation.zip support.

Pretty cool boot animation. As far as where the stock boot animation is, it is locked under /system/media. You can get to this by using the root explorer. You can also use the stock file viewer, but root explorer allow you to read and write. Hope this helps.
Epic 4G Touch
Ok for those having issues I flashed zedomax v1 kernal with boot ani support from the development section.....as soon as I flashed that the phone booted with the prime ani hope this helps for those who flashed the acs deodex stock rom. I am still stock with root and busybox.

You need a kernel that's bootanimation compatible. Otherwise, the .qmg files in system/media will keep it from playing.

[MOD] [UCALG1/UCALH1] Enable Call Recording

I take no credit for this modification, it is not an original idea nor does it contain original code. It's an adaptation of the modification for the GT-I9300 by wanam which can be found here. I simply made a few slight modifications to accomodate the SGH-I747.
That being said, I have not tested this on anything other than a SGH-I747, running a stock, deodexed UCALG1 or UCALH1.
"CWM" HOWTO
Download the appropriate package for your firmware (eg. UCLAG1, UCALH1)
Boot into recovery.
Make a nandroid backup.
Flash package.
Note: Recordings are saved to /sdcard/Sounds.
Also included are *-Rollback.zip files. These will "revert" or "rollback" this modification, returning you back to the STOCK Dialer (without recording). Be sure to flash the appropriate one for your firmware!
Question, where does it store the recording?

Sure. If you don't mind. Otherwise, when i get my dev box set back up, I am pretty sure I can figure it out.
Currently working on a UCALG1 stock firmware build that has all the potential of the phone unlocked (deodexed, zipaligned, BT and WiFi tether enabled, etc.) since i have only been able to find that for the previous firmware (UCALEM). Just makes it easier instead of having to flash to stock UCALG1 and then run a bunch of updates to get back. This way flash back to rooted stock with all the bells and whistles through odin without tripping the counter. :fingers-crossed:
Once I feel like taking the risk of bricking my phone, was going to work on doing the same to UCALH1 and test it out.
i flashed the UCALG1-DEODEX-EnableCallRecording.zip through CWM stock rom but with no flash counter rooted phone yet i do not see the recording feature. is there something i'm missing? any word of advice folks?
i was able to flash the tether app and debloated app through CWM without any issue; so i'm not sure what i'm missing here. thanks in advance

You CAN deodex a stock ROM, but gig would have to either flash a deodexed stock ROM or deodex your apks yourself. In order to apply custom modifications or themes, you'll need a deodexed ROM.
I, personally, run a stock ROM.. stock TouchWiz, etc, justed rooted and deodexed.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S III
I am not deodexed. To run I simply renamed the phone apk and phone odex files in system/app folder to .old then moved the phone apk from the zip to the system/app folder using es file explorer. Rebooted .... record calls!

Be careful what state you are in when you use this. Lots of us states require two party notification to record calls (caller and called party)

Call Recording + No Increasing Ring
Attached is a CWM update that incorporates not only the Call Recording found in this thread, but also the mod to not have the increasing ringer which was by yoelsd. Thanks goes to both the OP and yoelsd and too many others that gave guides for decompiling and editing APKs... I also used the CWM zip that yoelsd gave with his update, as the update-script will remove the .odex file since the SecPhone_ATT.apk file is deodexed.
I just tested this out on my stock "Odexed" rooted SGS-III using the UCALG1 Firmware and it works like a charm. Best of both worlds. Maybe the OP can put a link in the first post to this. :fingers-crossed:
CHEERS!
what is this Odexed and De-Odexed business? What's the benefit and why are we doing it?

Odex means there are .odex files present for an application. Example: SecPhone_ATT.apk also has an odex file named SecPhone_ATT.odex. A deodexed application basically has the .odex file complied differently into a .dex file which resides in the .apk. the purpose of odex was for speed but you lose a bit of storage and you cannot usually mod them as easy since part of the program is in 2 places. Deodexed apps tend to use a bit more memory and are not totally optimized for speed (zipalign helps with memory and speed and for the most part differences are negligible) but are the only way you can really make any changes to roms or programs.
There are plenty of resources out there that explain "odex vs deodex" on the interweb via search engine and on this site if searched.

Yup... the update that I posted is good for odexed and deodex roms since I borrowed the update-script that will delete the .odex file when you install it.
See my original post for who all I thanked for their stuff that I used. The only thing I did is take the OPs SecPhone_ATT.apk file for UCALG1 and modify it to include the no increasing ringer... there were guidss int he forums here that showed how to do it. It was easier to do that way, then to try to figure out how to enable call recording and mofiying the other APK to include it... lol
So if you used a DeOdexed rom, you will not notice anything. If you use an Odexed (i.e. stock) rom like I do, you will get a message when the phone boots that android is updating and the only file that will be deOdexed will be the SecPhone_ATT.apk file. If you are rooted, you can verify using file managers on your phone to verify that there is not a SecPhone_ATT.odex file in System/App after the update. If there is, then you can delete it (only if you actually did the update though).

[Q] Is there a way to enable call recording in stock ROM?

Hello there,
I have a rooted t999, unlocked. After going through multiple posts on this forum, I have realized that to enable the call recording feature on your samsung galaxy s3 t999, you got to install a custom ROM.
But, is there any way to update a .apk (or any other method) , compatible with the stock ROM on t999 which might enable the call recording feature back?

Its the samsung dialer so itll only work on stock based roms.
It'll likely be dependant on other parts of the touchwiz framework and is integrated along with contacts and such.

Use root explorer and copy the original from /system/app for your backup.
Pay attention to the permissions it has and copy the modded one over the old. Change permissions to what they were before. Reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik, then reboot system.

This is quite interesting! Although I have root explorer, I am terrible with the android stuff and so I am worried about replacing this apk with the existing phone.apk. (its the lack of "recovery" knowledge that scares me to go ahead)
Has anyone of you experts made the dialer work so far through this integration of FreeGS3 phone.apk on the stock ROM?
Cheers!
Another thing that I just figured - In my stock ROM, I do not have a phone.apk (attaching screenshot)
Which app should be backed up? I am guessing that the GS3 apk should be renamed as the stock ROM apk. correct?

Edit 2:
guys, just figured out that there is actually an .apk called SecPhone_TMO.apk (kept searching for phone.apk )
so, please ignore the screenshot above!
although, will wait for someone to try replacing the stock ROM .apk with the GS3.
Worked perfect on Wicked's ROM. Have to move the stock phone APK out of the system\app directory and replace it with Doc's. Make sure to put the phone in airplane mode first.
Question - where are the recordings stored?
Thanks for the awesome mod!
They are stored at /sdcard/sounds/

I wouldn't worry much about it. Especially if you make a copy of the original file as a backup on extSDcard.
Titanium backup works really well too.
Biggest thing to remember is the permissions.
If you can boot into recovery, wiping cache is no big deal at all. Wiping dalvik isn't bad either. When you reboot it'll rebuild dalvik but will use the new app you copied into system.
ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE ANYTHING!!!
That's the most important yhing you can do when messing with anything. It basically creates an exact image/snapshot of your current setup so you can go back to it at anytime.
Nandroid = Peace of Mind!

When I take a picture, the EXIF info is saved as December 2008.

Why not just run v20f? Once you put in the APN info it runs just fine with AT&T and with the additional tweeks it offers better battery life and a newer improved Adreno driver plus it offers the quickmemo you love its a win win for you.

I can give it a try... But this really isn't a thread about that and I'd like to keep it on topic.

I don't really care about battery life since my phone is always plugged in anyway. But I'd really like to have a working camera.
Vibration on key press are too strong??
Does anyone feels that the vibration when hitting the "menu, search, back" buttons in CM10 is to strong??
Is there any way to reduce the vibration feedback?

This question is almost exactly like, if not completely different than the thread topic... but to answer your questions: I wouldn't say it's too strong, but it seems that it vibrates twice for each press. no.

That's not really the issue. I've tested this on multiple ROMS. The problem exists on:
JellyBam
CM10
ParanoidAndroid
Quattrimus
Hyper Sonic
Does anybody have any ideas here?

Have you tried reflashing the camera and the lib files as well ? i know the lib files have something to do with editing photos and stuffs, cuz i had to flash them after installating the 4.2 camera with new ones or editing would not work, maybe try to reflash the right lib files that comes with the camera version you are using.

You can extract them from the .zip of the rom you are using or a basic CM10 if you are using camera 4.1, if using 4.2 you are gonna have to find the complete package that comes with the lib, look for the thread called "android 4.1 to 4.2" and extract them from its package or extract them from a CM10.1 package (not sure that works tho, used the android 4.1 to 4.2 package in my case)
As for the files, you need to extract:
In the zip, they are in system/lib and are named libjni_filtershow_filters.so libjni_latinimegoogle.so libjni_mosaic.so and liblightcycle.so
Once you extracted the files, (backup or rename the old files 1st) copy them to your phone's system/lib using a root explorer (es or root explorer w.e you like to use) and make sure to change the files persmissions to r-r-rw and reboot your phone.
If that doesnt work, l really dont know ...

It wouldn't work to use those lib files from CM10 because this issue is with all CM10 based Roms

How about flashing the 4.2 camera with the CM10.1 lib files ... you can get them from the "android 4.2 to 4.1" thread i mentioned above, why not give it try instead of assuming it wont work =)

It's not a problem that can be easily fixed. It has to do with the proprietary drivers.
