GPS Mod does not work - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I've wiped cache and downloaded stock gingerbread notification mod, vivow_stock_gingerbread_notification_bar_mod.zip but it does not seem to remove my GPS icon as it has for others. Any suggestions?

Is your current rom deodexed? That is a must in order for it to work.

It may not be. Is there a quick way to tell? Is there a simple process to deodex? The rooting process went fine, and I assumed this opened the phone to all mods, but I must have been wrong. I'll search for a good link to deodex unless you have a better suggestion. Thanks.

deodexing the ROM requires knowledge of using android kitchen and in a sense re-building the ROM, it's fairly simple if you know what you're doing. a good way to check if you'er rom is deodexed is with root explorer, and check out system/apps and if u see double things like MMS.apk and MMS.odex that odex, in deodex you would just see the mms.apk

+1 andybones.
The first question I guess would be are you running a custom rom? If not then you are not deodexed.
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible 2 via the XDA app.

Yep, the .odex files are there, so I am NOT deodexed. Seems like it might not be worth the trouble to deodex. although I do have ROM manager backup and can reinstall if I severely screw up. I'm running the rooted 2.3.3 verizon gingerbread.

OK, Switched to VU 2.3.9 and now all seems to work fine! Thanks.

Don't want to flash FB27 kernel.
Will wait till we get repack for FC06.
But it's a good list. Now we won't breack anything trying to figure out what apps can be removed safely.
Thanks a lot.
Thank you! I will be flashing this soon as well.
If I flash the FB27 kernel so I can get CWM, can I then flash your format all, flash FC06 ROM, flash modem FC05, and this Bare ROM Converter all in one session?
Oh very nice! Although, I guess this is an all or none deal eh? In other words, if I want the digital clock for example, I'd have to push it back after flashing. Still a big time saver though. Thanks for doing this Calk.
Edit - Oh nevermind. You can just pull out the updater script, modify it and put it back. Sweet!

This is useful, thanks.
Since there are still many more applications that can be removed (depending on the users preferences), can you share any insight on how to determine the impact of removing an application? I mean, trial and error obviously, but are there specific errors to watch for in logcat? Or anything along those lines? My goal would be to remove as much as possible from the ICS builds, but still maintaining essential functionality.
Mr Calk, every day you come up with some so simple and yet so useful lol. Much appreciated! thanks
Calk, would this make a stock room just as bare as your barebones roms? Or more? Or less? Thanks.

[Q] Is there a way to enable call recording in stock ROM?

Hello there,
I have a rooted t999, unlocked. After going through multiple posts on this forum, I have realized that to enable the call recording feature on your samsung galaxy s3 t999, you got to install a custom ROM.
But, is there any way to update a .apk (or any other method) , compatible with the stock ROM on t999 which might enable the call recording feature back?
Cheers!

This the stock UVALG1 Dialer app modded by uoY_redruM, dev for the FreeGS3 rom. All thanks and credit goes to him!

I'm pretty sure this is where the mod is included. Not sure right now if its dependant on another modded apk as well. Heading to work so will check later if this doesn't work by itself.

So will this not work on custom ROMs?
Its the samsung dialer so itll only work on stock based roms.
It'll likely be dependant on other parts of the touchwiz framework and is integrated along with contacts and such.
You can try it but I would be extremely surprised if it worked on anything like CM or ASOP.

Wait, sorry I shoulda been specific I guess! I don't think you can install like a normal app.
Use root explorer and copy the original from /system/app for your backup.
Pay attention to the permissions it has and copy the modded one over the old. Change permissions to what they were before. Reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik, then reboot system.
Test.

Thanks a lot Doc!
This is quite interesting! Although I have root explorer, I am terrible with the android stuff and so I am worried about replacing this apk with the existing phone.apk. (its the lack of "recovery" knowledge that scares me to go ahead)
Has anyone of you experts made the dialer work so far through this integration of FreeGS3 phone.apk on the stock ROM?
Cheers!
Another thing that I just figured - In my stock ROM, I do not have a phone.apk (attaching screenshot)
Which app should be backed up? I am guessing that the GS3 apk should be renamed as the stock ROM apk. correct?
http://db.tt/t7Ig4rsG
Edit 2:
guys, just figured out that there is actually an .apk called SecPhone_TMO.apk (kept searching for phone.apk )
so, please ignore the screenshot above!
although, will wait for someone to try replacing the stock ROM .apk with the GS3.
Worked perfect on Wicked's ROM. Have to move the stock phone APK out of the system\app directory and replace it with Doc's. Make sure to put the phone in airplane mode first.
Question - where are the recordings stored?
Thanks for the awesome mod!
They are stored at /sdcard/sounds/
Thank uoy_redrum at the freegs3 thread. Its his work not mine.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Especially if you make a copy of the original file as a backup on extSDcard.
Titanium backup works really well too.
Biggest thing to remember is the permissions.
If you can boot into recovery, wiping cache is no big deal at all. Wiping dalvik isn't bad either. When you reboot it'll rebuild dalvik but will use the new app you copied into system.
ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE ANYTHING!!!
That's the most important yhing you can do when messing with anything. It basically creates an exact image/snapshot of your current setup so you can go back to it at anytime.
Nandroid = Peace of Mind!

Odex script for myonev9.5[gsm]

What is Odex and deodex?
There are a lot of threads that explain this. Google it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200349
IMPORTANT NOTE: Use CWM recovery. If you try in TWR, you end up in boot loops. REASON : The reason it doesn't work with TWRP is because TWRP is dynamically linked and TWRP is usually set up to prevent linking to libraries in /system.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: Setup your MyOneV ROM as per your preference and then Use this script. Once you use this script you can't do any changes to SystemUI.apk and frameworks.

Yeahh, well... I don't know if it's because I'm PrimoC, but I've tried 3 different ClockWorkdMod recoveries, and all failed to boot after flashing this.
On a Fresh Wipe, and flashing this right after the rom, it boots, but it's still deodexed. I've also mounted the system.
Kuban Odexer, and Odex Me also fails to work for me on Sense roms.
Any thoughts?

Will this script work for all phones or just the One v? I don't have a One of any kind, but I am running a 4.2.2 Evervolv nightly.

The Kuban Odexer only odexes my framework, not the apps. Will your's do the apps too? If your wondering why I posted here it was because this thread popped up in a search.
Just for your info, I have an Evo 4G running the 4.2.2 stable Evervolv nightly release, dated 12-13-12 with Wambo_Bomb's Hammerslammer Kernel. Dude, I am so sorry. I just realized I sent you the wrong init.rc. Let me send it again. My bad. i hope your not already working on it. Gimme a few minutes.

Here it is dude. Thanks for helping me with this. I've tried a few odexers but none of them work. Maybe your's will. The info I gave above is correct for this init.rc in case you need to know anything about my device and what I'm running.
Only for SleepyCloud

this should work. try it and pm me if any issues. Important thing is it requires CWM recovery and init.d support in your rom, without that you'll end up in bootloop.

I'm using the CDMA version of myOne, but I think I understand what your saying. That's a kernel file, isn;t it?

Kuban Odexer just stayed on Odexing, please wait. When I turn the phone sideways, it just stops and goes to " Ready to Odex! ". Didn't do a thing. :/
EDIT: Uploaded. Hopefully that's the right file. :victory:

Seems Primoc also have the same classpath. What I think is the CWM recovery must not be proper. I suggest you take a backup and try with TWRP. But a backup so that you don't have to flash the rom again. Use the same script in the op.

This has also failed. I pulled the system folder and it seems like the only thing there is system/bin, although, the bin folder is empty as well.
I was wondering if I could ask a favor. I'll PM you.

Sure!!
I'm also primoc.. kuban odexer works if you have init.d it worked just fine for me.
Also, I'm not trying to take away from the OP I'm just giving my experience of using Kuban odexer with myOne CDMA before this thread was even created.

I know what you mean, but I'm really trying to become Odexed. xD
What rom did you use and how long did it take?
