It would seem that TWRP 2.0 is the best option as a recovery for the KF because of its touch interface. 2.0 is not available to the public yet but the team is willing to help get it running on the KF. I have emailed the team and they said they just need devs whom own the device to get on board. I have enough experience to attempt a port and do some testing but not enough experience to do it alone. Anyone interested? Lets go! PM me, post here, and definately stop by the TWRP chat #[email protected] The source for twrp is available via github and there is some info on the twrp website. This seems way more realistic then trying some multi push button Clockwork port

Ditto, I'll contribute monetarily since that's about the only tangible thing I have to give the project...(as opposed to skills, knowledge, etc, etc)
very nice..
I'll toss $50 in the pot on this. Lemme know.
I am not a developer, but have two Fires and both are rooted.
I will be available to test stuff for the developers.

That's awesome JP! I hope you succeed with your port. I'm really looking forward to keeping my Kindle Fire but im scared. I was thinking about returning my KF to get the HTC Flyer. But I like the KF, its built quite nice. So if you need any public testing done, im your guy.
I wish i new about code...is there a youtube vid for learning this stuff?

There are a lot of good people working on this, I have faith that it won't be long
I've put a call out you're anyone in Austin to meet up for an evening, we'll get TWRP2 working. It's currently still closed-source, so only TW members can port the GUI at present. The build tree is kinda a mess, but we've already started the effort. Just need to test and calibrate.

My friend asking for help here is not a problem but coming from the Evo like I did you know that there are ways out of just about anything. Like the poster above said is 100% correct. Instead of sitting here waiting for answers use Google, use the stickies remember what you did prior on your Evo. Now for my part of helping you out, its vol up + power will take you to recovery. Or here's a thought plug it in your pc and use adb.. How about the command adb reboot recovery..
Now to me if you read up on the phone research threads before you went in on it then these trouble shooting tips would be second nature. Sorry if I sound like a **** but too many of us are in here messing with phones and have no clue what to do if we screw up and especially when there are a million HELP ME THREADS....
Good luck and hope it works out for you...

This was my problem you need to hold them at the same time for waaaaay longer than needed on the evo.
Once i got in clockwork it was smooth sailing but there was no way for me to know these subtle differences

Ok Guys Here is the 4-in-1 reboot mod for the MA5 system. This is for dodexed roms.
Note: after flashing you may need to fix permissions for everything to work. just letting you know incase you reboot your phone and your like wtf this doesnt work. Because it does lmao.
DISCLAIMER: Me nor xda are responsible for you flashing this and lets say your phone grows legs leaves you comes back and then you get a cold soar from it.

Credit to sextape for the ma5 leak, also clark44 for the original mod, and heck everyone who owns this phone :silly:

I can't speak for all the xda devs but I have been programming for 12+ years and let me tell you my file structures become a mess in a hurry. I am constantly deleting doubles and triples of files in different directories . One thing that keeps me sane is keeping my code neat and properly formatted.
Good work on this it is always a good learning experience to port mods from scratch but can be a PITA.
Than you for the mod. Very nice work and handy.
File this under "cool story bro", but... have to laugh at myself after installing this. Of course, I want to see what changed, so when I long-pressed to close and saw the few menu items, I was kinda disappointed. Then I hit the Restart option and saw "what the fuss is about". LOL.
At first, I was like "Dude.?!" Then I was all like, "Duuuuuuude". :good:

Submenus are added when powering down. IIRC, the screen used to give options for "Shut Down, Reboot, and something else", along with volume options. Now, when reboot is selected, a second option window pops up and asks which reboot option you want (see attached).

When the ubuntu for tablets comes out on Thursday, will it be possible for Kindle Fire 2 users to flash it just like how cyanogenmod is flashed (TWRP) or the method described here? - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install
I'm guessing not, but worth a try.
Feel free to use this for discussion.
Edit: Turns out Ubuntu mobile is utilising some of cyanogenmod's code - https://plus.google.com/u/0/115049428938715274412/posts/cYtVT2pb9ZT

I think the dual boot might be an issue as you would run out of space on the device. Must agree that Ubuntu tablet looks very cool and makes JB look slightly dated =-O

Actually, I came to this forum after taking a long break from modding specifically to see if anyone had taken a look at the tablet version of Ubuntu along with the Ubuntu phone code released a few days ago. I'm in the process of setting up a machine as my modding environment right now so I can poke around a bit with both as soon as I manage to locate a copy of the tablet os.

Holy crap. This is VERY possible. Canonical uses CM10 as their base for Android, so in theory any dual core device capable of running CM10 can run Ubuntu Touch Preview without much trouble. Tomorrow night, I'll give it a try and see if I can build it using their instructions and your CM-based rom (which is what I am already running on my KF2 anyway)
