Here's the deal, my contact's images are still on my phone in the contacts list and when making calls. But, they are gone from my text messages. I have wiped cache/dalvik, fixed permissions, cleared data from the app, reflashed my rom. Any body hae any other ideas of what might synch the images back up?
what rom are you using?
and have you tried removing/re adding or changing the contact picture and see if it shows up?

I'm on MikG3.11
I haven't done that, most pics are synched from FB and a few are from my gallery but, none are working, its so weird. If I bring up a contact and check our message history from there, everything is right but, if I access the messages from the app drawer or desktop shortcut, no images.
????
try what i suggested, if that dont work i suggest a rom reflash or trying to contact MikG

Mine does that when I fix permissions to fix it go to the file in the pic and select files

then set the permissions back to the way they are below
That should get them working again.

I can confirm that this worked with me on ICS.
Just dont know how to:
1. I can select them all
2. But when I press permissions by long press on the list it just changed the permissions for only the file which was just under my finger. Not to all of them.
So I had to do them one by one...
If anybody can instruct me how to change the permission for the whole selections I would be grateful.

Somewhere between flashing different ROMs, my gallery seems to have broken. I've added some new pictures but they're all broken, too. When you click on one of the (blank) thumbnails, it just says "Thumbnail not available"
Any idea how to fix this? It's like a cache that needs to be rebuilt or something.

it appears that you have deleted the thumbnails but the picture data is there. Check if you can transfer the pictures to your computer.

I can. I took that screenshot on my phone and selected it with Root Explorer (so I could actually see a thumbnail). But even though I created that screenshot AFTER all this happened, it still doesn't have a thumbnail and won't display in the Gallery app.
By the way, I'm running Gummy 0.3.8 with his latest GApps. It worked in the past on Gummy; I honestly can't remember when it broke or what I did to cause it.
it appears your thumbnail data has been moved or deleted. Use root explorer and look around the DCIM folder inside the SD card

Yup, it was there. I tried deleting it, nothing. I ended up deleting all the photos (they're originally from my computer) and tried re-adding them. They still aren't displaying. My G+ albums are displaying just fine, though.
Okay, where is your thumbnail folder located inside DCIM? Is it inside another folder or is it there when you first open DCIM?

/sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails/
Edit: Fixed it! I tried wiping dalvik/cache and reflashing my ROM with no luck. Also tried deleting all the photos, deleting the thumbnail photo, wiping Cache from the Gallery app in Settings > Apps > Gallery, none of it worked.
Here's what worked:
1. Use RootExplorer to navigate to /sdcard/Android/data/
2. Delete com.android.gallery3d and (if it's there) com.google.android.gallery3d.
3. Relaunch the gallery app.
4. ???
5. Profit!
same problem
Not working for me deleted com.google.android.gallery3d with root explorer still no thumbnails. I'm running codename android 1.4. Anymore suggestions?
You have to have a nandroid back up of a ROM with working SMS
Go to titanium backup
Setting
Scroll to "Extract from nandroid"
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click it
Choose the most current backup
Click the icon to the right
The screen will populate with all the apps
Scroll to messaging
Check it
Check app and data
Click the green check mark
When its done, reboot.
Your done and it always works.

I always hate when Google restores contacts. The pictures look like crap. If you use large pics for contacts and want to keep them looking great on the screen. Set all contacts as you like. Do a nandroid. This way you will always have it. When I fash a ROM, before I reboot, I mount the system, go to advance/file manager. Navigate to system/app, delete the Google contact sync apk. You can also freeze the google sync in tbu, if you dont want to delete it. This will stop Google from screwing with the pics. Then just reboot. I do this and don't really care that gmail doesn't have my contacts. There are other ways to do that. As long as you know what your doing in that file manager, you can delete all kinds of not needed crap. I myself delete all the ringtones before rebooting after flashing.
You most mount the system to get into the system stuff.
I also restore my contacts this way.
Follow the same steps as above except
Check the "contact storage" box
Click "data only"
Clicking app and data may cause a contact fc if going from different ROMs
Click the green check
Reboot when its done
If you choose to not delete the Google sync. Freeze it in tbu. Delete all contacts and do steps above in tbu.
Again make sure you have a good nandroid first.

If it helps you hit his thanks button.
Or you have the settings under developer checked for showing all processes.
Okay after looking at your screenshots its not what I thought at all ha this is a good one glad you have it under warranty still but I think a new rom would fix it.
I'll be back in a flash

Btw, how do I go to /efs/imei/keystr ??
The instructions in the other thread says to do following:
"You have to go into /efs/imei/keystr
and delete keystr and make a new file called keystr and use text editor in root explorer to type ON in it and reboot."
Edit: My phone is not rooted at all.. And i wasn't messing around with it either when the screen showed up!
I installed a file explorer.. I see folder efs but when I go into that, no imei or any other folder shows up.. it's blank!
Please help!

You need a root file explorer(I use es file explorer). Go into settings and enable r/w options. Then you should be able to find the efs directory.
Edit: so I saw your post in the other thread that says you aren't rooted. The only other way that I know to get rid of the text is to flash a different ROM.
I contacted Samsung and the guy on phone did not understand what I was saying! LOL.. Anyways, they asked me to send it back.. so, lets see what they do.. btw.. anyone know how fast is the samsung warranty centre?
I wish they did like Google, replace the phone.. No repairs!
If you want to have the Google Dialer on your G3, you can easily do it once you are rooted.

WARNING: Make a nandroid backup in TWRP before you start modifying your /system partition. If you screw anything up, you can go back to a known good state.
Get the latest 1.1 Google Dialer APK from here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...-4-3-works-on-android-4-4-2-too-apk-download/
Follow the instructions over on Android Police, but make sure you remount the system partition as read-write before trying to copy the file into /system/priv-app: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...n-doesnt-show-up-in-my-app-tray-what-can-i-do
Here's the short version:
Remount your /system partition read-write
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system /system
Copy the apk to /system/priv-app
chmod 644
reboot
In order to launch the dialer, you need to create a shortcut. I have Nova, so it's pretty easy to do there. Create new shortcut, activities, Google Dialer, and pick the first Phone entry (check out the link above for screen shots on how to do this).
You will be able to use the Dialer to make calls (look up businesses or use your contacts), but once you select a number to dial, it will use the stock dialer. Incoming calls will also be handled by the stock dialer, so we lose on the ability to use Google's Caller ID for now.
Sweet! Thanks. I am using the stock launcher and it created the stock icon for me.

Nice! I stopped using the Google dialer as my main dialer because I ran into some odd issues, like the keypad disappearing. I still have it installed to see missed calls and find out who the caller was if they're not on my address book. It's also great for finding places to call.

Yo guys, I've got a situation here.
So I was using the tablet of my mum, and when I tried to install a navigation app for her, it said that I don't have enough space left. Well I checked and found that:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
can any of you guys tell why the heck gallery takes up 8,37 gb?! my mum never ever does any photos with this tablet...
Not sure exactly why it's that big but did you look into the "App info" screen & try to clear data?
I've kinda experienced this on another device but nowhere near that much was being used, turned out it was a temp thumbnail cache file, it just grew bigger & bigger, over 1GB at one time, still have to keep clearing/deleting it every so often.

provided you have root and custom recovery AND your rom is de-odexed
pull the gallery.apk from system and store it on your sdcard, then delete the original.
then go jnto dcim/.thumbnails and clear it. then goto app settings and clear data.
then reboot to recovery and wipe caches. then reboot. then drop gallery apk back into
system, the reset permissions on gallery.apk to 644 then reboot.
now recheck.

K the problem is that this tablet is not mine, it's from my mum, and she doesn't want to root /unlock it because it still got warrenty
with root, i wouldn't be a great problem for me to reset that
I have faced this problem multiple times, this is how i resolved it.
There are two .thumbnails folders
1.) Sdcard
2.) dcim\.thumbnails
Enable hidden files in My Files or ex explorer settings and delete these directories
And using es explorer create a file .thumbnails where the directory used to be
This will ensure that the .thumbnails directory is never created as there is already a file with the same name there.
The dcim/.thumnails is for the gallery
The sdcard/.thumbnails is for the video player
Note: in kitkat use Mx player as the stock video player seems to crash if you create a file at sdcard/.thumbnails
