Hi guys
After a while I decided to finally root my desire z. I did that, by unlocking it with the official HTC Dev Tool and gained root with the HTC Super Tool v3. I checked for root and it is rooted(Root Checker and ADB). I also installed the latest CWM and did a successful recovery image. Now I want to install CM 7.1 but it's not working. I can't flash the rom! CWM Recovery does install it but when I start it I get stuck on the HTC logo. I tried it multiple times, through rom manager, recovery install from zip and even with fastboot. Funny is, when I do it with fastboot, there is no progress bar on the bootloader and after sending and writing i get the FAILED message(remote 24: failed parsing info). But I still get stuck on the HTC logo for hours. In Hboot ist says unlocked and I have root access. I didn't install Hboot-eng and did no s-off because it is unnecessary if you unlock it with the HTC Dev Tool, right?
Can you please help me? I don't know what to do else...
Thank you for your help
Have a look at my guide regarding this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453066

Hi, thx for the fast reply.
So in what order do I have to do this?
Unlock with HTC Dev and follow the rest of your guide?
Or temp root-> downgrade-> temp root-> perm root-> recovery and flash? No HTC Dev at all?
From what I understand, you've already used htcdev. so you just need to flash the rom.zip, then rip the boot.img out of it and 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'
Though I would recommend relocking the bootloader, and get proper s-off, which would be the 'Or temp root-> downgrade-> temp root-> perm root-> recovery and flash' process

Any chance to do that? I`m stuck in custom rom and no chance to flash any of stock ROM`s because of hoot version... Same thing with fastboot.. No chance to flash hoot .nb0 from fast boot.. Thanks in advance
Have you tried using revolutionary?
Or the HTCdev Unlock Tool?
Yes, revolutionary does not support this version of hoot...
And boot loader is unlocked by htcdev site, but that is a problem now for me..
Do you have clockworkmod recovery?
Yes, CWM flashed from fastboot? Is there a way to flash hboot from CWM or..?
What happens when you try flashing a rom from CWM or wiping?
Signature error if i try rom with hboot.img in .zip... I only could flash a rom without hboot.. But my aim is to downgrade hboot...
You can't just flash any .zip file randomly. Especially if it's something as sensitive as the bootloader.
And try flashing a rom in CWM, you might not need to downgrade.
Naturally, I understand that and I understand well how should i have flash.. When i wrote zip rom without hboot i meant Buzz_Froyo_hTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_SAFE_FLASH_ZIP...
I want to downgrade hboot version to be able to use revolutionary instead of htcdev unlocked boot loader, understand me? Mentioned Froyo ROM does`t have hboot image in archive, and that`s why is safe...
I'm not sure if the HTCDev bootloader can even be unlocked.
But don't take my word for it...
I just hope you're wrong.. I hope that team mate from revolutionary have some idea in the future days...
Actualy, after looking at the RUU you were trying to flash. It's "safe". You could try using a "non-safe" one.

Are you trying to flash an ruu Rom.zip from recovery?

@nejc121
Give me the link of "non-safe" to try?
@Scratch0805
Yes, i tried just that, but with no luck...
It can't be done like that, I think the images need unpacking first, if you look inside a custom Rom and compare it to your Rom.zip you'll see the difference.
I don't think you can use PC49IMG after unlocking with HTC dev either so your only option is fastboot and after I read the warning about not going back after using the tool it wouldn't surprise me if they locked it so it can't be flashed with fastboot either.

Every section of Stock ROM i could flash with fastboot, except hboot which is my highest goal... You are right, i can`t use PC49IMG.zip anymore...

Hi guys,
first of all... forgive my english.
Please help me to get S-OFF on my buzz with hboot 1.02.0000 UNLOCKED (Unlocked by HTC DEV SITE guide)
I've got CWM on my wildfire, and used gingerbreak to get superuser privileges, but CWM recovery mode doesen't work anyway, when i try to boot my buzz in CWM Recovery Mode, appears a RED Triangle with an "!" and I can't do anything but if i press Vol UP and Power Button, appears a menu with:
- reboot
- update with update.zip
- wipe cache
- wipe data factory/cache
I've tried all of these options, but it doesen't work.
I've tried with revolutionary, but it doesen't work, when i start the .exe file, it says
"buzz, with hboot 1.02.0000 is not supported at this time"
I think my issue is because of I didn't get S-OFF on Hboot 1.02.0000 .

when the bootloader is unlocked using the HTCdev method ,there is no s-off required.. BTW try flashing the cwm recovery again using the fastboot method becoz the options you mentioned seem incomplete..maybe after doing this you may get "install zip from sd" option in cwm recovery so that you can flash custom roms..
Alternative: You can rename the custom rom to update.zip and put directly on sd (not in any folder) and choose "update with update.zip" option which you already have in cwm recovery.

Thanks so much, but...
- my CWM recovery mode doesen't work
- i've already tried to rename my rom in "update.zip", but it says "firmware invalid"
- is there another way to flash a ROM???
Hi.
While back I ran Revolutionary tool to S-off and root + CWM recovery.
Recently I ran official 2.3 RUU and used stock ROM. Now I want to try ICS, but I don't have CWM anymore. Revolutionary hboot and S-off is still ok. Tried running Revolutionary tool again, but it says I'm already S-off and tries to install CWM, but fails. Tried to install CWM manually through fastboot, but it hangs on sending file. I can still see the device with "fastboot devices".
Since I used a RUU, I don't have root access anymore.
Any idea on how to flash CWM?
IF u are still s-off u can flash a new recovery, click 4ext recovery on my sig, download and install the 4ext recovery updater app then flash recovery. to get root just flash superuser zip file

How can that help me, when I don't have root access? The superuser apk itself does no good without root access. The 4EXT app need busybox, and busybox needs root.
This is the situation:
I want a custom recovery. But for that, I need root. And to get root, I need a custom recovery. It is an evil circle! But since I have Revolutionary hboot and S-OFF, there must be some way I can get a custom recovery.

The first step:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/
Download recovery image and flash it via fastboot, or using some flasher.
Then like you did before flash Superuser .zip:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
After that you'll have root access and you can flash 4ext recovery as well.

I quote myself from my initial post:
"Tried to install CWM manually through fastboot, but it hangs on sending file. I can still see the device with "fastboot devices"."
So that don't work for me, sorry. Seems I can't write to recovery partition. Didn't work with the Revolutionary tool either. The only thing I can think of, that could work, is if the Revolutionary tool could see the device as untouched by the tool, and start the process from the beginning.
Did you try with erase recovery command, and then flash recovery?
If that doesn't work, 2.3 RUU and start from scratch.

Seems to hang on erase command too. Screenshot:
I'll try to do another RUU.
I managed to flash CWM! Just had to change computers. Weird, since my Windows is fairly fresh and had all the right drivers.
Hello! I need your help guys!
I was running a stock device and tried to install the new Maximus Rom. I followed the video tutorial step by step, I manage to unlock via HTC Dev, root, flash recovery, install SU, relock, flash Hboot 1.23, and when I tried to re-unlock, Win Cmd gives me access denied. What can I doo?
I need help!
Hey, why did u re-lock? You just leave it unlocked otherwise no custom ROMs
Correct me if I'm wrong, but re-lock only necessary to update h-boot with RUU...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
First of all thanks for the answer. That is how they explained in the tutorial, I just followed it. Apparently to flash the new hboot, the 1.23, you need to be re-locked.
Now you have to do it all over from step one , unlock through htcdev install cwm install custom room etc.
Because when you re lock then youre back to stock recovery and stock sense rom, considering that you have run ruu.

The thing is that I haven't managed to install the rom, just to change the Hboot. I tried to run the whole unlock through HTC Dev I get the same error, the phone should be rooted with custom recovery flashed, just with the bootloader locked. The phone won't boot theold rom due to the hboot change.
I've rooted this HTC Desire HD w/ the Ace Hack Kit. I have CWM installed.
BUT, the bootloader is set to S-ON. How can I turn it to S-OFF?? I can't fastboot flash boot boot.img since no remote is allowed due to S-ON.
Yet, I need to do this to get the phone to boot into a new custom ROM!
Is there a CWM flashable file I can use to do this?
Need some pointers.
NM. A bit more digging and I figured it out.
Needed to use the HDH HBoot Updater by Behtash and then use HTCDev's bootloader unlock.
Flashed the boot.img from my custom rom, then flashed the custom rom from CWM.
All is well But man was I in a pickle for a bit.
If you didn't end up with S-OFF after the AAHK method, it didn't run completely. It either simply downgraded your phone or had an error. Anyway, glad you ended up getting the HTCDEV method to work.
My Desire was rooted before with a custom ROM. I've flashed back the original firmware, therefore the root was gone.
I followed the tutorial at this thread but I get stuck when I want to boot into recovery. The standard holding power and volume down procedure didn't work so I used ADB to boot into recovery. My device rebooted, but I get the red triangle and after that the 'Can't open /cache/recovery/command' error. I found out this means that the recovery isn't proparly installed.
When I use ADB to flash clockworkmod recovery Ithe message '< waiting for device >' remain standing. My Desire is in the HTC Sync modus, I see My HTC in windows device manager.
What is the next step to take? I've bricked an tablet before so I want to do the right thing.
Are you s-off? Also you use fastboot to flash the recovery, not adb.

Good point, I was forgotten all about s-off and on, it was a long time ago that I rooted my Desire.
I think I am not, beacause flashing the ROM of HTC also gives me a non-rooted phone. I'll check it this evening. Is using the tool from htcdev.com/bootloader the best way to become s-off?

No that will unlock your bootloader, not give you s off. Use revolutionary.
I found out I'm s-off, after I flashed clockworkmod recovery I used unrevoked to root. The rooting didn't succeed, I get the message 'failed to get root. Is your firmware to new?
I was on RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release, I have flashed an older stock ROM from the list on this page (1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984), and will try it again.
I'll let you know what the results are.

After you flashed recovery, there was no need to use unrevoked. All you had to do was boot into recovery and flash superuser.zip file. That would have rooted your existing rom.
However, what is your ultimate aim? If you want a ROM, you can simply flash the optimal hboot for the ROM (optional but recommended), boot into recovery, full wipe and flash the rom. The ROM will already be pre-rooted.

You're completly right, I was somewhatconfused, it has been a while since I last flashed a ROM, I was to much happy with Oxy ZM. :silly:
Everything is ok now, I've flashed succesfully. Thanks.
