[Q] Downgrade from ICS - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a nandroid backup of the .42 gb rom and im currently on stock ICS.
When i restore the .42 rom i cant start my wifi, as the kernal remains of ICS.
I have a locked bootloader, Arc S.
Can I just flash the kernal after restoring .42?
And can someone plz explain how i do this?
And if i need just a kernal file can someone plz gimme the link for it?
Thanx...

Use "repair phone" in PC Companion, it'll remove everything and flash rom, correct kernel etc.

Pc companion is not detecting my phone when i restore .42

Most stock roms are here
Usually the resources for ARC/ARC S are in the "Xperia Arc General" Section

And from unlocked bootloader? Can do directly with FlashTool or first I have to flash the Stock Kernel?

Downgrade from nandroid
Hi,
I have a xperia neo....with rooted stock firmware .62 and unlocked bootloader (testpoint method)...I have taken a nandroid backup of it
I just wanted to try out ics...so planning to update using PCcompanion
Before updating...i just want to know
1. whether it's possible to downgrade to gb through cwm nandroid restore? Do I need to flash the kernel for .62 after the nandroid restore ?
2. will root access be restored after the downgrade? Since .62 is cannot be rooted, I'll have to flash .42 to get root access
I don't want to start restoring all the installed apps...hence thinking of using nandroid backup against flashtool

and sorry for ask alot
Solved
1. Unlock the Bootloader
2. Install Doomlord Stock Kernel 1.6 ( Pre rooted)
3. Install .62 stock Kernel from .ftf file (Root remains from Doomlord Stock Plus Kernel 1.6 even after installing .62 Rom kernel agian)
4. Re-lock the bootloader with the help of Flashtool.
5. You have Stock ROM rooted and with locked bootloader.
....Worked like Charm for me on my Arc s (LT18i, .62 ROM)
thanks
so what is the differnt between .62 and .42
btw i root my .42
All the Rooting Exploits don't work on .62 ROM as of now......Hence either you need to follow the trick I have mentioned or else roll back to .42........However there is no significance difference between .62 and .42................I am waiting for Official ICS
There's a better memory management according to people here

iam trying to root my device xperia arc s with stock rom xxxxxxxxx42
i managed to root it once before but when i flashed a new rom (same stock xxxxxxxxx62) i cant seem to root it (tried with both versions ) iam doing evrything right and its not a drivers issue it keep saying "failed" for evrything ( am rooting using doomlord's root tool v4 )
what could be the problem??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks in advance
What's the output of dooms .bat? I'm guessing you have a locked bootloader?

0.62 fw wasn't rootable when i had it. Just flash back with flashtool or wotan to 0.42 fw root with doomlords pack. Update again and it is rooted.
You can only get root on .42 with doomlords easy root.
Re flash .42 with flashtools get root, if bootloader is locked then update over the air to .62 root will remain.
DO NOT UPDATE OVER THE AIR IF BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED YOU WILL BRICK THE PHONE.

[Q] From ICS to GB

Hi, I intend to go back to my stock GB from stock ICS. I have currently rooted my ICS, do I install CWM on ICS and do a restore back to GB, or flash it back to GB first, install CWM and then restore? I have a locked bootloader. Thanks in advance.
If it was me (and I've done this a few times) I'd reflash GB using Flashtool and wipe everything. Backup your apps/data first using Titanium.
Make sure you use the .42 GB release though if you want root afterwards! You'll need to root using zergrush and you can install pvyparts CWM app from Google Play.
You could also try using Wotan instead of Flashtool if you have €2 spare. It's a simple enough process.
Hi, thanks for the reply. Do you have the link to the thread with .42 FTFs? I'm not too sure which to get.
Is this version rootable using Flashtool? (4.0.1.A.0.283) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291517

Flashtool problem when degrading from ICS to GB!

I m on Mooded 90.4 using base .431 firmware!
I think of moving from ICS to Stock GB .62 firmware but when i flash the .62 firmware using flashtool, i get an error saying that flashing has been canceled and when i select the firmware in the flash mode section, nothing shows up on the right ! (for eg. Exclude kernel, baseband like that all the options are unavailable)
But when i flash any other ICS ftf file it flashes properly!
Is the prob is with flashtool?
I m using the latest version of flashtool!
Note: The .62 ftf file is not corrupted, it worked with previous versions of flashtool(eg. with 0.7.0 one)
Gb ftf needs flashtool 0.6.9. /0.7.0
Ics needs 0.8.0 /0.8.5
So downgrade flashtool to flash Gb ftf

the .62 firmware cannot be rooted hence i wuld any day suggest ou to flash a rom . while on he other hand, acronium is a excellent rom and is very battery efficient
@link-in,
He's got an unlocked bootloader. Rooting the .62 isn't going to be an issue.

[Q] Revert to stock ROM

Hi to all senior XDA.
I'm using rooted r800i GB 2.3.4, stock ROM with locked bootloader.
If I flash a custom ROM on my phone, may I revert back to my stock ROM?
I've already made a CWM backup.
Yes you can revert back by restoring your backup or flashing the stock ftf with flashtool. Make sure you only flash gb roms because other versions need an unlocked bootloader or youll have lots of problems
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
Thanks for the advice... :good: I will bear it in my mind...
