What can I do with this mass storage ?

Can you post the steps you used to put the phone in that mode? There are a number of HTC bootloader modes that we already know about, but that one's new to me.

There are a number of ways to get this to work. Search the threads this is a common question. Without knowing which ICS leak you used it's hard to say. Best bet would be to use sfhub's autoroot package>Extra Options and USB storage can be enabled there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 Or you can check out this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514665&highlight=usb+mtp
If you use Option E in the Auto Root package, you can switch between MTP and USB Mass Storage modes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
If you look in the reference section of the FD16 OneClick thread, you can also find a more detailed post that includes a link to an app to change between the two modes.

Thanks...^^^ does anyone recall which was the last leaked build that had both mtp and mass storage support?

They all have both. They just removed the UI to enable USB Mass Storage mode in the settings menu on the more recent builds. The default has always been MTP, even on GB. However on GB if you enable USB Debugging, it turns off MTP and enables USB Mass Storage. It doesn't do that on ICS.
Look through the FAQs on the ODIN OneClick threads for the most recent ICS ROMs. From the first release they removed the UI, there is an FAQ entry to turn on USB Mass Storage. Prior to that release, there was no FAQ entry and the UI was still builtin.
I think it was one of the last FC releases or one of the earlier FD releases where the UI went away.

[Q] Synch manager only synching phone storage

Hi Forum members,
I have a HTC One X with JB. Since the latest Synch Manager (SM) I am not able to synch anything other than Phone Storage. This is because SM doesn't see anything else. At the same time in Explorer I have a folder Internal Storage. This is the folder I also want to synch (partly). So now I can't synch music and pictures, because they are on the Internal Storage.
Anybody has any ideas how to resolve this?
Furthermore before JB I could choose what to do when I connected to my PC: only charge; use as HD; synchronize; tethering and another option. Now I don't have that possibility and tapping "USB connected" on the 'drop down' list only gives the option to change settings for tethering.
Ones again: anybody has any ideas how to resolve this?
Greetings,
Zooi
Did you update SM to the latest version ?
Yes, I have version 1.1.65.0 and the program tells me I have the latest version.
Uninstall and reinstall maybe ? Or you could mount the device in Recovery Mode so it appears as USB Mass Storage instead of MTP
After uninstalling I downloaded the latest version from the HTC website. This appeared a new version: 1.1.66.0!
Now the SM not even detects the phone :crying:, let alone finds the Phone storage or the Internal storage. So nothing is synched and I still cannot change the mode on my phone from "Charge only" (I think, for I can't see in what way the phone is connected to the PC) to "Synchronize".
I also switched the phone off and back on again, but it changed nothing.
In "My Computer" I can see the phone, but only the Internal Storage. Where is the Phone Storage?
So I'm still not able to synch the phone in the SM program. Suggestions anybody?

No idea on your first question, but the above behaviour is normal. In Android 4.1 (and above) MTP is used to connect to the device rather than mounting it as USB storage. The only way to connect it as a mounted USB storage device is to do it in recovery (as someone already suggested).
But the recovery mode can only be accessed through a rooted device? Mine isn't rooted.

Yes, sorry. Assumed since you were posting on here you'd be rooted.
Anyway, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34660458
Still uses MTP but reading the thread it sounds like it'll let you access internal storage. I've not tried it since I'm not on Windows anyway, but might be worth a shot.
Same here sync manager does not work on mine. However, windows media player work fine.
I just install the sync manager for the driver.

Thank you all so far for trying to help. Nothing worked, so I still can't access the phone storage and SM doesn't synch other files than music and pictures.I guess I have to manually copy files from internal storage to my PC.

Internet pass through don't work
Internet pass through don't work !
I can sync music between my PC with HOX, but no internet pass through via usb cable!
I have v. 1.1.66.0 Sync manger installed on my PC!
Any solution? Thanks!

[Q] HTC One X not seen as disk after JB 4.1 OTA

Hi,
I have a rooted One X on which I was running Team Venom viperX rom and few days ago I recovered the stock nand backup (original ICS rom) and then updated my HOX with the JB 4.1 OTA that was released few time ago... now, when I connect the phone to my mac, it is not seen anymore as a disk and it doesn't ask me if I wan to simply charge or mount as a disk... on windows I noticed that it doesn't ask too, but is used as a disk by default (allowing me to see sdcard content both on windows and on the phone with a file manager, which I find very strange..)...
Any idea about how to re-enable the feature that asked me to mount or not to mount the phone as a disk? It only shows me a disc with a link to HTC Sync download page and even after installing it on my MAC, nothing changed.
Any suggestion would be really appreciated!

Tech support said it should be automatically detected by the PC, but this is not true at least on OSX platforms:
Code:
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With regards to your inquiry, kindly be informed that on android 4.1 the option to
choose what kind of connection you want between your PC and the phone has been
removed. This software support "Plug and Play" connection witch allows all those
options without being necessary to choose an option from phone's screen.
If you have any other inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact us again.
This is my reply:
Code:
Hi, I understand that the option has been removed, but it is not true that it
works automatically, expecially on OSX platforms (like my MacBook pro).
So, you removed a useful feature for people like me that used to connect their
phones to a Mac laptop and this is not correct. I'd like to be able to choose
if I want to mount the storage or not when I connect the phone to my MacBook Pro.
They should definitely re-introduce the option to choose to mount or not to mount the storage as an external disk.
HTC:
Code:
If your connection is not done after update i suggest you to install on your PC
"HTC Sync manager" and "Android file Transfer (AFT)". when you done you
should be able to connect your phone to PC.
My reply:
Code:
Thank you for the quick reply. I'll try android file transfer, but this is not the
correct way of accomplishing this task. Before the upgrade I could mount
the phone as a disk, and this was one of the features that made me choose
this phone comparing to other ones, so it is not correct to remove such a
feature with a software upgrade. Even if HTC Sync Manager + Android File
Transfer solve this issue, I should install them on every platform on which I
connect the phone, such as my work laptop, and I'm simply not allowed to
install additional software. Is there any plan to re-introduce the possibility to
choose to mount or not to mount the storage as a disk?
HTC:
Code:
I am just give you the options for now, I am sure that our engineers will
come with an update for this connection.
The JB update enables Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) and disables the USB Mass Storage (UMS). One advantage of this is that both the phone and the computer can access the memory simultaneously. MTP has its pros and cons, but many newer phones have it, like the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S2 also had this enabled in its ICS update. Maybe in time the devs will find a way to reactivate UMS mode and probably even toggle between UMS and MTP, but I don't think anything of the sort is available now as JB is freshly out. One of the main cons of MTP is flaky compatibility on Linux and OSX.

I am getting the same problem and tbh it is really pissing me off. Sometimes my windows 7 finds it, I start to transfer a file and then boom, connection goes. Previously I could just mount and be on my merry way. Totally unimpressed. If I had known this I would never have updated!
They say to do download HTC Sync Manager, why is it 107mb?!? I would expect it to be some sort of lightweight app but now, 107mb

Connect phone to Mac / enable USB mode???

How do I connect my Sony Xperia Z1 compact to a mac? Back in my android days an Android phone could be simply used like an USB flash drive. You plug it in no matter what system and it will get recognized. I know you could toggle between USB mode and some other fancy mode. Now each time I connect my Xperia to my Mac I get „connected to PC- MTP Media Transfer Mode“ (shouldn’t it be MTM- I suppose the P might stand for protocol…never mind) but the phone won’t show up on the Mac under storage. I’ve already enabled USB Debugging under Developer Options because I assumed that would do the trick - nope.
So how can I use my android phone like a normal USB flash drive? I do NOT want to install Sony’s silly itunes rip off software.

That's what I've been looking for BUT
"Only SD Card supported in mass storage mode. Internal storage not available in this mode. Continue?"
WHY????! This renders it pointless since I don't have any SD Card. Is this a Sony thing only or do all Android phones roll like this nowadys? Also I still don't understand WHY i can not access the internal storage? Why does everything have to be so complicated. Isn't there some hack or something to still access it?
So yeh I've set it to Mass Storage, connected it to my MAC and of course nothing shows up. Sigh. This simply isn't any fun at all.

Yeah - the hack is to hack that Mac into little pieces with an axe. LOL. Just kidding. I wonder if newer versions of OSX can recognize MTP? If so, are you able to update your Mac? Or, if you cannot... how about using bootcamp (or whatever the latest method is), install WinXP/7 or something on the mac and you will have the choice to boot into either windows or OSX whenever you turn it on.

Ah I'm sorry mate, I can't really think of a solution apart from giving Sony Bridge for Mac a go. You can drag and drop into internal storage. You don't need to import or sync media.
Dual booting with Windows is an option (the windows program is way better than the mac program) You can virtualise (VMbox is free) or just dual boot. Again it's a pretty drastic step to take in order to do something as simple as access internal storage! I personally have Arch Linux and OS X.
The Sony Bridge for mac has improved a lot. You don't need to do any syncing or anything, you can just drag and drop as if it is mounted like an external disk.

[Updated] How do you enable UMS for file transfers on Sense 7?

**UPDATE**
"Sad to be the one to tell you this, but Google, in their infinite wisdom, has done away with USB Mass Storage in Android, for good."
***********************************************************************************
[Q] How do you enable UMS for extsd file transfers on Sense 7?
Unable to find the UMS option when connecting via USB to my PC, was this feature taken away in sense 7? If not how do I enable it?
Thanks to those who reply.
USB Mass Storage was done away with in Android years ago, maybe in Jellybean (?). It can't be enabled in the stock setup. I think I saw on an older Viper ROM build that you can do USB Mass Storage. But not sure if that's still the case.
It was definitely still available for use on Lollipop and sense 6 before the update to MM and sense 7 on my Sprint M8 HK, I switched to it all the time to edit mp3 tags on my ext sd. After the update, MTP and PTP were the only options to transfer files or pics.
