I have recently discovered unique ROM's for my htc desire however I am very worried about rooting and want to make sure that I have the specific RUU for my device. I've searched a lot and cannot find sufficient information to solidify my choice of RUU and would hate to brick my phone.
Would somebody be able to help me find the RUU for my phone if I provide the specific information?
Andriod version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c
Build Number: 2029.771.3 CL345089
Software number: 2.29.771.3
Display: SLCD
Sorry that I'm being so specific but I read if it isn't the exact original RUU then it could brick my phone
EDIT: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Telstra_WWE_2.26.841.2_Radio_32.48 .00.32U_5.11.05.14_release_150162_signed.exe
Thats the one I found originally, but it says 2.26.841.2, whereas my phone says its build number is 2.29.771.3
Doesn't matter. Just make a goldcard before you do anything an you can use whatever RUU you want.
I haven't got a microsd card adapter for my PC so cant make a gold card :/

You don't need one.
"2. YOU WILL NEED AN SD ADAPTER! This can be a MicroSD to USB that allows you to plug the SD card into your computer’s USB port OR a MicroSD to SD adapter if you have a SD port on your computer."

My bad, forgot about that, I only remembered the part of plugging your phone in and getting the CID that way.
Well, if you want a goldcard I suggest you get one lol.....
Bump, can noone find the corrct RUU for me?
Mate it doesn't matter what software number it is, as long as it's for your network. Also, if you're still anal about that you can just use the 2.3 RUU which you can find on my guide, which will still honour HTC warranty.
Also you can make a goldcard any time you want, so if you need a RUU but magically can't find one.. I'm sure you'd be able to get an adapter.

Hey guys, new to android and have a Gold Card question. Ive searched but can't seem to find an answer. (Maybe i just havnt tried enough.) Anyways here it is:
When you create a goldcard do you have it in your phone the entire time or do you just plug in the card alone to the computer without the phone? Might be a stupid question...but anyway. Thanks for an answer.
I flash with the gold card and then put my regular card in after I shutdown once the flash is complete.
borgen92, i guess, you was searching for that one.....

I have another question.. What is gold card at all? I really don't have any idea about what you are talking about
I'm used to wm and its language (hspl, etc...), now I'm trying to understand android world and customize my brand new desire.
Thank you
as i understood, you have to write a special MBR (or similar) to your SDCard. That will then allow you to flash a ROM with a different CID, and it will also make it possible to recover a bricked device.

I attempted to manually update to Froyo on a rooted (came to me that way) HTC Desire.
I used the manual method described at geekword.net (google for it, I can't post links)
Unfortunately, I didn't know I was meant to use a gold card for the update.
So what I ended up with is a failed Froyo update, after the post-update reboot, the progress count will never get to 100%, as the phone goes into a reboot loop.
This wouldn't be an issue if I could reattempt the update with a gold card - unfortunately, in its current state the phone can't even see the sd card for whatever reason - the card isn't corrupt as I can continue to run the update.zip file from it - not that it helps.
With the phone connected to the PC, I don't have option to mount as disk drive. I can get the CID using Klutsh's Gold Card tool, but because I can't mount the phone, I can't copy the gold card image over.
Is there anyway to get the image over to the sd card and complete the gold card creation without going via the phone?
I dont really know for sure what the answer is to your problem mate but in the hope of getting this thread started I would be looking to download the original branded ROM and restore it through the bootloader menu so that you can start over. This may or may not work but its what I would be researching first.
When i made my gold card, i had the MicroSD in the phone to get the CID, but then i wrote the image to it using a MircoSD-to-SD adapter, just using the built in SD card reader on my laptop. Hope this helps.

jamesmcuk > I tried a stock Telstra rom (this is an Aus phone) found online, it came back with something along the lines of 'wrong bootloader version'. I have a feeling that bootloader for the phone was upgraded either during the first root (by the previous owner) or upgraded when I updated to Froyo.
Are there any official rollback methods for failed Froyo updates?
JPDyno > Could you please outline the procedure used to copy the image over to the micro SD? I have a goldcard.img file from the procedure that I've performed to date. Do I copy the img file over using a imageburner? Do I need to partition the sd card or anything? Kinda lost as to the steps since I thought the Klutsh tool would take care of the copying for me - but it needed connection to the phone.
Thank you both for your replies, hopefully I don't have a fancy brick on my hands
Your phone should have come with a MicroSD card adapter, which looks like a normal sized SD Card, with a slot at the back to insert your microSD into. So you take out your MicroSD card from the phone, slide it into the small slot on the adapter, and slide the adapter into your SD Card reader slot on your laptop/desktop. If you dont have an SD Card reader slot you'll need to get a USB SD or microSD card reader. Once you plug it in it'll automatically detect the card as a disk drive in My Computer. Then you can follow the steps in the Goldcard Guide (install and run the Hex Editor...open the disk drive and the img in the Hex editor and copy stuff over...yada yada...)
Just out of interest does it still do a constant reboot if you remove either or both the SIM and the SD Card.
Also I found this guide for restoring the Nexus 1 which being so similar should contain some good info although you will need to find the ROM for the desire rather than the ones they post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
Yay, got it working!
Thanks for the prompt replies guys.
I followed the suggestions here (in using the sd card reader on my laptop), and used the steps starting with HxD from:
android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard
I managed to get a goldcard, and successfully updated to froyo!
p.s. the phone reboots even without a sim card - never tried without the sd card though - I needed it since the update.zip was from the sd.
Now onto exploring Froyo!
For all of those still wishing to make a goldcard sans phone, you can also find it here

Get CID
At first I could not get the CID as well. The problem was, that I was in Fastboot mode. After changing into Recovery mode, I was able to use "adb shell" and then cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid to get my CID.
So now you can start to make your own Goldcard.
My HTC Desire came with Vodafone Android 2.1 and I wanted to apply a generic HTC ROM so I went through the manual process of creating a goldcard on a spare 1GB SD Card. However, I have since discovered that you need to have the Goldcard inserted whenever you want to apply any OTA updates - I had one minor update which broke WiFi when I applied it without the Goldcard inserted, and the phone went into a reboot loop when I tried to apply 2.2 without the Goldcard inserted. Now, rather than keep switching between the 4GB SD card I have and the 1GB Goldcard whenever an OTA update is available, I would like to turn my 4Gb card into a Gold card.
However....
I have noticed the CID is different now that I am running 2.2 compared to when i originally created it when I was running 2.1.
Q1) Is it normal for the CID to change?
Q2) Is my old 1GB GoldCard no longer useful for any 2.2 hotfixes and updates from here on?
Q3) Will the new Goldcard work even though its created with a new CID?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
The CID # comes from your SD card - different SD cards have different CIDs.

Dave

CID stands for carrier ID, its there to denote the diffrence between branded phones and factory unlocked phones what exactly does it have to do with a sd card im confused lol
There are two kinds of CID. There is the CID on your phone, which determines which brand of phone you have - this is irrelevant here. Then there is the CID on your sdcard, this is the card's serial number, and this is what you use to create a goldcard.

Indeed! We should more properly refer to the SD card CID, as the CID Register - where CID is the "Card ID".
It is quite different from the CID on the phone, which is the Carrier ID responsible for locking your ROM (note, not SIM) to a particular carrier.
Of course, it's not helped that in order to bypass the phone CID, you need to create a gold card which involves manipulating the SD card CID!

Hello all.
I am stupid I know. But I installed the evil nxsense HD v.0.9 on my HTC desire, didn't know it was for nexus.
So now my phone is *Edit*, I can only enter the Hboot and recovery menu, but cant restore my backup. I can also mount to usb so I can connect it to my computer.
Is there any hope, and what can i do?????
Drmalle
Boot into fastboot and flash an oficial ruu...u will need to re-root after that.
Thanks cris you just gave me hope
How will I know which ruuu rom to use, I google it, and found ALOT.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667[/url]
found some here, any of them?
Does anyone know where to get the official htc desire ruu rom in zip. I can only find RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed, and that can only work if your phone is alive..
I need the rom you can flash in recovery???
Drmalle
Boot into fastboot on phone. Run ruu on windows (with phone attached to USB)
OR
Download this:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
Rename it PB99IMG and copy it to your sd card. Then just boot the phone into HBOOT (turn on whilst holding volume down) and follow the instructions
I ran the RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE in windows, and now the phone works.
So thank you everybody who helped.
BUT it cant find the sd card now, it says insert sd card. how do i fix that?
Drmalle
Take it out of the phone, format it in Windows (assuming you have a card reader and a micro to SD card adapter), put it back in phone and see if it works.
If not, it may be corrupt
Well i don't have that, can i just buy a new one and insert? or is there and other way.
Buying a new one is the quick way, but then again you could just buy/borrow a micro sd to sd adapter and use a PC with a card reader in it...
Ok thanks, im on my to my Friend
Who has a card reader, so hope it will work
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
hi all,
I got a HTC Desire HD from vodafone with hboot 0.85.0018 and rom version 1.75.
I want to debrand this so i made a goldcard (tried with MMC1 and MMC2 as described everywhere). i used modaco's goldcard tool and when i loaded the goldcard img and pressed 'patch MMC' it says succesfully created goldcard.
So i putted the debranded zip on the sdcard. it loads the zip but then gives the error 'main version is older blablab'.
i think this is related to the goldcard right?
I made a goldcard like 5 times again and with another micro sd card but it all didnt work.
so now i cant debrand my desire HD
Please if someone can help me!!
thanks in advance!
Nick
and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 doesnt work for you?
So I think Vodafone 1.75 is Android 2.2.1. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
On top of the gold card you will also have to follow the procedure for downgrade to 1.32 (Android 2.2). Otherwise you won't be able to flash an older rom version over the existing software.
There is a guide to the downgrade procedure stickied in the development section.
Someone swyped my idea.

oops forgotten. i if course did that procedure too. but stil wont downngrade. its verry weird.
and yes its android 2.2.1
Are you using a low capacity sd card? Gold card won't work on sdhc, only sd. Use a 1 or 2 gb card.
Only other thing I could suggest is using a hex editor to insert the code manually, just to eliminate all possible errors.

yep i used to micro SD cards from 2gb.. and i insrted it manually too lol
Well im gonna try MMC1 on my 1 sd card and MMC2 on my other sd card in minutes and check if it works then .
So i just format as fat32 then make goldcard with MMC2.
Then put the zip on the SD card and insert it in my phone.
Then follow the downgrade process and check if it installs the zip right?
IT WORKS! it starts the update
