I have flashed multiple gb roms with this same issue. My phine will power down at the least opportune times (at night and its my alarm clock). It can only be fixed by a battery pull and nothing else. Anyone know a solution to this, or even why it happens? Im desperate :-(

Have you tried doing a super wipe between flashes?
Should fix Shutdown Freeze

Hhhhmmmm, have you flashed any ROMs or was that a stock flash?
Even with stock flashes you can have issues just asking [for instance when I got a phone from Tmobile nothing would fix the shutdown menu not appearing for me then once I re-flashed a new ROM low and behold it worked].
Or if you are using the SmartAss V2 governor [or anyothers dependant on it like I believe lionheart is] in your CPU speed tweaking app you may want to use on demand or conservative instead. If you flashed any kernel, CPU tweak scripts you may need to check the values that applied [usually in init.rc folder somewhere as a script [just open in any text editor to read them]. Also definitely could be any UnderVolt settings [where you set voltage used by CPU under certain speed conditions and if set lower than the cpu can tolerate then when it switches to speed that is set too low is when it shuts off] . Undervolting can be done in either System Tuner or Faux Clock [swipe screen to left on open and viola global under/over volt setting ]. If you have not done any of these things or are unsure read below and see if that helps.
What I would try [in order]
First run backups in titanium backup and nandroid [titanium is so you can restore apps back without having to re-install and reset your settings and nandroid just to be safe if you are newer to working with Android Devices in this way]
Then Reboot in to recovery [on boot [right after you feel the very first vibrate] hold BOTH vopl keys in [press in center] and release when you see Samsung Logo, just be sure you release before it goes off screen]
Tap Clear Cache [in Main Menu]
Tap Clear Dalvick Cache [in advanced]
Flash Fix Permissions script [found in QA and in Dev threads for this phone] you want the Fix Permissions v2 by Minotauri zip [look at my past posts I have linked my mirror page to many posts]
You just save it to either internal or external sd and flash it just like you would when installing a ROM in cwm Recovery Menu
and reboot and see what happens [this should nail it really after clearing both caches and fix perms I bet]
if that does nothing reboot clear caches [if you had to wait to see] and go to mounts and storage and format /data [only]
Restart and see what happens...
If that really does nothing be sure to re-download your ROM via WiFi ONLY [or copy from computer]
be sure to flash darkside super wipe [google it, my mirror page, the forums, its everywhere] and Kernel Cleanser Script BEFORE YOU FLASH THE ROM
[Like So]
Boot in to recovery Flash Darkside Super Wipe
Flash Kernel Cleanser [another script [google, my mirror page, forums again]]
Then Flash ROM [and NOTHING else]
Boot phone [skip account setup we'll be back] wait 3 min after initial lockscreen if unsure] and don't do anything [no app installs setting adjusts nothing]
Restart in to Recovery again
Wipe Cache and Dalvick Cache
Install aany helper zips [like super user, toggles zip whatever with any custom radio being the last thing]
Restart Phone
You should not have shutdown freeze after reboot and clearing cache you should prolly still have it on initial boot, pull battery if needed and manually boot in to recovery as above.

I have this same issue but no solution. It happens about 2 times a month, not enough to bother me but I have to pull the battery to get working again. I am using Juggs 5.0 with CPU tuner and the sophisticated profile minimum clock is 192 Max is 1512. I did do a super wipe before flashing and cleared caches and so forth. I was using gingersnap rom before and I wanna say it was happenening then too but I could be wrong. I always assumed it was something to do with the cpu settings, usually happens when I start an app shortly after waking the device.

My min clock speed is 192, and i am on jugg 5.0, but have had the same issue with foxstar and another rom that i cant remember. I havent messed with oc/uv settings, and have even eliminated my setcpu screen off profile so it wont happen in theory while not in use. Usuly it happens while being used in non-cpu-intensive apps like dolphin of tapatalk.
I have since cleared dalvik and cache (again) and it hasnt happened yet after a few hours. Only time will tell!

Looks like the cpu values arent the problem. I also fixed permissions and it died soon after i turned up my min values. A superwipe, kernel cleanse and reflash seem to be in order!

Possible fix for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 Sleep of Death.
Hey I had to work on a couple of phones just like your phone. After a couple of weeks with the phone, I found this out by accident and maybe it can help. Instead of just writing down the steps I made a video let me know if it works. I was able to reproduce on a couple of phones but don't know for sure if it is just a luck.
Here is my video.

i rooted my DINC and installed virtuous rom. then i started getting random reboots. so i wiped the phone, and installed the cynogenmod 7 nightlies rom. worked for a little bit, now i get random reboots again, and when the phone boots up, launcher pro always gives me a force close. any ideas?
Try wiping data and cache along with the dalvik cache in recovery. Stale cache files can cause fc.
Please post in the appropriate section next time. This is definately not a development thread.

If your overclocking, bring int back to stock clocks, and if you restored data with anything (titanium, ect) don't. It can cause issues. I'm running cymod 7 RC1 perfectly
i have it set to minimum of 384 and max of 1113. its thru cynogens performance settings not setcpu

as already stated, change you max to 998.. your phone may not be able to handle overclocking.
Overclocking is the number one cause of random reboots.

Been using SOS for a while now on my Evo 4G - loving it, except that once a day (haven't checked to see if it's at the same time each day) my Evo goes into a boot loop. Thought it might be an app of some setting I had on my Evo, until I installed this ROM on my wife's Evo 4G, and her's is doing it too (with minimal apps installed).
Can anyone offer either some debugging tool I can install to see what might be causing it, or otherwise offer some advise?
Many thanks,
Eric "GuitarEC"
P.S. - Did see something in the forums about Evos not playing nice with CPU clock settings lower than 128MHz, so I already uninstalled any CPU throttling. Still have the issue. Also, I wiped my wife's phone 3 times (cache included) 3 times in Recovery before flashing the ROM...
You for one can't clock any lower than 128 Mhz. What recovery are you using, because it may not be wiping correctly.

Try switching to amon ra or twrp; clockwork doesn't wipe correctly for some users. You'll be good to go after that.
Flashed RA Recovery v 2.3. Wiped my phone (several times) and installed fresh version of SOS (v1.9.0.7). Recovered apps and data from Titanium Backup.

Should be all good to go, and no prob man.
Okay, after all that, my phone just went into another boot loop. Was listening to Google Music at the time, this isn't the only app I'm running when it has done this in the past, but i figure I'd rather give more info than needed to help me diagnose this.
Also, can anyone recommend either a debugging tool, or a system logger/dump per that could shed some light on what's going on?
Thanks,

What I observe: Phone freezes for a few seconds then goes straight to boot animation (Skips White "HTC Evo 4G"). After a short period (usually less than 45 seconds) boot animation freezes and restarts boot animation. Only way to snap some sense (no pun intended) back into it is to pull the battery. Then it boots up normally.

Hmmm....you got AmonRa so that's good...you may wanna
go into recovery
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
fix permissions (uid mismatch)
reboot
let it chill for a minute
ALONE
And see how that does sometimes ROMs will need to take a couple minutes to do its thing when 1st installed see if it helps
TrevE Supporter!
K. Brb... I'll give this a try.
Okay. Followed steps as prescribed - let my phone sit for about 30 minutes afterwards. We'll see if this helps or not after about a day or two. I'm hoping so, but another minor problem I've noticed is still present (keyboard preferences are cleared after reboot).
Now the waiting begins...
Lemme know if anything (no offense) I'll walk you through my installation process no offense intended its jus sometimes things happen that are user error and it sucks cuz I've actually done some pretty bad moves here there

None taken at all. I have some prior Linux experience, but I've only been doing the root thing for about a month.
In fact, if you could spell out your install process, I'll compare it with mine and see if there was anything i flubbed.
Sure.
Download Rom
Download Gapps (If Needed)
Download Kernel (In Case I dislike Stock Later)
Boot To Recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Fix uid mismatch
Create Backup
Go back
Flash zip from SD
Flash Kings Format All (x2)
Go Back
Wipe
WIPE EVERYTHING MYSELF (x2)
Except SD Card
Except Battery Stats
Except Rotate
Go Back
Flash zip from SD
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps (If Needed)
Go Back
Wipe
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Fix uid mismatch
Reboot
Let it do its thing for about 5 or 10 mins
Unlock
Finish setup process

Looks like that did the trick. Wiped the Cache and Dalvik a couple of times each, fixed permissions and let the phone cook for about 15 after reboot. No boot loops over the weekend, and I applied the fix to my wife's Evo as well.
Thank you so much for the quick responses, and the patience for this relative noob. :^)

I have been having some persistent freezes where I have had to pull the battery to get the phone to do anything at all. Here is what is happening:
1 - factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe DALVIK cache
2 - install either CyanogenMod 7 or TSM PoolParty rom
3 - restore apps only or apps+data via Titanium or download the apps new from the android market and amazon app store
At this point the phone works great and will remain running fine for any period of time. However when I install a new app (after my first batch install), the phone starts to freeze. The freezing requires me to pull the battery in order to regain any activity on my phone. But after the first freeze, the phone freezes after about 30-45 seconds regardless of what I am doing on the phone.
I'll admit to being a big noob when it comes to rooting roms so I don't know if there is any logs I can look at or what the proper troubleshooting actions should be. I want to keep root and the ASOP roms so any help would be most appreciated.
This used to happen to me. People blamed it on the Incredible 2 HD ROM. I blame it on the processor mixed with scripts that were found on sense. Try increasing your min frequency to the like 368000 one. I used aerovan's kernels with CPU Master/Set CPU with:
gov-smartass v2
max-111300
min-36800
---------- Post added at 09:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:01 PM ----------
You are also wiping wrong. You should wipe data/factory reset, format system, wipe dalvik.
Thank you for your reply AgalychnisCallidryas. Since I am using AOSP roms and not a Sense rom, would this fix still help (I still plan on trying what you said anyways)?
Also you mention that I am wiping wrong. Following your rom flashing guide, I am not sure what I format. I am not doing the back up steps (#1-6), and I don't see what to format before I get to step 12 where you install the rom.
Once again, thanks for your help and quick responses.
The steps I am talking about the CPU settings are FOR AOSP. Sorry for making it unclear. I was saying that the scripts in Sense fixed the problem, but there are no such ones in AOSP.
And I left the Format System out of my guide. Oops. Check it again, should be fixed now.
Well, I adjusted the cpu (I don't have gov-smartass v2 installed...and I honestly wasn't sure where to even get it from) using the settings in CM7 with no improvement. Is there anything else that you can think of?
Just a few questions?
Are you restoring with data on Titanium?
Are you undervolting?
I am willing to bet the problem is simple. What rom did you make your backup on? I have quit using titanium for all my backups unless there is game progress I am saving. I take the additional minutes to just install from market.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Also try flashing Areovan's kernal for AOSP.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Zax10,
I am using Titanium to restore my apps without system data, but the problem happens even when I download the apps new from the market (I'm approaching 9 GB of data because I have frozen so many times).
The problem has happened when restoring apps created on CM7 and TSM.
I do not mess with the voltage, other than the one attempt to fix my problem based upon what AgalychnisCallidryas said above.
I am currently trying Condemned CM7.2 rom and should it freeze again, then I will try adding in Arovan's Kernel....then I'll try Magnolia 2.0 rom
I would definitely flash Evans. 8 bfs kernel. I think changing cpu settings in cyanogenmod settings> cpu settings> I would change governor to either ondemand or interactive. Then I would check set on boot
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
Arovan's Kernel didn't help and in CM7 the governor is set to ondemand by default. I think I'm going to load a sense rom and see what happens. Also are there any log files that I can look at that will tell me why the freeze is happening?
what version of aero's are you using? bfs or cfs?
aeroevan_aosp_0.8_bfs
I have also now ran into the problem of not being able to download any apps to my phone, regardless of the rom, when selecting the app directly on my phone (I can still push apps to it from the web). I'm not so worried about that as I did find some potential solutions to it that I have yet to spend much time on, but if you happen to have a solution for that too then I'm willing to listen.
Hi everyone!
I realize I can't post in the developer threads for any questions yet, but I do have a couple.
I'm pretty new to flashing and have read a enough before I did my flash that I felt comfortable doing it.
I was running MikG 3.11 and decided I wanted to try something different. So I flashed the ODJDub HD Bliss 2.2.1 ROM and it seems a bit sluggish to me right now. Is this normal?
Also I'm having a random problem with sms texts that I'm typing but the text won't show up and I have to close out and save a draft then go back to it. It seems to be happening in just landscape view the normal view was fine.
Thanks!

First off, the development section is not for questions, this thread is. (hence the name, or maybe I misunderstood you thinking youd post this AS a question in the dev section, when you meant in the ROMs thread lol) second, can you please answer these following questions:
1. Are you partitioned, and to what EXT.?
2. did you do a full, clean wipe?
3. did you partition before flashing this?
4. What kernel are you using?
5. what I/O scheduler, what governor, and what speeds?
6. are you using any alternate mods?
Also, Sense 3.5 isnt quite the fastest on the Evo 4G. Thank you. - Kyler

1: Yes, to EXT-3
2: Yes I did a full wipe, cleared all caches
3: Yes
4: Stock kernel
5: Not sure...guessing that has to do with another kernel.
6: Nope, just freshly flashed
Maybe its just inexperience for me using a newer ROM thats more advanced for the phone. Maybe its a matter of using a different kernel or it just how it is.
Thanks!

I'm getting some fc's and the browser doesn't work at all, it just crashes right after it opens. When go into messages it seems to hang for a few seconds.
I'm going to try and wipe again and flash again.
Thanks!
There has been several people that have had the browser problem including myself on the 1st install...but after i used caulkin's wipe script and partitioned my sd card again it installed perfect....i may have 1 fc a month which is so random i dont worry about it...Smelkus has a new recovery in the development section that may fix your problems...it has been stated its the best recovery for the evo right now...i would try this, do a complete wipe with smelkus recovery then try the rom again and see if corrects your problems...good luck....Carp
Also i am running Ca1ne underworld sbc version 6....version 7 just came out and i loading it as i type....some have said that the browser problem may be kernel related...so u may want to try this also....Carp
Ok so I'm in recovery and put the Smelkus recovery on and went into the bootloader and its just stuck saying Parsing....[PC36IMG.zip]
Edit: I think I see my problem. I needed to name the recovery file exactly what it was named before. I never renamed the Amon Ra file to PC36IMG.zip, I left it named how I downloaded it. Noob mistake
Guess not. I'm just stuck in this loop now.

So I've got Smelkus recovery mod and did a superwipe and then Re-flashed the ROM with the Underworld kernel and flashed the newest Underworld kernel on and I'm still having FC issues with the browser.
I'll try messing around with govenors and see how that works out.
Thanks!
Man i'm sorry...if u got smelkus flashed and working then did his wipes i'm kinda stumped...i remember reading in the bliss rom thread where some did not get there browser working....Outerdepth posted he was working on a update.back several pages in the thread....try wiping just the cashe, and dalvik cashe, then reboot and see if this helps....if not bro i'm sorry out of ideas...i have flashed a ton of roms and sometimes run into 1 that just doesnt like my evo...this may be your case but it sure runs great on mine....hope it works out for u and once again good luck bro.....Carp
Well I tried getting it to work but its just not working great for me. On to another ROM I guess. Thanks for the suggestions!
I actually flashed the Warm Two-Point-Three ROM and so far I've had no problems and it uses much less memory and space.
Ok, here's what I've been tinkering with for the last week or so, its a lightly modded CM9 base ROM. It's original intention was to be a ready to rock flash for my device, with all my apps and tweaks and whatnot already in place, so I could flash and go without having to setup all my stuff again.
This is based on that idea, minus most of the apps and whatnot.
I present Aoikaze Alpha 3!
Still a work in progress, but I felt a broader test base might be needed to find any oddities my tweaks may have caused.
Current ROM base:
Alpha 4 released 7-8-12
Updates:
Forgot to mention, this does have working rotation lock!
7-9-12: As per notsointeresting's suggestion, and a few complaints of dev-host's reliability lately, I setup androidfilehost to hold my stuff, I'll be slowly migrating everything over, then using dev-host as a mirror.
What is this based on?
This release is based on CM9 Alpha 4, I chose to rebase on this version as it should contain almost, if not all, fixes ghman, waydownsouth and the rest of those awesome devs have completed. I have not changed any of the source in favor of stability and reliability.
What does this come with?
Various build.prop tweaks, some apps such as:
Titanium Backup
Es File Manager
Epic Blue CM9 theme (thanks stetson!)
Apex launcher
All apps are the free versions, no warez here!
All extra apps are in /data/app so you can remove uninstall them without TiBu or anything else.
Init.d scripts for cleaning up the DB, permissions and cleaning the cache. They are named for what they do and sit in /system/etc/init.d for anyone who wishes to remove them.
Build.prop changes are marked for anyone wishing to remove or change them.
Did not include changes for it to be seen as an A500, it's still marked A100.
What does this NOT come with?
No paid for apps!
Does not include scripts that require script manager or any other app to run, which included the crossix mount swap and CPU Sleeper, both can not be run with init.d. Next release I may include them in /system/bin and include script manager for running them.
No extra bloat, no added sounds, wallpapers or anything else, just as it comes from CM.
Gapps not included as per CM's policy.
What else is planned for this ROM?
Currently working on a new method of calling script during sysinit that modifies the ram disk with more options for when a script will be run, right now it just runs everything at once, and can clash with anything else going on at the same time. I've tested this a few times and it still doesn't work properly, so if I get it working, this is will likely be alpha 4. It also means any init.d script can be set for anytime from early boot (literally as soon as the kernel takes over) to GUI showing up, to running before shutdown. It will allow an almost infinite ability to time when and how a script can/will be run without the need for changing the ramdisk (in the boot.img) anymore.
After that, I'm looking at theming the ROM, anyone who wants to help or even do it, please feel free to offer, I have no idea how to do this yet.

Bugs:
Dunno, please, as always, report anything odd and I'll note it here!
Thanks!
cdkg: Thanks for testing my early alpha.
gh123man, waydownsouth: For getting CM9 officially supported with CM9! Also, for answering my random questions and off the wall ideas in IRC.
randomblame: For also going along with my odd random thought processes in IRC.
da-pharoah: As always, for cheering me on and letting me bounce ideas off him on gtalk.
x0hell0x: His hellfire series inspired my wanting to try building a ROM for myself (and of course you guys).
Downloads
Optional:
Blackhole Wipe and Nullifier
Please read the OPs.
ezterry's Kernel
Again, please read all of his information. Kernel is not supported on CM9, so while it may work, it may have issues. I've not done extensive testing with his kernel on Aoikaze.
Required:
Gapps
Required for Play Store and misc framework (like gmail sync etc.)
ROM:
Aoikaze Alpha 3
I hope you read all that crap in the previous 2 posts before asking questions or reporting bugs
Thanks! As soon as I can get to a PC to root my tablet again, I'm definitely flashing this.

Thanks for this, you're awesome!

I tried this, but unless I did something wrong, I didn't see any of the things that it said it came with. I wiped everything, and flashed then flashed gapps. Still nothing.

The only things you'll see is the apps. The scripts run at boot so you won't see anything from them. Or did you mean the apps don't show up?

The apps didn't show up... no big deal though cuz I just flashed over the cm9 nightly without a wipe and all my apps and data were still there... the only bug I ran into so far is the volume buttons are still stuck in landscape mode... also, the screen rotation lock switch on the side of the tab is working as well otherwise its working good so far. Here's what I got from just flashing without wipe;

Flashed Aoi kaze and EZterry's, no issues so far. Running at 1504 and running CPUsleeper battery life is comparable to stock.

It'll get better after it settles for a couple days. Not insanely better but better lol.

Hey there. I see you're using Dev-host. Tried downloading had issues (not only this ROM) . personally I'd like to recommend androidfilehost.com , its always maintained, never seems to slow down and with an account you get unlimited storage/bandwidth, etc.
I use it as my main file host for Android now.
I'll continue trying to download from here though. Just very slow, and keeps stopping.
I'm excited to see your modifications from cm9 anyhow

Thanks for the suggestion, this the first I've heard of DH giving problems and I hear it 3 times just today, so I guess its time to mirror.

Funny enough, I forgot to install it. I have done it since and still no issues, and battery life is still good. Watched Netflix for about an hour and only dropped 10% or so.
Well, some updates ran and now getting random reboots, what info do you need before I wipe and reflash?

What was updated? Still runs rock solid for me never a hiccup but I'm switching between this, kuroikaze and jellybean and restoring back, so I can't say its a solid week or whatever of running. I'm flashing 20 times a day, no I'm not exaggerating. For every alpha build number posted there is probably 5-10 personal builds that no one ever sees lol. Just depends how many tries it takes to get what I'm doing right.
Also, just wipe cache dalvik and data you can leave system alone most likely.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
Weather Channel and Facebook updated, I cleared dalvik and cache then fixed permissions and rebooted, still shutdown and rebooted after a couple of minutes. Though the latest reboot I didn't restart CPUsleeper and hasn't rebooted. The funny thing is that I was going to try to post a battery screenshot in the morning but this hosed that up.
Is there a log that shows what caused the reboot? I ran log at from the terminal and got a huge screen of jibberish.

You'd have to catch it when it reboots, so basically sit there logging until it happens. Not real fun, and random reboots are hard to figure out because of how...random...they are. Leave CPU Sleeper off, and see if it still doesn't reboot.
Well it was still sitting at the same page on xda when I woke up, so it must be something with CPUsleeper. Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

This wouldn't bee too hard, since it reboots within minutes. Haven't timed it, but it wasn't long.

adb logcat > logcat.txt
that will dump it into a file instead of flooding the screen.
CTRL C will cancel it.
If it is CPU Sleeper causing it, I'll (or you can) forward it to eugene for inspection.
