I've been looking through the threads but I am still not sure if I should get this case Black TPU S-Line Gel Skin case (They are only $1.99 on ebay) or a Trident Aegis.
I'm not too concerned with protection but will the TPU case be protective enough from some short drops?
And for those who have a Trident Aegis case, how much bulk does it add to your phone?
Also, if anyone has any other case recommendations, feel free to share. I'm really just looking for a thinnish stylish case.

I have the Trident Aegis. It provides good drop protection and doesn't add much bulk to the phone. If anything it adds personality to the phone IMO. Dont expect much out of the TPU case. It will protect it against scratches but will not help absorb the impact of the fall. I had a TPU case on my Evo 3d and I dropped it from waist height, the phone looked ok but the digitizer messed up. Ive dropped my Epic touch alot on concrete and the Trident case does a great job of protecting the phone. I would highly recommend it. As a warning do not get the Otterbox Commuter. Its slippery and the buttons are hard to press. I cant comment on the Defender but the Commuter for the Epic Touch is not one of their best cases.
Had a trident, switched to tpu.. Trident too thick and had too much grip when sliding out of pockets

I own both. I daily a TPU and the protection is fine. Mind you I have a desk job. However I think that when going out on a long trip the Trident is the better choice.

I also have a Trident Aegis a S-line TPU case and a dizitronic matte tpu case.
The TPU cases provide very little protection against shock or anything. They are good for keeping the phone from actually touching a surface and they add extra grip. I will sometimes use one when I'm home or at the office and my phone is just sitting on a desk while I work but I don't feel comfortable going out into the world with one. Volume and power buttons are also a bit difficult to use with tpu cases.
The Trident Aegis on the other hand stays on my phone 90% of the time. It adds a layer of protection that makes me comfortable and gives it a bit of rugged style. The design of the case also enhances the volume and power buttons and makes them very easy to push. A few weeks ago my baby grabbed my phone off a picnic table and dropped it on the concrete. No issues whatsoever, the Aegis absorbed the impact. It does add a bit more bulk than most people would like but its smaller than the ballistic or otterbox.
My recommendation is buy a few cases and go with what feels best for you. My phone is with me 24x7 so I didn't mind spending a few extra bucks on cases and screen protectors to find the combo I liked.
I had the black TPU and then later I bought the Aegis.
The TPU is good for what it's worth. It's cheap, looks nice, doesn't add bulk, and sort of protects your phone. The Aegis is real protection though. It DOES add considerable bulk, but it's also cheap and it looks nice. The drop protection is a lot better than the TPU though and it also has covers for the USB and mic ports so it prevents dust. My number one pet peeve with the TPU was that it collected dust, so the Aegis is perfect for me.

I just received the Trident Aegis today. I bought it after using the Otterbox Commuter case. I know some people were complaining about the buttons being hard to press on the commuter, but without anything else to compare it to I thought it was fine and didn't understand why people were having problems.
Well, I put the Aegis on today and all I can say is wow! The buttons are SO much easier to press. It actually feels good pressing them lol. The OB and the Aegis are similar in design (with the Aegis being more aesthetic) but there is a bit more rubber exposed on the Aegis which improves the grip a bit more. The OB is just way to slippery. I'm happy with the Aegis and will be sticking with it; most likely as my permanent case. And for $18 on Amazon you cant go wrong
I have the TPU case. Its nice. Though, made from cheap materials, its starting to show its wear. I think I may check out this Trident Aegis case, looks awesome!
Here's another good case. This one is very similar to the Ballistic case, but not quite as bulky. Like the Ballistic and Trident cases, it has an inner silicone layer and then a hard plastic layer that goes on over it. I also like how it has thicker silicone on the corners to better absorb the impact of a drop.
It's available in multiple colors, I got the yellow one a couple weeks ago and I just ordered the pink version for the wife's phone. I also like the look of the white one, I just might order up one of those too.

It's just as fugly as the Ballistic, lol.
To OP: get yourself a Trident if you want some color, or the Case Mate Tough if you're ok with black.
Both of them are amazing cases.

trident adds small amount of bulk but blends well with phone- and protection is
well worth the small increase- the one drop you make with tpu- could be the last one to cost you $$$ Much less bulky looking than ballistic- and opinions are personal- evryone has one- wrong and right. In this case- Ugly is in eye of blind beholder.

The thing is, if Ballistic (or the company you linked) made cases without those goofy padded corners, they would be much better looking. At my work everyone I asked preferred the look of the Casemate Tough to the Ballistic precisely for this reason. Also, they make getting the phone in and out of pockets more difficult than it should be.
That white case would look downright sexy if it had normal corners.. I'm sure there isn't that much difference in terms of protection offered.

I agree it would look better without the big corners, but they provide extra protection in case of a drop. I guess that's a trade off I don't mind.

This is the first phone I've owned that I've used a case with. I was a bit hesitant because I love how the phone looks on its own. I bit the bullet and grabbed the Aegis, and I haven't regretted it one bit. It still looks fantastic and I've had a couple of accidents that could have easily been phone killers, but there's not a blemish on my phone OR the case. I'm impressed with it.
Anyone have any REAL pictures of what the phone looks like with the Trident case on?
What are people using for heavy duty protection? My job is pretty rugged outside in the elements a lot. Right now I'm using the seidio convert case and its nice but its dosent have a built in screen protector, it comes with a stick on one but I've never had good luck with them. I had an otterbox defender with my evo 4g and it was great i alsohad great customer service with otterbox. I think I'm gonna get another defender series otterbox I'm just curious if there are any other hard core protective cases i should look into.

Are the white areas grippy silicone or hard plastic? Is the case just as easy to remove as the ballistic case?

Hello all, long time lurker here. I got the Trident Aegis case in the mail today and thought I'd compare it to a couple other popular cases out there. I've had the Ballistic SG on my phone for a week or so, so far I'm liking the Aegis!

Size
The first thing I noticed when I took the Ballistic off and slipped the Aegis on is that it feels quite a lot thinner and less bulky. It seems like its right in between the Ballistic and the TPU case for thickness, I tried my best to show that in the pictures.
Protection
The Ballistic is definitely more rugged than the Trident. The silicon is thicker everywhere, the hard layer is thicker, the corners are reinforced, and the ridge around the screen comes farther in and is deeper. While the Ballistic case was on I actually got in the habit of lightly bouncing my phone on the desk to keep my hands busy. I had no doubt that the phone would be fine.
The Aegis is way better than no case at all I'm sure but it's not the same as the Ballistic. If you want protection for frequent drops, go Ballistic. If you want to keep a thinner profile and still have some protection, go for the Aegis. Personally, I'm pretty careful with my stuff, so I'm perfectly happy with the Aegis.
Usability
I feel like I had a better grip on the phone while using the Ballistic case. The corner bumpers not only protect from drops, but also give a nice place for my index and pinky fingers to rest.
The silicon on the Ballistic is stickier, which is great for grip, but horrible for dust and pockets. Getting the Ballistic in and out of my pocket was a pain. Even in a large coat pocket, I always had to jiggle it a little to rip it free. Both the silicon and the hard plastic on the Aegis are smoother. I have no troubles pocketing the Aegis.
Note: The deep bezel on the Ballistic case makes touching the right edge of the screen with my right thumb while holding it in my right hand difficult. I often had to re-swype words that used "P", "O", or "L," with a conscious effort to push all the way to the edge of the screen. Not un-usable, but the issue is non-existent with the Aegis.
Conclusion/TLDR
The Ballistic SG and the Trident Aegis are both great cases. The Ballistic is perfect for people that want a lot of protection and don't mind a little bulk. The Trident is a good compromise for the people that want to keep their phone thin.
Edit: got a few posts, added the images!
I have a Ballistic SG case coming later this week. I was looking for something that will hold up to my immense amount of clumsiness and bad luck, looks like I made a good choice.

Nice review and helpful comparison pics.
I'm loving the Ballistic, but like the Ballistic HC case I used on my Evo, it's extreme overkill for running and the office. I''d still use it most of the time but it's difficult to get in and out of my pocket.
So I've got an Aegis in the mail. It will likely replace the TPU and silicone cases I currently rotate between. I have the same two-tone TPU case in your photos, but in clear. Best case for the money.
Nice review, I own a Ballistic case and have often found myself bouncing it on tables when bored...LOL
I've had the Trident case for a few days now, the screen is much less recessed and easy to use with one hand compared to the Ballistic SC. My only complaint is that the smooth plastic shell could be slightly grippier. Much easier to get in and out of pockets than the SC, and great thickness for the protection offered. The buttons are prominent and easy to press, and the port covers look durable.
This is the last case I will buy for my phone. I recommend it!
thanks for this review... im currently using the TPU case and never heard about the others... i might have to check out the Aegis. Thanks for the review. Appreciated it
Ordered the Trident Aegis, Red and Black, will be here tomorrow!!! Thanks for the review and comments really helped in my decision!!!

I couldn't be happier with my Ballistic SG-- as a runner who uses his device as a music player (and person with a clumsy side now and then) when I purchased the Epic Touch in early December the most important decision I had to make was which case is durable enough to survive the occasional drop, had an easy to hold form factor and included access to all ports/keys (headphone jack & volume buttons were most important). I did my research and after seeing the video on the Ballistic site, made my decision and am completely satisfied with it. It's all about what keeps your device safe and meets your specific needs.
Thanks the pics are really helpful

i got the trident aegis today and while this is my favorite for the e4gt so far, the clear screen protector they supply with it is not very good. it has a rainbow effect on it (kind of like a glare) and i didnt quite get it on right without any bubbles.. (there are some specks of dust creating air bubbles too. so i'm going to remove it.
can anyone suggest a quality screen protector for our phone?

Im really impressed with the trident aegis case. I work at home depot and my co-worker dared me to toss the phone down a aisle. So threw like a bowling ball so it bounced on the corners and it was perfectly fine (only went half way down the aisle). I even had a plastic piece sitting in between the phone and the trident symbol just enough to grip surfaces because the case slides to easy as its designed to curve with the phone on the hard plastic part of the case.

It is a great tip, I actually got it from someone else on this site, who also tried to sell some junk too... :-/
I have protection plan on it anyway so i'm not too worried about it breaking as i'm a klutz anyway and have dropped it several times with the case on already. Plus i had to test it out.
I also went with the Trident Aegis. I checked out the ballistic and didn't care for the larger corners and loose rubber feel. also, the protectors on the Aegis (usb & headset) were a plus for me. The Aegis also gives the phone/screen a wider & flatter appearance...which I like. several friends who have the ballistic prefer my Aegis after actually handling it.
Both are nice, but the Aegis is top for me. got mine on ebay, about $22~
I am looking at both of these. I like to wear my phone on my hip. What pouch/case/holster will fit this phone with the case on it?
This is a new case offered by Incipio I already ordered mine I was just wondering if anyone has this case because I've searched the forums and found not anyone has mentioned it. I like tpu cases but I like the feel of polycarbonate. This case is probably similar to the Spigen NGP neo hybrid, which is what I was waiting for but I can't wait any longer. So let me know what you guys think about it if you own it.

I had a commuter for about 24hrs... Now on a silicryllic and couldn't be happier. I have no kids, no real damage to any device but an iPhone that fell completely face flat onto hardwood @ 4ft and shattered into 100 pieces in an incase slider.
Otterbox Commuter
Pros
- Tough as hell! It seems overkill for my everyday use. People with defenders must play baseball with their devices.
- Dust covers will keep things cleaner.
- Flash, Camera, speaker are seperate cutouts and deep.
Cons
- Added way too much thickness IMO. I don't remember my iPhone 3GS in a case being this thick...
- Plastic is SLIPPERY. You need such a tough case because you'll be dropping it more than naked.
- Plastic came down the sides further than I would like, so you're holding onto it's slippery face, and not the rubber near the screen face.
- Buttons are terrible to press, way to hard.
- Damn near impossible to remove. I like to remove mine for cleaning once a week or two, and switch out with a thin hard shell depending on my day.
Incipio Silicryllic (Should note I've had this on two other phones now, but been happy with it's durability on them)
Pros
- Slips into pocket very easy.
- Isn't too thick
- Adds side grip over stock
- Looks much better, frankly more grown-up too.
- Slightly easier to hit the home button
- Around $10 cheaper than Commuter
Cons
- Probably not as protective as the Commuter on big drops(Based on a GNex and Titan, It's still very good, better than a TPU, hard shell, etc)
- Flash, Camera, Speaker opening is one large hole, easier to get the lens if it's lands on a protrusion.
- no port coverings
- Silicone can catch dust, but a quick wipe takes care of anything visible with it's clean lines.
This thread was about the Incipio Faxion guys not other incipio cases
Got my faxion case.. And I like it... It is thinner and lighter than the sycrillic and has good drop protection. It is in between a two piece case like sycrillic and a tpu case.. The polycarbonate back does scratch up fairly easy. I have the blue and Grey case. The white might not show up as much. I will post pics if I get the time.
Oh dang I never noticed this was a TPU/Polycarb case . How sturdy is the TPU core around the top and the bottom of the phone? I recently got the Silicryllic case and I don't like how loose the top and especially the bottom where the USB mini port is. It feels like that area might tear sooner or later.

While silicone does tend to be a little more flexible, I've never had even a pure silicone case tear on me yet, and I've had versions for years on a phone and a 7" tablet (switched to a folio for the tablet, though - better screen protection)
IMO, I'd always prefer silicone over TPU in a hybrid case, since it both provides better grip (if exposed by the polycarb shell) and better shock absorption. I don't think I'd ever want a pure silicone case for a phone ever again, though, since while the extreme grippiness is great, it's a lint magnet and a pain to pull out of your pocket sometimes. Also, it's too easy for toddlers to rip it off.

A friend had a simple silicone case on his phone and had those exact problems as you mentioned with it being a lint magnet and how troublesome to put it in and pull it out of the pocket.
My family recently upgraded their phones to the Epic 4G Touch and I ordered some simple TPU cases for them and I found even though the grip is less compared to the silicone hybrid, just adding some bulk helps with gripping the phones. I like how the TPU cases are just a tighter fit around the phones.
We all have come from phones that were maybe 4+ years old so they were thicker and we didn't have to worry much about damaging the phone from a drop. I myself came from the HTC Mogul so it was a huge change in the thickness of the phone.
What about the body glove drop suit? Anyone seen this, or have any opinions on it.

I currently have a Zagg HD on mine, so far so good. Smooth like glass, unlike their "standard" one which has a plastic feel. Either will work. Have not tried the screen part since I have the Zagg, but I picked up the ArmorShield (supposed to be Zagg eqiv.) and the shield for the rest of the phone is good. Got a good deal on an otterbox so thats going on as well when I get it.

Apparently only adds 2.2mm to each side so 4.4mm overall which isn't too bad IMO
I've read that this case is easy to put on and take off
You can get it with a holster and/or stand as well

Bro, for seidio active case, the soft silicone part will get loose after few week of using especially the top & bottom part. For case-mate tough, my brother using casemate tough case, drop once from 3 feet high, the hard shell break. :crying:
Conclusion, grab a Commuter or Ballistic SG and you can't go wrong with both of these premium case. :good:
I have casemate and OB. Both are great. Just switched back to OB today...its better than the casemate. Close but I will stick.with the OB.

I have the Acase. Originally, I was going to get the speck dual layer case, but I looked at the review from the acase at amazon and it seems better. I also looked at the retail price and its "retail value" seems more, so that's one reason why I got it. So far, great case. Protects both back and side, and front when placing down on a flat table. One time, I accidentally bumped the cellphone on a side of the table and it grazed the case, but no damage to the phone. Glad I have acase on.
From what I saw, the Incipio is pretty similar, so it wouldn't hurt if you get that or the Acase. Just know that the price point is about the same on Amazon, but the retail value is different; The acase is about 40 and the incipio is about 30. I usually choose the higher price, believing that it is the better quality. But that is my bias.
The otterbox commuter or defender are great cases. I have no problems with the defender buttons, the commuter got better after about a week but I wanted the holster the defender came with. I did however take off the screen protector the defender came with. I also tried the Acase like you show above and it is ok but no where near as protective as the otterbox. Oh and the Otterbox Defender is on Amazon for about 29.00.
Trident Kraken has yet to fail me in terms of protection. I drop and toss my phone to demonstrate it for people everyday. Plus they have quite a few different color options.
Only thing that has failed was the belt clip broke. But contacted customer service and I had a new one in 4 days.
Sent from Pluto.
Go with the Acase. You can't beat the price and the case is great! Nothing against the other cases, but this case is just as good if not better. Hell, you could get two for the price of some of the other ones. Here's my review when I first made purchased it:

It's still my all around favorite case. You really can't go wrong with this case.

UAG case for me, I don't have a screen protector but I did have a zagg hd and it was just terrible (actually went through two if them with the same issues). I will be getting a specter glass protector and I'm hoping it will be compatible with my case

Hated my Otterbox Commuter... didn't look good whatsoever, and the button mashing problem was enough to make me return it after two days of use (I know it "gets better" after use, but when you pay any amount of money, it should work out of the box).
Went to the Speck Candyshell and I love it (its dual layer as well).

By design. Impact hits and the outer hard shell breaks apart to absorb most of the impact. Then the case can tumble on the ground with the polycarbonate case with very light impact.

Hello guys, so I recently bought a AT&T i747 SGS3 and knowing how picky I am with my electronics I started to look right away for a case.
The case must not add bulk, must offer great protection against scratches as well as the case not scratching the phone in any way, must offer camera protection and must have at least a small lip on the front.
So far I have come across these 3 which are:
Otterbox Commuter
SGP Neo Hybrid
Urban Armor Gear Case for the SGS3
As far as the otterbox commuter, I had it on my atrix 4g and loved the protection it offered but a few months later it just gets old, attracts lint on the borders and overall takes the beauty and slickness of the phone but I must mention protection was great and that is the most important feature for me.

The SGP Neo looks very promising offering a good quality screen protector and overall a great case all around but what has me worried is the direct contact of the TPU with the phone, specially the camera area and bezel as opposed to the otterbox which has a rubber sleeve, I had a blackberry about a year ago and the phone scratched badly on the bezel from dust getting under speck TPU case and acting as sand paper.
The Urban Armor Case seems like a very well rounded case, offering some type of rubber/soft TPU inner lining on the inside and a very tough poly-carbonate shield on the outside. What I like is that both pieces are bonded together offering a seamless design but what worries me a little is the X pattern on the inside which seems to be part of the outer hard layer which goes all the way to the top of the camera/flash/mic opening which could potentially scratch those components down the line.
Which case would you recommend and why?
Other case recommendations are welcome.
I wouldn't recommend the SGP Neo Hybrid due to the issues regarding sensitive buttons which many/most people are experiencing.
To make things harder for you, I'd also recommend looking at either the Incipio Silicrylic or the Acase Superleggera.
Edit: I also hope you realize you're in the wrong device forum (but accessories are all the same so doesn't matter)

UAG, with out a doubt.

Otterbox commuter. Feels better, looks better and UAG has horrible customer service

Otterbox no longer attracts lint.
Otterbox is the biggest and has the most sturdy feel to it.
UAG feels really good in the hand. Less slippery than otterbox.
SGP still has button issues. It is super thin but feels as sturdy as a gel case.
The speck case is nice.

How about
how about using the original from Samsung called flip cover that comes especially for protecting front and back side, see the pic:
I have the same color as the pic, your SGS3 will look very nice, I promise!!!!
Dont forget the Trident Aegis
Acase Superleggera
Currently not being productive on my S3.
.
I have the UAG & Neo Hybrid, both are going back.
UAG isn't bad at all, but I'm not a fan of the stiff buttons...that being said, the Neo Hybrid buttons are atrocious. I can't believe they even released this case with all the issues I've been having.
Will probably try the commuter case next, as people seem to be having less issues with the power button.
Hey guys,
I have all three cases. Hands down the feel and the buttons go to UAG. what r u guys talking about the UAG buttons feel crappy?'honestly they feel better then any case I have ever tried for the gs3. The protection , otterbox wins this by a hair. Look goes to sgp but its very thin, buttons feel like crap and you can't buy the plastic bands seperate.. plus customer support is crappy. I love sgp ultra clear screen protectors though..
I'm just giving my honest opinion and in very anal on cases.. the gf gives me verbal treatment for buying all these cases
Thank you guys for your sincere opinions, so far I am leaning towards the UAG in white. I never drop my phones or anything and they are always over some layer of rubber or cloth when out of my pocket but I know accidents happened and that is why I need a case to at least cover it from getting scratched or dinged.

I own, use, and recommend the DBA Cases Complete Ultra. It is both thin and protective. The inner piece is made of TPU, no scratching your phone. The outer piece is a flexible polycarbonate. The fit and finish are first-rate. Both sides of the phone are protected when resting on a flat surface.

i have this case and the otter box (defender and commuter)
i like the defender because it has a protective screen the protects the entire front screen... the bad, obviously the size.
I like the commuter because it doesn't bulk up the phone that much, a bit slipper though at the back.
the original front flip case looks the best... but offers the least protection
Get the Commuter case! It's add a little bit bulky but the protection was MAX! I did few drop test in front of my friends to show off. It's drop from about 1.2 meter height and the case and phone survive it. I would recommend UAG case due to special design..^^
Commuter = Max protection + Keep the round shape of the phone
UAG = Less protection than Commuter + Makes your phone a bit square + nice design & less slippery.
Final decision still yours. Both case almost at the same price(UAG at Amazon.com, now only 21.99!!). Grab one of this and you will not regret for it. If not, grab both cases..xD

I'm waiting for mine to get here, just ordered one myself. As for drop protection, I would assume it offers as much protection as the spg or uag cases, if not more. There's a DBA thread where there is a picture of the outer plastic part of the case being bent almost in half and it still doesn't break so it's got to be pretty tough. The otterbox is pretty much max protection as far as drops go but it is also bulkier than any of the others mentioned.
i need a bombproof case for my SGS3 i have read alot of the case reviews on here and i am just over whelmed by the case options and was wondering what the community here can give me some advice on picking a case any help would be great
The Otterbox Defender is probably the most protective case on the market.
I just ordered a Urban Armor Gear case off eBay. There was one for $29.95 or best offer so I threw in $22 and it accepted! Free shipping too. Great deal.
I'm currently using the free ZooGue case ($4 shipping) and it's been pretty good for a TPU case. I just wanted something a bit more protective.

does anyone have experiance with the SAMSUNG GALAXY S III BALLISTIC SHELL GEL (SG) SERIES CASE
I have the Ballistic SG MAX, and it is by far the most protective case I've ever used. The screen guard is replaceable too. Also, the belt clip is awesome.

Otterbox defender + ifeel glass
I use the otterbox commuter and the ifeel screen protector.
It is thinner than the defender and its easier to remove the case during an over heat plus it leaves the screen protector in place.
Edit: just bad speling

I've used Otterbox Defender since I bought the SGS3. Picked up the Seidio OBEX case today. I have complete confidence in the otterbox but really liked the idea of waterproof case. Still not sure about the OBEX just yet but seems like a very good solid well built case. Performed the waterproof test and it's lived up to the claims.

That looks as tough as UAG's so i'd go for a UAG (better looking to me). Pure is probably cheaper though.
But he wants something tougher than that one i think, so it's not the same grade of cases. Look for otterbox defender or Trident Kraken. Kraken has lots of videos official and third party on youtube vouching for it's toughness.
I'm using a UAG at the moment and although extremly satisfied, i may still get a kraken just because how tough they seem for heavier duty.
Check out the 15 pound anchor one, this kind of impressed me. They also have a splash test (they throw a bucket of water on it), throw a phone off the roof of a building crashing hard on solid concrete, kick one around, etc. Reckon anything short of that nuclear explosion and they've tested it. Phone survives everytime, of course.

I can't judge the UAG because I don't own one, but I do own a otterbox defender and the Dualtek. I can confidently say this this case protects just as well as the defender just in a slimmer package. I have purposely dropped the phone on asphalt and concrete to see how it holds up and the phone and the case are fine. There's a video on YouTube of a guy throwing the dualtek from a 20 foot roof on to solid concrete and the phone just bounces around a few times and that's it. This is a very solid case and though it may not look it, it is very rugged.

I have the ballistic. Feels pretty protective
I have the otter box defender love the protection it gives. Have dropped many times and held up very well it does add bulk but keeps my phone safe and protected
Been using the Ballistic Max with it's screen protector for about three weeks. One fall from belt to floor without issue. The real test is falling face down on gravel, the Gorilla glass by itself will not take that as I found out. Not sure what screen protector will take a belt to gravel hit?
