Hi together!
I am on ARHD and just recognized a strange SD-card behaviour.
My storage was shrinking. In the beginning I had around 5 Gbyte free space, and after several updates and tweaks my storage shrinked around 4 Gbyte and I was left with around 1 Gbyte free space.
I am not sure, if ROM causes the problem or LeeDroid Tweaks on the ROM, but I formatted SD today, and for now everything is ok.
Did anybody of you recognize similar SDcard behaviour on your ROMs and if, what is the cause.
Thanks.
I have had the same problem on stock non-rooted 1.28. I noticed I was missing 1 gb so I restarted and after my reboot I lost another gb, after that one I didn't lose any more storage, but I still don't have that 2 missing gb.

No Issues
I'm running LeeDroid 4.0 rom and can't say I have seen this issue. I have loaded my sd card and have 5gb free and that has remained constant with all the rom updates and tweaks that have been made.
I'm on InsertCoin v3.3.0 and suddenly my storage went from 9gb to 6,3gb or something..
Very strange indeed...
Any insight woild be greatly appreciated folks

Suddenly I lost another 2 gb, what could it be?

What I did was making a backup of my SD. Formatted Phone storage and put backup back onto SD.
Since that day everything seems fine (hopefully!) But I am keeping an eye on that.

I tried doing that but after I formatted my sd storage there's already 1 gb missing. Could that be dalvik cache?

Yes, here also but then I reformatted and it's good. But I think it will come back when I flash or update my Rom.

mine storage also was getting lower and lower. on different post someone said that es explorer trash files need to be removed,so u can gain memory back.
but i didnt have es explorer. running on exodized.rom. so moved all my folders from sd card to pc, formatted sd card, and put back on files, and that gives me back 10gb extra !!!! really strange
i am getting really flamed.. i have missing 15GB of storage !! wtf HTC!
already been reported guys have a look here

Question. Maybe i just never payed attention to notice this, but last night i rooted my phone with 10minute method and sd card click-in. Then followed the same guys video to NAND. Installed CM6, first making a backup of my rom just rooted which is stored on the SD card. When i go to settings on my phone, then go to Storage information. I have 400mb left on my SD Card, which is only 2gb and a rom backup and such. Understandable. However, my actual PHONE storage says only 700mb. Why is there only 700mb available on a 8gb internal storage?? Seems kinda low. Anyway to free this up or do i need to worry about it?
The 700mb is phone storage for apps and stuff. The 8gb is internal storage which is just like another sd card but built in and actually it's about 6.8gb. I know that in CM5.08 the internal storage was not recognized so this may be a problem on CM6. You should look on one of the threads for that rom and see if that's the case.

EDIT: Disregard. different issue.
Neither cm 5.0.8 or cm6 show the internal flash as of yet. I have been using the skyraider froyo+sense Rom that recently came out and it has the memory available.

Same here.
I have an 8gb memory card but i am concerned with how much space is being used. I cleared cache, cleaned download folder, deleted alot of other stuff, and even deleted a few songs. Any idea how to get 1 or 2gb back?
Do you have any nandroid backups on your sd card. A few of them can easily take up a couple GB.

have you tried mounting it on a computer and just looking through the files? post questions as to which ones you don't understand why they take up XX room and if they are safe to delete?
I've done this already and i still feel like i deleted something important to my system. Can you tell which folders are okay to delete?

I might be wrong, and I'm happy to be corrected. The few file that the android system places on your SD card would just be put back the next time you reboot if you were to delete them.
If you have your SD card partitioned and use a rom with apps to SD and you were to delete files from the ext partition you could run in to problems.

My G2 came with an offline car navigation software by htc. Its maps were "hidden" in /sdcard/.data
They were about 2Gb in size. I copied them to my harddrive - just in case - and then deleted them from the sd card.
The command
du /sdcard |sort -n
should also be helpful in finding out were your memory went.

Hook it up to your PC and run WinDirStat.

Which is the best rom to free up internal memory as the stock does not leave too much spare

CM7 from alquez
Takes only 80 MB of your internal memory. So around 400 MB over for apps etc.
Sense rom gives you 120 MB for apps etc.
Apps 2SD gives you more space, but internal memory is faster.
You can also keep more memory for music, videos, ... on your sd card.

I had that going myself but eventually it just stopped letting me download more apps off the marketplace, I cant remember the exact error message, so I reverted to stock, any idea's what caused that to happen?

If it was "insufficient memory" it was googles fault. The market was screwed. Idk if its fixed with the new update, but if not, just go to downloaded apps, find the market and hit uninstall updates. Google auto updates sometimes so it's a quick fix, but it works.

When you partition the sdcard, what exactly does it let you do? Can you have a separate partition for storage and put all your apps on the other partition, like move EVERYTHING so your phone has more memory? Also, how would you do this?

It allows you to move cache and apps. Have a look at jikintauru rom if you want it or just Google data2sd.

Oh I've moved to using Link2SD, works perfectly. As well, partitioned my SD and it works perfectly. Definitely going to buy a 32 GB card later

Weird problem never had it before. All apps get sorted to the devices memory which is only 2 gb... eventually I get msg space running out cant sync, update or dowbload more apps... shouldbnt the apps be downloading onto the device usb storage itself which is 14-16gb??? Under settings , storage I get 2 gb device memory, 16 gb device usb storage and 16 gb sd card external storage and yet everything goes to the 2 gb partition... what the hell..?! I heard something about a wiping script. Im using the twrp recovery.. help?

Correct me if i am wrong, but with all android phones, the internal storage is partitioned. 2 gigs are used for downloaded apps, another couple of gigs are used for the system and the rest of the remaining storage is used for the downloaded data within the apps.
Also try moving some of your apps to the SD card. It will help free up some storage in that 2gb partition.

Ou might be right for the partitions but ive never had this problem before. I think something messed up perhaps the partitions? I moved all my apps to the sd card the problem is still there. The bigger storage in the phone just iant being utilized or sonething like that.. I was on the embryo rom for good 4 -5 months had ****load of apps and never had an issue.. been running jedi rom for a few weeks and encoutered this problem. It just doesnt make sence.

I had this same issue on jmt v5, I have no idea what caused it or how to fix it I tried everything, it's like the Rom won't store anything anywhere but the system partition, it's very strange, I switched to embryo Rom by Mohan, all the great touchwiz stuff, very fast and stable, only difference is no Wi-Fi calling, but if u can handle that go flash embryo, best touchwiz Rom I've seen to date
