Question. Maybe i just never payed attention to notice this, but last night i rooted my phone with 10minute method and sd card click-in. Then followed the same guys video to NAND. Installed CM6, first making a backup of my rom just rooted which is stored on the SD card. When i go to settings on my phone, then go to Storage information. I have 400mb left on my SD Card, which is only 2gb and a rom backup and such. Understandable. However, my actual PHONE storage says only 700mb. Why is there only 700mb available on a 8gb internal storage?? Seems kinda low. Anyway to free this up or do i need to worry about it?
The 700mb is phone storage for apps and stuff. The 8gb is internal storage which is just like another sd card but built in and actually it's about 6.8gb. I know that in CM5.08 the internal storage was not recognized so this may be a problem on CM6. You should look on one of the threads for that rom and see if that's the case.

EDIT: Disregard. different issue.
Neither cm 5.0.8 or cm6 show the internal flash as of yet. I have been using the skyraider froyo+sense Rom that recently came out and it has the memory available.

Let me start off by saying I am new, my phone is a t-989 and I tried to do a search but every time I tried to fill in the search space it would disappear. So that's why I'm asking a question that's probably been asked before. So I have a Tmobile galaxy s2 and an 8 gig sd card. I also downloaded the Astros manager app as well and don't really know how to use that. My problem is I have about 679mb on USB and 6.7 g on sd which is an 8gig card. I deleted some apps from my USB storage but the number hasn't changed. What can I do with the Astros app to make more room if it's possible and what is the use of a sd card if my phone is filled up? Also I read with Astros file I think you can move some apps to the sd card??? Lastly it is not rooted. Eventually I may want to root my phone, just don't know which one to use since there are a few out there.
Thanks for any assistance.
Where are you getting the space remaining numbers?
Have you loaded music, pics, etc to the phone yet? It's pretty unlikely that you managed to fill the 16 gigs of internal storage up with apps, so I don't think that's your issue.

if you want to stay stock, just flash the superuser method
here, you can read up on the methods that i compiled in my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434
btw how are you reading your storage capacity? As in what is remaining and such..
if you have 6.7 on your sd card... well it sounds like there's is almost nothing on your sd card
I first would suggest moving your DCIM folder in your internal sdcard to your external_sd. also change the location for your pictures/videos to be save in your external storage in your camera app.
1080p videos are HUGE and each picture at the highest resolution is like 5mb?
if that's not the case.. probably just loaded with a bunch of apps or downloaded files?
you might be mistaking it for "SYSTEM STORAGE" which is simply 1 of 2 partitions of internal memory. 16gb = 14.1 actual GB... 12 goes to storage 2 goes to system. maybe your system partition is filled up.
Thanks! I actually changed my storage using my Astros file. I moved my gameloft and music to the external sd, so now it reads like this. SD Card total space= 7.40 GB available 242 mb. USB Total Space= 11.25 GB Available space=7.85 GB, System Storage=1.52 GB. So as for superuser, I need to learn more about that because I have no clue! I want to have a smooth running phone but more importantly more battery. Thanks for your info and any others that you provide.

Should I wait for ICS to come out first since I see many people feeling anxious about having to unroot and etc before they get it? Does it matter?

DCIM is your picture and video folder taken by your phone ising tge camera. ICS release could take a while so and even then I would wait for a rooted ICS rom before updating whoch typically doesnt take long after the official release so to me it doesnt really matter

Stock sucks regardless the source xD, and next question,
Go to their page in the forums and read them?
So im a rogers S3 user. I have a Sd card and internal storage of 16 gigs. currently I am running cyanogenmod...and for some reason I cannot view all the files of my internal storage. I keep moving pictures over to my SD card but not all pictures go nor do they even come off as what is being used in the internal storage. currently under miscellaneous there are 10 gigs of memory being used on what i do not know. any recommendations on how to lower this..should i just delete the entire miscellaneous and start new? its really confusing as I looked into my SD card and I had moved everything but i am not sure why the SD card is not showing all my pictures yet on my phone the pictures are somewhere yet i cannot see all of them from the internal storage either..any ideas?!
Well you can always transfer your stuff to a PC then go into recovery and make a nandroid. Then completely wipe everything, then restore your system

The thing is it looks like everything I save to sd is going to internal
Well just transfer everything you want from there onto your PC and wipe it all including your sd card if you have one. That's just what I would do I've never cared to mess around. I'll just wipe all then go from there, doesn't take long

So I know that out of the 16 GB about half is taken up by the Samsung apps I'm fine with that. My question is this it shows 9.72 total space and if I add up everything on the internal SD card I should have about 4.5 GB available although it shows only 3.2 GB left. Any ideas where I should look or apps I could use to help trouble shoot this. I am using the Dark-stalker Rom latest version. This problem did happen with the stock ROM as well. The only thing I can think of is I used folder mount to store some data from a few game loft games on my external card. Since then I have deleted the games and unpinned the folders to be mounted to the SD card. I'm at a loss and would love any input.
I attached a pic of the storage read out
Thanks

Do you use ClockworkMod Recovery and save your backups to internal storage?
That could cause this because the rom backup doesnt show on the sd card list you posted.

OK so yea I forgot I did a backup before I flashed this rom. Where would I find out where it stored. Im assuming I could then just copy it to the SD for now until I needed it for any reason.

Under settings , storage I get 2 gb device memory, 16 gb device usb storage and 16 gb sd card external storage and yet everything goes to the 2 gb partition... what the hell..?! I heard something about a wiping script. Im using the twrp recovery.. help?

Correct me if i am wrong, but with all android phones, the internal storage is partitioned. 2 gigs are used for downloaded apps, another couple of gigs are used for the system and the rest of the remaining storage is used for the downloaded data within the apps.
Also try moving some of your apps to the SD card. It will help free up some storage in that 2gb partition.

Ou might be right for the partitions but ive never had this problem before. I think something messed up perhaps the partitions? I moved all my apps to the sd card the problem is still there. The bigger storage in the phone just iant being utilized or sonething like that.. I was on the embryo rom for good 4 -5 months had ****load of apps and never had an issue.. been running jedi rom for a few weeks and encoutered this problem. It just doesnt make sence.

I had this same issue on jmt v5, I have no idea what caused it or how to fix it I tried everything, it's like the Rom won't store anything anywhere but the system partition, it's very strange, I switched to embryo Rom by Mohan, all the great touchwiz stuff, very fast and stable, only difference is no Wi-Fi calling, but if u can handle that go flash embryo, best touchwiz Rom I've seen to date

So, my latest adventure into rooting/flashing.
Wasn't happy with the stock 4.3 update, so decided to go back to CM (CM11 this time).
Everything went well. Root, CWM6, CM11, et viola.
However.
CM11 stopped recognizing my 64gb micro SD card. I've had this happen before so I was poking around in CWM trying to figure out how I fixed it last time.
I mistakenly told CWM to create a 4gb partition. That was stupid, because CWM couldn't even mount my external SD at the time. Complete oversight on my behalf. Anyway, it said it "succeeded" but I still couldn't see my external SD in any way. Long story short, I figured out the ext sd card and reformatted to fat32, making it totally visible in CM11 and CWM.
However, once looking at storage in Settings, I noticed my internal storage was smaller; about 11gb. It would appear I DID create a 4gb partition from CWM, but on the internal memory. The big kicker is that I can't find that partition anywhere! The phone works fine, but I'm missing precious internal space. I can't see the partition from CWM or any partition managers I download in the app store. Also can't see it if I plug the phone into my PC (win7).
I have some big MC2 reset tool I use whenever I want to go back to stock. I can never make up my mind between stock and custom, so I sometimes go back and forth. It's like a 1gb single flash that I install from recovery: it resets my flash counter and goes back to full unrooted stock. Would this fix my issue, causing me to have to re-root et al to get back to CM11? Or, would the fact that my internal memory is no longer the stock size/partition table cause a brick situation if I try to go back to stock?
Your internal storage is fine. You did not create any partition. Your phone has 16 gigs but you only get access to approximately 11 since your phone uses the rest for system, modem, etc..

Curious, since before I did this, I could see 16gb total storage in CWM (of course, with various parts of it being utilized for OS, apps, misc, etc). Also, I pull up my wife's stock GS3 and it also sees a total of 16gb available storage. Does stock ROM view internal storage completely differently? Does CM11 view it differently than other ROMs? If so, you'd think it'd be something widely known, or at least mentioned in the android community.
Edit:
Also, before this I could connect phone to PC, and PC would see 16gb total storage for phone. Now, it only sees 11.0 exactly. Awfully huge coincidence that there's now a difference in visible storage space that's close to the same size as the supposed partition CWM said it created for me.

Fascinating. It would appear CM and stock definitely show the available storage space differently. I'm officially ready for bed!
