Black Screen - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Xperia play has started an annoying trend of having a black screen. Usually I took the battery out left it a while put the charger and battery in and the screen would work. however the screen is not working. The light on the power button is indicating it is working but when I press the power button it just vibrates. I haven't altered any running programs in anyway. Anyone know what to do?
Thanks in advance.

Don't quite understand your situation.
Firstly, are you on stock or have you done anything with your phone (roms, bootloader unlock etc). have you installed a recovery?
secondly you mention this has happened before & if you do a battery pull it works fine?
at times when your battery is so used up, it takes a while for the phone to come on.
charge the phone for a while when it's switched off & then try turning it on.
Technically, since the charging light is coming on & the phone vibrates, and more importantly since this has happened in the past, it shouldn't be "bricked" unless the situation gets worse

I was in the same situation mate, i have flashed it to stock, relocked bl flashed it with wotan, connected it to the charger.. but anyways if i turn it on it vibrates and the screen was still black. No Sony Ericsson Logo!
I have send it to SE Service, they repaired the screen.. btw.. its the same screen with same scratches as before.. until now i dont know what was the problem

Dont worry i have figured it out.
To everyone else who has this issue i have put a step by step below.
Plug charger In and wait for sony logo to appear
Once sony logo comes up leave charger in but take battery out
then when screen goes off put battery back in
Thats it the phone will then boot without taping any buttons, just remember keep the charger in all time when starting up

thanks guy, I had this problem and tried just about everything. this worked great
i gave my sony xperia L to a family member, also the power button has given up due to wear and tear. i happen to google this page to look for answers, it did not work, but made mine work but not this method, for reference sake ill post mine it might help others.
1. phone is off, with battery on, insert charger cable slightly and remove it quickly enough to power it on, the red led will lit up.
2. wait for sony logo then remove battery while in the logo.
3. wait for 10 secs before putting back the battery.
4. do again the first step 1. but this time the red led must not lit up, but a sony logo only will appear then it will turn on, if the red led lit up means it will not turn on but a battery icon will just show up, so repeat the step 1, and be ready to remove the battery when the sony logo appears. just do it repeatedly, sometimes it takes 3 times to make it work.
its kinda messing up the system for it to boot up, probably will work with other units just find the right combination. then install a shake app or proximity on off app so you can lock and unlock the display.
It Works.

[Q] XPERIA ZL blank screen with constant white LED blinking

Hello everyone,
This is my friend's ZL. He just came to me for help. His phone suddenly went blank, and the notification LED keeps on blinking at an interval of ~7-8 sec. The phone is EXTREMELY hot now. I tried pressing the power button to no avail. Pressing power + volume up also reveals nothing. I tried to charge it for around 30 minutes, but still nothing. If else, it gets hotter....
Now my guess is that this phone is currently stuck inside the android OS itself, with the white LED blinking from his previous notifications. It just stops, froze, and I must wait until this phone ran out of battery and I'll try to charge it to see if it will revive. My other guess is it's stuck somewhere while starting up and those white LED blinking means something..... Until then, anyone else have the same problem?
Btw, this phone is pure stock. No modification done, not even root. ROM updated to the last version as of today (July 18, 2013).

Maybe try the reset button under the sim cover at bottom of phone..... did it go funny immediately after the update? If so, then the update must have failed...

Thank you for this solution, I was having the same issue, I caled the company's call center they said it was a factory issue, that I needed to take it to the workshop. I was sad for being without my expensive new phone during the year end. But this button fixed it inmediately.
I was uploading a picture to share and it got stock, it's a pictured I downloaded where I was tagged on facebook. After resetting the phone, I tried to share the same picture and it went black again. Definetily there's something wrong with the app I'm using to share or the file. Maybe that's something I'll look for the solution in another thread. Thank you!!!:good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
HELP.. ZL Wont turn on!
Hey guys,
I am facing exactly the same problem on my xperia zl.. (Updated to 4.3 yesterday no problem whatsoever during and after update (Official release)
Since today morning the display is black no activity by pressing power button Batter was fully charged to 100%.. (No Battery Issues)
Only the white light is blinking wont turn on I tried everything.. (Volume up+power button, Pc companion, SUS is not detecting)
No vibration no sign of display coming to life only white light blinking at an interval of about 6 seconds..
Reset button on the back is also not working..
What will be the cause?
(Btw Phone is stock no rooting modding etc..)

Broken Display?

ok so here is the rundown
Device: HTC one on vzw
Rom: Slimbean 2.x
Gapps: Slim AIO gapps
had a weird problem with the display today if anyone has had this or know someone who has i would greatly appreciate the help. I just flashed Slimbean 2.x last night and all was good. no problems what so ever, got everything setup and was working fine. this morning around 10am i opened snapchat to view a video. i clicked on the video and as soon as it started the screen went blank and would not turn on. i tried holding the power button down for at least a minute and nothing. also tried power and volume down, power and both volume buttons, power and volume up and still nothing seems to work. when i plug it into the wall charger the red LED light does not turn on and screen does not wake. when i plug it into the computer the computer does not ever read the device and noting pops up letting me browse the files on the phone. i have no clue why this happened it has been working fine for the 3 months that i've had it. took it to verizon about an hour ago and they didn't know either but they are sending me a replacement htc one. all i really want now are my photos that i have on the phone.
does anyone have any ideas about what i could do?
thanks
I had something similar and think it was conflict related. After installing the "advanced power menu" with xposed, I had an issue when trying to use it to boot into recovery. Basically it had timed out and then went away without rebooting. The next time I tried it locked up and my screen went black. My keys would light up if I clicked on the power button (it was dark in the room so the sensor was still working), but nothing else. Nothing I did would make the screen turn on at all and holding down the power key to reboot did not work. I just planned on letting the battery die out. After about 45 minutes, the phone just rebooted and everything was back to normal. I really think it locked up due to a conflict similar to what a PC might do.

Phone heat up without turning on + black screen when turn on

Hi,
I dropped my phone yesterday in the water. I was able to turn it on but the volume button was messed up, so I put it in some rice overnight. Today, in the morning I tried to turn it on and it was stuck in the booting LG logo. I turn on safety mode and then turn it off to get it working again. It was working fine until afternoon. The phone screen went black but it is still working (i was listening to radio and it was still on when the screen went black) I took out the battery and put it in to try to turn it on. LED flashes, it is working but still black screen (I was able to accidentally dial voicemail). The phone also heat up with just the battery inside the phone. It heat up even more when it is "turned on". Is this a hardware issue? Does anyone know how to fix it? I tried the volume down + power, take out battery and reinsert. Nothing works... I know this is a long post, I really appreciate anyone that took the time to read it. Thank you.

Yeah, sounds like a hardware error. Not really much you can do except get a new phone. Sounds like it's sustained water damage, despite that you put it in rice.
