How to disable phone number from showing @every incoming text message - HTC One X

Hello there,
First time I'm using an HTC device and I have this thing bugging me where when texting a contact that I registered his Home & mobile phone, in front of every text he sends me, it writes his phone number and (Mobile). This is pretty much ugly-annoying & I'ld like to know if someone knows how to disable it without having to use a 3rd party app for sms.
I don't know if it helps, but I'm using the Canadian version with LTE and no Quadcore.
Thank you!
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium App

Would also like to know if its possible. it is pretty annoying. other than that I don't mind the HTC messaging app.

Strange.
Don't have this on international version.
Mind posting a pic?

on the left is someone in my contacts, it displays their number beside each msg even though it says at top the person and number it is from.
on the right is someone NOT in my contacts, it displays fine.

It has done that with everyone in my contacts so far.

ok heres the thing.
I unlinked one of the contacts Facebook contact and it removes the number and just has the bubble like it should be. I relinked the Facebook contact and it then adds the number again.
so it must be a bug or something.
at the top of the screen it shows area code 416 as thats the contacts mobile number (set as primary).
facebook adds a number as Other with +1416 and that is what is showing up in each sms.
edit: I have another contact with no country code +1 or facebook number but contact still linked and it shows the number in the sms as well. So its just that they are linked, not that there are additional numbers added.

Ive just had a look and I think it only shows when you have more than one number for that contact.
Check sms from contacts where you only have one number.
Steve

This has got something to do with facebook.
I don't sync my contacts with facebook and none of my text messages have a phonenumber in the bubble.
Even my contacts who are listed with more then one number.
If it really bothers you, stop syncing with facebook. Turn syncing contacts off in the settings.

+1 agreed with this. it groups all SMS from one contact but uses the number to differentiate.

This happens to me ONLY when texting a contact that has more tb
Han one number and it's NOT the primary number

Sorry. Deleted. Wrong stuff.

Meh. Looks like it is multi numbers and not fb. Fb adds multi numbers if they have them in their profile tho.
Had a fb linked contact with 2 numbers from google contacts, removed one number and it removed the number in SMS.
So dumb.

The logic is probably that you would want to know with which number the person has sent you the text.
Now how many of the contacts have multiple numbers that can do text? Not me...
But from that logic, HTC is not wrong.

I agree. I have contacts with work/home/mobile but obviously can only send sms with one number. I ended up installing stock ics app which is much nicer. Apparently doesn't do mms when being used on this phone but that isn't a problem for me.

For me this is a nice feature.
Many of my friends own more than one sim card (e.g., one office and one private).
I cannot count how many times I've sent messages to the wrong number just by clicking reply.

Nothig to do with Facebook
Its when a contact has multiple phone numbers (even if not all are mobile). The app will show the phone number to inform you the text came from one of their specific devices.

Contacts

hello everyone,
I finally got my desire this monday and being playing it all the time.
I have all my gmail/facebook/phone contacts under the people menu and i have filtered them as phone/with numbers only. everything looks nice, but when i try to send sms to multiple contacts it shows all my contacts, facebook/gmail. how can i fix this?
and to have my contacts sync automaticly i want to "convert" my phone contacts to gmail contacts. is it possible and if yes, will the facebook links will be stored as well.
thanks for answering in advance!
ps.in order not to get "google it" comments i did heavy searching but as the words are like people, contacts, desire, sync it is almost millions of results, mostly unuseful.
What do you mean by 'it shows all my contacts'
Do you mean in the Messaging app or in the Contacts app??
Contacts has everything linked into it Google+Facebook, your phone will link Google with the contacts on your phone so you always have your contacts on your phone and Gmail.com, Facebook contacts wont show up on Gmail.com and the pictures from Facebook wont show up on Gmail.com regardless of if they are linked to contacts on your phone or not,, i hope this helps a little bit

In messaging app. I just want to see my gmail/phone contacts, not the facebook contacts as it is in people app.
Also is there a way to just import gmail "my contacts" rather than "all contacts" as all contacts include all the email addresses you have used so far in gmail.
Thanks
If you open up Gmail.com and click contacts usually you can have a play around in there and move/delete certain contacts and thatll then sync with your phone
and as for messageing, do you mean;
'im sending message to 5 people and it shows the 5 seperate people in messaging'
or?
'its showing messages i have received on facebook as well'

I mean when I am goign to send texts to multiple recipents in messaging app, in the recipent selection windows, where you tick the people, I am getting the list of all contacts, including facebook emails and mobiel numbers. I don't want facebook but gmail and phone contacts.
Was it more clear this time?
Thanks for the superquick answer btw.
I get ya know
out of curiosity, your facebook, did you select sync all contacts or sync only contacts on phone?? (this has happened to me in the past) also if your facebook contacts have phone numbers listed on facebook itll try synching them as well
This time it is me who didn't get the question.
Are you asking if Facebook is selected under the sync menu? In sync menu. myfacebook, and gmail accounts are selected.
I just don't want my facebook contacts(numbers and emails) under the messaging app and "phone" menu.
if you go into the sync menu and click on facebook is it only synching with contacts in phone, or all facebook contacts?
There are only 3 options under Facebook under Sync:
Account settings(just selecting the sync frequency)
Sync live feed
Sync contacts
I can only select or deselect the last two, so I don't know where to look if it syncs with contacts in phone, or all facebook contacts
Go into the facebook app and on the main menu screen press Menu (on phone) and click on settings have a look in there at the bottom for 'other settings' and there should be an option for sync contacts, bringing up this screen;

if this helps any??
Now I understand you
But under the other settings it is only "Helpful Tips". Maybe it is because I am using the default facebook app?(for htc sense, that was preinstalled on the phone)
Maybe,,, it might be worth having an quick install from the market and seeing if this changes anything
other then that this might be a 'feature' in the official HTC ROM,, i never checked it though and rooted and installed a Cooked ROM 2 days after purchase
double post*
i will try the app from the market!
The app in the market comes as an update to HTC sense one, it didn't change anything as I can see.
I will try something on my own now
Keep us updated mate as there might be more out there having issues
after hours of googling and calling htc hotline:
you can't link your phone contacts to facebook contacts and keep just facebook contacts out of your "phone" and messaging tabs.
i will spend some hours on my gmail contacts and add photos manually, remove facebook sync at all.
Dang!
i have to admit that sucks,,, i like the sync contacts only in phone so some of my contacts have pics but other then that,,, that sucks!
Give it a week or 2 and someone will have Cooked a ROM or made a MOD to fix this issue

Google Voice voicemails in Phone app

During the Nexus/ICS unveiling in Hong Kong it was mentioned that while using Google Voice, all voicemails would be shown in the Phone app (alongside missed and recent calls).
They made note of a new API that allows all voicemail services to "plug in" to this functionality.
Have they not enabled this yet for the Google Voice app? I can receive voicemails through the GV app, but they do not show in the Phone app.
Maybe it's something wrong with my setup?

I didn't even know they announced that. My voicemails certainly do not show up in the call log. Although, it would be pretty cool if they did.
hey that's a good question, what happened to that feature? i watched it at the event and it looked awesome. your voice mail played right inside the call log. i havent even heard anything about it since then...

wow. that look awesome! I would love to have that. The google voice app is not very pretty/user friendly. This method is much more elegant.
Yeah, the GV stuff really could stand to be more fully integrated with the OS. For example, wouldn't it be SWEET to receive SMS via GV and then have an option to just send those messages to the default SMS application on your phone? At the moment, there isn't really any good/friendly way for 3rd party apps to interact with the GVApp. +1 for more GV OS integration!

Kinda like iMessage where it is all integrated...
I read somewhere awhile back that they were totally redesigning the GV app...maybe that's what they're waiting on?
Still waiting on MMS support. I hate that when someone sends me a picture message it simply goes into a black hole with no bounce notification to the sender or notification to me that one was sent

True, but all replies to the original incoming SMS will be sent from the cell number and not the Google Voice number.
From what I understand the ability to integrate voicemail into the phone app exists in ICS already but the carriers or an app has to write code to make it happen. So yes if google chose they should be able to use the API they wrote into ICS for GV and integrate it...I for one hope they do, having to go to GV for voicemail suks.

[Q]: How do I remove duplicate contacts from "Phone" app.?

Hi everyone!
I've had my One X for about a month or so and I'm really enjoying my phone! Although there is one thing that really bugs me! When I want to send a SMS to a new contacts, or call a person, every single contact I have shows up. That means both Google, Facebook and SIM contacts. The funny thing is, they only show up in the "Phone" app and the "SMS" app contacts list. If I manually go to "Contacts" app, then only the SIM-contacts show up. I really only want my SIM contacts showing up there.. Is there any way of working out this problem? Here's a picture showing the problem: imgur-dot-com/ZxEGo
Thanks in advance!

You can "manage" contacts at: on your phone, go to People, select Menu (3 dots on top right) and select "Manage contacts". There you will find options for "De-duplicate contacts" & "Merge contacts". Use Merge contacts if you have multiple accounts synced.
Additionally you can go to each contacts and "Edit" and link them to their duplicate entry.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately there is no way to remove these additional numbers unless you disable contact syncing from within Facebook. It's especially annoying when someone changes there number but doesn't update it in Facebook. You then end up two numbers for one contact and don't know which one is correct

Group SMS

Am I just doing it wrong, or does sending an SMS to a group of people just not work the way you would expect? When I send an SMS to a group of people (using GO SMS or the default app), each person's reply comes in on it's own thread, and there is no way for a person to reply to all. Recipients also cannot tell who all the initial message was sent to.
TMO has a group SMS app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zipwhip.zipgroups.sidekick, and I know people that use it, and it seems to work, but when I install it on my SGS3, it never works (it errors out when "setting up the phone"). It seems this app is only for the SIdekick??? Why it is specific to a single phone is beyond me. I have also seen other apps that work, but they all require everyone to use the same app (WhatsApp, for instance).
There is a setting for MMS Group Chat in GO SMS, but it doesn't seem to do anything for organizing a thread for multiple recipients. In fact, I'm not sure what it does.
Stock messaging app doesn't do group. It sends them separately to each so when they reply you get separate replies. But go SMS pro fully supports group chats. Been using it for quite a while now. Below are the settings you need to check.

Thanks. I have tried those settings, but it didn't seem to work. I think the 3 minute message grouping is what is messing things up for me. I don't always get replies within 3 minutes. I guess I will mess with it some more.

And can a recipient hit reply and will the replies go to everyone, or just me?

It'll go to the group chat thread assuming their phone supports it. Its like being in a chat room. Everyone can see everyone's reply in one thread.
But if their phone doesn't support it then it will send separately

[Q] Contact List Problem

Ok... Please bear with me here. New Cell/android user SIII. I had the only contacts (6) I wanted in my phone which is associated with my Gmail #1 email address that is registered with my SIII. It was fine. I don't use this phone very much. The other day I turned my phone on and I had my entire Contact list from my GMAIL #2 account in my contacts list... All 160 of them plus the Gmail #1 (6 contacts). I must have did something in the SIII that brought all these contacts from my GMAIL #2 into my SIII Phone. I don't want this. I tried deleting one of the Contacts from GMAIL #2 from the SIII and it also deleted it from my GMAIL #2 email contact list on my desktop computer. I certainly do not want these contacts in my phone.
The questions here are...
How can I delete all of these contacts from GMAIL #2 from my phone Contact List in the SIII without deleting them from my original GMAIL #2 account.
What did I do to make this happen? I'm sure it just didn't get this way. I must have did something.
Finally: Is there some sort of Manual for this phone/android other than what I got with the phone? A practical Hands on/How to use this phone?
Tap menu and then scroll down to accounts. Have a look in the Google and Samsung accounts.
Should have options for contact sync.

Go into settings and under the accounts area click Google and remove the #2 account which should remove those contacts you don't want on your phone, then you can add the account back but when you do make sure the contacts box is unchecked when it gives you the options of what to sync. That should work for what I believe you want to do

Contacts Thanks
Thanks for the answers. I deleted the GMAIL #2 account and that solved the problems and saw the settings. I must have synced them. Now... If I bring the Gmail #2 account back on and do not sync the contacts but check to have my email only show up (Checked) on my phone will that be ok. Also... Can I just add contacts to my phone and unchecking Contacts to email #1 or #2 Contacts? I would like to be able to check my emails on #1 & #2 but just manually add contacts.
Thanks again...

Wait, you have only 6 contacts you want in this phone?!
Honestly, it doesn't really matter how many you have in your phone, you never really have to page through them to call people. Just go to the phone dialer and start typing the number associated with the letters in their names. They pop up automatically. I have like 2200 contacts because it pulls all my work email contacts in automagically. Don't stress it, its easy to find.
Alternatively, you can always just put those 6 people on your home screen, or star them and put them in a widget....there's a lot of things you can do to isolate them.
For a good Android manual, I suggest Androidcentral.com Android 101 : http://www.androidcentral.com/tags/android-101

Ya if you go back to that same Google section In the settings then and select one at a time and uncheck the contacts box and just the emails you will be able to have both emails with none of the contacts and just add them as you want. But remember most likely whatever email you set up first will most likely save whatever contacts you add to the phone going forward
