N7000 S-pen alternatives - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Accessories

I've recently discovered that the N7000 S-Pen isn't some magical new technology but in fact the same kind of inductive stylus that's offered with many older tablet PCs featuring Wacom digitizers.
I'm now using a Toshiba Portege stylus (cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170808932694) from eBay and I was previously using a HP TC1100 stylus (cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220871875156).
Apologies the above aren't links - I haven't made enough posts to include direct links yet so you'll have to copy/paste.
The advantage of the Toshiba one over both the HP one and the original S-pen is that it comes with an eraser tip at the other end which actually works as an eraser in the S-Memo app.
The button works just like the S-pen one so the usual screenshot/memo shortcuts work fine.
A word of warning though - I've also tested a Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet which did not work and don't confuse the TC1100 with the earlier TC1000 model which used a different battery-powered pen.
In short, if a tablet PC uses a Wacom digitizer and the pen does not require a battery then I think there's a very good chance the pen would also work with the N7000 Galaxy Note.
If you find any other good ones that work, it would be worth posting a reply on here so we can build a list of compatible ones.

I tried the Stylus from the Hp tc4400 (think its the same than urs) and from the Lenovo x??. Both worked great. I think every Wacom Display pencil will work.

I use the TC1100 pen, and it's fine.

[Q] Styus Question

Is the stylus is special like the ones you get with a Tablet PC or is just a plastic tip. Hoping for the plastic tip even though the other can be programmed sometimes.
I ask because I have 2 awesome stylus that I have put away a few years ago when everything became 'touch' with your finger .. Being I am in the jewelry business I have a Tiffany stylus and also one that a jeweler made for me from an antique pen .. the tip is ivory .. Thought I would never get to use these again.
Diane
It is special
Wacom digitizer.
Thanks. I think that my HP Tablet uses a Wacom Digitizer pen and I never use my HP tablet any more .. Laptops seem so big to me since the iPad and my Galaxy Tab.
'Some' Wacom Pens will work with the Note as will 'some' Tablet PC that supports Wacom.
Best thing about using these pens is:-
1. They are much easier to hold than the Note's S-Pen (the button is difficult to locate and press).
2. A lot of Wacom Pens (especially those found on Tablet PC's) have an 'Eraser' on the opposite end. This means you don't have to go back to the menu to select the eraser, you simply turn the pen over and use it as an eraser.
Well, not all Wacom styluses work. The Wacom Bamboo ones don't work with it.

I can tell you that the stylus (with eraser) from my ancient pre-Intuos Wacom digitizer (ca. 1997) does NOT work.
my wacom intuos 3 pen does not work
Okay.... I've amended my post to the word 'Some'.
I'll recontact my contact at Samsung and ask them to clarify.
I have a HP Pavillion tablet notebook .. Maybe 3 years old. That pen worked on my Note ..

We need an alternative stylus pen thread!

I'm pretty sure once we're all spoiled by stylus, we'll be desiring bigger styluses that will work with our phone. So anybody tested alternative Wacom styluses on the phone yet? So far the one that doesn't work according to another forum I read:
Works
Fujitsu T4210 tablet stylus Link
HP TM2 tablet stylus
Motion Computing M1400
OQO 02 stylus
Toshiba m200 stylus
Does not work
Wacom Bamboo
Intuos 2 Link
Cintiq Link
Intuos 3
Anyone here lives next to a Fujitsu or Wacom store able to test the rest for us?
Does work:
Motion Computing M1400
Which works with the Fujitsu ST5112, so by extension, the stylus for ST5112 should also work.
Does work:
1. OQO 02 stylus
2. Toshiba m200 stylus
The erazer on the other end and the buttons work as well!
I wonder which of these are the cheapest?
No one else tried other stylus?
pago sketch works good but it wont have any button....
My HP Compact TC1100 tablet's stylus works, along with the button. At some point I'll try out the eraser end too but I currently don't have that stylus with me.
Any stylus made for Windows tablet pcs--wacom stylus for those devices will work.

Aww man, I love the Intuos pens. I guess I don't even have to bother trying them now...
Can anyone recommend a good pen/stylus combo?
Cheers.
I am using a Fujitsu T2020 pen on the Note. It works perfectly! Size is right for me at least, tip is responsive on the Note, button on the pen works as it should, AND the eraser-round-tip on the other end works, without having to choose the eraser icon manually. Just flip the pen, the eraser appears.
My T2010 is a Wacom Penabled.

Is there a compatible S-Pen for the G-Tab 10.1?

I'm wondering if there is a fully compatible S-Pen for our P7500? If there is; could you recommend one, and share your experience with it?
Thanks in advance!
S-pen no
capacitive stylus yes
I have a styluys and it works but the tablet also detects your wrist on the screen and it doesn't work too well
There's something with Galaxy Note's screen also so you can't make use of the S Pen and that is why they are pushing Note 10.1 also....
The S-Pen uses a wacom digitizer for higher accuracy and to detect pressure. The hardware to use an s-pen is simply not there. So no there is not a comparable pen though like the others have said you could use a capacitive stylus.
I also searched 4 a while but the missing Hardware is the problem. i bought the normal Samsung stylus. it hasnt the precision of a d-pen but its okay..

Yeah hardware won't allow for that. But I just upped this thread you might find it helpful.

Wacom Pens - What will and wont work.

Hi all,
note: I understand this topic has been flogged to death and there is quite a bit of confusion spread over the net about pen compatability. Hopefully this helps.
I have not got a SGN10 yet but and looking forward to getting one as soon as my tax return cheque clears.
I thought I would share what info I have found researching wacom products.
Below is an email conversation I had directly with Wacom Australia.
Hi,
Yes you are correct in your pen knowledge.
The Intuos and Cintiq nibs will fit in the UP-818.
The Standard nib is the hardest.
The Stroke nib is made of the same material as the standard but has a spring
in the nib giving it more travel.
The flew nib has a rubber core with a plastic sleeve giving it 'flex'.
The felt nibs are the softest and wear down more quickly.
Hope that helps.

Subject: Pen and nib questions.
Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which uses a wacom
digitizer. It is my understanding that this is compatible with penabled
stylus' which also includes pens from the early UD series. (but not any
other series ie, cintiq or intuos* etc)
I am looking to purchase a pen designed for an IBM Lenovo Thinpad X60T
(penabled) laptop or a UP-818 from buywacom.com.au (U in the start meaning
UD compatible, therefore penabled compatible)
I feel comfortable in assuming that the above is true.
My actual question is; Are the nibs themselves from Intuos* or cintiq
compatible with the UD/penabled stylus'? I would like to compare the
different tip types. If they do fit I would be interested in purchasing a
Cintiq 1st Gen Accessory kit or similar.
From what I can determine there seems to be 4 tip types, standard, hard
felt, stroke and flex. Does this sound right? Please correct me if needed.
Can you please list the tips from hard to soft?
Thanks for your time.

In summary;
All penabled (wacom tabletpc computers) or UD (early series wacom pens with U in the first part of the part No.) will work on the Galaxy Note.
All wacom pen nibs (the little removable tip) are interchangeble.
I hope this information is accurate. (Please let me know if I have made a mistake.) I have a IBM X60T pen on the way for when my SGN10 arrives.
A couple questions;
Has anyone tested penabled/UD pens on their SGN10?
Does the eraser part of penabled/UD pens work?
I would expect only one button of multi button devices to work. Can anyone confirm this?
Hi,
Just to update, I did ing up with a lenovo x60 pen and it does work, but badly misaligns the hover cursor as it is tilted over, which the samsung s-pen does not do. The x60 pen also seems to not register gentle strokes to start with althogh it does for the end of the lines.
The eraser end works in s-note but not in any other apps I have tried it in.
Anyways, It was worth a try, but a waste of AU$29 due to the issues
I have tried the stylus from my Note phone and also from my 2+ year old Fujitsu tablet PC and both work. One note: you have to remove the S-Pen from its holder to get another pen to work.

This is not true. you only have to do this if you have battery saving checked under pen settings. If you dont have it checked you can use any wacom pen with the spen in its holder.

I tried the pen of my Toshiba Portege m200 Tablet PC from 2004.
The pen works fine, same for button and "rubber" part of the pen, they are properly recognized and interpreted.
My Intuos stylus definitely doesn't work, but I tried the stylus from my Lenovo W700 and the pen works with no pressure sensitivity but the eraser works fine. Haven't tried the Intuos tips but from my initial inspection, they look exactly the same as what you get with the Note (and they have a few different options).

the intuos tips don't fit into the default 10.1 s-pen unless you cut and file them down to size. (too long and too fat)
but once you do, they work just fine!
Good to know, they looked the same to my eye but I didn't dig out my Intous nibs to test.
Just tried an old Wacom Graphire stylus I had laying around and it doesn't work, neither does the stylus from my Wacom Bamboo Create.

the top ones (marked with the light blue) should work, as well as any tablet pc pens that are penabled by wacom
bamboo won't work, intuos and cintiq both won't work either
also, only the s-pen is properly calibrated and all 3 of my other tablet pc pens have a slight offset from the tip (but other than that they work fine, side switch and eraser and all). honestly the s pen works really nicely, though all the pens have slightly different pressure curves so it just depends on personal taste.
hope that helps!

same, they are irritating but still usable. mine are a fujitsu, a motion computing and an axiotron. If the HP and Lenovo are really properly-calibrated (EXACTLY the same as the S-pen) I might hunt them down?
I believe the reason your pen doesn't work unless you remove it is due to the settings>System(Pen)>Batter saving option being enabled.
I have the HP TM2 notebook and the pen for it works on my note 10.1. The eraser works in S Note but haven't tried it in anything else yet.
Got my Samsung digitizer (slate 7) pen today. Works as I had hoped, but it feels like it's just slightly off in comparison to the s pen. Enough to notice if attempting to line up the tip with a line/grid. Given a little time I'll probably just naturally compensate and adjust. It does seem a little more responsive than the Note's s pen which is great, and it's the same size as a real pen. Now if I just could just stop accidently pressing the raised control button! Mainly wanted it for the eraser function for a more natural feel.
I used to have a Toshiba M200 Tablet PC. I couldn't find the pen, but I did still have the little "emergency" stylus. Works just as well as the one included with the Galaxy Note. I am thinking about ordering the Samsung Series 7 pen. Looks nearly identical to the M200 pen.
I have try the pen comes with HP TC1100 on my galaxy note . and it works fine and nice , and I feel it better than the original one
sorry for my english
thanks
Got the samsung slate 7 pen today...the slight offset really bothers me even if it is just a bit. I'll return and stick with the original pen until I can find a better replacement. Good luck all.

Hello,
I was very disappointed that the Bamboo pens are not compatible, i'm using this tablet for sketching so i have to find an alternative pen.
I have searched on the internet, and Axiotron's pens are nowhere to find :crying:. On ebay, they have these Lenovo digitizer pens with an eraser
Have someone tested it on the Note 10.1, is it good ? Does the eraser work ?

What Wacom Pens/Styluses (if any) work on the Tab S4?

So I wanted to get another pressure sensitive stylus for my Tab S4 when I read somewhere that (on top of being based on Wacom technology) that some Wacom pens can work on Samsung tablets.
I tried a lot of googling, reading spec sheets, and so on when I ran across this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837743.
I'm not sure how accurate still is and, if it is still accurate, I'd like some clarification on which Wacom pens are being referred to specifically.
Basically, I'd like to know:
---Are there any Wacom pens that work on the Tab S4?
------If yes, what are they?
------If yes, does it provide similar pressure/tilt and navigation functionality as an S Pen? (Or everything an S Pen does outside of the special air wizard)
Thank you for your time

I assume so. Outside of the bluetooth multimedia control S-Pen.
As for the other guy, Wacom Digitizers determine tilt and sensitivity support, not the stylus itself. Since I tried the old Samsung stylus that I bought for my Note Pro 12.2 and it had tilt support in it, though it came out well before Samsung started implementing support for it. That's when I learned it was the digitizer under the screen determining those characteristics.
Has anyone tried the Bamboo Tip? I really like the construction on Bamboo pens but am not sure if this works on the S4.
