Sweet!

Is there a point in flashing new gapps when you can just update individual apps in the market?

Im gonna say probably not. Most of the apps most likely self update themselves. I know the market/play store does.

It includes more than just the individual google apps. Take a look inside the zip.

I'm on stock leak, so no flashing here, but sometimes I like to pull apart the zip, just to look.

This is the changelog from the update:
APKs and libs updated to 4.0.4 versions where available
Google Play Store's APK renamed from Vending.apk (Gingerbread standard) to Phonesky.apk (ICS standard)
Google Play Store updated to 3.5.16
Gmail removed as it is now available in the Google Play Store
I fail to see what is unique here that you cannot update through Playstore.

Then you obviously didn't look in the gapps zip. There are a number of system files in the zip that are not market apps. Why not take a minute to look? You might even learn something new.

Noobish question, if I'm running a themed, custom ROM what is the likely result of my flashing this gapp package? Will it alter the look of my app icons? Could it cause any conflict with something packaged in with my ROM?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think it will conflict with anything, but Im pretty sure it will change the color of the app icons to the default colors that are in the zip file.

[ROM] T989 || Stock || Bloat Free || Rooted || Su || Busybox = STREAMLINED [OCT 21]

Hey guys,
I released a stock version with everything in it last night with bubby, but people kept on asking me what's safe to remove and whats not. So I decided to upload the base I am using which is bloat free.
As usual it is Rooted / Deodexed / Zip-aligned / Su / Busybox.
I have kept samsung widgets for now. Refer to POST 2 for apps removed. Btw Gtalk with Video is also included in this rom
ROM is 262.73 mb in size compared to 311.70 mb.
Without further adieu...
ROM -- Link
Battery Addon -- Link
This is going to be perfect as a base for theme creators and dev's.
Special thanx to bubby323 for providing me with his updater-script. Battery addon was made via UOT.

Even so, thanks a lot for what you've done for us so far... Can't wait to see everything that happens in the next 1-2 weeks.

I wouldn't. Just pull your framework-res.apk and use the UOT kitchen to cook yourself battery mod and then flash that via CWM.

I would do data/cache wipe before flashing this since you will be coming from odex to deodexed version. You can always back up your data (user data not system data) using titanium backup and restore it later.

if you are going to make a new kernel would it be possible to make one that is compatible with the latest version of android tether so we can get past the "creating ad-hoc" error.
i installed wi-fi tether yesterday after rooting my device and it errors out when it tries to "Setting ad-hoc mode".
i looked up this error on other phones and it seems to be caused by some kernel incompatibilities.
also, how do we take screenshots on this phone? i tried power button+volume up/down and it doesnt work.

How do you install the new Swype Beta?

I want to try the new beta that was released today. I currently have Swype installed on my GS3 by default, it was pre-installed after the last update. How do I use the new beta? Do I have to uninstall the current version of swype I'm using? Will any issues arise?
I am using the new beta that came out today. It seems to be fine. You will need to remove the Rom version before you can install the beta. There is a procedure around here somewhere.
You can use something like root explorer to delete Swype.apk from system/app and you also have to remove the .lib from system/lib

Have either of you (or anyone reading) installed this beta and used it for the LIH leak? Because the stock version wouldn't automatically space while typing something in your browser. E-mail, messaging, etc. worked fine.

You need to download and run the beta-installer first. Once you run that on your phone it will download the actual aplication and install the full version for you.

You should be able to just run the Swype installer and have both the preloaded and beta run at the same time, however there is currently a bug in the installer that won't let you download the beta. On their website it says a fix will be released the week of October 22, I'd just wait until then and then install, hope this was helpful!

Seems Swype fixed their installer issues. I just installed Swype beta without removing the original Swype.

Exact, just PNG changes in the mms.apk., should work without problems in odex Roms... MMS.apk are about the same from Telus or TMO, i used both of them on my recent Roms and didn't notice any changes between both version.
Try this one, just make a nand before, if there's any problems you can go back. if it doesn't work i'll modify a tmo one for you!

Hi, great mod especially for amoled screens, unfortunatelly I have problem installing it in i8190.
When I try to install it gives me this error message (calendar and music):

I cannot uninstall the original apps since they are flashed in the rom. Any ideas?
Maybe flashable?
(benz rom by the way).

Strange. Probably we have different flashing archives, cause I didn't delete AOSP keyboard. After the L keyboard flashing I simply chose it as a default disabling AOSP one in settings.
Is root required? If it is, I'll just root this baby but figured I'd ask anyway haha

This archive is meant to be flashed via CWM or TWRP recovery. Not the stock one. I guess you can search the web for genuine .apk and try installing it as a usual app.
