Manually update PRL - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to manually update your PRL? I'm still using an alltel price plan so my phone is using an attell PRL. Can I manually load a Verizon one to see if I get a good enough signal increase to justify switching to more expensive Verizon plans?

I haven't tried this personally as I have no need to, my reception is great. But there it is if you want to try.

[Q] force roaming

is there any way for me to get my stock 2.2 epic 4g to force roam without rooting the phone?
I don't believe so. In fact this issue is what helped nudge me to learn to root in the first place. Do it, you won't regret it. It gives you so much more control over your phone.

You should be able to change to a verizon prl without rooting. There's a thread in dev section on how to update it manually. Check it out might be what you need.

Only problem is, will they get pinched for doing that by Sprint eventually since it's going to be on Verizon more or less always. And, it'd prevent them from getting proper data service. Unless there's a way to switch PRLs on the fly I'm not aware of.

No way to switch on fly and I've been using a 0001 prl for over a month now. And used roam control constantly for about two months before that and never had any issues with sprint.

I read somewhere that we get 800mbs a month on roaming before you get flagged, then i think they offer you an airrave cell tower, after that i think they terminate ur contract (free of ETF *wink* *wink*)
EDIT: which is why Roam Control rocks, solid 1x is better than nothing
Correct and people have been terminated for that reason. Just root and get roam control from the market. Its simple too root. And roam control works great. I find myself in areas with 1 or no bars of service and goes up too 4 or 5 when roam control is on

Should I be expecting an Airrave then, I stream hbogo and am on xda and other games all the time on a different prl? Can't beat getting free stuff. Only thing is it won't help me out at work

PRL Update

I just got a PRL update automatically pushed to my phone. I am now at 60683. On Evo I always had to manually check for updates so that was kinda cool.
Anyone else get this?
I got this update too. Was just about to make a thread and saw yours. I'm at 60683 and oddly have signal now in my office at work (which I never have). Not getting my hopes up yet, I will conduct a few more tests but I can at least say that for now, it seems to be giving me better signal from the new PRL
Yeah I got mine yesterday (well lastnight) Have not noticed anything different with this one though as of yet.
I'm currently on 61081 and I'm updating now to see if anything changes.
EDIT: Just upgraded to 61083. outside columbia, sc here.
That PRL should only affect Puerto Rico.
11/16/11: Sprint Releasing National PRLs Ending in xxx83
Sprint will release PRLs ending in xxx83 to servers starting Wednesday, 11/16/11. These PRLs will be released to drive additional cost savings for Sprint in Puerto Rico markets. There's no customer impact.
Sprint will proactively push the PRLs to subscribers with push capable handsets/PDAs. Subscribers with Mobile Broadband devices will need to accept the PRL update prompt via Smartview to receive the release.
I just manually updated to it and now my data hardly works anymore. Hmmmm.
At least so far ...
EDIT: it eventually got back up to regular crap data speeds. w00t!

You have 61083? Like the guys above I am at 60683.. Just updated manually
just manually updated to 61083 and now i don't even have 3g in my house where i used to get 3g at 1500 kps. now only on 1x sprint is really testing my patience....
manually upgraded and im in california
I manually updated mine, but my reception is really good anyway
I'm in class so I can't manually udpate atm, but I did notice that mine's on 60681. I wonder if this PRL solves the LoS bug that is related to roaming.
I'm sorry, maybe i'm dumb, but why would a roaming agreement affect your radio?

It is rumored to be related to roaming.

Got LoS twice in a row like usual anyways... Then the ghost LoS hit me for awhile after that. Oh well good thing I didn't set my expectations high.

Just manually updated mine, can't tell a difference right now since I have an Airave in my house lol. Will report back later if I notice any difference at college where i normally get little to no service. I doubt there will be a difference but let's see haha.
I just manually updated to 60683 as well. Herndon, Virginia. been on wifi all day though. hopefully it's better but I won't know until tomorrow

Updating PRL

So Today I thought I would begin my journey of updating manual PRLs. I have read all the guides 5x over, and am now just looking for a good PRL file. Are there any that allow us to use Sprint 3g/4g when available, and when its not, switch over to verizon 3g? Also, if I have read correctly, its safe generally to assume that if I use less than 2GB a month on verizon I am safe? Also, is using custom PRL files legal? I don't want to use a custom one if it isnt.Thank You!
That would be nice to switch over when we felt like it especially since roam control don't even work

Agreed. I would begin experimenting with PRL files posted for other sprint devices, but since I have never flashed a Custom PRL before, and my warranty is already used, I don't want to risk it without a recommendation on a PRL file from someone over here at xda.
Also, what is the legality of custom PRL files, I have no intention of doing anything illegal.

Using prl 12123 with RC in the New York/NJ region, and Verizon 3G will work on forced roam and when I've travelled up North to the Adirondaks.

Roaming on Verizon, with 3G Data&MMS?

I'm interested in being able to roam on Verizon, since Sprint is a POS at my school and home, and I'm constantly loosing messages, and data speeds are very sad. Anyways, I did a quick search and found a guide on changing the PRL to Sprint's "Corporate PRL" which apparently grants roaming with 3G data on Sprint, but it seems as if though that guide is old (Sept 19 from last year) and I'm not sure it'll work on my ROM (AOKP JB) So, does that guide still work? Is it safe? If no, what are my other options?
Also, how much minutes/texts/data usage would piss off Sprint? I've been meaning to switch for a while now...

It will work fine still. I'm doing it right now. I suggest flashing the Verizon PRL 00002.

I don't want to get too deep into this since there is a PRL thread in the forums, but doesn't that one force you to roam all the time? Sprint has a roaming limit of something like 200MB a month; if you go over that they can and frequently will cancel the rest of your contact. Some people do that on purpose, which I don't recommend or advise. If you just want to use your phone when you don't have much of a signal, use a PRL like 11115 along with the app Roam Control, that way you control when the phone roams.
yes.. oooo2 or w.e is a verizon prl roaming 100%.. i used the sprint corp prl i think 11124 or something which wasnt roaming while set to home only. but would have verizon 3g while in roam only with roam control which is compatible with jb now... however if using verizon eventually u will get a call from sprints roaming team.. and the prl thread is right. just need to be on a tw rom and when u go back to a aosp rom prl will stay until u update it

I use the 11119 PRL that works great when I'm roaming... I roam on Verizon with 3g data and everything, but I'm on Sprint the rest of the time. It works great.

yea... 11115 & 11119 are older versions of 11124.. 11115 did best for me.. got call from sprint but got my airvana back so no need to roam here anymore

What does a new PRL do?

Just curious what a different PRL could do for me. Would i be able to get better signal? Or possibly even use my phone in canada and mexico? Whats the point of changing it. Where do i go to find prl's?

a different prl means using specific antennas that spring doesn't want you to use. you can already use your phone abroad through your gsm radio. I wouldn't recommend changing prl unless you want to piss off sprint. they will see you costing them Verizon bytes and either cancel your contact, sue you, or put a hit out on you; most likely they will do the first two thought.
there is a benefit to UPDATING your prl this is a setting in your menus and it could help with speed or signal but if you are having to do this too much I would call sprint to yell at their local capacity issues
