[Q] Cannot install stock rom with RUU.exe? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

SOLVED!
I need to send my DHD to repair, so I want to make it (almost) stock. It is now ENG S-OFF, HBOOT 0.85.2007, radio 26.14.04.28_M, CID HTC_Y13.
I think I will let it stay S-OFF, so I would just install a RUU.exe.
I have tried with two different releases of RUU's, both RUU_Ace_sen30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.401.1_Radio_12.65.60.29.
The process stops at the moment when it says "ten minutes". It then shortly shows that I am not using the correct upgrade tool, which probably means that I am using a wrong RUU? What am I doing wrong?

it depends which country your in I need to know to help you.

I am from Denmark, I don't know whether HTC_Y13 is specific danish? It is also the CID of my newly bought Sensation

or If you want to stay S-OFF, then u can restore the original backup and unroot...

unfortunately I did not take a backup of the stock, I have just checked :-(
Actually I have the goldcard I used to unlock and root it. However, my vol up button is not working ( vol down is) - which is why it has to go to service.
Is there anything I can do with that when installing the RUU from Windows?
I might go the hack kit, I have never used it that way around. I just try to understand what the problem is about installing the RUU, CID? - the ext4, that it does not like (I am on ARHD, Gingerbread and Ext4 recovery)?
When I try to use the RUU.exe: The fault comes when it is going to restart to bootloader, then it says: "fault 155, fault when updating the image"

If your volume rocker is broken, maybe that is the issue, it stays pressed. You should try to flash a RUU from command prompt and fastboot, but first you have to get the PD98IMG.zip file....

Vol up does not act as if it is stuck, more like no reaction. The wifi also turned off a few days later, and I have seen that this is a normal fault, first vol up goes, then wifi - and that it takes a new board.
As said, I have the goldcard with a PD98img.zip on. There is a lot of ".img" files in that. Shall I fastboot flash to the recovery.img, that is within that zip, and then what?
Or do I need to find it from the procedure of looking at a temp-file when I try to install the RUU.exe?
Sorry for asking, but I think that I better double check in this situation

you can flash the zip file from fastboot...the img file you will be able just if you are ENG S-OFF
Just get the original RUU and then run it. maybe the PD98IMG.zip file that u have in your sdcard is not the correct one. Make sure that it is the one for your phone!!

Thank you - I am eng S_OFF
I am not sure I understand what you propose. Shall I extract the zip file from the RUU? What would the name be I should look for Can I fastboot a zip file, I thought it had to be an .img file?

not actually. I think flashing a PD98IMG.zip file is better and safer. I am just saying that you should try using the correct RUU.

but can I do that without using vol up?

You can flash the RUU with the phone in fastboot. Plug it in (you should see fastboot USB in red), have the file in the PC, open a cmd session as admin and navigate to where the PD98IMG.zip file is and then type:
Fastboot oem rebootRUU (you should get a black screen with silver HTC)
Fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip (when you get the okay in the cmd screen, ignore the green bar in the phone)
Fastboot reboot
That will flash the file without using volume rocker. Hope it works...

[Q] RUU restore for warranty fails: error 140. Anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I own a Fastweb branded desire and back key isn't working anymore.
So I'm tring to restore the branded official rom for warranty.
I got s-off and root and my gold card is in.
I've flashed the old modaco r6 rom to avoid main version is older and flashed downgrade hboot(alpharev) too.
When I start the ruu hboot 0.75 and old radio are flashed properly, but I still have custom splash and cwm recovery also system is untouched.
Ruu stops with error 140 bootloader problem.
I'm still able to flash custom roms and I can s-off again, but I really don't know what to do.
Any help?
Thanks.
Best regards.

Sorry mate, is there a way to change section?
jussy,
I had exactly the same problem so I'll answer even tho this is the wrong thread. You have to start first by extracting the zip file from the RUU. Run the RUU until it gets to the first screen then leave it there (don't close it).
Go to Start -> Run and type %temp%.
Find the temporary folder folder that's just been created (sort based on date) and find a file called 'rom.zip'. Copy this file into another location and close the RUU.

I've extracted rom.zip and renamed to PB99IMG.zip. tried to flash it in fastboot.
Flash process start but stops before finishing leave me in the same situation as before. If I want to flash it again gives me main version is older.
I've s-off it 10 times today and made many try.
EDIT: I've also tried to flash via fastboot commander the .img files in rom.zip but after that I could only access fastboot.
Now I've flash a generic ruu to make it boot.
Tbh mate I'm not sure how to change it lol.. mayb delete and repost in q&a..

Dude, don't flash the zip, just put it in the root of your SD, then switch phone off, hold vol down button and reboot into recovery, your phone will recognize the pb99img.zip and some options should come up. Follow the on screen instructions and you should be unrooted in 15 mins max.

Sorry for my bad english but what you said is what I've done.
1-root and s-off.
2-flash downgrade hboot(alpharev).
3-put PB99IMG.zip (extract as said from my branded ruu) on sd card root.
4-boot power + vol down.
5-It starts, step 1 goes well then at the end of step 2 screen became black and came back with 0.75 hboot s-on and if I try again it gives me main version is older.
So I can only reboot, reflash a rom and s-off it again.
Never ending loop...
Thanks anyway.

I've got my gold card already in.
Sadly there's only one ruu for my carrier.
I can flash a generic froyo ruu but it's not good for warranty.
I can't really help in terms of your issue.
If I remember right, I booted into the bootloader and switched on fastboot, then ran the RUU EXE making sure my phone was connected to my pc.
It eventually came right.
Saying that, after I got the stock ROM back on, my phone went ape (and to this day I have no idea why). Random restarts. Freezing. It was crazy. I had to upgrade the RUU for it to stay on properly. Was really weird.
There are so many threads about rooting for warrantee purposes, perhaps search them or go through thier instructions, cause I'm sure someone may have had the same issue.
Wish I could help you though.

Now this is the second time I bring it to assistence (last time was for vol down) and when they give it back to me it was updated to froyo.
I'm facing problem with 1.15=>1.21 OTA, installation is aborted due to status 7 (if some one can help I'll post the full error message).
Unfortunetly the ruu I've used is the only one from my carrier.
Will they know that my phone was updated by them and I'll lose my warranty?
Any idea about fixing status 7?
Many thanks.

[Q] Water Damaged Desire, screen flicking [SOLVED]

Hi, Im trying to fix my Desire after getting water damaged, I have spent some time disassembling and drying out, so know that all is dry, when I turn it on My O2 screen flashes on then dies out and restarts, staying in this loop. I can get into the hboot menu. so Im looking for help restoring my stock hboot?? I think?
The phone hasnt had any custom images loaded to my knowledge, so i dont think it will be rooted or ready to load custom images.
Anyway my phone details are:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
will it be as easy as finding the hboot and copying to my sd?
much appreciated.
EDIT: NOW SOLVED - Thread Summary:
Alot of useless information in this thread regarding my ACTUAL problem but still some good info on creating Goldcards. After completely drying phone out after getting wet, I reassembled and tried it out, and it just flicked the O2 screen up and restarted, after trying everything below I then found out I needed a new battery, thats all! lol, so this is incase someone else has a phone that acts like mine did after water damage, I have a link to a youtube vid of what my phone was doing.
Thanks to all who helped me get problem resolved, my phone is back!
Can you get to the fastboot?
If so try running "fastboot devices" is your phone recognized?
Edit:
Ah you're S-ON, then go to fastboot, try downloading appropriate RUU for your device and run it.
See what happens. (you might need gold card if you are branded)
I guess you cant get to the recovery?
You could have not changed your hboot if you are s-on. So there is not hboot which needs to be restored. If you are would be really damaged, you would not be able to power on your desire at all. The hboot is the absolute basis of an android phone (like bios for computer). If this gets damaged, your phone is totally bricked and not more than an expensive paperweight.
When you are able to access fastboot (start phone with pressed back and power button or boot into hboot>choose fastboot with volume buttons>enter with power button), you could flash a ruu. To find out which is the right one, you need to tell us wether your phone was branded or not and when it was branded, which provider you have.
Hi thanks for replies, I understand I dont need to replace my hboot as i can get into thue menu and i can get into fastboot menu aswell. Its branded O2 so where can I find an RUU thats suitable?
If you cant get into fastboot menu, you are pretty much screwed because RUU wont detect your phone.

ok i have downloaded that ruu, but its not detecting my phone. when i first turn phone on with vol- held i get hboot menu. one of the options is fastboot (already selected) i select that by pressing power button, then my menu changes to fast boot. then my options are: bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, power down. i left it at this menu while i ran the RUU, is this correct? also do I need to install any other software on pc? I have installed the HBOOT USB driver earlier while I was looking about, does this need removing? also my hboot menu when first run looks through files on my sd card, should i copy the ruu file to sd?

Yes, not touching the menu is correct.
No, you do not need to install any other software on your pc.
No, you do not need to remove the hboot usb driver.
No, don't copy the ruu to sd. I recommend to save important data on sd card (just in case). Just run the ruu on your computer.

Installed hboot drivers correctly:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Furthermore, check if you have only htc sync drivers installed.
The goldcard can only avoid the cid error, and has nothing to do with the usb connection.
When u use Unrevoked remove HTC connectivity from ur computer...
And u can use FastbootCommanderV.1.5 to patch HBOOT...
ok getting somewhere USb drivers must be screwed on my lappy, i installed on another machine and using fastboot commander I could connect in fastboot mode and got my phone details up, I then tried the RUU that you gave me a link to earlier and it successfully connected and attempted the update, although after about 2 mins it says that its the wrong version ruu. current version is: 2.14.207.3, one contained in RUU is 2.14.207.1 So what should I do now?
wow what crappy luck, you seem to have a new version so it won't let you downgrade.. bump from my end :/

No it will not. A goldcard can only help you, if you want to flash a stock ruu although you have a branded phone. When you do not have a goldcard in this situation, you get a cid error.

Yes and no. For the case, he wants the stock ruu, you are right. But he wants to use his warranty, so needs the ruu of this provider. But the ruu he wants flash is older than the one he is running now. So he cannot flash the the ruu. And this problem cannot be avoided by using a goldcard, because the hboot version has nothing to do with the cid number.
On this way I at least understand the matter. Correct me, if I am wrong.

Flashing Radio, I need help please. I am willing to pay for personal assistance!

My radio performance is pretty bad. I really need the new radio flashed to my phone to corrected radio issues.
Is there someone who understands radio flashing process well enough to walk me through it? I am willing to pay for the personal assistance.

Check in the zip file; you should have a file named 'radio.img' - extract this file and copy it to the folder that you're running fastboot from (if you're using the SDK this is probably the tools folder). The file must be named 'radio.img' for that command to work.
If that doesn't work, exactly what error are you getting?
Edit: or do what sslysi says if you're wanting that radio; everything you need's in the download from that thread.

This is exactly what I did. Extracted the zip file and copied out the radio.IMG file into android SDK tools folder. I don't remember the exact error. I will follow up with another post. I should have put it in my original post reporting the problem. Maybe I'm just too frustrated with all this. In addition I can never get my phone into bootloader using vol- and power button. It is my understanding that some processes can flash with ENG S-OFF. I tried a number of methods to achieve ENG S-OFF, but can't get there. I am open to suggestions.
Thanks again,
Are you sure you are rooted? Hold down the vol - button whilst switching phone on to enter the bootloader. Once there it will tell you if you have eng s-off. If not use the tool from the link I posted before. I successfully used this app to root my phone after I had downgraded my phone.

Help with flashing radio Desire HD
Hey,
I am an experienced and an advanced Android user/modder with a Desire HD. Here's how I flash a radio
First of all, you'll need to check if you're s-off. To do that, power off the phone, remove the battery, then replace the battery. Then, while pressing the volume down button, press the power button to start the phone in fastboot mode.
When the screen loads, check and see if it's S-OFF or if it's S-ON. If it's S-OFF, continue by following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054304
I'll summarise it for you according to my own experience for you. I'll assume you're rooted and S-OFF
1. Download the radio of your choice. Rename it to PD98IMG.zip
2. Copy the PD98IMG.zip file to the root of your SD card.
3. Turn off the phone
4. Remove the battery, then replace it
5. Press VOLUME-DOWN while pressing POWER ON at the same time. Keep holding those buttons and do not release them until the fastboot screen shows up
6. At this screen, choose the BOOTLOADER option using the VOL-UP and DOWN to select, POWER button to confirm
7. The phone should then be scanning the SD card for the PD98IMG.zip file. When it's done scanning, it'll install it automatically.
8. Reboot and enjoy!
Also, you might wanna check the md5sum key after downloading your radio to prevent corruption of data.
P/S- You don't have to pay me, just hit the thank button.

This is a much easier method to flash radios:

Just download the radio file of your choice, put it in the root of your sdcard and boot into the bootloader.

Thanks for trying, but already tried this method. Had to get into bootloader via command prompt, but it works, can't do it any other way. Navigated to the file and it started to load, then came back "failed."
I do have S-OFF and have been rooted. No ENG S-OFF.
Thanks again,

Help in solving bootloader issue

Please I have a peculiar problem, I pray you can assist me. I tried to root my telus dhd using advanced hack kit, after running the hack kit the phone failed to reboot. It stock at a blank bLack screen. To solve that, I mistakenly flash a froyo pd98img on a GB ROM. Since then, the phone takes about 20 to 30 minutes to boot. It will start with a splash screen and vibrate for about 10 minutes then takes another 10 minutes to boot. The problem is I can't enter boot loader and I can't use the hack kit again to return to stock since the phone won't reboot in the process.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks for your time.
And why exactly can't you enter the bootloader? Remove and re-insert your battery, Press Vol Down and Power button to boot into the bootloader.
Can you post the text that appears on the bootloader? Is your phone S-OFF yet?

Sounds like a messed bootloader. Go to the Ace Think Tank thread linked in my signature. Find the PDF in post #7. In that, read about the messed bootloader fix.

Yes, it's messed up bootloader. Yesterday on #ahksupport, @attn1 gave an adb command, which after typing it, The phone booted to a black screen with HTC on it. Then he gave me a link to a file which he ask me to paste in cmd window. But unfortunately he changed his mind due my inability to respond swiftly to his question.
I have found the PDF, will give it a try. Thanks
Update: This is the file uploaded to by @attn1 yesterday. I believe it's an extracted and unlocked bootloader. The only problem is that I don't know how to flash it. If anyone can assist me.

Just make sure you read properly how to do it before proceeding. Read the guide bananagranola gave you and follow the instructions. We can help with almost anything but conquering your fear. Unless you want glevitan to connect to your computer via teamviewer and have him press 'next'.

Ok, this is what you have to do. I sent you the pastebin link in the IRC channel yesterday but afterwards attn1 told me that that solution would not work in your case. You need to flash that HBOOT in this way:
Code:
adb reboot oem-78
wget https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13152450/ace/PD9812000_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hboot_0.85.0024.zip --no-check-certificate
fastboot flash zip PD9812000_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hboot_0.85.0024.zip
The code will also download the hboot....BE PATIENT IT WILL TAKE TIME TO FLASH...RELAX AND ENJOY

What should I do next?

that is normal as you don´t have a RUU in your phone. Does it still take long time to boot in hboot? from there you should be able to flash a RUU as that hboot supports multiple CIDs
I don't think it worked as he is still showing the .007 boot which is froyo.
Question why wouldn't your guide work in this case? Is it because of it being the nam version(pd12000 vs pd10000)? Hboot versions not interchangeable?or something else that as mentioned in the irc

to be strictly plain I am not quite sure..but Attn1 told me that the fix in the guide will only work with just one RUU build 1.32.xxx can't remember now. So he has to flash a new hboot that will allow multiple CIDs...

Just one question...when you flashed the hboot did you get the OKAY.finished in the command prompt? Your is still at slow motion for booting??
If the answers to the question are: Yes. No...then you can flash an unbranded RUU and it should work. :good:

No, I didn't get OKAY in the command, It didn't show finished. The phone screen just showed black with HTC written on it for almost two hours. Then eventually it rebooted to white screen withe info I posted above. Yes it's still at the motion boot.

Then I don´t think you have flashed the hboot....the process will take 2 or 3 hours I guess. You need to get OKAY. Finished near the end to know that you have achived the goal.
If you want I can lend you a hand via teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/) but you have to put the phone in fastboot usb first. When you are there just send me the ID and PASS over a Private Message (PM)...

Cannot access recover mode

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

I'm not too worried about getting a different rom on it, or rooting it or anything any more, currently I'd like to just put it back into a working state, as it was, probably locked to o2, if you've any suggestions on how to do that?

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.

I've unlocked the bootloader (although obviously I'm still S-ON and HBOOT 1.03), so how would I go about installing a custom recovery?
Everything I can find online implies I need to do it starting with the phone up and running...

You download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28277117
You extract the recovery.img from it.
You then use fastboot to flash it:
