I am running OMFGB now, and just came off of AOKP ICS #31. With both ROMs, wifi seems to hurt battery life, while on the stock HTC ROM, I got better battery life from leaving WiFi on. For the record, this is talking about WiFi always on, and always being connected to a network. Why does the stock ROM hanlde WiFi better?
I'm on aero ICS build and i get 2 days with limited use. I always keep wifi on and connected. I can't say, I get the same problems you do.

Hey guys and gals quick question-
I'm using a MT3GS rooted running Cyanogen 6.0.0 stable ROM and PDANet USB tether. My WiFi works great right after flashing the ROM, but anywhere from 3 hours to a week after flashing my wifi stops working and gets stuck saying "Connecting...". It does not scan or show any available wireless networks, only the one i have remembered. Turning wifi on/off and rebooting the phone don't solve this. I can reflash the rom or flash a recovery and it works again perfectly (until this happens again). Is there any way to fix this or prevent it from happening?
not sure if it will help but the cyano's 6.1 stable was released yesterday i am running it now and it is much improved
just noticed that, flashing now. i'll update if i keep having issues. Thanks
Just updated to 6.1 RC1 and the stability is improved 100x but after about 8 hours it disconnected then returned to the "Connecting...". The only way i could get it to scan and connect again was to reflash my recovery to the 6.1 RC1. No software other than my tether was installed. Any clue to what could cause this or any other fix besides restoring?
I've been having issues with my wifi tethering too. I'm running 6.1 like you are. I can get it to connect every time (although it does lose connection sometimes, but always comes right back up), but my speeds are very slow.
my speed and stability are much improved with 6.1 and I'm no longer having to reinstall the rom daily to keep wifi working. had to restore twice since updating but overall its much better. guess I'm stuck having to restore every few days but it beats every few hours lol.

just started running Epic exp. 2.0.7 last night because I updated to dk28 and Syndacate isn't running dk28 yet (Hope you guys have it soon!). Anyway, I am liking it so far, not much different than stock, runs good although today I used the wifi hotspot to connect a laptop and after 15 min. my battery went from 65% to less than 20% telling me i need to charge. Is it because of the rom? has any1 else noticed this issue or is there a setting somewhere i need to change? Also as a side note is there any rom similar to Syndacate for dk28 that i can run?
i know there is a syndicate rom for dk28.... i get back to you on that one in a sec.. and about u batte life? i have no idea but wifi tether can get alot of juice from the batt..

I've been using the unofficial CM10 nightly ROMs pretty much since they were rolled out. One thing I had noticed was that with this ROM, and only this ROM, my router would recycle the WiFi every 15~30 minutes. Turning wifi off on my phone stopped this from happening.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I love me some jelly beans but can't deal with having to re-sync everything in my house with wifi whenever I want to use it.

One question:
Your other devices (computer for example) still have internet while your dhd is connected to WiFi?
Hey everyone, just came over here from the HTC One X ( AT&T ) forums, smashed the screen on it and used an upgrade to get an AT&T SGS3, loving it so far. Had it rooted and custom recovery, and was on a custom ROM not even an hour after getting home. Anyway, onto the main part of this post.
I tried CM10 ( the 11/01 and 11/02 nightlies), both of the AOKP, and LiquidSmooth, and on all of them, my WiFi stability is not there. It seems to disconnect at random, if connect at all, and when i walk out of range of the router, and then come back, it will not automatically reconnect until i go into airplane mode. Trying to turn WiFi itself off and back on does not work - it won't turn off/back on, it sticks at what it was at.
TouchWiz ROMs, everything works just fine. I'm pretty sure it was working on MIUI as well, but i didnt have MIUI on there long enough to properly test it.
I am using the UCLH9 radio, since AFTER searching the forums pretty in-depth, i found that all radios prior to UCLH9 had wifi driver issues. Flashing this new radio did NOT fix the issue.
I have tried both stock CM10 kernel AND Ktoonsez's kernel (which is pretty freakin awesome, btw! :good: ) and still have WiFi problems.
I have tried flashing ROMs through both TWRP and CWM Recoveries, and have done a full wip of /system /data /cache and /dalvik-cache 3 times each before flashing a ROM.
I'm a pretty competent at flashing ROMs and troubleshooting problems, I am a pretty well-known beta-tester for multiple Sense and AOSP ROMs over at the One X forums, and I have a very good knowledge of how to work ADB and Fastboot. I've been around XDA for a little while, and I know the way of things around here. (don't want you guys thinking im just another a$$hole that threw a post up the second a problem occurred without doing some research first!)
If anyone has ANY ideas as to what may be causing the wifi drivers to crash, PLEASE fill me in.
I've tried all the same things you have and have had no success. The best wifi stability I got was the AOKP_d2att milestone1 w/ lean kernel combination, but wifi would stay connected for 3-5 minutes as opposed to 30 seconds.
I briefly tried CM9, but that still had wifi issues. I might try a few other ICS roms
I came across these threads that documented the problem across other phones:
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34942
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=36993
I've decided that I'm stuck with ICS until the official JB comes out.

Well, I flashed Intergalactic, which is a modded Stock ICS TW ROM based on the AT&T firmware. Shortly after, I reinstalled TWRP recovery and flashed task's AOKP with ktoonsez's kernel, and WiFi works!
This is similar to an issue we had several weeks back with CM10 based ROMs on the HTC One X, you couldn't get LTE unless you flashed a ROM based on Android 4.0.3, it was something with CM10 obviously, because it was fixed in one of the October nightlies iirc.
Try flashing intergalactic and then task and ktoonsez aokp and see if your WiFi is working and let me know

Nope, no luck this way either.
Wifi under Intergalactic works fine.
TWRP flash AOKP milestone 1 alone, with the ktoonsez kernel, or with lean kernal and my wifi still hangs after ~1 minute of inactivity. The phone grinds to a halt. If you can get to the settings, it says that I am connected to my router, but shows no signal bars. If you can then turn wifi off, the phone un-freezes, and (except for no wifi access), the phone is back to normal. If you now turn wifi back on, it stays up for another minute or two and goes down again.
I'm open to any other suggestions.
Thanks though
Avram
i am using task and ktoonsez rom....when i first installed it, i noticed wifi dropping, it was annoying.
kinda dont happen anymore. The only 2 things i can think of that might have helped me is; i flashed a new modem i747MVLLE8(I'm with rogers), and under Wi-fi(menu/advanced), i unchecked poor connections.
also my router is 2.4ghz and 5ghz band, but i am connected to the 2.4ghz band.
hope it helps somehow.
I had horrible dropouts and speed with my last WiFi router. I forget the name/model but it was a new model (released this year) that had great reviews.
I went back to my old router and all my wifi problems disappeared.
I do get dropouts once in awhile still. But I haven't done a clean ROM install in awhile.
Ive tried CM10 and AOKP Jellybean based ROMS with kernels like faux's, trips and ncx, but always had the same issue - Wifi kills my battery by evening.
On ICS Roms (ARHD and OrDroid), i was able to keep wifi sleep to "never"and it would use less battery than cellular data networks. While im at work, i need to use wifi since there no data coverage there anyway. With OrDroid on stock kernel, i currently get around 3hrs of screen time, 30 mins of Talk, and wifi is on for around 7-8 hours just for mail and chat.
Has anyone been able to use the wifi on Jellybean ROMs without suffering from a bad drain ? I dont think allowing it to sleep helps much since i would like to know immediately when an email or a Whatsapp message comes in.
Really would appreciate info on this. thanks!
Hoping for some clarification. Does anyone here run Jellybean Wifi throughout the day without significant battery drain ?
As far as I know, AOSP based roms always have less battery life than sense based roms. Are you able to flash any of the sense based JB roms? I used OrDroid v10 and v11 for a while and had excellent battery life and screen on time. That was with mobile data on. WiFi was even better.

Thanks for the input!
So it isn't a generic problem, and I must have had something else factoring in here. I think my CID is supported, but I haven't bothered updating firmware after reading one user review about poor wifi battery life in the ordroid thread.
Even on aosp jb roms, i had decent battery life as long as i didnt use wifi. Did you use wifi over an extended period, like the whole day, and still have decent performance?
If you're certain that ordroid delivers the same wifi battery life on jb and ics, ill take the plunge!
Thanks!
I'm stock and I haven't noticed any difference between ICS and JB. I'm usually connected to WiFi and always leave it "on".

Keep WiFi on during sleep: Always
Best WiFi performance: on
Ive been using pabx's JB Rom for any Hboot 4.2.1 AOSP and not having any issues with wifi drain on jellybean. Thought id post it here so anyone else searching with the same problem can try it out. In fact, i got 3.5hrs of screen time which is something ive never seen in my life!
The link to the rom is below.
