Hello everyone. I guess I am not wrong in running out of patience while waiting for Samsung to roll out the ICS Update to Galaxy S2, in India at least. I have been looking at ways to do that for my GT-I9100G but for some reason wherever I go to on google or youtube talks about GT-I9100 and not the build I need. Can anyone help me on this. My phone is running Build XWLC2, Kernel 2.6.35.7. Thanks everyone.

Hi Lavjain
The ICS update for the i9100G version officially out. It isn't available just yet in all countries, many countries have already got it. Im sure India too will get in a few days.
I suggest you keep checking out login to your twitter account and search for 'i9100g ics' in the searchbox and you will see the latest updates regarding it.
you can also follow the official samsung india twitter account @samsung_india
They will post the update when its out.
Its very frustrating to wait so long when the i9100 model gets the update and the 'G' users have to wait.
If you google the differences between the two, you will see that the CPU and GPU are slightly in terms of Speed. However the i9100g Never heats up like the i9100 model and Samsung has corrected some internal errors with the i9100 model. I personally find the i9100G better. Its more stable and never overheats.
which country?

Hi friend...
If you are still on stock, can you please connect your phone and check if the ICS is now available for the phone. I cannot check as I am on custom ROM. Yesterday My phone connected to the update servers and there was a tick on the notification area icon of updates. I think Samsung might have rolled out the ICS. Please check and revert.
Thanks in advance

if they're going to release JPH with release version number "JPH" im going to laugh
Dear Samsung,
Just give us the JPH source code and we will do the rest.

Except for the negative image for samsung if they deliver a crappy froyo release. I'm so afraid this is going to be disappointing for many people who expect their devices to be 4 times as fast and stuff...
I just hope for a proper stable release, preferably with the filesystem changed (but I doubt that's gonna happen) which just works good out of the box.
There too many weird bugs in JPH to be released as final. I had an alarm set,m removed it and it still went off later on the day. Apart from that other people reported tons of small and big bugs and issues.

Experienced the same on official jm2
I don't expect that much from official release. Moreover I can't understand the reason why they had to limit the ram amount in 2.1. Than about jit...hum do they know what is it?

There are no limit of ram in 2.1, the 2.1 sgs uses already have highmem support.
Its samsungs bloated firmware that reserve more than 200MB for itself.
why galaxy tab have 425 MB of ram ? hardware is the same. and why galaxy tab play 1080p videos ?
haha, just called samsung support austria and the guy told me that he doesn't know exactly when it will come, he can only tell me that it will be this year (most likely) ... *bad* samsung, *bad*
any idea what firmware I need to have installed for kies to detect a new firmware update incase one gets released.
I am currently using JM8 but thats after all not an officisl firmware so not expecting keys to find updates.

JM1 rev. 3 - you can install it via Kies faking some registry settings - all was descibed on this forum. No root, no lag fix. JM1 official is bareable without lag fix.

For it to update to Scandi/danish version.
Just read this. Looks like 4.0.5 may be out in a month or so. Wonder if 4.0.4 was just a test build maybe? Doesnt make sense that 4.0.5 will be coming out so soon after 4.0.5 was leaked.

Read the article. It is for the GSM version.
If this 4.0.5 update is real, I really hope Google has time to update the Android repos this time. Seriously.
It's embarrassing seeing Google promote the Nexus as the open phone and then release binary updates with no source attached, like it did with 4.0.4.

Oh ffs, 4.0.4 hasn't OFFICIALLY been released yet.
Exactly. It was a leak.
Couple things here.
SFR is the only company reporting it and has been before 4.0.4 was discovered.
Anyone find it funny a carrier announcing a software version for a carrier unlocked device?
Its not impossible as this is a Nexus device. It is unlikely though. Maybe its a typo? 4.0.3 was labeled as 4.1 on the repos at one point on accident. It shows in the commits.

Yes, I do not see why a carrier would claim to be rolling out a developer device ota, my bet is that it is listed by accident as its not their job to update, still think it may hint to 4.0.5 though, misadvertised or not
4.0.4 looked like a nice fix in a few places, but never was a complete rom, hope to see 4.0.5 as a nice full release to play with
4.0.4 seems to be for LTE only so maby 4.0.5 will be the GSM version.

Eh, I don't know, from what I have heard 4.0.3 was supposedly for the GSM Nexus so theoretically 4.0.4 should be Google catching them up so 4.0.5 should be for both....

I've never read that.
4.0.3 was the official platform release
it was the release for the galaxy S
Everyone assumed it would come to the gnex because why wouldn't it but obviously google wanted to fix a slew of issues first.
To be honest I couldn't care less what version gets released as long as the bugs get sorted out ASAP. Browser stability is a big drawback for me, especially on flash rich sites. Countless random reboots and other annoying bugs along with general "smoothness" of the OS is needed.
By the way I'm on unrooted stock 4.0.2 GSM GN.

Google classified 4.0.3 for Nexus S. Check the page.
Don't ever expect anything from French providers, they are way too slow and inefficient. (except Free which is a brand new company)
0.0.1 updates are typically device and location specific update.
According to who?
Last I checked, 4.0.4 included fixes needed for the entire platform, not just a specific carrier.

If they say they will release 4.0.5, given the fact that they modify the system, it means that they will / they already have the official 4.0.5. Which means we might get it before they release their modified version.

What are you talking about ?
Repos have been updated, source is available online for quite sometime, even gerrit is up again. People want the latest? Build from aosp master branch.
Are you saying that you want to download 7+ gb of source code with a OTA or a "leaked" update?
Or are you talking about getting source code of proprietary stuff, like gpu, camera, sensors, GPS? That won't happen, at least by what JBQ told us @android-building. It isn't nor will it be possible to build a update package for the nexus all from source code. And Google is still undergoing to get all the other binaries from hardware suppliers, since we only have two officially available of the five or six needed.

I really need the possibility to mount the pen drive on my GNEX without rooting it, I'm really bothered from this google "slowness".
So i bought the galaxy nexus and have bad service and signal loss alot like many others im on rogers in canada i heard that google is making the fix im running 4.0.1 my phone says im up to date when will google release the update
I dont know they dont usually give us that much heads up to let us know when an update is going to be available before it comes out best thing to do is check for update under about phone and if you dont see it it's not yet available or you could always flash one of the ROMs that has been update
hey man, i think you bought a knock off phone, if you have goggle nexus return it and get a Google nexus

Carrier updates are almost ALWAYS (Can anyone even think of one that isn't...?) out of date by at least a few months...Reason being is that the carriers have to test it out among a select few before sending it on to their huge client base (In Rogers case, about 7.1 million wireless customers) They can't be seen to be releasing buggy updates which swamps their outsourced call centres for support, it would cost them too much money ^_^
The Google/Nexus series of phones are meant to "Freed" from that kind of crap imo, that's why if you check the Development sub section you'll see updated ROMS based on the newest 4.0.4 Android source code being patched/updated daily by random developers from all over the world in some cases...
You might run into some odd issues here and there, but if you do your research (And use that search tool!) you'll find that there's a reason this place is so popular
Yes, I just purchased a brand new Samsung Galaxy Nexuse 16GB for $400 here in my country (UAE) so yes now I am back with the sweetest revenge, for the best total pure android experience, was so darn close to becoming an iSheep few minutes ago!
So my question is how will I update to 4.0.4 or even 4.1(is it official already)? I was using a SI9000 from before(legendary device btw) and was left at experiencing the beta ICS 4.0 Roms, Now I need refreshers LOL
Thanks!

United Arab Emirates? Then the phone must be made out of pure gold with pieces of diamonds, diamond engravings and a hint of platinum and cost 400 thousand dollars
Just kidding. Welcome to the Galaxy Nexus world!
4.1 will be pushed via an OTA update if it is not already shipped with 4.1
Wow thanks all of you for the warm welcome..uhm the phone is still in 4.0.2 guys,
I tried to check the software updates in the about phone section but it says it is up to date? I quite have forgotten what to do? start with unlocking the bootloader and root this baby?
Unfortunately it is still plastic, maybe I would consider to pimp up this phone with diamonds and gold LOL
You have a non-yakju or takju device (just firmware code names), meaning you're updated by Samsung, not Google. These updates are slower. You can switch to takju/yakju manually if you'd like, quite easily. You'll continue to be stock but just be on a different update path.
unfortunately my product model is yakjujp, is this a good info? or should I convert it to "yakju" alone product code? yes I have seen few threads or posts that I could be able to convert my device to these names.

If you want only the latest builds then yes, it would be best to swap to yakju so you don't suffer horrible delays in receiving the latest and greatest.
i had yakjuxw, changed to yakju and got 4.0.4 straight away. do it mate. you'll get 4.1 first using this way.
PS: yakju OR takju - there's no difference except for the inclusion of Google Wallet in takju - which won't work outside the US anyway.
Wow thank you for all the replies guys, I have managed to convert my yakjujp device to the yakju=maguro product name via this very very helpful Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 7.0 program and luckily it was free for a noobie like me, I am really in state of shock after being away for a year from android, now all I need to have is this Toolkit that takes commands and do the essential tasks there in itself. What I did is I downloaded the drivers, the galaxy nexus toolkit, and the google factory image for 4.0.4 IMM76I and bam now I am in 4.0.4 with unlocked bootloader, root, cwm an ehem the apps and games. Can't wait for the OTA Jelly Bean update. Are the Custom ROMS (JB) now could be as daily drivers? My geeky and nerdy self have been awakened!

Has anyone attempted this or is this even possible? I was just looking around the forums to see if it was possible or if any dumps were around.

Why? Sprint and Samsung worked together flawlessly to get 4.1 to us so fast. The unbranded Galaxy s III is still getting the update in some parts of Europe, we are not behind at all. And of course there is the fact that we are the first US carrier to get the update. I'm impressed, and excited to see how Samsung and Sprint can continue with speedy updates to their flagship devices.
