I am also tempted to do that myself, been awhile now using leedroid ROM and quite happy with my phone's current setup/mod. So I may not need any nandroiding/flashing in custom recovery for awhile. I think it should work, just needed confirmation from others though.

Hi all,
Long time Lurker, first.time poster.
I have exactly the same question , if you have a custom ROM installed.on the HOX , will it still charge if it is powered down, or does that only work with OEM ROMs?
This is one of the things holding me back from trying out leedroid, ARHD and all the other excellent work being done here by the devs.
Thanks.

The current latest version of clockworkmod recovery is able to charge now in recovery and when phone is off. Flash the latest version in dev section thread by broncogr. I am using it myself currently.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Like Rycon33 says; it works fine to charge with CWM now, but it is also possible to use a custom ROM with the stock recovery installed if you want to. Then you can just use the fastboot boot command to get into CWM. That's what I did before they fixed the charging problem.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

So then, If ARHD was installed on my One X and up and running, but for whatever reason the battery ran dry, I could only re-charge the battery with Clockwork mod in recovery mode?
I am more asking as in using a custom ROM day to day, not just during installation.

Need serious help. Phone not booting

So,I tried installing CM10 following instructions from lloirs thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835285).
I flashed the boot.img in the first step because he says it is a better option.
After that I proceeded to flash the CM10 zip file, but the install failed.
After that my phone wouldn't boot, so I did a restore from CWM and now my phone is stuck on the HTC One screen for a good half an hour.
Please help. Really need the phone tomorrow.

ClockworkMod recovery and HTC One X

Right, I've had a look around the forum a bit now for help with my issue but decided it's time to post my own thread.
I unlocked and rooted my phone a while back installed clockwork recovery and CM 9. I now want to upgrade to the latest version of CM but my recovery won't boot up...
I've tried downloading the CWM manager to my phone and re flashing from there and tried flashing other recovers and yet it still tried Clock work mod flashes on and immediately off and my phone reboots...
Can anyone lend me their knowledge?
Thanks.
Put recovery.img in the fastboot folder
Put your phone in fastboot mode
Open dosprompt ( cmd prompt )
Go to fastboot folder
Type :
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
And then enter recovery
I suggest you flash the latest cmw recovery 5.8.4.0
Verstuurd van mijn HTC One X
Currently at work so will try this when i get back home.
Although, im sure this is the process i followed when trying to fix the problem before posting this thread.
Will update.
i have the htc AT&T and everytime i load clockworkmod it just boots to the htc logo and stays there
twrp will take but it wont work right, "Failed to mount cache"
If its getting messy. Download the recovery and flash it via the htc one x toolkit in dev section. No commands just clicking LOL.
You put the zip into the recovery folder.connect yoir phone then just flash recovery. Personally twrp recovery works better. More options..

Twrp is failing too, I even locked the bootloader ran ruu then unlocked and rooted, Twrp let me root but won't install another rom. Fails to mount cache.

It doesn't have to be rooted to flash recovery from fastboot. Does it power down and charge? I'd buy it. Probably needs just a rom and boot.img like others have said. Every chance a noob had it and got out of his depth and thought it was bricked.

It's the rom that is rooted. So you can flash one that is already rooted or flash one that isn't and root after, it's up to you. Main thing is to get some charge in it first.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
The phone says unlocked in the top line so you're good to go. You must flash a recovery while you are in BL screen and you need PC to flash it.
Then, with recovery, you can install any ROM you want. The ROMs are pre rooted so you don't have to root separately.
Hope this clears things up. Buy the phone already!!

I think it have an instable costume rom and after reset it's crashed and now it don't have rom on it, it's possible?
like cjm1979 not the phone is rooted...the rom is rooted...i don't know why all are saying to unlock phone that this is rooting...rooted is only the rom to get full access....for that we need unlocked bl...this phone is already unlocked...if you can't boot in recovery because there isn't custom recovery then flash one ...then go in flash a rom and the boot.img via fastboot...but make sure the phone has over 30 % ...if not it wont flash anything...

Question about the One X and forum...

I have a few questions since I'm fairly new to the forum...
1) What's the difference between the HTC One X development forum and the One X original development forum? Is it to do with concurrent development updates and stability with the latter being approved as 'Stable' in the sense of the word? Or am I mixed up...?
2) My CID is HTC_001, I have S-ON and HWBOOT 1.39.0000 with the phone rooted. Am I prepped and ready for installing a custom ROM?
3)Regarding the recovery, I presume you use the backup & recovery in the BOOTLOADER to create a recovery file before installing the custom ROM?
I appreciate the help chaps,
:good:

I believe that the original forum is more for the pure android versions without FOR instance touchwiz. (Not sure if I'm right) if a Rom is stable it will usually be mentioned in the corresponding thread and it will also say what works and what is broken in the Rom.
you seem ready for a custom rom because I have hboot 1.39 as well. As long as it is unlocked and have a custom recovery you can flash away. As for your third question, no, you use the backup and restore option in your custom recovery for instance clockworkmod or twrp. Some advice: always flash the corresponding boot.img from your rom.

So by "Pure Android", do you essentially mean ROMS that are more true to form with less customization layered over the top? If so, which one would you recommend and does it matter which one you use from either one of the forums as-long as you meet the pre-requisites?
Now, what do you mean by custom recovery, how do I know if I have it or how do I do it? Sorry, but I'm a bit of a pleb so simpleton english please :cyclops:
Also if you are fairly new I suggest you flash the viper rom, it has htc sense and all the tweaks a man needs.
Copy zip to phone
Make sure you have the right boot.img to flash in the fastboot folder its in the zip
Full wipe if coming from other Rom
Flash rom
Flash boot.img by using: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
And it should boot up nicely, this if you already unlocked the bootloader and have a custom recovery

Ohhhhh, I get it now... So as-well as unlocking the phone to ROOT, you also have to overwrite the stock recovery on the phone with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819 Okokok, so that's the 'Custom' recovery. Roger
Yes. You seem to get the hang of it. Before flashing a recovery let me try to get ahold of Mr. Hofs, he has a recovery file that supports touch which you need for some Rom installations. Ill get back at you.
Btw if you are already on a custom recovery by now, immediatly make a nandroid backup and also copy it to your pc. If anything happens and you do not have a nandroid backup things could get way harder than they should

That one I linked is touch isn't it? Atleast, the title says "9/6 Mandatory Update Official Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.4.0" which would lead me to believe so....
Yes but I believe people have reported that touch didn't work. The one with touch you can flash over cwm later and you'll lose no data at all. I'm on my htc atm so its hard to find links for you. The recovery I'm using is philz touch recovery which is also cwm based

Can you describe exactly what you did? Did you install the boot.img in cwm?

---------- Post added at 12:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 AM ----------
If your phone can only reboot into recovery the only thing that is left to do is install a custom rom. You can also go back to stock if you manage to get the correct RUU OR if you find your stock boot.img which you just replaced. What I would do is flash a sense based rom, flash the boot image, fastboot erase cache and let it boot up, if it boots make a nandroid backup immediatly. as I am no expert choosing the right RUU I cannot help you get back to stock.. I haven't quiet gotten to the RUU part myself.
To flash a recovery : fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
Flash a kernel/boot.img: fastboot flash boot bootname.img
Fastboot erase cache
Ofc change recoveryname to the name ur recovery has or change the name to recovery.img makes it easier

I may have just flashed my boot with recovery, now what?

So I accidently mis-read a post a fellow XDA member posted and flashed my boot with the recovery.img before I was able to make a backup of my boot.img. So what can I do now? Phone hangs at HTC intor logo, however I can still flash and enter BOOTLOADER.
Would appreciate the help chaps...
Fastboot getvar version-main
Go to fastboot and type that, post outcome. From there on we can find the right RUU for you. Once you have the right ruu you relock the bootloader with
Fastboot oem lock
Then you plug in your device and run the RUU as administrator. First get the version main and don't do anything you can't undo! With an ruu u can get full stock back
If you want to run a custom rom anyway you might as well download one and flash it away and flash the boot that comes with it. I understand if you want to revert back to stock first though, your call

Turn off, plugin make sure the zip is still on your phone if not copy again. Unplug phone before flashing and flash zip from sd card again. Just copy the Rom in the internal storage not in a folder, this could cause problems
Don't worry about battery life it usually charges in recovery and if not there are plenty scripts out there to charge it anyway. The thing to do in these kind of situations is stay calm tomorrow I have time to find the right ruu for you if you still want to return back to stock.

You did install all the drivers? So you lost the zip on the storage well that's no biggie, sometimes all I had to do was close htc sync and plug it in again to connect. Try accessing storage when the phone is fully turned on. Do you have usb debugging on?

Hate to say it, but I just repeatedly troll spammed the mount/unmount option in recovery while plugging and unplugging the USB cable - Seems to have done the trick. Copying fresh Viper .zip over. Fresh flash of recovery and fresh flash of Viper boot.img.
Upwards and onwards...
Fingers crossed, lol
There's an option in recovery to wipe everything in preparation for new ROM installation, should I do that?
P.s. thankyou for helping me me on this appreciate it.

Wanna know the best bit, my one x is second hand so no warranty to return on!! Hardcore, yippee-kai-yayyy! lol
That's great, tinker around with it all you want! It is really fun flashing different roms. Viper Rom even has OTA, over the air updates. You'd have to read the thread for that though. Once you get viper to work.. make a backup!! Also copy that backup folder to your dekstop so you don't lose it and cause you need the boot.img if you ever want to restore

OMG! Viper is flashing.... FINALLY! I'm getting a slight fizzing sensation now...
You are getting there my friend! Read their thread carefully though. When flashing OTA's you need to delete them out of your download folder cause else your recovery might go crazy.those kind of things are good to know!! Well I guess my job is done as I think it will boot up perfectly. Have a nice night and happy flashing
