'System Enhancement Update'.....OK if rooted on stock? - HTC One X

Update notification just popped up for this enhancement update but I need to know if it'll kill my root or re-lock the boot loader before I go ahead and accept it.
Anyway know if its safe and what it actually does?
Thanks.

[Q] will a sys update mess up a stock rooted phone(2.2 froy or cause it to lose root?

saw on a friends phone that a system software update to phone is available...He canceled and wanted to know if updating would cause loss of root or any other effect..
bump. i've actually been wondering about this myself. any help would be greatly appreciated!
yes, installing an OTA update will almost assuredly wipe out your root.
I'm rooted, tried to update ota and it goes through the motions like it's gonna work, then just stops and gives me the exclamation point! I think you have to unroot first. I just installed latest RUU and now I'm updated and rooted.
wouldnt the best security feature for sprint be to build the update in a way that wont update your phone if your rooted? is this already the case?

[Q] Software Could Not Be Updated

My phone said a new update was available (Android 2.3.3), and after it installed and rebooted, a prompt comes up saying "Software Could Not Be Updated". Any idea what could be causing this? My phone is rooted if that makes any difference.

Is your bootloader unlocked?
DId you remove any bloatware? Or anyting else? If so the update won't work, you need to replace teh displaced files. A couple of threads on this subject

Nah I didn't unlock the bootloader.
As Cholerabob said, did you remove any files after you rooted your phone? If that's the case, an OTA update will not work for you until and unless you either reflash or replace the files which you've removed.
If you've just frozen apps with Titanium Backup, you might want to undo that before trying to update.
Cheers! Hope this helps.
If u have rooted and remove some bloatwares, u will have to flash a default 2.3.2, root it, then do the OTA update to have a rooted 2.3.3

A couple of questions about root and OTA

I have been on stock almost all my life, but I once thought what could go wrong with having a rooted phone. I unlocked the bootloader, and tried just booting a custom recovery TWRP, and it worked, although it didn't work before as I heard HTC disabled booting recoveries only. Flashed SuperSU, and VOILA!
I installed a couple of applications I wanted to try, first of them was Titanium Backup, and removed a couple of applications like the default "Internet" browser. I also installed greenify and played with it for while.
Yesterday, I tried installing the latest OTA that fixes the Stagefright exploit, and my phone got soft bricked stuck at the booting screen. Thanks to a Nandroid backup I made with TWRP before rooting - or even after rooting I really can't remember -, which I restored, got the OTA normally but wiped my phone.
Here are my questions:
- Does root only change system files?
- If I removed the default "Internets application that came with the phone after root "uninstalled" it, does this change stock?
- Would greenify with root cause that?
- Is there any official way to restore the stock system files?
I'm just trying to figure out the exact reason here..
@bingorabbit, I can answer 'some' of your questions.
1. Does root only change system files?
I think so, but Someone Else will have to give you a better answer on this one...
2. If I removed the default "Internets application that came with the phone after root "uninstalled" it, does this change stock?
Absolutely - & this particular OTA is really, really picky. If it's not absolutely untouched stock, it all goes wrong & your phone will hang on the boot screen, as both yours & mine did.
3. Would greenify with root cause that?
Whilst I don't know greenify, if it needs root, then yes, absolutely, your 'stock' will no longer be 'stock', & this OTA will all go horribly wrong...
4. Is there any official way to restore the stock system files?
Absolutely yes. Find out your CID, read up on how to deal with an RUU, find & download the right RUU, then walk a little further down the rabbit hole

I really appreciate your answer, regarding my 4th question, My CID is HTC__J15 but I couldn't find an official RUU for it, only found ones for the developer/unlocked edition on HTC's web site http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html#unlocked if so, should I change my CID to match the developer edition or can I just go on with that one?
Hey,
you can find more RUU and nand backups here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

Updating HTC M9 Unlocked to 1.32.617.30?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to help my friend update his M9. I was able to root his phone before and he's telling me he keeps getting a constant notification to update the OTA. He is currently on 1.32.617.6 and the update is to 1.32.617.30.
Does anyone have a TWRP backup of the system I can just flash on his phone so it won't get rid of root? I was able to do the TWRP restore of a Stagefright system backup to update my Moto X. If not, what is the best method to update his phone without factory resetting/deleting his data.
ohhhh lord.....in this device it is not just a matter of root and ready! you have f***** the phone! with root you CAN NOT EVER NEVER take OTAs....for that you should unroot and most of the time re-lock bootloader.....
As I always said...do not attemp on rooting/unlocking/flashing if you are not willing to lose everything..........
My best option here if you dont mind losing all and restart (wich may give a 100% fresh stock updated rom) is to flash the Developer Edition 2.11 and rthen relock bootloader) but you would need be to be s-off, otherwise, nroot and relock as normal and get the ota.

Stock with unlocked bootloader & root but can't install updates or remove apps.

I bootloader unlocked/rooted this phone so I could uninstall Sprint's bloatware.
It seems without replacing the ROM I can't get rid of the bloat.
Titantium backup says 'failed to locate apk' when I try to uninstall.
I could pay the $5 to freeze them but I should be able to remove the apps.
When I get the security update from Moto it downloads but won't install.
It seems I'm getting the double whammy.
Do I have to unroot or hide something via magisk to get the security updates to work?
Can anyone suggest how to remove the bloat without replacing the ROM?

Searched 'debloat' in our forum and found this.
Most things have been answered, just search a little, it's helps keep these forums cleaner and more efficient.
I will give that a try but can anyone comment about the updates?
Do I have to unroot or lock the bootloader to get Lenovo's security updates?

Unroot, yes. Relock, no. You need to flash all back to complete stock with no edits to any partitions to get updates. TWRP mounts system so once you do any zip install, the hash of system or other partitions changes and the hash check during update will fail.

Let me ask one last question...lol. Anyway to disable the popup about getting the new device updates since I can't get it with the device rooted?

It would be best to flash all then take the update and reboot after. If you must keep your data and not risk losing any, then your best bet is to "disable" or freeze updater.
