Had a bust up with my missus and threw my phone at the wall, none of the hardware buttons at the bottom work but amazingly the touchscreen is fine so onto Ebay it goes. . . sob sob
MOD EDIT: no eBay links
Lesson learned, dont lose temper and throw something less expensive than my Desire.
I'll have to remember that so I can get myself a new phone. I like how in your ad how you say you "dropped" it
From my HTC Desire AIO
Sorry to hear about ur phone... did you have a cover on? I had a close incident the day after getting my phone ... had it in my pocket, was changing and forgot about it so flinging my pants set it sailing halfway across the room .... end result? Not a single scratch on the phone but the cheap 10 dollar cover was open. I put it back together and that was the end of it

Good to know if I would like to buy a new phone, this is a decent way to get rid of this one.

Well the bad news was that I still had 3 months left to run on my contract and did not want to commit to another 2 years with only a half decent upgrade when I might be able to get a nice quad core in a few months so had to pay to cancel the contract and am now resigned to using an old flip phone with P.A.Y.G until I take out a new contract.
So all in all, not the cleverest thing I've done, still I'm mighty impressed that the touchscreen not only survived without a scratch but works perfectly.
R.I.P my old desire, you served me well. Thanks to all the devs for all the amazing roms I've tried. Your hard work and efforts to keep the Desire in the game are much appreciated. Its been a great ride
Thank you for your post, learnt a lot, i won't try to broke a wall with my phone any more
One time when I was kinda drunk I apparently threw my Desire onto a hard wood floor a few times and it still seems fine =) Happened 3 months ago or so.

Sorry, man!
You should mention the app in your eBay listing--maybe you'll get a few bucks more than you would otherwise.
No surprise. Mine got a few bumps jumping out of my pocket. On a road, yes, that "bad" road with those big stones in it from a pocket height no cover on the phone and right on a corner >> just a scratch in that corner. Then the same on a tile >> another scratch, another corner. Then, sitting on a a chair phone fall down a on lino flat way (right on a screen), no scratch or whatsoever but the screen was not working till that moment... 120 euro repair.. Bad luck..
You should have tried to throw it to wall for a second time!
I know one person who first watered his Desire Z, and it didn't work even altough he drained it well. But then his young girl took his phone in his hands and threw it to wall and.. It began to work! Sometimes a little shock can do miracles
Download "unwall.img" from Firegooglehoo, rename PB99IMG.zip and place on your SD.

I'm glad I didn't buy mine online! Well, I ordered online, but picked up in-store.
First one, white. Awesome! Except a small smudgy area of light on the screen, only visible on dark-ish to black backgrounds. Screen fault
I went back into Carphone Warehouse, and they had one white One X left. Yay!
Checked the screen before I left, and it had a dead pixel.
Decided to look at the grey version, and it didn't look awful, so I went for that.
Dead pixel
And another grey one with a dead pixel!
I ended up walking out of the shop with the fifth phone I tried that day - the fourth grey version. That was the first one without any screen issues. They only had two One Xs left in the shop after that. They seemed as pissed off with me at the quality control.
I'm loving the phone - I think it's fantastic - but make sure you spend 20seconds checking the screen if you buy it in-store. Might just save you a lot of hassle.

You know that display manufacturers specify that a certain NUMBER of pixels must've failed before the screen is classed as failed don't you? I suppose they don't tell the sales monkeys that!

Haha same, the dark burn-like marks on some S2s (like mine ; I read that its actually the adhesive they use).
But thanks op, I was going to get mine online but CPW it is... nothing like annoying them right
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Ha! I think if they see me walk into the store again they'll probably run away.
They were great about it though - I knew some manufacturers have a certain threshold when it comes to returns and dead pixels, but I said, "if it was a £60 phone, I wouldn't be too bothered, but for £500 I want all pixels present & correct!"
No-one tried to argue that it was a minor issue, so fair play to the CPW chaps. For me, dead pixels are maddeningly annoying - once you've seen one you can't un-see it. Just thought I'd post a heads-up in case people were buying in a shop and not checking the screen first.
I won't be able to get the amount of cash back on the deal I want if I go into a store.. which pretty much means no quality control for me. I have always done it, with my HD2, Desire and my SGS. Got to do it though! There's nothing worse than watching a film, gets to a dark scene and theres some red dot sitting there staring at you Especially if your One X is going to be your precious for the next few years
First one i got had a dead camera now i have a white one everything is fine.

I got mine a few days ago and lo and behold I have a dead pixel in the top left hand corner of the screen.
I have tried all the pixel fixing Apps to no avail.
Contacted Handtec and now am awaiting their reply. Fingers crossed I get a replacement quickly as I have now given my old desire away.
Rob
I will buy mine in a Swisscom shop (I already have a contract but I'm able to choose my phone "later" to get a discount). I ask myself if they will be as understanding as other shops. I mean - they already got the contract signed, they couldn't care less if the phone was bad or not - they don't make that much money anyway as I will get it for around 250-300CHF. I will wait for some more weeks I think and probably also ask them if I can test it directly in the store and whether they would replace it or not and probably also explain why I am that cautious (many reports of faulty devices on the interwebz). Let's hope for the best!

Well, buying off the Internet has its advantages too, thanks to the Distance Selling Regulations, with regards to the Cooling Off Period. It states that if you haven't met the seller face to face, and you're not happy with the goods, you have the right to change your mind within 7 days of receiving it. Notify them in writing (email is good) and send it back. Know your rights people.
Just received mine today and one dead pixel, in the middle of the screen!
Phone up O2, they are sending a brand new phone to my local O2 store on Thursday, take my faulty one day old HTC One X to them tomorrow.
If this replacement has or develops a faulty screen I shall be taking it back, cancelling my contract and demanding a full refund for the upfront payment!
Cannot believe I have him mine last then 24 hours and a screen fault has occurred!
@BeciMester regarding this post with the cooling off period. (Cannot post links because of eight post rule)
If it goes over the 7 day period and the fault appears again, am I entitled to cancel my contract and receive the refund or will I be fully tied in then stuck in the loop if/when other replacements start acting up?
If that is the case then I may just cancel tomorrow and wait for the S3. I cannot be doing with a scenario like wilkomints has had/having, I would be on the verge of killing someone!

Been contemplating sending mine back due to the battery life but when I read things like this I realise it's best I wait it out for the OTA.
My phone is perfect from a hardware point of view. No yellow taint, no dead pixels, no creaking or rattling.
Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of just going into a shop because I bought online. :-(

So I'm on my 6th handset, and no flickering at last.
However this one has a dead pixel (again) and the front speaker holes where the led is are mis aligned, wonky basically and tbh I think it looks tacky like a cheap knock off
I'm torn between doa'ing this and going onto the 7th handset or just living with the two issues
What would you do?

Those issues would bug me more tbh than the screen flicker which I currently experience but holding hope that 1.30 will resolve it. Try again and hope that the next handset is the holy grail.
Return it again until you get a good one mate. At the end of the day you are on a phone that you will be using at least a minimum for a year..so i say take it back

Personally I'd just return, the One X is an Amazing Handset, and you shouldn't have to live with a defective unit, i'm not sure why you're so unlucky to get 6 of them, but better to persist than give up and then not be able to return later.

I often cant help to think that people only find (some of the minor) issues with handsets once they have been on the forums and then go to look for them.
I wonder if I passed what i think to be a defect free handset to someone that has had more than 6 or 7 replacements that they would find defect that I dont see?
Just a thought….
Steve
No offence, but, return it and move on to a different handset... It is insane for anyone to buy/return/exchange 6-7 times for a product. Clearly the product doesn't work for you. If I have to exchange a product more than once, I'm done with that product..

That's the thing, I could, but to me there just isn't any competition to it, 100% working it wipes the floor with anything else (i hate Samsung's touchwiz and everything else they do with it like the stock browser has no desktop mode at least on sgs2, desktop mode is necessary for me) if there was a nexus with the same specs I wouldnt mind that, but then again I'm hooked on sense there's so many little features that I take for granted now and when I use another phone, it just doesn't feel right. And that's why I have to keep swapping, once I find the perfect one (which should have been the first one dammit) I will be a happy bunny
Edit: damn sense, any other product would have absolute maximum 2 tries then it would be off to another brand

I've almost driven myself mad trying to decide whether to return my HOX due to the flicker at low brightness. The problem is that for me it's a bit of a PITA to find the time to return to the shop, and the other thing is that both of the HOXs that colleagues of mine own, which came from different shops entirely, also exhibit exactly the same issue. So considering my phone is otherwise a very good example without any of the other issues I've heard about, I've decided to stick with it and see what the 1.30 update does.
This issue definitely isn't bothering me just because it's mentioned on this forum; I discovered the discussions on here after noticing the flicker myself.
I'd return it and get a replacement.
I have been a windows phone user for the last year or so but was so tempted by the one x and android 4 that I took the plunge and got one a couple of weeks ago. The first couple if days were great but since then I have suffered random reboots, the disappearing SD memory problem, battery overheating and now the battery will only get me through a couple of hours. The phone will also sometimes decide it needs to reload the home screen and displays "loading" for a minute or two. It lags, it will not send music meta data to my cars head unit, Bluetooth audio in the car is tinny and syncing my music collection with it is a pain. I have gone back to my Titan as my daily use phone and now use the one x as a camera (which is pretty good actually). I am running stock and have uninstalled all third party apps.

Lol CHOOSE U.... really! Lol. I use both wp and android. I'm guessing you have a faulty device or one x running 1.19 software. I don't have those problems. No reboots at all. No sense reloads. That I think it's caused by the calendar widget. And wp os no need dual core or quad core to run fast.

If after a format (no apps installed), your still getting random reboots & only a couple of hours battery - you really need to be getting this device replaced.

No problem my friend. The phone is ready but like every new flagship that gets released it does take a few updates to get the phone to it's true power. Same was with the S2. It needed a few good updates and a few months to properly realize its power...I think you need to return it and get a replacement
@chrisjicks
same here bro..had my phone now for a few weeks even though i am on my third replacement and could not be happier...And also glad that the development has picked up big style now..nice to see the old VR crew here from the s2 forum
I don't suppose you got a replacement One X and tried a different device?
What with all the faulty ones around that could have been the simple case with yours maybe? Because if so a working one might have provided a different perspective on the phone.
If someone is having random reboots after a format with no apps installed, its clear to me that its a faulty device, - if this isn't the case, he has an app installed that is causing it.
If I can go over a month without a single reboot (by itself) - it can't be a software bug.

Couple of things:
If the battery lasts two hours the phone is broken, or you are doing it wrong.
Updating the phone will solve the re-loading issue mostly.

Damn man. That's messed up. However, in terms of stupidity when it comes to phones I definitely beat you lol.
I had a bb storm that wasn't working so Verizon sent me a replacement, but i took more than. A month to send it back, and so I paid retail price of 550 dollars, and then a couple of years later, I purchased a DROID x and while at a party asked someone to take a picture of me and the chick I was with. They took the picture, I forgot about the phone turned away with the chick and left. Lol. I think I win lol

Damn man. That's messed up. However, in terms of stupidity when it comes to phones I definitely beat you lol.

Rofl! That was definitely better one!

Interesting Insurance though, My Company doesn't list anything unless it's worth more than $1500. HTC One X isn't worth near that, so it's automatically assumed.
Bad luck
Silliest thing I've done is dropped my HTC Trophy 7, didn't crack or smash, the sleep/power button broke, it actually snapped the plastic tab inside, disassembled it to check. Really irritating way to break lol, still works but you can't wake it up!

Youre better off using if broken like that than sending it to htc for repairs, youll get it back more broken than it was before. :/

Piss flaps!
Well in terms of stupidity, I may actually take the cake. I had an Xperia X8 a while back. Thought I would do my own "XDA Unboxing of the Xperia X8". Within 10 minutes into my brave (or stupid, when i think about it) escapade, I managed to
1. Break the outer screen (casing)
2. Rip the camera out beyond repair
3. F*cked the 3 menu buttons
4. Damage the rockers (power, volume)
5. Break the motherboard (thats right folks. In half...i forgot to take out one screw and thought i would need force to pull it out...)
So I bought a new one. Same colour so no one would notice...I'm no Adam Outler tho
One More Idiota...
Bought HOX for 560EURO, brought back got problm network dropped, went back to the shop got 1-to-1, brought back too exited, root the phone, then got the same problem, went back to the shop again!, cant get the 1-to-1 any more, so sent for warranty, cant claimed for the warranty because they said the phone rooted at that moment i saw my money flying above my head (all this events took only in 1 week)... now the spoiled HOX is sleeping under by my bed...

boooo you cheated to get ahead in the stupidity contest!! lol
most of those can be lumped together, and after breaking two or three, you probably said **** it and just went to town on the poor little phone lol.
though I will admit the motherboard part is brilliant.
I call for an official judge's ruling on this matter. it's too close for us to call lol

Haha! This one gave me something to laugh about. Oh well! Although my screen in It's current state is cracked. I still admire the colors it represents, with jelly bean being around the corner I can't wait to send it in and have this bad boy running.

I have insurance in Storebrand here in Norway. My girlfriend borrowed my phone. She was unlucky and dropped it. Screen broken. I called the insurance company and told her the story. No problem, the money should be on my bank account within a couple of days. Case closed.

Nope i don't have an X8. I'll send in mine for repair tomorrow. I'm really starting to hate contracts. Feels like a bunch of scam.

yeah, man. specially now that technology has gotten to a point where life cycle of a phone is less than a year (or you could say that technology is advancing way faster then) andthe two year contracts are now an obsolete concept.
idk man, maybe prepaid is the way to go
