You have been connected to Steve.
Steve: Hi Chris, thank you for contacting HTC Support. How may I help you today?
Chris Hail: Hi Steve, i purchased a new HTC one x but have had to have it replaced 3 times due to backlight flicker
and screen flex, can you please give me a answer as to whether the screen flex is a design floor and should be
replaced again ?
Steve: I understand you are experiencing issues with the screen of your HTC One X.
Steve: I am very sorry for this consistent problem.
Steve: I would suggest having this device replaced again. I understand this may be frustrating and I apologise -
however as you can appreciate, this should not happen.
Chris Hail: Ok so you are confirming that if i press the edges of the screen ( not hard ) it should not flex or
cause a rainbow effect on the display ?
Steve: Are you pushing the corners independently and this effect is happening?
Chris Hail: if i press either the left or right edges of the display it causes a rainbow effect, this also happens
if i press and slide my finger along the edge the rainbow effect follows my finger
Steve: This shouldn't happen. I
Steve: I would recommend having this device replaced once more.
Chris Hail: Ok, well thanks for answering my question i think i will get a refund though and buy a different phone
as this is happening too much it will be my 4th One X
Steve: I can appreciate your concern, Chris. However I am confident that your 4th HTC One X will work normally and
you will be very impressed with the functionality of the device.
Chris Hail: I really like the device and am very impressed but it seems to me the first batches that are currently
in stores near me have manufacturing problems, if it happened once or maybe twice then ok it happens but to be going
for a 4th device from the same store is not great
Steve: I can appreciate that, Chris.
Steve: I hope you change your mind and try the HTC One X once more. I do not believe there is a comparable handset
on the market at the moment.
Chris Hail: Thankyou, i do agree but until HTC sort out the manufacturing issues i think i will wait a few months
Steve: I understand Chris. I'm sorry to hear that.
Steve: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Chris Hail: no thats it thankyou for your help
Hmm confident your 5th one will be fine. Maybe we're all meant to buy five and send the four failures back.
lol i know yea, the one x is gonna have to wait for me now i just cant seem to get a faultless one so back to the sensation or maybe go for the one s who knows. At least HTC state that the screen flex should NOT occur.
I have never had the rainbow affect when using my HOX normally but if i press harder than i normally would along the edges of the HOX i can get the rainbow affect, and hear a creaking sound, but as the screen is not glued in place after seeing the tear-down photo`s , and it can be removed in a way similar to the sensation, is this not normal? , we are talking about extremely thin layers that make up the screen.
My screen is perfectly white no yellow tint or spots
John.
Iff u press hard on any screen ull get that what OP is talking about is sum u just touch normal flex

My replacement (second handset) seems to be perfect TOUCH WOOD.
Yea if i press HARD on my sensation i can create the same effect but on all the HOX i have had so far i only have to press gently and slide my finger up to create the problem, which as HTC have said there it should not happen
Not having any problems with mine.

its not in all but like half of them lol! my cousin have one without the ripple but yes it creaks too but not in a bothering way
I am certain these issues will not be gone until retailers start receiving stock which is built in May. Any stock built before then are manufactured using the same process so nothing will change until next month at least.

You have been connected to Eleanor.
Eleanor: Hi leon, thank you for contacting HTC Support. How may I help you today?
leon thrift: Hi i have my 4th HTC One X but i have flex in the screen on this one too, is this a global problem or specific batch problems ?
Eleanor: I understand you are currently experiencing difficulties with the screen on your HTC One X.
Eleanor: I am sorry to hear this, can I please start by taking your Serial/IMEI number of your device, you can find this on a sticker on the box.
leon thrift: I dont have it with me i left it at home while i am at work, what would you need these for ?
Eleanor: So I am able to look at the details of your device. Can I please ask if you returned your device back to the same retailer as before?
leon thrift: Hi yes all of them from the same store www.theorder.co.uk BUT i have also been into Carphone Warehouse this morning and their phones also have this problem
Eleanor: Okay thank you, with regards to this issue, I would advise you to contact where you brought your device from and ask them for a replacement device from another batch.
leon thrift: Okay, i did ask for one from another batch, i received HT23 and HT24 versions and both have the issues. Is there a later batch than HT24 ?
Eleanor: I apologise but I am unable to say for defiant if there is. The only next option we have is to investigate this further for you and escalate it.
leon thrift: How would this be investigated and escalated ?
Eleanor: I will pass this onto our escalations department and they will be able to investigate the issue you are experiencing.
leon thrift: Ok how do we proceed with this ?
Eleanor: I will need to take some details from you.
Eleanor: Can I please take your full name, contact telephone number, email address and the IMEI or serial number of the mobile phone. You can get the IMEI by dialling *#06# on the phone.
leon thrift: As i said i do not have the phone with me so am i able to supply you with this information later today ?
Eleanor: Yes this is not a problem, sorry for my mistake. Do you want me to email you with the information that is needed?
Eleanor: Please can you let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with? If I have not received a response from you, your session will automatically timeout soon.
Just spoke to HTC customer support and they deny any knowledge of devices having screen flex problems, mine only causes a ripple effect on the left edge when crimped between thumb and finger under medium pressure.

Oh yes, I read these threads alright. All the constant moaning is starting to get to me though.
Surely HTC shouldn't have to make a statement to say that there shouldn't be a rainbow effect when applying normal pressure to the screen. Wouldn't common sense prevail? The amount of pressure I apply to my screen, particularly the sides, would be miniscule.
I'm convinced that threads like these will lead to loads of people squeezing the sh*t out of the side of their phones to see if they can get this rainbow effect and therefore start freaking out and send their phone back asap.

Does anyone have a HTC One X where this screen distortion problem is so bad that normal pressure being applied to the screen causes flex. Bear in mind that capacitive screens respond to touch and not resistance.
I had a white H1X, which distorted the screen even when tapping the capacitive buttons! Taiwan, HT23 etc. Slight pressure along either side also distorted the screen. It looked so bad I'd be afraid to subject it to the pressure of being bare in a pocket!
My grey one is doing well, needs a good bit of pressure to create distortion, like any LCD display! The glass is laminated onto the display and there is no gap, so pressing the glass hard is going to distort the display. You'll find touching your computer monitor or LCD TV requires very little force to distort.
I genuinely think that a lot of people who have reported the flex/distortion would never have known had they not read about it here!

When I press my HOX screen at some pressure at the bottom it gives some color inside. Whether this is a problem?

Put some pressure on your monitor (Providing it's an LCD or similar). What do you see?
Why are you pressing a capacitive screen in the first place??
This is a problem, the glas should never touch the lcd.
And why press capacitive touchscreen? While playing games and caught up in the action? Since it is a tegra3 phone, chances are big
Just did a test . Whether the phone can withhold pressure inside the tight jeans and under the pillow while sleeping.

just noticed that mine now as well has that creak on the left hand side..basically when i press the left hand side i can feel it not being in the right place and it makes a noise when i push it down..right side is fine. spoken with my carrier and they said they can not replace it they need to send it to get worked on...and then once i send it they get a quotation of £20 and if i accept then they will try and fix it..i declned that and said you must be joking. spoke to HTC and they said they can not replace it but send it in for repairs..i do not mind that as long as they do not charge me..but they said the carrier should replace it if i am getting dust under the screen...here is hoping..dissappointed..as i really like this phone and already spend like few bucks getting cases for this phone S3 looks more and more appealing now...

And if you don't think it too is going to have its own set of anomalies and QC issues you're a tad naive. Go check out the GN forum, it's the last phone Samsung released. It's a great phone but far from perfect. As is the One X. And as will be the SGS3.

s2 came out never had any issues with that Barry mate. Look i do not want to turn this into a flame war..We both know how it was last week. Nah after clearing my head now i have two options.
One i am waiting an answer from HTC till tomorrow afternoon they said whether they will replace it for me or send it for repairs. If they say they will replace it i have a winner. If they say they will send it for repairs then i will go with my network provider. At least if they fix it i know i shall not have the issues as it will come back brand new.
And the good thing i am covered by warranty as it is the stupid flex issue that everyone is facing..Damn thing creaks like hell when you press on it

I had one of the first SGS2's sold in the UK. It was a train wreck. Here's a list of issues I can remember:
1) Devices overheating to the point they shut down
2) Huge color temperature variations in the displays
3) Wireless (both Wi-Fi and 3G) that was so screwed up Samsung was pushing out updates weekly
4) Fingerprints on the inside of the display
5) USB ports that released and got pushed up in to the phone
6) Flashing covering the camera lens from inside
7) Light showing through from the edges of the bezel
8) Bad headphone jacks
If you had one at launch you have either short or selective memory. After about two months all the QC issues went away and we all know how great a phone the SGS2 ended up being. I kept mine for eleven months; the longest I've ever kept a phone. The point being, no phone is immune from issues especially when they first come out.

If you think about it, the devices we're buying today are about 1000% more complicated than just two years ago. A lot more advanced crap is being pushed in to a smaller space. At the same time, what we're willing to pay at the high-end is kind of fixed so the manufacturers have to juggle all of that while putting out phones at twice the frequency. My biggest ***** with all of them is the obvious lack of testing that takes place. I can forgive some of the QC issues (provided they go away eventually) but the flickering thing is kind of hard to overlook. As was the GN 2G radio problem. Alas, I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. It'll be interesting to see how Samsung fares with the SGS3. People's expectations are so high I think it'll be hard to meet them.

Spot on mate spot on. What would you advise to do mate? I mean phone is fully functional and nothing wrong with it. It is just that gap on the left hand side which is not really visible unless you really look at it and then when you press hard on the left you can feel the phone creaking and trying to adjust the shell to get in place.
I read about screem gap but i was unsure what exactly was meant. I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... Apart from rhat phone has no problems.

send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...
i was going to say if it does not bug you then leave it..but you sound just like me that even though the phone works fine it will bug you cause you know it is there
should i go to my provider or directly cpntact htc? And just to understand it better. Gaps are not supposed to be there, am i right?

It amazes me some of the reasons people will find to return an otherwise perfect handset. Considering the amount of serious problems floating about this phone, I don't think a creak or 1mm gap between the bezel and screen constitutes a return. Get over it and enjoy the phone.

I've had it for 10 months now and my screen moves, doesn't fit right on the phone as there should be a lip round it but isn't my speaker isn't straight so is sloping. Looks like the cnc machine hasn't cut it right. Power button is really recessed too far in..... I think a little sqweek is nothing to really worry about if the screen falls out then ya I'd send it back.

well that is what worries me about the whole damn thing..if it gets to hot to soon and in two months down the line the screen actually does fall out
TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Im gunna have to get it sent off soon i think, gutted!

Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.
Hi Guys,
First post post and its a sad one.
Word of warning to some of you guys with the one x.
I had some major screen issues when i first got my device (preordered) and i spoke to htc about the issues i was having flickering, green lines, touch issues and all the heat that the phone was generating.
I was in the cinema the other night and was texting during the copious and irrelevant adverts that accompany any film and i turned to speak to my friend and when i pressed the unlock button i discovered my screen had shattered.
I dont know wether this was a one off manufacturing error or wether it was related to the issues i was having before but a word of warning as i dont want it happening to someone else as it has taken me a while to get a new phone issued. Mine will be going to HTC for investigation no doubt. Thankfully my retailer was reasonable in the end, and when they found out i had already reported a screen fault to HTC the imediately offered a swap out.
Its not a shatter from any particular point, it just seemed to shatter from the middle out.
Before anyone comments saying you must have pressed too hard, i use my fingers for pointing and touching and dont yell "by the power of greyskull" before using my phone.
So if you are still having banding, or non responsive screen issues of anykind be careful. I hope this is a one off, but if it hapens to someone else at least you know your not the only one.
Pressure from the pocket maybe. Ive worked in the mobile industry for 8 years and have never known a screen to pop so to speak. Very strange. Could be an assembly issue with the glass slightly over sized but would still need a knock to set it off.

maybe he dropped it and wants to believe he didn't
another cracked screen
My screen cracked when I performed a rather bad magic trick by putting my phone in my front pocket and when I took it out the screen was cracked. To say I was disappointed would be a bit of a understatement.
On contacting HTC they now say that as I unlocked the boot loader not only do I have to pay for a new screen ( I would argue any phone that cant be put in a pocket of your trousers with out cracking is not fit for purpose ) but worse as I had unlocked the bootloader that I would have to pay for a new mother board as well.
I would understand having to pay for a new screen but having to pay for a new motherboard and screen does not sit well with me. If they had said that I would have pay for the screen and done nothing else on the phone and that I would have had no warranty I would have been ok with that
mox: thankyou for implying im deluded, i will take your kind words onboard
I didnt actually put my phone back in my pocket, i have never dropped it and had a full case on it from the word go. I cant see how or why this would happen and would hope its a one off an the build quality seems good and after the updates the phone works really well.
Im hoping this was a one in a million situation that wont occur for anyone else, but i thought just in case, HTC couldnt deny it had happened before.

It's much more likely that you applied too much pressure on the screen by accidentally pressing it against the arm rest or something else nearby while you were distracted.
Ockham's razor, the glass isn't under any load stress so it's impossible for it to suddenly fracture. And if it did, you would have heard a loud cracking noise. Pressure must have been applied. Either that or you dropped it and now you're trolling. Sorry, but I really find it difficult to believe in spontaneous shattering of a phone's screen...

Gorilla Glass looking good, hahahaha
If it took a lot of pressure to shatter a demo glass of Gorilla Glass on a board, then either you put way too much pressure, or way too much heat damaged the glass causing it to shatter.

I'm sure there's a lot of people who won't believe this story. They key, however, to communicating online is this. Apply these simple rules before you post and you'll be doing very well.
1) does what I'm about to say need to be said (does it benefit anyone)?
2) does it need to be said right now?
3) does is need to be said by me?
If the answer to any of these is "no" then probably best not to say it at all.
If someone says something you don't believe to be true but it is not hurting anyone I would generally suggest letting it go. just my twopen'th.

I scratched the shot out of my phone other day
My question is does the one x have a screen protector on it
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
It doesn't really matter if the screen has a screen protector on it or not. If someone took a baseball bat and smashed your screen, with or with no screen protector, it will still shatter.

There is no screen protector pre-installed as far as I can tell from looking at my device.

There is a screen protector on if you had put it on. Asking is if your phone has screen protector is... strange.

If you meant you scratched your screen without knowing for a fact you placed a screen protector on it yourself AFTER taking off the "I'm the ONE you've been waiting for" sticker, then no, you don't have a screen protector.
Easiest way to check is to get a piece of tape, tape it on the screen and peel.
Hi all.
I returned my black HOX last week because of the screen ripple thing (when you run your finger down the sides of the screen) also the screen seemed to be a tad loose just like so many people have reported on here. So phones4U sent me a white one, I have received it and its worse than the black one now I don't even have to apply any pressure to get the screen ripple. What should I do? should I just put up with the fault or should I change to another phone s3 etc.
Cheers eze

Return it and tell them its a known issue (they should know)
ask for a tested device or enforce a newer batch
SH248 on awards are good
latest SH25 and HT25 seems good
loose screen is a known defect, slight screen ripple on outer edges pressure is normal unless its acting badly

This one is serial SH24, I have literally just had the screen flicker now to, so this phones is defo a faulty one. So the slight screen ripple is normal, I would say my old black one was normal because you had to apply a bit of pressure for the ripple to appear but this white one aint normal. Anyway I have just got of the phone with phones4u and I have managed to arrange to do an exchange in store.

SH23SW, no ripple.
normal is under bit if pressure
I've had two SH25's.
First one had no screen ripple at all but the screen was loose in left bottom corner. I could feel it moving, clicking etc. The backlight was also bleeding from that corner. I returned it and the second one has screen ripple everywhere with light pressure, has a dead pixel and the screen is loose on both sides.
I'm waiting for this one to be replaced. Beginning to wish I wasn't so fussy with the 1st one.
Every HOX will do it under pressure but it shouldn't do it if pressed lightly mines does it but I don't really care as I ain't going to rub sides with a dark screen??

you second hox was defected due to the extra ripple and the first hox was defected due to screen loose
you should expect a defectless hox where the screen is rock rigid and fit on all sides and only slight ripple under pressure to the outside edges
I know, going to hold out for a perfect one now.
On this one you can see a small red light in the top left behind the screen when you are on a call, is this normal? I didn't notice it on the last one.

I dont think he means that, I had that on my original one its the notification led bleeding through the side of the screen and the case, caused by the screen not being glued correctly.
HT25 here and ripples do occur in the middle of the screen with very light pressure. when i press "send" button on SMS app i get a ripple in the middle of the screen. WTF????
I am rooted at this point and not sure if I should screw around with it. What do you guys think?

@Op, there are many threads about screen issues already.
Why you don't take a little time to search instead of opening a new thread.

Is there no such thing as a perfect HOX without issues on the screen when you apply pressure on the sides? Has anyone ever sent their phones for repair and had it back perfect?
Normally you won't notice this when operating the phone but say for example you're taking it out of the case or working out the gym and switching music you're definitely gonna apply more pressure and I can't help but feel that it's gonna break apart or cause permanent damage everytime it happens.
Yes happens to mine too, when I use my nail and press on the edge of the glass. It happens to my brothers One X too.
Mine is worse on the upper left side. So you' re just gonna live with the problem?
I don't have this.

mine got this "issue" too.
but remember, this phone has a touchscreen, not a press-the-f**k-out-of-me-screen.

Completely derogatory reply, and unnecessary.
You're implying that every one who has this fault is squeezing the f**k out of the screen.
This is simply not true.
And lets be bloody honest here, what is the point of a touch screen device that if you put the slightest additional pressure on messes up the screen as though it's a bloody lcd monitor?
Seriously?
Am I supposed to put white gloves on when I use my HTC? Am I not supposed to put it in my pocket, just it case it gets' squeezed.
I'm on my SEVENTH f**king phone, and trust me, I don't have to squeeze the f**k out of it.
I've not come across ANY other phone that does this. ANY!
So STFU claiming you have to squeeze it hard. You don't. It's a f**king design flaw. And I'm sick the the bollocks in having to keep sending my units back. I don't want my TOUCH SCREEN phone to look like it's my f**king LCD Monitor when I'm using it.

No. I'm getting rid now. This is my seventh unit. Absolutely appalling design flaw.
This phone is supposed to last me 2 years. It doesn't feel like it's going to last me 2 minutes.
How do you think that screen is going to hold up after 8 months of being in a pocket.
After 12 months?
After 18 months?
Yellow splodges everywhere because the screen has flexed too much? Having to hold it like a newborn in case it gets damaged even more.
Bollocks to that.
This is my final return.
I'm going to have to go with the S3. I don't like it compared to the HOX, I don't like TouchWiz.
But I much prefer that, then having a messed up screen in 12 months time.
Dude, you need a chill pill.
And stop punching your phone.
Get an S3 if it'll make you feel better, but I can assure you that jabbing instead of touching will net you a similar outcome.

Bah! I got my phone without warranty so the most sensible thing for me to do is sell it now and get a new one hopefully without the issue. I've been asking some friends who have the phone and a lot of them don't have this problem. I really thought that everyone had this problem and just chose to live with it.
I have the same issue - but no problem with it.
At the beginning i had "ghost touches" but after i pressed the screen (left side) a little bit harder they're gone

Has anyone reported it getting worse? Im worried about permanent damage but if it just stays like this then ill save me all the trouble and just keep it
awesome how agressive oliseo is. seriously, the screen is capacitive, what means that you have to touch it, not to press it.
the one x is some milimeters slim and you get a hd display, a quadcore cpu (actually 5 cores but offtopic) and you are trying to tell me that that´s a serious issue that the screen shows ghost if pressed? so, i guess your tft / lcd monitor has this issue too, i´ve got seven tube-monitors before i got my tft and all the other monitors didn't showed that epic-design-failure.
dude. seriously.
