So I just got a play and rooted, and whent ttrough the unlocking processes and everything was good. There seems to be one problem that follows me no matter what ROM i change to. I am using ICS++ right now with baseband .42 and doomM kernel and my only problem is Wifi (I believe there is a fix for that, ill have to keep looking) but what really is bothering me the most is when i make calls. When i make or receive calls, sometimes that person cannot hear me and i have to call back. This is annoying and i just went from Darkforest ICS with darkforest kernel to doomMkernel with ICS++ and im still having same problems. Any suggestions?
for doomkernel, did u flash the wifi module?? and ics, sony recommended user to use .62 fw.. try flash the .62 fw and look if it solve your problem..
For the DooMKerneL, I flashed the wifi module. that wasn't too much of an issue, but my concern more was that calling problem where people would call me and they would not hear me but i could hear them. So I just left ICS all together and went to 2.3.4 with DooMKerneL v13 and .69 baseband

Hi guys,
Some help needed. I'm not sure why but my phone won't recharge after i mod it. everything is fine and dandy when I'm on stock ROM. Using Build .62 android 2.3.4.
I have narrowed it down to a couple of problems..
1) after rooting ( doomlords zergling rush)
2)after using doomkernel v01/02
Has anyone else come across this type of problem? I think it's a bit strange or it could be that the build has issues..
I can and have flashed back to stock rom and it's charging again. so thats not an issue. I would just like to know if there any way around having to flash back to stock every damn time i wanna charge the phone.
Sorry posted in the wrong section. Mods can you please move this to the Q & A. So so sorry.

what rom are u using??
doomkernel v1/2?? is it for ICS??
use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176502 for your gingerbread
Why are you using DooMKernel v1 or v2? Use v13 3013. Just a hunch, but a kernel that was outdated almost right after it appeared could be the problem.

What are the pros and cons of flashing a new ROM? And is it buggier than the stock ROM that are already flashed into our phones? And whats the best ROM out there for the xperia play?
These questions are despised by some people XD
I advise you google these questions!

Just googled it and found out why you should flash ROMs. Im planning to flash a ROM and also overclock my phone. Whats the best ROM out there for the xperia play which is fully functional (e.g. camera works, 3d data works etc) and resembles a little bit to ICS. Also, is it possible for me to get GB 2.3.7 as a cusom rom (i think thats the latest GB).

I recommend you JokaWild v3 Rom with DooMKerneL... I think that it is the best rom for the XPERIA Play for now. Smooth ,fast ,bugfree and very stable.
Ive had a look on a few roms and it came down to this:
JokaWild v3
OR
TrueAncestor
Will I be able to overclock using this ROM and DL's kernal?

Build number = 4.0.2.A.0.42
Am i able to flash it?
And also, does everything work on this ROM? (e.g. 3g, wifi camera etc) and ive also tried looking for screenshots of this ROM but couldnt find anything...

You will need to flash FW 0.62 and custom kernel with root before installing the JokaWild rom. Everything works great ,no bugs! I replaced the theme of the rom to Gin2Ics - very nice.
so basically this is what I have to do. (currently, my phone is on .42, rooted and has cwm installed).
1) unlock bootloader
2) flash .62 Rom
3) get a custom kernal. Can I put DL's kernal? If yes, which one?
4) Flash jokawild using cwm
is that it?
Yep ,all good. You can use v14 ,works great with the JW. Don't forget to flash the wifi modules for this kernel ,very important if you want to remain you wifi/3G.
how would i back up my current stock rom? And will my contacts/messages etc be deleted or only the apps will be deleted when i flash a new rom and kernal?
Also, ive tried looking for the .62 and the kernal but couldnt find it. Could someone post a link. Thanks.
And will the widgets that came with the xperia s ui work on the joka wild rom? (eg the weather widget? )
I think I may have founded the files:
So I download the .62 stock rom = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406589
and then download this kernal = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406589
then flash jokawild v3?
0.62 FW = http://www.mediafire.com/?ytpsh7yay394b7p
DooMKerneL v14 = http://bit.ly/play_dk_14
Wifi Modules = http://d-h.st/JBM
JokaWild v3 Rom = http://www.mediafire.com/?xzvt84s6vy388tk
flash the FW via flashtool
unlock the BL
flash DooMKerneL V14
flash via CWM the WIFI modules
wipe data/factory reset via CWM
flash via CWM JokaWild v3 Rom
Thank you so much. i'll just download those files and then hopefully my phone will be running jokawild v3. (Btw can anybody post screenshots of the ui of jokawild. Ive only managed to find 2 screenshots and their only in the settings menu)..

In my opinion ,the stock theme of the rom isn't so much pretty... I'm using Gin2Ics theme with this rom ,very pretty and looks great.

im currently flashing the .62 fw now using flashtool but its been on 13% for about 20 minutes, is this normal?
its now been over 2 hours and now its on 19%. How long does this take? Is there any way to pause/stop it instead of plugging the phone out?
Ffinally I have flashed the .62 fw !!!
Now theres another problem, I need root to have cwm in order to flash the ROM and kernels. I tried using ginger break and the superoneclick method and it doesn't work although I heard you cant root on a .62 fw ... If this is the case then how did u get jokawild running ???
Hello guys, just want to ask for your recommendation.
I have SE Arc S firmware official 4.0.4 with locked bootloader
After I root my phone (flash 4.0.3 kernel then used doomlords rooting tools then flash again 4.0.4 kernel)
I notice that after I notice that for every 1 hour it drains 5% of the battery in SLEEP MODE(yes i did'nt do touch my phone for 1 hour then it lost 5%)
Also when I play some games like gamevoid pokemon flora sky, it drains so fast I play 1 hour and it lost about 25%+ .
I already searched for possible fix for this here in the forum but no luck. Since I only find some kernels and I don't know if it works with locked BL.
I really appreciate is someone expert can help me on this.
Note: I also tried removing bloat apps so far no improvement.
change the karnel buy exeted battry
rooting is not he ultimate solution to all android problems...u need to installl custom roms and kernels as well....ice cream pureness rom with stock ernel gives me a battery drain as low as 0.7% per hour...while acronium 4 with doomkernel gives me as low as 0.3% per hour......
and why dont you unlock your bootloader, it can always be relocked again and you can claim your warranty....
ICS pureness?
Thanks Link-in,
I do checked the ICS pureness Rom. is it available for locked bootloader?
well regarding unlocking, Im a bit hesitant doing it because my Arc S is only 2months old. And I don't have any experience unlocking any phone yet.
you dont need any xperiance for unlocking the bootloder...everything is done on official sony website......in fact, i would describe it as even easier than rooting.....just go over here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the steps.....and check this out for relocking (it gives you back your warranty) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324703........dont worry about any thing and just do it....
if you dont, you know that you will always have to keep on asking whether a particular rom is compatuble with your locked bootloader .and even a single fatal mistake will take your phone forever...
instaed of just thanking, could you plz. hit the thanks button(it helps a lot)
thanks button pressed.
anyway Im thinking to unlock my BL. but what is the recommended ROM for ICS? is there a 4.0.4 custom rom?
Im searching here in XDA but they are not clearly based on 4.0.4. its just 4.0.3 I think.
doomkernel looks good. i'll try it once i unlocked my BL
use stock rom or arc knight

About 80% of the custom roms are rebased to 4.0.4....and it depend on what type of rom you want for your daily use
Acronium 4 gives battery efficiency
Jj's hybrid gives superb looks
Cm7 and cm 9 give superb stability
And you need to check if doom kernel is compatible with a particular type of rom.....it is not suitable for cm's....but with that, you can overclock the other two roms
flash a stock kernel
Hi,
The misery is the ARC S wifi isn't stable at all, it connects to my SSID smoothly and gets IP too. but most of the time I can not open any websites even google.com from the phone browser ! and the funny part is i can't ping the phone IP from my laptop but i can ping my laptop IP from the phone ( ARC S ) !
It's really annoying, for solving this problem I decided to changed the Stock ROM ,Stock Kernel , and unlook the bootloader.
1- I unlooked the bootloader.
2-I flashed [KERNEL][GPL] Vengeance [1.38][3/5] from recovery ,also I installed OTP-Module and Wifi Module.
3- after that I flashed the stock rom to [ROM]{ICS} Xperia Ultimate HD 4.0 | The next Generation | Slim & Beautiful | 08.07.13
4- the arc s Baseband is 77 and I didn't change it.
but at the end none of this efforts doesn't work. and the problem is still exit as before. (
This is my mother phone and she just uses it for surfing the net and goes to facebook, when every time it goes wrong , she'll come to me and asking for troubleshooting ....
please some tell me what should I do to solve wifi problem.
You can try using a different kernel, LuPuS v16 or Advanced stock kernel is recommended.

You cant flash kernel from recovery. You have to flash it using fastboot

First of all Thanks popthosegaskets,
I flashed [KERNEL]ARC/S-Advanced stock-4.1.B.0.587-[ROOT+INIT.D+CWM+SD-EXT] after that I flashed Stock ICS ( 4.1.B.0.587_Generic_World 1254-8596 ) ROM too.
every thing seems more stable especially wifi. but when i flashed kerne via fastboot I didn't installStock_WiFi_modules_ICS_587.zip
with that ( I know, I can install it via recovery ) by the way, Is it necessary ? I'm afraid if I install it, every thing goes wrong again !
what 's your idea about that ?

I knew that.
up........
You have to install the WiFi modules AFTER installing the ROM. Otherwise the custom ones (from the kernel) will just be written over by stock ones.
How did you get on with this?
I've tried just about every GB, ICS and JB ROM, and kernels to match. My experience is that any GB ROM/kernel combo and the WiFi is fine. Stock ICS ROM and kernel, WiFi is fine. Any other ICS ROM or kernel, and every JB combo gives poor Wifi performance. Connection drops out, router not in range when standing next to it, and when it is connected, slow speeds. This is one of the many issues I'm having with this phone. When (if) funds permit, I'm going to a Z1.

Yeah but Gin2KK is GB-based, so WiFi is fine. I'm now on G2KK and doomkernel v22, and WiFi is great!
Hi,
I`m planing to downgrade to an official Sony Stock ICS ROM (& and strip the bloatware) to get all the features working (HDMI). I was planing to pair the stock sony ICS with a kernel like Lupus. Before doing this however I wanted to ask if anyone has a recomendation on which Stock ICS version to get because I remember reading that one of those was a major flaw.
Additionally I'd like to know if anyone has/did run stock ICS+custom kernel and could share his experience with speed/smoothness and such, because I remember running the LT18i_4.1.B.0.587 firmware before rooting my device some years ago and the whole system was so laggy ... which lead me to try custom ROMs first and evetually unlock the bootloeader and go for custom Kernels later.
Any other recomendations are welcome.

I believe the newest is the best you can get, which is 4.1.B.0.587. You can also try 4.1.B.1.13, but it is a branded firmware and may have some additional bloatware installed in it.
Thanks. I remember 4.1.B.0.587 was really laggy when running on stock "everything". I'll try it and see if I can get it running smoothly with a custom kernel...

Even with a custom kernel, stock 4.1.B.0.587 will still lag a lot because of all the bloatware Sony added inside.
