I don't post here often, but I am on IRC all the time for those of you that do know me. I have been having serious issues with the AOSP Roms. Cyanogen, Ruby, and Incredible Does all either freeze on me or reboot sooner or later. I've went so far as to install nothing else except the Rom and it still freezes or reboots. I've done this test with all three, I even dialed down the processor while on them and still NO DICE. I'm not an Android expert, but I do have a bachelor's in IT so I feel I'm pretty tech savvy. I was told on IRC that others are having similar problems with all the AOSP roms. I'm trying to get a consensus of who else is experiencing this and some more suggestions on how to fix this.
I appreciate all the help
~Thanks , AnthonyKash
Yeah this is very odd. A couple of us in ##incredibleroms have been working with AnthonyKash to figure this out. So far we have had no luck at all. No Sense UI ROMs do this to him, it seems like it's only vanilla ROMs. Very strange............

I know you posted this months ago but was wondering if you figured out what is causing this? I too can't use ANY aosp Rome because they all end up being unusable after a couple of hours. It's almost like the CPU slows down to a dramatic crawl. Only way to fix is to do a battery pull to reset. I have cleared cache, dalvik, uninstalled setcpu, all with no luck. Anyone have any insights?
Check integrity and space of SD card - maybe even remove, copy contents to PC, reformat to FAT32, copy a few nandroids back to SD and reinstall in device. Also make sure there is ample space on SD.
Absent that, have you tried a different SD card? AOSP ROMs interface w/ the SD considerably more than Sense ROMs.
Also, check radio version - recommend at least 2.15.xx
HBOOT version may come into play as well.
+1 to the above post. Seems like some sense files are bring left somewhere.

I don't think its my SD Card, I just got a new one a month ago and the same thing happened with my old SD Card. I have 4 gigs left empty of a 16 gig sd card. Would it make a difference if I installed from EMMC using RA recovery?
Hboot 0.92
Radio 2.15.00.09.01
Am on the latest versions of Hboot and radio right?
One thing I do find very weird is that even after doing full wipes of user data, cache and dalvik, when I boot up on CM7 my wifi settings still work. I would have expected I needed to reenter all of those settings. Or does this stuff get saved to the SD or internal storage...normal? If it is not, then why are data wipes in Recovery not cleanning up my files?
I've not had this problem.

Yep, those are the latest versions.
AOSP ROMs offer automatic reinstall of apps and data to Google when flashing, if that option is checked when flashed. That's where/how/why settings and/or apps still appear as before.
So, if Sense ROMs are not wonky, maybe it is an app you have installed on the AOSP ROM?
Long diagnostic road, (well understood by us IT folk ) but perhaps uninstall apps in reverse install date order of the app, reboot as you go thru, see which one may have been a culprit.
Absent that, perhaps factory reset in recovery, install an AOSP rom w/out choosing to reinstall apps.
Maybe try another different AOSP ROM?
I know the SD interacts quite a bit more with the SD compared to Sense ROMs - again, maybe copy SD card contents to PC, reformat SD to FAT32 either on the PC or in phone, maybe both - then d/l an AOSP ROM on a clean SD, see if it's still wonky.

Sense ROMS work great, its AOSP roms that are giving my phone fits lol. Well last night I tried something new.
-I changed my radio from 2.15.00.09.01 to 2.15.00.07.28 Official Froyo radio.
-Installed CM7 #14 from the EMMC versus SD CARD.
-"Hit Wipe All" in recovery about 10 times in a row before I flashed CM7
I hope changing the radio to "official" is what does it. Anyone running AOSP roms using the leaked radio 2.15.00.09.01 ?
Radio?
Yes, do let us know whether the xx.09 radio was the (a) culprit.
I run the older 2.15.xx.07.28 one, never had issues w/ AOSP ROMs.
I had an issue with this using cm7 nightlies, and I WOULD post it there but the new, ~totally awesome~ rule they are implementing (can't post in the dev forum w/ less than 10 posts) prevents me from doing that (Which means I have to spam the other sub forums?).
ANYWAYS, I got a bigger sd card from a friend, and I went to erase it under the sd card settings. Then i got a low space notification, saying I had 9 mb free of 7 Terbytes. Rebooting the phone caused it to go into boot loop. If your situation sounds like mine then do this
Boot into CWM, and from there you can mount the SD card and format it, as well as copy any backups.
I did not have any luck with restoring the phone to a previous AOSP rom, even after wiping the cache/dalvik. Maybe there's another one that could be wiped that I didn't do. Anyways, I installed a Sense based rom, and from there I was able to install Cyanogen mod.
Good luck.

Well it turns out that the radio version I was using was not the issue because the phone became unresponsive this morning when I tried to wake it up. To be specific, it does allow me to swipe to unlock but painfully in slow motion.
So that rules at the radio...which leaves me with its either the ROM/Kernel or some rogue app.
So this morning I wiped all user data in recovery and reinstalled CM7#14 but this time I did not log on to my google account during setup and have not installed any apps. So far no issues, but the true test is trying to wake the phone up tomorrow in the morning. If there are no issues, then that solves it (ITS A FREAKING APP).
If it is a rogue app that has been haunting me these past couple of weeks then who has the best way to identify which one is the offender? Why would a rogue app only affect me using AOSP roms and not Sense?
My suspicions are with..(Locale, Beautiful Widgets, ADW EX, Swype, CardioTrainer, Handcent) but I guess process of elimination is what its going to take.
Thanks to all for the help and recommendations.

Good stuff. Glad to see it all finally worked out.

I didn't exactly figure out what was wrong but I found a solution. There was something wrong with my cache partitions.

What ROM(s) are you using? From the Terminal Emulator, have you tried running fix_permissions? I run Redemption, and when I install a new version of it that's the first thing I do, then reboot.

I'm running redemptive 1.9 and I've tried multiple other roms and still have the same problem. Fix permissions didn't work either. I get an error with the packages.XML file. This problem happens no matter what rom I try.
Hey guys. I had the same $#it happen to me last week! I was sitting on the couch and cleaning my rooted Droid with stock Rom... and when I held the power button to shutdown phone I got a long vibrate instead of the usual short one! This got my attention, and sure enough, when I finally took out the battery and reported, I got the UIDs are inconsistent.... error along with the I'm feeling lucky button. Force Closes, galore! I fixed it by doing a hard reset and basically returning my phone to factory setting. Still rooted, but lost all my contacts, favorites, texts, apps... basically everything that wasn't on the SD card...:-/ still trying to restore all my settings... it was perfectly set to how I wanted it.

Hi everyone.
While I consider myself as a veteran in installing and modifying ROMs, I've come by a slightly weird and disturbing problem.
Twice within a week, I've experienced that my phone randomly reboots and then I'm back to stock launcher and all apps in /system/app are inaccesable. I can see them in Root Explorer and through adb, but they are not launchable.
The only solution left is to do a full wipe and reinstall.
The first time I experienced this was while using an MIUI-Au ROM. I thought it might be ROM related, so I wiped completely and installed Oxygen 2.0.1. Then the same thing happened again while I was playing with ADWLauncher Ex, and I did notice some small app-hangs. Not force closes, but I had to tilt the phone before the menu responded.
I've now wiped again, completely. I've even formatted the sdcard outside the phone. ADW is responding fine, but I'm worried this might happen again.
I'm testing if it can be app-related. While on the two installs where it happened, I had installed Swype *and* SlideIT at the same time (although using SlideIT as default). Now I'm using the stock Gingerbread keyboard in Oxygen to see if it might be Swype, SlideIT or the combination of the two installed at the same time that caused this.
But have anyone experienced this besides me?
Is there a solution other than a complete wipe - sort of "reactivating" the apps?
Thanks in advance
Have you tried a non-A2SD+ ROM like CM7 RC2? or ROMs that don't use A2SD at all?

I can't say I have, but I'll add it to the list of things to test if it happens again. Thanks for your suggestion.

Definitely try it, because I have the same problem as you last time using A2SD+ ROM (LeeDroid's), I scan + fix my sdcard then wipe and re-install the same ROM, the problem seems to go away at first, then after awhile it came back... from there i switch to non A2SD version of LeeDroid, and even never move apps to SD (aka Apps2SD), the problem did not re-appear anymore...
Well, then the next question is: Why does A2SD+ affect this? Is there a solution 'cause I like the ability to move apps to /sdcard. Or to put it in another way: can I do anything about it?
It's not something I've experienced before. So A2SD+ just stops working? Meh, I don't know Let's see. I haven't encountered any issues so far, and I'm still without SlideIT/Swype.
I think it's due to the way it's accessing the SD-card, some people will not have issue running A2SD, but if your SD-card is faulty(or prone to corrupt), then apps will keep FC like that, fixing it using chkdsk just temporary workaround, it will start failing again... IMHO, A2SD is sensitive to the quality of the SD-card...
but, there is a possibility your case might not be due to A2SD at all
just a suggestion/previous experience...
So every custom ROM I've tried (TrulyEpic, Syndicate, Nebula) after a while it just stops working correctly. I end up with constant need of reboots and then Google Services Framework always FC's on me. Apps start to FC and it all goes downhill. I have yet to have a ROM last longer than a month without doing this. I don't download a lot of apps and the ones I do use are very mainstream.
Does anyone else have this problem or is it my handset? All is well as long as I stick to stock. I hate stock though, because I do rely on tethering and I'm not paying double for data. That and Syndicate is so fast and smooth.
Thanks for listening to my venting. Sorry for taking up forum space.
You really need to search...
The FCs are due to data corruption, you can't improperly shut off a no-journaling ROM or that's what happens. Reflash your rom, make a NAND backup then install the backup and journaling will be on and it will stop happening.
Sorry, I did and I couldn't find what I thought was the issue. I did give you a thanks though because I didn't know that.

It's fine, I was just saying you should search because there are a dozen threads where people are complaining about tons of FCs.
As for a NAND backup, would I need NANDROID or would the Backup/Restore in CWM work for that? If I need NANDROID then I'll probably just keep a copy of the ROM on my SD card an reflash whenever I get corruption.
EDIT: Nevermind, I think I got it.
After searching, this is a pretty serious problem that nobody has found a fix for.
I get "Failed to move application. Not enough memory" when trying to move apps to the sd card.
Problem is, I have plenty of memory on my sd card (4gb) and I had all these apps and more on my sd card before a recent flash to EF02. I've seen this problem on my girlfriends EVO as well.
Could it be related to the internal storage being too low? It seems like when the internal memory warning pops up, it goofs up all kinds of things related to memory.
Also, is there a way to delete all installed apps at once from my phone?
Try getting SD Maid from the market it see if that works for you. It worked for me.
Thats just a bug with EF02.

I thought that maybe was the case. But it's a pretty common bug across a lot of Android phones/ROMs, if you google it.
Also, My first try at EF02, I flashed over EE03 without wiping anything. And had great results, and then something made my stock browser go fishy (mightve been EE03 8 lockscreen mod), so I wiped and re-flashed, and then using mybackup root to reinstall all my apps, I ran into this problem.
And doesn't really matter for a while now. Just dropped my phone in the toilet. Wasn't in there longer than 1 second, but I got it in rice now anyways.
Sorry to hear about your phone making a visit to the toilet, im not sure what the rice thing is but maybe you could shed some light on it for me. also i have the apps 2 sd prob, except i cannot install custom roms due to md5 mismatch on x8, but my wifes x8 has no probs, i can install all roms no problem if i use her card for the install and backup, which is a bit annoying as she is happy with floyo 0.30 and wont swap cards with me. i tried formatting the card and making an exact image of hers but no joy, no custom roms or a2sd for me. if anyone has figured this out then please please let me know.
Thanks in advance and as this is my first post i should say thanks to doixanh, racht and all those who have put in so much effort to make our little x8 a great device, keep up the great work.
